In the extremely cringey video, Tam calls for children to wear masks and be vaccinated and boosted or risk being on Santa's naughty list. On December 14, 1962, three men, one dressed as Santa Claus, walked into the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce branch in the Montreal suburb of St. Laurent. Within just five minutes they had taken up $142,966 in cash, bonds, and travelers' checks, killed two policemen, and fled the bank unscathed. The murders sparked the biggest manhunt in Montreal's, and possibly Canada's, police history.SOURCEShttps://www.theglobeandmail.com/canada/article-when-the-santa-claus-bandit-struck-montreal-in-1962-christmas-was/https://montreal.ctvnews.ca/remembering-the-slaying-of-two-police-officers-50-years-later-1.1080583Montreal's Irish Mafia: The True Story of the Infamous West End Gang; By D'Arcy O'Connorhttps://thenewztimes.com/when-the-santa-claus-bandit-struck-montreal-in-1962-christmas-was-never-the-same/

Christmas trees won't vanish in this country, but the people who farm them are facing some tough decisions in the coming years. As the climate changes, trees grown apart, in neat little rows, simply can't take it as well as trees that make up a natural forest. As this worsens, the cost of farmed trees will continue to rise, and farmers may have to look at non-native species. How does the tree farm industry work? Where does your perfect little triangle tree come from and why is it so difficult to grow? And ten years from now will more Canadians be heading out to the woods with axes, as our grandparents might have done?GUEST: Richard Hamelin, head of Forest Conservation Sciences at the University of British Columbia

At this late and magical hour, I decided to go out for a walk - something I used to do quite often when the moon was full and shining bright. I would go out without a lantern, my eyes easily adjusting to see the way ahead and much more besides. There was a rustling in the bushes as I walked past the house, a creature scuttling to a safer place. Then a flutter of wings sounded from the tree branches. Turning back to look at the house, I can see the indoor warmth through the windows. The twinkling of the small lights that frame the window, echo the silent stars above, and the faint sound of music drifts through the still frosty air. I continue my walk and as the music fades a flock of geese replace the choral tones with their honking sounds above and then flap away into the darkness. As I follow the winding road I wonder why I haven't done this midnight walk more often in recent years. The burn is flowing steadily, cutting through the ancient land and rocks, carving its peaty path to the sea. The incandescent moon shines full in the dark sky casting a bright light across the moorland. I can pick out objects, buildings and grasses in the night silence and tree branches and hills against the horizon. The outline of the castle stands tall against the wide open sea and landscape, its shape defined by the blue glow; and the waves reflect a momentary sparkle of silver white as they gently rolled into the shore. And if I look out toward the sea, even in the darkness I can make out the moving lights of ships passing on the horizon. The inkiness of the ocean merges with the headland, which merges with the large expanse of sky, hardly any distinction can be made between one and the other, and therein sits a smattering of house lights - or are they stars? These days are at their shortest, the nights long. As the moon gradually waxes, the stars are still strongly visible in the dark sky. The earth continues its usual rhythms and the world waits with anticipation. With hope. In stillness. Something is different. I stop in the sand on the beach and stand motionless for a time, awed by the silence and beauty and lulled by the incoming tide, the waves gently lapping the shore. I look up to see the stars, outshone by the moonlight, but there nonetheless. There is Orion … and the Big Dipper, or the 'Plough' as the call it here in the UK. 'Twas in the moon of wintertime… ' The lines from a song I learned in school back in Canada called ‘The Huron Carol' comes to my mind. I know we are all emerging from this past festive season, but looking back, it remains one of my favourite Christmas hymns… 'Twas in the moon of winter-time When all the birds had fled, That mighty Gitchi Manitou Sent angel choirs instead; Before their light the stars grew dim, And wandering hunters heard the hymn: "Jesus your King is born, Jesus is born, In excelsis gloria." It goes on, but I cannot remember all the words now. It is the oldest Canadian Christmas hymn, written in around 1642 by Jean de Brébeuf, a Jesuit missionary at Sainte-Marie among the Hurons in Canada. Brébeuf wrote the lyrics in the native language of the Huron/Wendat people; the song's original Huron title is "Jesous Ahatonhia". The song's melody is based on a traditional French folk song, "Une Jeune Pucelle". The well-known English lyrics were written in 1926 by Jesse Edgar Middleton . And by the way, I should mention that you will also be heard on WGAN on Saturday at one o'clock. Matt Gagnon Nicely done, Sir. Ken Altschuler Thank you. 18 years. I don't know if you know that. Hey Craig, I did not realize there was such a thing as cyber insurance. Can you tell us about that? Is it something we should be buying? Craig Peterson Yeah, this is a big deal with some businesses may be aware of homeowners, etc. Or you might want to listen here for a minute because first of all, many homeowner policies have already got his cyber insurance clause in them. And so if you have homeowners policies, double-check on that if you know for your personal computers, see if you have it, maybe it's a writer you might want to add to it, but a lot of them do. But the cyber attacks increasing now. Businesses have to pay a lot more to this whole cybersecurity risk, we have quite a few companies now that have cyber insurance, but it's not even half of them so far. So this is a very, very big deal. Make sure you have it, but also remember that not all cyber insurance claims are paid. If you are not taking reasonable efforts, which have, you know, have you defined those to try and keep the bad guys out, they may not pay. Even the big guys like Merck, the drugmaker, and the American food processor, Mondelez. They are both suing their insurance providers because the insurance providers did not pay for damages from a big virus called not pet shop back two years ago. So this is a big deal. It could save you could help your business. And just a word of warning. Those businesses that do get cyber attacked about 20% percent of them filed for bankruptcy the very next day. So be very, very careful if everybody can I do think cyber insurance is a good thing for every business and including in particularly regulated companies, like your law practice and, and many of the other companies here in Maine. Matt Gagnon We're talking to Craig Peterson. He is our tech guru, and he joins us now to talk about what's happening in the world of technology. Greg, you're spooked, you're freaked out by facial recognition you want out? You don't want to be facially recognized. What can I do to do the same thing, and why are you so hesitant about it? Craig Peterson Well, you know, we talked before a little bit about what Homeland Security is doing with facial recognition and how they have some of these cameras right now with gates at airports, they've been arresting people who approach the gate at the airport. Their face does not match the on the identification that they presented. So we expect more and more that as time goes on, but I get concerned about it because of it right now guys if you get notified that for instance, that a hack happened to a site that you use, you can go and change your password. Right? You probably have done that already. Matt Gagnon Yes. Craig Peterson Yeah. So changing your password is an easy thing. Think about this. Some buildings and businesses and require IDs to gain entrance to get in to get through the doors? Ken Altschuler Not so much anymore. But I did use to have to do that quite a bit when I worked on Capitol Hill. Craig Peterson Exactly. You get into the bigger cities down into Boston or New York, and you're going to see that all the time. And so businesses, many of them were trying to have some physical security. And so they'll give you these cards, or there might be swipe cards, etc. And you come up to the little gate, you use the passcard, the gate opens, and you go, well, it's part of the problem. They are offering facial recognition. Even for those types of admittances. So all you do is you walk right through the gates, the computer recognizes you based on your face. And here all set. What happens when they steal your face data? Remember, the movie Face-Off, and you might remember seeing this Matt Gagnon Face Off. It's one of my favorite movies of all time. Craig Peterson So, you know, it's an excellent movie. So both of those guys may be able to do a little face trick, but we can't. What do we do when they steal our face data? And real between us? Frankly, that's one of the big problems I have with the REAL guys are talking about that a little earlier here on the news. But Cal main has this Real ID-compliant identification. Well, it's one thing for the federal government to have all of our faith and maybe some other biometrics for passport, and hopefully, they'll take care of the data. We've got 50 states of are we sure the state of Maine isn't going to lose that information. And I get concerned about this. So I opt out of it every time I potentially can. And if the business that I work at it says hey listen, guys, you have this optional facial recognition. Instead of that card. I would go for the card every time. Ken Altschuler We are talking to Craig Peters son joins us every Wednesday at 730 and also, by the way, WGAN on one at one o'clock on Saturday, I have a couple of dogs that we live in the house. And you know, sometimes I worry that maybe they're going to rip up a pillow or use the facility inside instead of out so way that I can serve them. Craig Peterson Some people might pass but there there are a lot of really cool things. There are pet shaders and waters that have cameras built-in And this is part of the Internet of Things. So make sure you segment your network, okay? Just get a little techie here on people, because you don't want those remote cameras to be able to be used as a launching point to attack the rest of your networks. But there's a cool new one out right now that I wanted to mention. And it's called Ebo, and you can find it on Kickstarter right now, Ebo.com. It is a little robot that live-streams HD video of it. It is really for cats. It's a little ball basically with a couple of wheels on the bottom, and it comes out and plays with your pet. It has a laser in it, and it shoots a laser around for the pet to kind of chase it runs around and back and forth and plays your dog, or your cat has to chase it around. You can even with a collar that Ebo has, also track your pet steps. It has a series of light and sounds, and you talk to your pet. Matt Gagnon I think this might be over the top, but if you love your pets, wouldn't you buy them something like this? Yes. Yes, yes. Craig Peterson Good. Yeah. I was going to say, and I'll tell you I have a great dane and just one chomp, and it's gone. Matt Gagnon Indeed. Alright. Well, ladies and gentlemen. We're talking to Craig Peterson, our tech guru, and he joins us right now to talk about technology updates. Craig, one quick question for you before we let you go. I should be terrified of my smart TV, true or false. Craig Peterson You know, we certainly have been concerned about all kinds of Internet of Things devices. Remember that our TV use that you bought here recently has built into a computer. And the FBI now is warning us about smart TVs and how it opens up security vulnerabilities. So here's what I been doing. I got a smartTV. One of my daughters gave it to me for Canadian Christmas, which I've told my children is like three weeks before the real Christmas, you see. So they've already given me the TV, and I've got it up on the wall, and it's a smart TV. I hooked it up to the internet long enough for it to go and get updates. Then I went to the software update screen, and then I had it forget the web so it could not connect anymore. I use an external box for all of my Roku type of You know, an Apple TV box. For all of my streaming services, like Netflix or Hulu or whatever. I found it at Walmart for 180 bucks the other day, Apple TV. I know I've said this many times about Apple, they are the only one trying to do security-first. Do not use a smartTV. Some TVs, many of them now and I think most of them have cameras in them. And many of them are watching you watching TV. They have third party programs and apps that contain vulnerabilities, which makes them hackable, many of these remotely, and if you're not keeping the software up to date, you've got problems. But the more significant issue is that even if you try to keep the software update, the vendors are not updating these TVs. So the FBI has been warning us the types of smart TVs are They're dangerous little hacks right now or rare, but that doesn't mean that can continue to be. So do not connect the TV to the internet. The internet is my advice, but use an external box for all services. Matt Gagnon Tech guru joins us every Wednesday 738, and every Saturday, one o'clock doesn't join us but joins WGAN. Thank you, Sir. We'll talk to you next Wednesday. Unknown Speaker 10:25 Take care, guys. Welcome! Good morning, everybody. I was on with Mr. Jim Polito this morning and we discussed a new technology fraud that you need to be aware of and also some other dangers that you may find yourself exposed to this holiday season. So, here we go with Mr. Polito. For more tech tips, news, and updates visit - CraigPeterson.com --- Related articles: Hand in Hand On Black Friday --- Shopping and Privacy Imposter Retailers Outnumber Legitimate Ones --- Automated Machine Generated Transcript: Craig Peterson Good morning, everybody. Craig Peterson here. I had a lot of fun this morning with Mr. Polito. It's nice having somebody who's quick on the draw on the other side and get to figure out why. Or I know why there's a delay sometimes between me speaking and him speaking. But their equipment isn't compatible with my equipment. And so we're going to figure that out. So we've got a note with the engineers over the radio stations to after the first of the year to see if we can't figure out a better way to get me chatting with, Jim but you are going to like it. We had a lot of fun anyway, and we talked about the fake retailer sites. I'm going into quite a bit of detail with them, too. I had a little walk along this morning with Mr. Jim Polito. Hey, Happy Thanksgiving to everybody. Hope you are going to have a great time we've as always we invite a friend over who doesn't have local family and maybe if you are a friend like that, you will be able to enjoy it with another family or with your own or Even by yourself but you know, my heart goes out to everybody. Take care of everybody and here we go with Jim Polito Jim Polito Here he is the man the myth, the legend. I'm talking about our good friend and thanksgiving Tech Talk Guru, Craig Peterson let me be the first sir to say I want to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving Jim Polito Happy late Thanksgiving, I appreciate that sir. I Craig Peterson I thought you were gonna say Jim you missed the Canadian Thanksgiving or you know you did you said Happy Thanksgiving that that Jim Polito When is the Canadain Thanksgiving? I always forget. Craig Peterson It's about a month earlier. You know, because in Canada, we live in Igloos. So it is in October, you know. Jim Polito I love that. But Thanksgiving in Canada is more of a is a recognition of the harvest and not a historical event, right? Craig Peterson That's absolutely true. It has nothing to do with the Commonwealth and people starving to death. And then that celebration, celebration of the harvest, like so many of them are worldwide. Well, as you mentioned earlier on your show, a lot of cultures have things and that's what it is in Canada as well. Jim Polito Yeah. And you know, the thing is, it's more likely that the Thanksgiving in Plymouth, the first which as we know it was Plymouth, not Jamestown, because Plymouth we actually have a document to prove it was the first but it was likely how late September early October also, just like the Canadian would be right about now you wouldn't be having any harvest festival down in Plymouth. Craig Peterson No, no, you probably wouldn't. Yeah, it's harvest time for sure. I got all the honey from my bees. I got about 100 pounds of honey this year. That's all done. They were really productive. Jim Polito Yeah, pretty earthy-crunchy for a for a guy who's a tech talk guru. Craig Peterson Yeah, exactly. It is. You know, I've got chickens and we still have horses, cats, and dogs. We've got rescue Great Dane here. Wow. Jim Polito I love Great Danes. Oh, they're so nice. And they keep the revenuers away. Craig Peterson They do. Jim Polito You and Burt Ward you know, Robin from the old Batman series and his wife. They do Great Dane rescue because people get a Great Dane and then realize, Hey, this is like having a pony. Craig Peterson We've had those small horses too and they are actually horses not ponies. We've had for four Dane rescues and it's kind of a shame. But you're right, a lot of people can handle them. But it is not the kind of dog that you can't train. You have to train them. There is no option. But to train them. Jim Polito Yeah, you have to train because they can do whatever they want, but they are very gentle and loving dogs. Craig Peterson You know, our Great Dane, well she identifies as a Chihuahua. Jim Polito That means jumping up in Craig's lap. Craig Peterson Yeah. She stands there with these sad eyes. You know, her eyes say there's room on that couch and I could fit just because it's made for three people and there are three people on it already doesn't mean a little Chihuahua. Like me can fit. Jim Polito They're just so big. They are just so powerful. That's right. Well, there we go. This Thanksgiving we've had our animal rescue pitch. Now, let's get into this. We need to talk about Black Friday scams from a tech perspective because that's what folks are looking forward and thinking about right now. Craig Peterson Oh, and this year is worse than most well, almost any other one prior, frankly. We've had I think it's first off I think the first point is something called typosquatting domains. Now, do you know what typo-squatting is? We all make typing errors especially on our smart devices, right? Make them all the time. Yes, a typing mistake or you know, you're thinking about something else while you're typing until you typed in something else. My wife was trying to go to a Microsoft Office site the other day and she kept typing orifice. You know, sticking in an "R" in there. And you know, we do this all the time. So Wow, Right now a company called the Venafi went and they grabbed the names of the biggest retailers that they could find online. And basically, they found them all. But, here's what they found their statistics, they found that there were almost 25,000 authentic retail sites online. At least think about that number for a minute. You compare that to five or 10 years ago. 20,000 authentic retail sites online. Yeah. But they found 110 thousand fake sites that looked like the retail site. So you know, 20,000 to 110,000, over four times as many fake sites that look legitimate retail sites, legitimate retail sites that are out there, and they also found 15,000 paid pal certificates issued in 20. 17 first I choose for fishing. So we've gone from about, you know, 15,000 in 2017 of the PayPal ones to now 110,000. So rule number one while you're shopping, this whole holiday season is all about certificates. Now, you have to be good to figure this out. And maybe what I should do is put together a little paper and I'll send it out to everybody that wants it. That explains it. But if you go on if you're sitting in front of your computer right now, Jim, I know you are Yep. And you go to the URL bar, that's the bar word has the website address. And on the left side, it usually has a little lock icon. And if you hover over that, it says View site information. Yeah, click on that. Yeah. It will come up and say the connection is secure. That Is test number one. Yeah, that's not the ultimate test. Okay. In a little bit, you'll see it says the certificate is valid. Jim Polito I'm on Facebook and it says certificate says valid. Craig Peterson All right, and it'll tell you if you click on down below where it says View certificate. If you click on that, it'll tell you who the issuer is. Jim Polito certificate information. Details Wait a minute. The certificate is intended for the following purposes. issued to Facebook com. It is issued in California. Craig Peterson They are one of the biggest and most legitimate and the fact it says it was issued to facebook.com. Okay. That's what you want to look for Jim, right. And what that tells you is they, they went to the trouble to verify that this really was Facebook. So these more expensive certificates like all of these retail sites likely to have these more expensive certificates, they go to the trouble to verify. So they check with the state to make sure that the company's properly registered, who the appropriate people are within the company to can make these decisions and buying the company. And then they'll issue their certificate. So what you're looking at is a legitimate certificate for Facebook. Jim Polito Got it? Interesting. So yeah, like if you go to amazon.com, you know, yeah, you know, or Amazon, whatever, you missed it, and then they have a site that mimics the other side. That makes sense. You got to go over there and make sure all this isn't now, just sites like that. Get certificates. Can it can a site if I put up Amazon, Amazon com? And then I have a site that looks an awful lot like Amazon, can I get a certificate? Or will they say not a chance, buddy? Craig Peterson You can. There is the technology out there. I sometimes use these guys to do it. And the whole idea is to make it so that all of the data on the internet is encrypted. There's a site or certificate issued by Let's Encrypt. So if you go to my website, for instance, so if you were to go right now to Craig peterson.com. Yep, you'll see I'm Craig peterson.com. On the left, it's got the little lock, and you can click on that lock and it's going to come up with a connection is secure. If you look at the certificate, You'll see that it's issued by Let's Encrypt. Yeah. Okay. It doesn't have much information about me. It doesn't have the company name who would tissue to or anything else. So in this case, I could get a certificate for amazom.com. Let's encrypt the letters. So this is where it starts getting really confusing to people. Okay? You notice the details on my site are different than they were on Facebook. My site hasn't been authenticated. Is it really Craig Peterson or someone else. All they've done now is it made it so that if you're browsing on my website, it is encrypted. So people can't spy on you when you're on my website. This is a technology problem that we're actually working on for the internet right now. And we've got a few potential solutions impact. It's funny you brought it up because this week, finally Microsoft said, that they may, eventually, absolutely are going to next week, or by 2030. They sre going to start to use those very solid, very good newer standards that are out there. But this is one of the big weaknesses of the internet. And unfortunately, Black Friday, you're going to hit this one. So what to do here, let's really correct it only, we only got like a minute left here. And all of this stuff is up on my website. Craig Peterson dot com. If any website is insisting that you download their application run away! Everybody has an app and frankly, most apps can be a little dangerous, okay? If they keep pressuring you for the app, forget about it. If the website has a lot of advertising on it, especially if it's not for their stuff, be leery. If you're on a website, you went to Amazon. And it was not just advertising Amazon stuff, but was advertising a whole bunch of other stuff. That's a really big giveaway. As always, if the price is too good to be true, it's a true bait and switch a very big thing this time of year. And be careful with you're going to one of these sites to rent a house for the holidays. Yeah, careful of bait and switch. There are some studies out there and Airbnb has been trying to crack down. But studies showing the better than 20% on some of these sites of the listings are fake. So you sign up for a house and what will happen is like the day before, you'll get an email from the owner of the house or the just a room even saying we had a flood we had a pipe break and toilet breaks, etc. I'm going to move you to another house. It's just as nice you're going along. Jim Polito Okay. This is all good stuff. Now, if people text My name to this number Craig Peterson 855-385-2553. That's 855-385-5553 standard Jim Polito Standard data and tax rates apply and Craig Peterson will provide you with this information. He'll provide you weekly with this information and won't bother you and you will be ahead of the curve. Craig, I can't thank you enough. Happy belated Canadian Thanksgiving. Happy American Thanksgiving. And we look forward to talking with you next week. Craig Peterson 14:42 All right, and we can discuss when Canadian Christmas is on the same day. Jim Polito Festivous is the 23rd. Thanks, Craig. Bye-bye. All right, we're gonna let Billy get on board with whoo socks. Craig Peterson Hey again. My friends, Happy Thanksgiving and I'll be on tomorrow. I expect I'll be on WGAN and up in Maine tomorrow too. So I'll be back then. Take care. Bye-bye. S02e55 is a b-sides baby, a special lil thing we like to do over here at lasers where we take some previously unaired conversations from earlier episodes and string them together to create a coherent whole. To kick things off they talk neighborhoods and reverse gentrification (white flight!) before the Lasers talk to DD the Destroyer about grey sweatpants and penis prints. They talk bad decisions by the Habs with Julian McKenzie, bad encounters with birds with Dana El Masri and then the nature of things in rap in Montreal with JT Soul before ranking Jay-Z’s discography and workshopping a pretty awful origin story amongst themselves. They talk boasting for the gram with DD, growth causing discomfort with Dana and the toxicity of the NFL with Julian before talking funk music with JT Soul and exploring confrontation with DD. To close out, they examine Canadian Christmas with Julian and the Stem Cell NFL (trademark) with one another. L@@@@@@sers!

It wasn’t always like this. Carrie-Ann first joined Manifest $10K with coaching support. As soon as she started doing the work it seemed like everyone except her started manifesting, especially her husband. Carrie-Ann’s husband was finding money and manifesting free pizzas like crazy. Carrie-Ann was sure the law of attraction and the Manifest $10K process wasn’t working. She kept asking, “Where is my pizza?” Through coaching, Carrie-Ann learned that it takes time for the Universe to put big things, like a new job, together. Her patience paid off when a new job manifested quickly and easily. As Carrie-Ann continues to grow and utilize the law of attraction, her life keeps getting better and better.
