For VIdeo Edition, Please Click and Subscribe Here: https://youtu.be/NuUJtfZg55M Debbie Williams was born to gold medal Ice skaters and literally was born in a trunk. Her mom and dad traveled with the ice shows of that era and moved from town to town 11 months out of the year. When she was 2, they put her in a show and she performed with her family in Holiday on Ice and Ice Follies as a featured performer until the age of 15. Later, she did a show in Europe with Peggy Fleming where she met choreographer Bob Paul and he went on to choreograph the skating numbers for the 70's Donny and Marie Show. They needed Skater/ Dancers and he was hired. 4 years on that show and when it was over, Debbie switched into TV production. Produced Casey Kasem's Americas Top Ten TV Show for 5 years among other shows like Portrait of a Legend and others. Debbie had her son and decided to change jobs so that she would have more time with her son…. That's how stage managing happened. Soon she was doing all the big shows like the Oscars, Emmys, Grammys as the token female. It gave me time off to raise her son and it clicked. She did every live special, award show, live tv dramas like Fail Safe with Clooney, ER live, West Wing Live and On Golden Pond live with Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer. It it was live, I did it and became the only woman Lead Stage Manager to do live Variety tv in LA. I eventually did American Idol the first 15 seasons on Fox as the lead stage manager. Debbie is now semi retired but do occasional shows that I want to do. I use my talents to help with activism in LA and DC for Womens March. My kids are 28 and 38. My son was on Broadway in Jersey Boys and my daughter is a therapist. I'm also a new grandma to a 6 month old. And back living in LA after a 4 year Park City adventure and commuting for work in LA.

In the latest of our episodes focussed on Brexit in the real lives of British citizens living in the EU27, Michaela is joined over the Internet by Debbie Williams, founder of BrExpats Hear our Voice (https://brexpatshov.com). She explains how she went from never having been involved in politics beyond voting to founding this group that has had an increasing presence in campaigns for citizens’ rights. They discuss her concerns about the ways in which the human cost of Brexit has been overlooked in the negotiations, the difficulties of getting the voices of those who rights are being transformed heard, and the importance of standing up for these rights at this point in time. And on a personal level, she highlights how Brexit has changed her, the way she looks at the world and caused her to question things that she might previously have taken for granted.
Ahead of the election, we wanted to find out about groups of British expats across the continent who have come together since the referendum in 2016 to protect the rights and futures of British citizens living in Europe and the sort of work they do, so we got in touch with three to learn some more. First, we hear from Michael Harris, a British writer and educator who lives near Madrid. After the referendum, Michael set up Eurocitizens, a Spain based group who meet with government officials in Madrid to lobby for the ring-fencing of British citizens’ rights post Brexit. He’s also on the steering group of British in Europe, a coalition of a number of groups looking out for British citizens’ rights across the continent. Debbie Williams also works closely with British in Europe, through her own group, Brexpats – Hear Our Voice. Their members are found in countries across the EU, and they similarly work with EU wide organizations to find answers to the main questions people have about what is going to happen to UK citizens post-Brexit. Brexpats have also collaborated with a project in the UK called In Limbo. That’s run by Elena Remigi, an Italian living in the UK who decided to set up the project to humanize the Brexit process by sharing testimonies of EU nationals in the UK, and later UK nationals in the EU.
