Influencing OthersYou are already influencing others — be intentional about it.You ARE the Light (Matthew 5:14 “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden.):Influence is not optional for believers — it's inherentYour presence matters in every environment.Influence isn't about title or platform, but purpose and impact.Influence Requires Intentional Living (Ephesians 5:15-16 - So be careful how you live. Don't live like fools, but like those who are wise.16 Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days.):Busyness can distract us from divine opportunities.Ask: “Who has God placed in front of me today?”Influence is a calling, not a coincidence.God uses everyday moments to make eternal impact.Every Role Holds Influence:Whether you're a business leader, peer, parent, or grandparent — your example speaks louder than your words.Faithfulness in the small things creates lasting impact.Leadership begins with how you treat those in front of you. (James 4:17) Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it.Legacy is built through faithfulness, not fame.Influence Often Grows in the Quiet (Galatians 6:9 - So let's not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don't give up.):Legacy isn't always seen in the moment — it's reaped in the future.Like Lois and Eunice, your faith can ripple for generations.God uses ordinary moments to grow extraordinary legacies.Influence should point others to Jesus, not ourselves.Reflect Christ in All You Do (Matthew 5:16 - In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.):Influence isn't self-promotion; it's God-glorifying.Shine through service, love, and presence.Don't underestimate your role – even hidden seeds produce lasting fruit.Your circle is your calling — pay attention to who's around you.Be Present in Your Circle:Who's watching you? Who needs encouragement, prayer, or wisdom?Small moments can be sacred assignments.Stay faithful, stay present, and trust God to multiply your influence. In order for you to have a good influence, be careful about who you allow to influence you. Be careful about who you allow to speak into your life. Your influence will grow as you allow others to pour into you. Message for 03/30/2025 "Joy in Worthy Living" by Justin McTeer. *All verses are NLT unless otherwise noted* Philippians 1:27-30 - Above all, you must live as citizens of heaven, conducting yourselves in a manner worthy of the Good News about Christ. Then, whether I come and see you again or only hear about you, I will know that you are standing together with one spirit and one purpose, fighting together for the faith, which is the Good News. 28 Don't be intimidated in any way by your enemies. This will be a sign to them that they are going to be destroyed, but that you are going to be saved, even by God himself. 29 For you have been given not only the privilege of trusting in Christ but also the privilege of suffering for him. 30 We are in this struggle together. You have seen my struggle in the past, and you know that I am still in the midst of it. Philippians 1:27b - …[conduct] yourselves in a manner worthy of the Good News about Christ Axios Matthew 5:14-16 - “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. 15 No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. 1 Peter 1:16 - For the Scriptures say, “You must be holy because I am holy.” Philippians 1:27-30 - Above all, you must live as citizens of heaven, conducting yourselves in a manner worthy of the Good News about Christ. Stand together Ephesians 6:10-12 - A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on all of God's armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. 12 For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. 1 Thessalonians 5:11 - So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing. Romans 8:12 - Therefore, dear brothers and sisters, you have no obligation to do what your sinful nature urges you to do. Struggle together 1 Peter 5:9 - Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith. Remember that your family of believers all over the world is going through the same kind of suffering you are. Work together Philippians 2:1-2 - Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from his love? Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and compassionate? 2 Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose.

Certain behaviors impact all of our being, and if not disciplined they will derail other areas of our lives Certain behaviors impact all of our being, and if not disciplined they will derail other areas of our lives We can't become better while at the same time harming ourselves and others The discipline of purity helps us in all areas of our life because it's choosing to love God and others over self-gratification, which is the very definition of “becoming the me we're meant to be.” PURITY: Is NOT about sex being bad! It's about NOT exploiting people for self-gratification Purity is simply choosing to love God and others over our desire for self-gratification Two Sides of Purity: - Avoiding HARM - Pursuing HEALTH “You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket.” - Matthew 5:13-16 “In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.” - Matthew 5:13-16 “You have heard the commandment that says, ‘You must not commit adultery.' But I say, anyone who even looks at a person with lust has already committed adultery with them in their heart.” - Matthew 5:27-28 Objectifying people for sexual gratification is harmful! Discipline what we: -Allow our EYES to see -Allow our MINDS to imagine -Allow our BODIES to do “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness.” - Matthew 6:22-23 Discipline what we: -Allow our EYES to see -Allow our MINDS to imagine -Allow our BODIES to do We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. - 2nd Corinthians 10:5 What we: -Allow our eyes to see -Allow our minds to imagine -Allow our bodies to do Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. - Romans 12:1 The discipline of purity motived by love for Jesus and others… Aligns our actions with our aim to become who we're meant to be!

“You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house.” (Matthew 5:14–15 NLT) After Jesus said His followers are “the salt of the earth” (Matthew 5:13 NLT), He said we're also “the light of the world.” The contrast between those two images, salt and light, is interesting. Salt is hidden; light is obvious. If you've ever been in a movie theater when someone pulls out their phone to check messages or scroll through social media, you know how obvious light is in a dark place. Salt works secretly; light works openly. Salt works from within; light works from without. Salt represents an indirect influence of the gospel; light represents a more direct communication. Salt and light work in harmony. If I'm salty—that is, if I'm living as I ought to live as a follower of Jesus—it effectively earns me the right to let my light shine before others. By its very nature, light exposes darkness. Have you ever lost something in the dark? Maybe, say, a burrito in your car at night. You don't know where it went. But when you look the next morning, you find it with no problem. A little light exposed it. In the same way, when God's light shines in our lives, we see things we haven't seen before. In John 3:19, Jesus says, “And the judgment is based on this fact: God's light came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil” (nlt). People who are evil hate the light. They avoid it, lest their evil deeds be exposed. That's why if you ask certain people to go to church with you, you get an emphatic no. They want nothing to do with it. Or if you try to read a Bible passage, you get an objection. Church and God's Word shine spotlights into dark places. People don't want to come to the light or have a conversation about Jesus because they don't want to change their lifestyle. They've grown accustomed to the dark and don't want it exposed. Remember, though, light also shows the way out of darkness. When I'm in a hotel room, I leave a light on—usually in the bathroom—in case I need to go there in the middle of the night. When I'm navigating unfamiliar territory, I don't want to trip. The light helps me find my way through the darkness. In the same way, God's light helps people navigate through the darkness of this world so that they can find their way to Him. And Jesus gives us the privilege of being that light for others. — Listen to the Greg Laurie Podcast Become a Harvest PartnerSupport the show: https://harvest.org/supportSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
[Matthew 5:14-16] “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. [15] No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. [16] In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. Our life as a follower of Jesus should impact people around us in _________________ ways. [John 13:35] Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.” Our acts of _________________ don't get us into Heaven but they may _________________ other people get there. [Romans 2:4] Don't you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you? Can't you see that his kindness is intended to turn you from your sin? ______________________ KINDNESS [1 Corinthians 9:19-22 ISV] Although I am free from everyone's expectations, I have made myself a servant to all of them to win more people. [20] To the Jews I became like a Jew in order to win Jews. To those under the Law I became like a man under the Law, in order to win those under the Law (although I myself am not under the Law). [21] To those who do not have the Law, I became like a man who does not have the Law in order to win those who do not have the Law. However, I am not free from God's Law, but I'm subject to the Messiah's law. [22] To the weak I became weak in order to win the weak. I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some of them. Simple acts done with great LOVE can change the WORLD. ______________________ KINDNESS Proverbs 3:28 If you can help your neighbor now, don't say, “Come back tomorrow, and then I'll help you.” ________________ should be a signal for us to show kindness. [Luke 5:12-13] In one of the villages, Jesus met a man with an advanced case of leprosy. When the man saw Jesus, he fell to the ground, face down in the dust, begging to be healed. "Lord," he said, "if you want to, you can make me well again." [13] Jesus reached out and touched the man. "I want to," he said. "Be healed!" And instantly the leprosy disappeared. You don't have to _____________ everything to ___________ what God wants you to do. Doing _________________ things can impact people in extraordinary ways. What would the world around us look like if we decided to _________________ irrationally?
Have you heard the words of Jesus, ‘You are the light of the world'? You might think to yourself what a lovely idea, but I'm not the light of the world, I'm actually searching for light. I feel overwhelmed by darkness. Well, you're not meant to live this way. You're meant to be filled with light. And actually light up the world around you. When you walk with Jesus, you can have the light of the world in you- Jesus Himself, by the power and presence of His Spirit. You can be the light of the world. Submit your life to Jesus once and for all. Allow the Light of the world to shine His hope and truth, His power, and His presence into your life. And as you walk with Him, you will give light to everyone around you. Always remember, there is hope with God. "You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden." Matthew 5:14–16 “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.” On the face of it, it seems really surprising that Jesus should be describing his followers as the light of the world. Surely that was his role (John 8:12). But Jesus was recognising that the only way in which people would see his light would be if his followers reflected his light into their communities. It is, therefore, our responsibility to find the most prominent place to put our light so that as many people as possible can see Jesus. It is good that Christians spend time together. We need the strength and encouragement of worshipping and sharing fellowship. But, at the same time, it is vital for us to be part of our communities in order to have opportunities to share the light of Christ. When our diaries are so full of church meetings that we have no time for anything or anyone else, something has gone desperately wrong. How then will people see this light shining from our lives? Jesus indicated that it happens as people see our good deeds. We should never be looking for people's praise and recognition for our actions but, as we simply get on with being Christians in our daily lives, the light should shine. I have seen this happening time and again through Christians getting stuck into the work of food banks, street pastoring, homeless projects and befriending schemes - or simply being a good neighbour to those who live around them. It is important that our actions are complemented by talking about Jesus, but it is so often the actions that show that our message has credibility. We all have very different opportunities to shine the light of Christ. Your unique network of relationships will enable you to bring the light to places that may not be reached by anyone else. So, however minor and insignificant your good deeds might seem to be, keep them up and thank God that his light will shine through you. Question How has God enabled you to help others? Prayer Dear Lord, help me to live in such a way that others will see your light. Amen
24 “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. 25 Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won't collapse because it is built on bedrock. 26 But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn't obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. 27 When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.” 28 When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, - Matthew 7:24-28 (NLT) 46 “So why do you keep calling me ‘Lord, Lord!' when you don't do what I say? 47 I will show you what it's like when someone comes to me, listens to my teaching, and then follows it. 48 It is like a person building a house who digs deep and lays the foundation on solid rock. When the floodwaters rise and break against that house, it stands firm because it is well built. 49 But anyone who hears and doesn't obey is like a person who builds a house right on the ground, without a foundation. When the floods sweep down against that house, it will collapse into a heap of ruins.” - Luke 6:46-49 (NLT) 1. Listen to God's Word Listen personally Let me hear of Your unfailing love each morning, for I am trusting You. Show me where to walk, for I give myself to You. - Psalm 143:8* Listen publicly Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep His promise. Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of His return is drawing near. Hebrews 10:23-25* Listen purposefully All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip His people to do every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17* Listen passionately O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water. - Psalm 63:1 As the deer longs for streams of water, so I long for you, O God. - Psalm 42:1 2. Do what it says “But don't just listen to God's Word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.” - James 1:22 If you love me, obey my commandments. - John 14:15 And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength. And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. - Deut. 6:5-6 Do it with the right heart Proverbs 3:5-6 -Motivated by love -Carried out with joy Do it in the right mind -Surrounded by peace -Driven with patience Do it in His name -Completed with kindness, gentleness and self-control “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. Matthew 5 NLT read aloud by Simon MacFarlane. 1 One day as he saw the crowds gathering, Jesus went up on the mountainside and sat down. His disciples gathered around him, 2 and he began to teach them. 3 “God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.4 God blesses those who mourn, for they will be comforted.5 God blesses those who are humble, for they will inherit the whole earth.6 God blesses those who hunger and thirst for justice, for they will be satisfied.7 God blesses those who are merciful, for they will be shown mercy.8 God blesses those whose hearts are pure, for they will see God.9 God blesses those who work for peace, for they will be called the children of God.10 God blesses those who are persecuted for doing right, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs. 11 “God blesses you when people mock you and persecute you and lie about you and say all sorts of evil things against you because you are my followers. 12 Be happy about it! Be very glad! For a great reward awaits you in heaven. And remember, the ancient prophets were persecuted in the same way. 13 “You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless. 14 “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. 15 No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. 17 “Don't misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets. No, I came to accomplish their purpose. 18 I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not even the smallest detail of God's law will disappear until its purpose is achieved. 19 So if you ignore the least commandment and teach others to do the same, you will be called the least in the Kingdom of Heaven. But anyone who obeys God's laws and teaches them will be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven. 20 “But I warn you—unless your righteousness is better than the righteousness of the teachers of religious law and the Pharisees, you will never enter the Kingdom of Heaven! 21 “You have heard that our ancestors were told, ‘You must not murder. If you commit murder, you are subject to judgment.' 22 But I say, if you are even angry with someone, you are subject to judgment! If you call someone an idiot, you are in danger of being brought before the court. And if you curse someone, you are in danger of the fires of hell. 23 “So if you are presenting a sacrifice at the altar in the Temple and you suddenly remember that someone has something against you, 24 leave your sacrifice there at the altar. Go and be reconciled to that person. Then come and offer your sacrifice to God. 25 “When you are on the way to court with your adversary, settle your differences quickly. Otherwise, your accuser may hand you over to the judge, who will hand you over to an officer, and you will be thrown into prison. 26 And if that happens, you surely won't be free again until you have paid the last penny. 27 “You have heard the commandment that says, ‘You must not commit adultery.' 28 But I say, anyone who even looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart. 29 So if your eye—even your good eye—causes you to lust, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. 30 And if your hand—even your stronger hand—causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. 31 “You have heard the law that says, ‘A man can divorce his wife by merely giving her a written notice of divorce.' Pastor Taylor Shippy - Matthew 6:1-6, 16-18 Jesus told His disciples: “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden... So let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father” (Matt 5:14, 16). However if you keep listening to Jesus' mountain side sermon… Jesus will eventually also say: ‘Be careful! Watch out! Take heed! Don't showcase your good deeds in front of others to be seen by others. If you do, you will lose, forfeit, your wages from your Father who art heaven' (Matt 6:1). How do we let our good deeds shine “like stars in the sky” (Phil 2:15) while also at the same time avoiding others seeing us?
Matthew 5:14 One of the most famous of Jesus' I am sayings was: “I am the light of the world” (John 8:12). Those words don't come as any surprise to us. He was the Son of God and was without sin. He was clearly able to claim that his perfect life radiated light for all to see. But in today's verse we are told that we are the light of the world, despite being far from perfect. Jesus' challenging words have some very practical implications. First of all, to be of any use, light must be put in a prominent position. Just as you cannot hide a city on a hilltop so too Christians need to shine their light for all to see. These days you will often hear people say that religious faith is a private matter, as if it is something that you can do quietly at home without affecting anyone else. That is precisely not the case with Christian faith. It must be shared. Most of the time the influence we will have will not be with our words but with our actions. As people see the sacrificial love of Christians for one another and for vulnerable members of the community, they will see something of the light. It is clear that the light that shines from us is not our light. What we are doing is simply reflecting the light of Christ to others. So the other major implication of this amazing verse is that we need to ensure that we are staying very close to Jesus. It's as we get to know him better and build our lives on his words, that we will have light to share with others. And that light will, like all light, help to guide people as they pick their way through this confusing and often very dark world. Question In what ways might you be able to be a light for Christ today? Prayer Lord Jesus, I worship you because you are the light of the world. Help me to stay so close to you that I will be able to pass on your light to others. Amen

As we study and learn from Jesus' Sermon on the Mount, we are reminded of our calling to be salt and light. Let's discover what that means together as we study Matthew 5:13-16; Mark 9:49-50, 4:21; and Luke 14:34-35, 8:16. **** Welcome to Walking in the Word, the biblical teaching arm of the Women World leaders Podcast. I'm your host, Julie Jenkins. Thank you for joining us as we walk through the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John chronologically. Our goal for these few minutes together is that we would take our eyes off ourselves in the busyness of our own lives, agendas to-do lists and responsibilities. I pray that as you take time out today to listen to God, He will speak to your heart and guide you as only he can. If you need prayer support in this busy season, please reach out to us at womenworldleaders.com and post a prayer request on our prayer wall. We're here to hold you up. Before we begin our study, let's pause for prayer. Most Holy God, thank you, thank you for being our all in all our Abba Father, our provider, sustainer healer, and our salvation. God, we come to you today from so many walks of life. And yet you intimately know where we each are in what we each need. God, we rest in your presence. And thank you in advance for the care, teaching, and guidance that you will provide for us. We give you these next few minutes, and we ask that you have your way with us and guide us into your truth. In Jesus name, I pray. Amen. Sit back and soak in God's Word while I read Matthew five verses 13 and 16. From the New Living Translation. You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it's lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless. You are the light of the world like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. We know from Matthew 5:2 that in this passage Jesus was teaching the disciples. He had told them about the kingdom of heaven and the attributes and rewards God offers to his children as they walk in obedience to Him. Now Jesus gives the disciples two descriptions of who they are. And he tells us by extension who we are. And we know that what God says about us is true. Sometimes we think less of ourselves than God does. And it is in those moments that we have to listen especially hard to what God says. Because he knows us better than we know ourselves. And what he says is true. So, in today's reading, God calls you the salt of the earth, and the light of the world. Let's take this apart. First you are the salt of the earth. What do you suppose is the meaning behind this? While you're likely familiar with salt as a preservative, this would have been top of mind in a society void of refrigeration. Salt keeps food fresh and edible for a longer period of time than it would be without it. Salt accomplishes this feat by inhibiting the growth of bacteria, which in other words means salt allows food to remain as God made it to be, and to be used as God created it to be used. When God says that we are the salt of the earth, He is saying that we have a job to do: to preserve the world as God intended it. When God created the world, everything was perfect, peaceful, joyful, and meaningful. But sin entered into the world and sin was like a bacteria that began to grow and was infectious. God empowers us, his children, to stand against sin, and to inhibit sins growth, by our actions and reactions. By allowing God's power to operate in us, we are salt preserving life, the way God intended it to be. You are the salt of the earth. You have a responsibility to live life on behalf of God. Salt in the Bible was also a symbol of covenant. This also has to do with its attribute as a preservative. A covenant was not to be broken; God will never break his covenant with His children. Once we give our lives to Him, we are sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit and we belong to God forever. If you have given your life to Christ, you are the salt of the earth, carrying his covenant promises. Nothing and nobody can change that. Salt in biblical times was a symbol of friendship and loyalty. Salt is salt, no matter what you do to it. You put it in your food and your food tastes salty. You put it in water and allow the water to evaporate, the salt remains behind. Our God is loyal. And as Christians we are called to carry on that loyalty. You are the salt of the earth. Though the world will test you, you have the power within to remain loyal to the one who saved you. Salt is a necessary source of nourishment. It's an important element in a person's diet. And as such, salt is highly valuable. In the Old Testament when God required sacrifices, he required that the offering be seasoned with salt. It was necessary, and it was valuable. You are the salt of the earth. You are necessary and you are valuable. And let's face it, salt makes food worth eating. Who doesn't love a little salty sweet action and their taste buds. In my opinion, nothing beats chocolate chip cookies with a sprinkle of sea salt on top. Salt brings out the true flavor of the food and makes eating a joy and a pleasure. You are the salt of the earth You were created to bring joy and pleasure to God himself. But Matthew records that Jesus continues, What good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again, it will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless. Salt can lose its flavor. Bakers at the time used salt blocks to line their ovens. After a time, the high and prolonged heat of the oven caused the salt to crystallize and become useless. It had to be thrown out. Luke says in 14:35, flavorless salt is good neither for the soil, nor for the manure pile, it is thrown away. The heat of the world is intense, more intense at times than that of a baker's oven. But as Jesus disciples, you and I are called to stay under God's protection and to keep our saltiness intact so that we can stand against the spread of sin. Live the life that God intended for us to live out our lives in covenant with him. claim our high value in a world filled with imposters and bring joy and pleasure to God. Don't let the heat of the world claim the saltiness that God has gifted you. Mark 9:49 through 50 gives this guidance for every one will be tested with fire. Can I get an amen on that one? Salt is good for seasoning, but if it loses its flavor, how do you make it salty again, you must have the qualities of salt among yourselves and live in peace with each other. The next thing that Jesus tells His disciples is not only are they the salt of the earth, but in Matthew 5:14. You are the light of the world, like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. Have you ever flown into a city at night seeing the pinpoints of light from high above is one of my favorite sights. At night, the Earth is blanketed in darkness. But the lights of a city are unmistakable. There weren't airplanes in Jesus' day and the world didn't move quite as fast as it does today. A traveler who saw the lights of the city in the distance, would see safety and protection at the end of a long journey. Or, at the very least, lodging and food. In other words, rest and sustenance. Jesus is indeed our lighthouse in a dark harbor. Our protection and safety, our rest and sustenance. And we, as his followers, reflect God's light into this dark world. And we too, are a light for others who are searching in the dark. Jesus says You are the light of the world and he continues, No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. The light we shine is to lead others to God to show them the way to get to the kingdom of heaven. God wants us to welcome everyone we know to his city. We can shine the light of God by sharing the gospel message with others and by encouraging others to walk in their God-given purposes. That is our goal at Women World Leaders to shine our lights that you might shine yours. One of my main jobs at Women World Leaders is editing. I edit the Voice of Truth magazine and I edit the books put out by World Publishing and Productions. We are currently working on several books that are compilations of stories of victories and spiritual growth that individuals have walked through in their lives, and how they have allowed Jesus, even through their turmoil, to keep their lamps lit, so that they might hold them high to shine for His glory. These authors are truly the light of the world showcasing that even when we walk through the unthinkable — abuse, abandonment, shame, temptation—we can shine our light brightly. If you feel your light dimming, know that God is guiding you; you only to follow his light. And he will purposefully use everything that you are going through to strengthen you and give you the honor of bringing others to him. Mark says in 4:22 For everything that is hidden will eventually be brought into the open and every secret will be brought to light. The Bible tells us that anything the devil meant for evil in your world, God can use for good. When we allow God to shine his light on us. He gives us the honor and privilege of shining that light to beckon others into the kingdom. Luke concludes his account of this teaching in Luke 818. So pay attention to how you hear. to those who listen to my teaching, more understanding will be given. But for those who are not listening, even what they think they understand, will be taken away from them. You were created to be salt and light. There is no doubt about that. But what you do with your salt and light is up to you. Jesus warns us to pay attention and not take his teaching lightly. The more we obediently walk in the wisdom that God guides us with, the more wisdom he will provide. Don't hold the Holy Spirit back in your life. Unleash His presence by your obedience and your light will shine brighter than you can possibly imagine. Let's pray. Father, we thank you for making us who we are and for giving us the experiences you have given us. God, I thank you for the privilege of being salt in this sinful world and light in this dark world. God, I ask that you empower us by your presence and strength to shine so brightly on your behalf, that the whole world will see your glory. In Jesus name, I pray, Amen.
Matthew 9:35-38 35 Jesus traveled through all the towns and villages of that area, teaching in the synagogues and announcing the Good News about the Kingdom. And He healed every kind of disease and illness. 36 When He saw the crowds, He had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 He said to His disciples, “The harvest is great, but the workers are few. 38 So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask Him to send more workers into his fields.” Matthew 11:28-30 28 Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” John 20:19-29 19 That Sunday evening the disciples were meeting behind locked doors because they were afraid of the Jewish leaders. Suddenly, Jesus was standing there among them! “Peace be with you,” He said. 20 As He spoke, He showed them the wounds in His hands and His side. They were filled with joy when they saw the Lord! 21 Again He said, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent Me, so I am sending you.” 22 Then He breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive anyone's sins, they are forgiven. If you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.” 24 One of the twelve disciples, Thomas (nicknamed the Twin), was not with the others when Jesus came. 25 They told him, “We have seen the Lord!” But he replied, “I won't believe it unless I see the nail wounds in his hands, put my fingers into them, and place my hand into the wound in His side.” 26 Eight days later the disciples were together again, and this time Thomas was with them. The doors were locked; but suddenly, as before, Jesus was standing among them. “Peace be with you,” He said. 27 Then He said to Thomas, “Put your finger here, and look at my hands. Put your hand into the wound in my side. Don't be faithless any longer. Believe!” 28 “My Lord and my God!” Thomas exclaimed. 29 Then Jesus told him, “You believe because you have seen me. Blessed are those who believe without seeing me.” 1) He meets you where you are. (v.19) John 14:27 “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don't be troubled or afraid. John 16:33 I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth, you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” 2) He shows you His love. (v.20) Romans 5:8 But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. Eph 3:18-19: And may you have the power to understand, as all God's people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God. 3) He gives you a new purpose. (v. 21) Matthew 5:3-16 3 “God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs. 4 God blesses those who mourn, for they will be comforted. 5 God blesses those who are humble, for they will inherit the whole earth. 6 God blesses those who hunger and thirst for justice, for they will be satisfied. 7 God blesses those who are merciful, for they will be shown mercy. 8 God blesses those whose hearts are pure, for they will see God. 9 God blesses those who work for peace, for they will be called the children of God. 10 God blesses those who are persecuted for doing right, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs. 11 “God blesses you when people mock you and persecute you and lie about you and say all sorts of evil things against you because you are my followers. 12 Be happy about it! Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. 5) He offers grace and second chances. (v. 24) 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me. That's why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong. Bible Reading: Matthew 5:15-16On a sunny summer afternoon, Kayla and her parents decided to take a walk through the woods. When they first moved to the farm, Dad had cleared a path that looped through the woods at the back of their property.Kayla loved walking in the woods with her parents. She would often just stand still and take in the sounds and smells of the forest. It was always so peaceful and beautiful. As she rounded a curve in the path, something caught Kayla's eye. "Mom, Dad, come look at this!" she called.Mom and Dad walked over to where Kayla was standing. On the ground, nestled between a bunch of leaves and sticks, was a bright purple flower."Wow, that flower was hidden well," Dad said.Mom nodded. "If you hadn't been standing right there, we would have missed it.""It's too pretty to just leave hidden out here. Can I pick it and take it home?" Kayla asked.Mom checked her phone to make sure it was okay to pick, and then Kayla carefully picked the flower and held on to it as they continued on around the path. Once they reached the house, Kayla grabbed a vase from under the kitchen sink, filled it with water, and placed the flower in it. She set the vase on the table so they all could enjoy it."It's so beautiful!" Kayla exclaimed.During devotions that evening, Dad read some verses from the book of Matthew. "You know, that flower you found in the woods today is a good example of this Bible lesson," he said when he finished reading. "The flower was just so bright and beautiful that you couldn't leave it hidden in the woods. You wanted everyone to see it. Well, this verse is saying that's what we're like as Christians. We have the light of Jesus in us, and we shouldn't try to hide it. We need to shine bright like that flower so that others can see the beauty of His love in our lives."That night when Kayla went to bed, she prayed that the Lord would help her be a shining light for Him. She wanted others to see Jesus in her life. -Lisa FullerHow About You?Does your life reflect the light of Jesus? Can others see Him when they look at you? As Christians, it's important for us to be a light for Jesus. Others should be able to see His love and goodness in the way we treat them and know that He makes a difference in our lives. Don't keep your light hidden--shine brightly for Jesus today and every day!Today's Key Verse:You are the light of the world--like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. (NLT) (Matthew 5:14 )Today's Key Thought:Be a light for Jesus
Last week, we learned about three kinds of gifts: ministry, manifestation, and motivational. Today, we expand on our discussion by talking about becoming the gift to the world we were always meant to be. Matthew 5:14-16 "You are the light of the world - like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No on elights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your Heavenly Father".
Kristin Thibodeaux “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.”
This week pastor Travis continues with the sermon series Unashamed Pt.4.Isaiah 12:4 (NLT)4 In that wonderful day you will sing: “Thank the Lord! Praise his name!Tell the nations what he has done. Let them know how mighty he is!Matthew 5:14-16. (NLT)14 “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. 15 No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.Acts 4:29 (NLT)29 And now, O Lord, hear their threats, and give us, your servants, great boldness in preaching your word.Read Acts 3:3-16It's not about giving a hand out, It's about giving a hand up.
We are called to be a light on a hill for all to see the work God is doing in our life so that people will praise our Father in Heaven. So let's take the hill! In this message, Pastor Phil walks us through that process. There are ways to show and tell the world about the love of Christ, and that means that we can't look like the world. Check out the ways in which the following steps are important in taking the hill and being the light to a world of darkness.- Confess our sin to Jesus- Ask for His grace and mercy to guide and lead us- Remove places of darkness in our life- Find others who will take the hill with us.(Matthew 5 tells us, “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.")
Now may the God of peace make you holy in every way, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ comes again. 1 Thessalonians 5:23 NLT 3 PARTS 1. THE SOUL MIND WILL EMOTIONS “So fear the Lord and serve him wholeheartedly. Put away forever the idols your ancestors worshiped when they lived beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt. Serve the Lord alone. But if you refuse to serve the Lord, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord .” Joshua 24:14-15 NLT 2. THE BODY Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away. These desires give birth to sinful actions. And when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death. So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.” John 13:34-35 NLT “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. Matthew 5:14-16 NLT If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn't love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal 1 Corinthians 13:1 NLT “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. Matthew 5:14-16 NLT We are multipliers! We are a Great Commission Church which means we are multipliers. Individually, we are all responsible to disciple those younger in their faith and invite those far from Jesus into a life-giving community. Corporately, we are called to plant churches, pastor cities, and father and mother leaders to multiply the Kingdom impact. We are multipliers! God's purpose in all this was to use the church to display his wisdom in its rich variety to all the unseen rulers and authorities in the heavenly places. Ephesians 3:10 NLT When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” “Well,” they replied, “some say John the Baptist, some say Elijah, and others say Jeremiah or one of the other prophets.” Then he asked them, “But who do you say I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Jesus replied, “You are blessed, Simon son of John, because my Father in heaven has revealed this to you. You did not learn this from any human being. Now I say to you that you are Peter (which means ‘rock'), and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it. And I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven. Whatever you forbid on earth will be forbidden in heaven, and whatever you permit on earth will be permitted in heaven.” Matthew 16:13-19 NLT 1. A PERSON OF POSITIVE INFLUENCE BREAKS THE DISEASE OF ME. This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you. There is no greater love than to lay down one's life for one's friends. John 15:12-13 NLT But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must be the slave of everyone else. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:43-45 NLT 2. A PERSON OF POSITIVE INFLUENCE WILL STOP AT NOTHING TO SEE THEIR LOVED ONES HEALED Soon the house where he was staying was so packed with visitors that there was no more room, even outside the door. While he was preaching God's word to them, four men arrived carrying a paralyzed man on a mat. They couldn't bring him to Jesus because of the crowd, so they dug a hole through the roof above his head. Then they lowered the man on his mat, right down in front of Jesus. Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralyzed man, “My child, your sins are forgiven.” Mark 2:2-5 NLT “Your life is like the morning fog—it's here a little while, then it's gone.” James 4:4 NLT “Lord, remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered — how fleeting my life is. Psalms 39:4 NLT (God) who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth. 1 Timothy 2:4 NLT Then Jesus said, “What is the Kingdom of God like? How can I illustrate it? It is like a tiny mustard seed that a man planted in a garden; it grows and becomes a tree, and the birds make nests in its branches.” He also asked, “What else is the Kingdom of God like? It is like the yeast a woman used in making bread. Even though she put only a little yeast in three measures of flour, it permeated every part of the dough.”Luke 13:18-21 NLT We are multipliers! We are a Great Commission Church which means we are multipliers. We are multipliers!

As we continue on our journey with Jesus, we are reminded of our calling to be salt and light. Let's discover what that means together as we study Matthew 5:13-16; Mark 9:49-50, 4:21; and Luke 14:34-35, 8:16. ************* Welcome to Walking in the Word. I'm your host, Julie Jenkins. Thank you for joining us as we walk through the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John chronologically. Our goal for these few minutes together is that we would take our eyes off ourselves in the busyness of our own lives, agendas to do lists and responsibilities. I know that here in South Florida, we are busy ramping up for the start of the school year. And with the start of school comes new schedules and time constraints, as well as other worldly pressures. I pray that as you take time out today to listen to God, that He will speak to your heart and guide you as only he can. If you need prayer support in this busy season, please reach out to us at women world leaders.com and post a prayer request on our prayer wall. We're here to hold you up. Before we begin our study, let's pause for prayer. Most Holy God, thank you, thank you for being our all in all our Abba Father, our provider, sustainer healer, and our salvation. God we come to you today from so many walks of life. And yet you intimately know where we each are in what we each need. God we rest in your presence. And thank you in advance for the care teaching and guidance that you will provide for us. God, I pray for any parent, student, teacher or school worker who is entering this new school year that you will cover her in your care and fill her with your strength and your wisdom that she may fulfill the role well, that you have called her to. We give you these next few minutes and we ask that you have your way with us and guide us into your truth. In Jesus name I pray. Amen. I'm going to read Matthew 5 verses 13 and 16. From the New Living Translation. You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it's lost its flavor. Can you make it salty again, it will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless. You are the light of the world like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden, hidden. No one likes a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. We know that, from Matthew 5:2, that in this passage, Jesus was teaching the disciples, he had told them about the kingdom of heaven and the attributes and rewards God offers to his children as they walk in obedience to Him. Now Jesus gives the disciples two descriptions of who they are. And he tells us by extension who we are. And we know that what God says about us is true. Sometimes we think less of ourselves than God does. And it is in those moments that we have to listen especially hard to what God says. Because he knows us better than we know ourselves in what he says is true. So in today's reading, God calls you the salt of the earth, and the light of the world. Let's take this apart. First you are the salt of the earth. What do you suppose is the meaning behind this? While you're likely familiar with salt as a preservative, which would have been top of mind in a society void of refrigeration. Salt keeps food fresh and edible for a longer period of time than it would be without it. Salt accomplishes this feat by inhibiting the growth of bacteria, which in other words means salt allows food to remain as God made it to be and to be used As God created it to be used. When God says that we are the salt of the earth, He is saying that we have a job to do to preserve the world as God intended it. You are the salt of the earth, you have a responsibility to live life on behalf of God. Salt in the Bible was also a symbol of covenant. This also has to do with its attribute as a preservative. A covenant was not to be broken, God will never break his covenant with His children. Once we give our lives to Him, we are sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit and we belong to God forever. If you have given your life to Christ, you are the salt of the earth, carrying his covenant promises nothing and nobody can change that. Salt in biblical times was a symbol of friendship and loyalty. Salt is salt no matter what you do to it, you put it in your food and your food tastes salty. And as such salt is highly valuable. In the Old Testament when God required sacrifices he required that the offering be seasoned with salt. It was necessary and it was valuable. But Matthew records that Jesus continues what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again, it will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless. Salt can lose its flavor the era Baker's at the time used salt blocks to line their ovens. After a time the high and prolonged heat of the oven caused the salt to crystallize and become useless. It had to be thrown out. Luke says in 1435 flavorless salt is good neither for the soil, nor for the manure pile, it is thrown away. Mark 949 through 50 gives this guidance for every one will be tested with fire. Can I get an amen on that one? Salt is good for seasoning, but if it loses its flavor, how do you make it salty again, you must have the qualities of salt among yourselves and live in peace with each other. The next thing that Jesus tells His disciples is not only are they the salt of the earth, but in Matthew 514. You are the light of the world, like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. Have you ever flown into a city at night seeing the pinpoints of light from high above is one of my favorite sights. At night, the Earth is blanketed in darkness. But the lights of a city are unmistakable. There weren't airplanes in Jesus day and the world didn't move quite as fast as it does today. A traveler who saw the lights of the city in the distance, would see safety and protection at the end of a long journey. Or at the very least lodging and food in other words, rest and sustenance. Jesus is indeed our lighthouse in a dark harbor. Our protection and safety are rest and sustenance. And we as his followers reflect God's light into this dark world. We can shine the light of God by sharing the gospel message with others and by encouraging others to walk in there God given purposes. That is our goal at women, world leaders to shine our lights that you might shine yours. One of my main jobs that women were leaders is editing, I edit the voice of truth magazine and I edit the books put out by the by World publishing and productions. We are currently working on two books that will be released in just a couple of months. These books are compilations of stories of victories and spiritual growth that women have walked through in their lives, and how they have allowed Jesus even through their turmoil, to keep their lamps lit, that they might hold them high to shine for His glory. These women are truly the light of the world. Even though they have walked through abuse, abandonment, shame and temptation. Their lights are shining brightly. If you feel your light dimming, know that God is guiding you even need only to follow his light. And he will purposefully use everything that you are going through to strengthen you and give you the honor of bringing others to him. Mark says in for 22 For everything that is hidden will eventually be brought into the open and every secret will be brought to light. The Bible tells us that anything the devil meant for evil in your world, God can use for good. When we allow God to shine his light on us. He gives us the honor and privilege of shining that light to beckon others into the kingdom. Luke concludes his account of this teaching in Luke 818. So pay attention to how you hear to those who listen to my teaching, more understanding will be given. Don't hold the Holy Spirit back in your life. unleash his presence by your our obedience and your light will shine brighter than you can possibly imagine. Let's pray. Father, we thank you for making us who we are and forgiving us the experiences you have given us. God I thank you for the privilege of being salt in this sinful world and light in this dark world. God, I ask that you empower us by your presence and strength to shine so brightly on your behalf, that the whole world will see your work Laurie. In Jesus name I pray, Amen. Message for 09/04/2022 "When I Feel Down" by Justin McTeer. *All verses are NLT unless otherwise noted* 2 Peter 1:3a - By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. 1 Peter 2:9 - But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God's very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light. Ephesians 5:11 - Take no part in the worthless deeds of evil and darkness; instead, expose them. John 8:12 - Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won't have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.” John 3:18-21 - “There is no judgment against anyone who believes in him. But anyone who does not believe in him has already been judged for not believing in God's one and only Son. 19 And the judgment is based on this fact: God's light came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil. 20 All who do evil hate the light and refuse to go near it for fear their sins will be exposed. 21 But those who do what is right come to the light so others can see that they are doing what God wants.” Live in the Light of Jesus. John 8:12 - Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won't have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.” Philippians 1:21-23 - For to me, living means living for Christ, and dying is even better. 22 But if I live, I can do more fruitful work for Christ. So I really don't know which is better. 23 I'm torn between two desires: I long to go and be with Christ, which would be far better for me. 1 John 1:5-10 - This is the message we heard from Jesus and now declare to you: God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all. 6 So we are lying if we say we have fellowship with God but go on living in spiritual darkness; we are not practicing the truth. 7 But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin. 8 If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. 9 But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we are calling God a liar and showing that his word has no place in our hearts. 1 John 2:1-2 - My dear children, I am writing this to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous. 2 He himself is the sacrifice that atones for our sins—and not only our sins but the sins of all the world. live as the light of Jesus Matthew 5:14-16 - You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. 15 No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. Matthew 6:22-23 - “Your eye is like a lamp that provides light for your body. When your eye is healthy, your whole body is filled with light. 23 But when your eye is unhealthy, your whole body is filled with darkness. And if the light you think you have is actually darkness, how deep that darkness is! Mark 10:45 - For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Matthew 5:16 - In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. Psalm 139:11-12 - I could ask the darkness to hide me and the light around me to become night—12 but even in darkness I cannot hide from you. To you the night shines as bright as day. Darkness and light are the same to you. John 1:4-5 - The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it. John 8:12 - Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won't have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.”

But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless. “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets. No, I came to accomplish their purpose. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not even the smallest detail of God's law will disappear until its purpose is achieved. So if you ignore the least commandment and teach others to do the same, you will be called the least in the Kingdom of Heaven. But anyone who obeys God's laws and teaches them will be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven. “But I warn you—unless your righteousness is better than the righteousness of the teachers of religious law and the Pharisees, you will never enter the Kingdom of Heaven! 1) What the world needs now. - Salt - Light 2) Finding our way. - Map - Compass 3) The Church is the hope of the world.
Have you ever been to a candle shop or watched people make candles? There are so many variations in candles! It seems like the possibilities are almost limitless. Differences in size, shape, color, design, fragrance, intended use, rate of burn—all these contribute to the huge variety in candles. But there is at least one thing all candles have in common: they are meant to burn and give off light. I think we are a lot like candles. Jesus said, “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father” (Matthew 5:14-16). God created us as individuals, and no two of us are alike. Our various traits—our strengths, talents, abilities, spiritual gifts, and even weaknesses—were given to us so that we could glorify God. He delights in us, and He invites us to share His love with others. Do you meet people easily and make friends quickly? You might be able to befriend people who don't know Jesus and show them God's kindness. Do you like working behind the scenes, organizing, and planning? You could use your abilities to help operations in your church go smoothly and create opportunities for people to hear the gospel—the good news about Jesus. Do you like to preach or teach? Meet the physical needs of others? Encourage people who are despairing? Whatever gifts and abilities God has given you, He will empower you to use them to do good to others. Let people see God's love through you. Let them see God's mercy, grace, peace, and kindness. Shine brightly! Shine, not to show others how good you are, but to show them how good our God is! • Rebecca Moore • Has someone in your life been a light to you, helping you know God better by the way they lived? Living In The Light - Part 4 Ephesians 5:15-20 So be careful how you live. Don't live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Don't act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do. Don't be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts. And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Intro: Matthew 5:14 You are the light of the world-like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. Luke 11:36 If you are filled with light, with no dark corners, then your whole life will be radiant, as though a floodlight were filling you with light. Be Careful How You Live Ephesians 5:15 So be careful how you live. Don't live like fools, but like those who are wise. Philippians 2:15 ...so that no one can criticize you. Live clean, innocent lives as children of God, shining like bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people. Make the Most of Every Opportunity Ephesians 5:16 Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Colossians 4:5-6 Live wisely among those who are not believers, and make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be gracious and attractive so that you will have the right response for everyone. Understand What the Lord Wants You to Do Ephesians 5:17 Don't act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do. Ephesians 5:10 Carefully determine what pleases the Lord. Matthew 6:10-13 May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us today the food we need, and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us. And don't let us yield to temptation, but rescue us from the evil one. Be Filled With the Spirit Ephesians 5:18 Don't be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, Acts 1:8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere-in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. Keep Worshipping Ephesians 5:19 Singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts. Hebrews 13:15 Therefore, let us offer through Jesus a continual sacrifice of praise of God, proclaiming our allegiance to his name. Give Thanks Ephesians 5:20 And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.
Living in the Light - Part 3 The Dark Side vs. The Light Side The Dark Side Revelation 12:7-9 Then there was war in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon and his angels. And the dragon lost the battle, and he and his angels were forced out of heaven. This great dragon-the ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, the one deceiving the whole world-was thrown down to the earth with all his angels. Isaiah 14:12-17 How you are fallen from heaven, O Day Star, son of Dawn! How you are cut down to the ground, you who laid the nations low! You said in your heart, "I will ascend to heaven; above the stars of God I will set my throne on high; I will sit on the mount of assembly in the far reaches of the north; I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High." But you are brought down to Sheol, to the far reaches of the pit. Those who see you will stare at you and ponder over you: "Is this the man who made the earth tremble, who shook the kingdoms, who made the world like a desert and overthrew its cities, who did not let his prisoners go home?" Ezekiel 28:12-19 "You were the signet of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. You were in Eden, the garden of God; every precious stone was your covering, sardius, topaz, and diamond, beryl, onyx, and jasper, sapphire, emerald, and carbuncle; and crafted in gold were your settings and your engravings. On the day that you were created they were prepared. You were an anointed guardian cherub. I placed you; you were on the holy mountain of God; in the midst of the stones of fire you walked. You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created, till unrighteousness was found in you.In the abundance of your trade you were filled with violence in your midst, and you sinned; so I cast you as a profance thing from the mountain of God, and I destroyed you, O guardian cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire. Your heart was proud because of your beauty; you corrupted your wisdom for the sake of your splendor. I cast you to the ground; I exposed you before kings, to feast their eyes on you. By the multitude of your iniquities, in the unrighteousnss of your trade you profaned your sanctuaries; so I brought fire out from your midst; it consumed you, and I turned you to ashes on the earth in the sight of all who saw you. All who know you among the peoples are appalled at you; you have come to a dreadful end and shall be no more forever." Genesis 3:14-15 Then the Lord God said to the serpent, "Because you have done this, you are cursed more than all animals, domestic and wild. You will crawl on your belly, grovelling in the dust as long as you live. And I will cause hostility between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring. He will strike your head, and you will strike his heel." Matthew 23:33 Snakes! Sons of vipers! How will you escape the judgment of hell? Matthew 23:42-44 Jesus told them, "If God were your Father, you would love me, because I have come to you from God. I am not here on my own, but he sent me. Why can't you understand what I am saying? It's because you can't even hear me! For you are the children of your father the devil, and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies." The Light Side John 8:12 Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, "I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won't have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life." Matthew 5:14 You are the light of the world. Genesis 1:27-28 So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. Then God blessed them and said, "Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth and govern it. Reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, and all the animals that scurry along the ground." 2 Peter 2:9 ...you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God's very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light. Matthew 5:14 You are the light of the world-like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. Luke 10:17-18 When the seventy-two disciples returned, they joyfully reported to him, "Lord, even the demons obey us when we use your name!" "Yes," he told them, "I saw Satan fall from heaven like lightning! Look, I have given you authority over all the power of the enemy, and you can walk among snakes and scorpions and crush them. Nothing will injure you. but don't rejoice because evil spirits obey you; rejoice because your names are registered in heaven." Ephesians 6:10-17 A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God's armors so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. Therefore, put on every piece of God's armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God's righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere. John 1:5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.
Living in the Light Part 2 Ephesians 5:1-11 Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children. Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God. Let there be no sexual immorality, impurity, or greed among you. Such sins have no place among God's people. Obscene stories, foolish talk, and coarse jokes-these are not for you. Instead, let there be thankfullness to God. You can be sure that no immoral, impure, or greedy person will inherit the Kingdom of Christ and of God. For a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world. Don't be fooled by those who try to excuse these sins, for the anger of God will fall on all who disobey him. Don't participate in the things othese people do. For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light! For this light within you produces only what is good and right and true. Carefully determine what pleases the Lord. Take no part in the worthless deeds of evil and darkness; instead, expose them. Intro: Matthew 5:14-16 You are the light of the world-like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. Live to Be Imitators of God Ephesians 5:1 Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children. 1 Corinthians 11:1 And you should imitate me, just as I imitate Christ. Live With Love Ephesians 5:2 Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God. Matthew 16:24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross, and follow me." 1 Corinthians 13:3 If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it; but if I didn't love others, I would have gained nothing. Live a Thankful Life Ephesians 5:4 Obscene stories, foolish talk, and coarse jokes-these are not for you. Instead, let there be thankfulness to God. Colossians 3:17 And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you who belong to Christ Jesus. Live in God's Light Ephesians 5:6-8 Don't be fooled by those who try to excuse these sins, for the anger of God will fall on all who disobey him. Don't participate in the things these people do. For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light! Galatians 4:9 So now that you know God (or should I say, now that God knows you), why do you want to go back again and become slaves once more to the weak and useless spiritual principles of this world? Luke 11:35-36 Make sure that the light you think you have is not actually darkness. If you are filled with light, with no dark corners, then your whole life will be radiant, as though a floodlight were filling you with light. Live Focusing of Good Ephesians 5:9-10 For this light within you produces only what is good and right and true. Carefully determine what pleases the Lord. Matthew 5:14-16 You are the light of the world-like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. Galatians 6:9 So let's not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don't give up.
Living in the Light Part 1 Ephesians 4:17-32 With the Lord's authority I say this: Live no longer as the Gentiles do, for they are hopelessly confused. Their minds are full of darkness; they wander far from the life God gives because they have closed their minds and hardened their hearts against him. They have no sense of shame. They live for lustful pleasure and eagerly practice every kind of impurity. But that isn't what you learned about Christ. Since you have heard about Jesus and have learned the truth that comes from him, throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God - truly righteous and holy. So stop telling lies. Let us tell our neighbors the truth, for we are all parts of the same body. And don't sin by letting anger control you. Don't let the sun go down while you are still angry, for anger gives a foothold to the devil. If you are a thief, quit stealing. Instead, use your hands for good hard work, and then give generously to others in need. Don't use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them. And do not bring sorrow to God's Holy Spirit by the way you live. Remember, he has identified you as his own, guaranteeing that you will be saved on the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you. Live No Longer Like the World Ephesians 4:17-19 With the Lord's authority I say this: Live no longer as the Gentiles do, for they are hopelessly confused. Their minds are full of darkness; they wander far from the life God gives because they have closed their minds and hardened their hearts against him. They have no sense of shame. They live for lustful pleasure and eagerly practice every kind of impurity. 1 John 1:5-6 This is the message we heard from Jesus and now declare to you: God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all. So we are lying if we say we have fellowship with God but go on living in spiritual darkness; we are not practicing the truth. 1 John 2:15 Do not love this world nor the things it offers you for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. Live By Throwing Off the Old Nature Ephesians 4:20-22 But that isn't what you learned about Christ. Since you have heard about Jesus and have learned the truth that comes from him, throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. Colossians 3:5-6 So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don't be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world. Because of these sins, the anger of God is coming. Live By Seeking the Spirit of God Ephesians 4:23 Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Ephesians 4:30 And do not bring sorrow to God's Holy Spirit by the way you live. Remember, he has identified you as his own, guaranteeing that you will be saved on the day of redemption. Galatians 5:16 So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won't be doing what your sinful nature craves. Live By the New Nature Ephesians 4:24 Put on your new nature, created to be like God-truly righteous and holy. 2 Corinthians 5:17 This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person The old life is gone; a new life has begun! Colossians 3:10 Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him. Conclusion: Matthew 5:14 You are the light of the world-like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden.
“Delivering the Next Generation” Exodus 1:15-2:10 (NLT) 15 Then Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, gave this order to the Hebrew midwives, Shiphrah and Puah: 16 “When you help the Hebrew women as they give birth, watch as they deliver. If the baby is a boy, kill him; if it is a girl, let her live.” 17 But because the midwives feared God, they refused to obey the king's orders. They allowed the boys to live, too. 18 So the king of Egypt called for the midwives. “Why have you done this?” he demanded. “Why have you allowed the boys to live?” 19 “The Hebrew women are not like the Egyptian women,” the midwives replied. “They are more vigorous and have their babies so quickly that we cannot get there in time.” 20 So God was good to the midwives, and the Israelites continued to multiply, growing more and more powerful. 21 And because the midwives feared God, he gave them families of their own. 22 Then Pharaoh gave this order to all his people: “Throw every newborn Hebrew boy into the Nile River. But you may let the girls live.” 2:1 About this time, a man and woman from the tribe of Levi got married. 2 The woman became pregnant and gave birth to a son. She saw that he was a special baby and kept him hidden for three months. 3 But when she could no longer hide him, she got a basket made of papyrus reeds and waterproofed it with tar and pitch. She put the baby in the basket and laid it among the reeds along the bank of the Nile River. 4 The baby's sister then stood at a distance, watching to see what would happen to him. 5 Soon Pharaoh's daughter came down to bathe in the river, and her attendants walked along the riverbank. When the princess saw the basket among the reeds, she sent her maid to get it for her. 6 When the princess opened it, she saw the baby. The little boy was crying, and she felt sorry for him. “This must be one of the Hebrew children,” she said. 7 Then the baby's sister approached the princess. “Should I go and find one of the Hebrew women to nurse the baby for you?” she asked. 8 “Yes, do!” the princess replied. So the girl went and called the baby's mother. 9 “Take this baby and nurse him for me,” the princess told the baby's mother. “I will pay you for your help.” So the woman took her baby home and nursed him. 10 Later, when the boy was older, his mother brought him back to Pharaoh's daughter, who adopted him as her own son. The princess named him Moses, for she explained, “I lifted him out of the water.” God's call on each of us to deliver the next generation means we must: 1. Expose the darkness to the Light (1:17-20) “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” ---John 8:12 14 “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. 15 No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. ---Matthew 5:14-16 A. Make yourself available! God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve . . . ---1 Peter 4:10 B. Pray for God to show you! If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. ---James 1:5 C. Then do it! But don't just listen to God's word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. ---James 1:22 2. Surround our fears with Faith (1:22 - 2:3) Don't be afraid, for I am with you. Don't be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand. ---Isaiah 41:10 For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline. ---2 Timothy 1:7 Fear in the life of a believer: 1 - Fear causes us to reduce the size of God and elevate the size and opinion of man. 2 - Fear causes us to lead people in the wrong direction. 3 - Fear causes us to stay quiet when we should clearly speak up. 4 - Fear causes us to be passive about an issue that the Lord has clearly brought to our attention. 5 - Fear causes us to not engage the broken, the hurting, the misfits and the neglected because if we include them in our lives and actually invite them into our homes then it could get messy. 6 - Fear causes us to refuse to embrace change because we care way more about being comfortable than being conformed into the image of Christ. 7 - Fear causes us to control things and take matters into our own hands rather than trusting the Lord and trusting others. 8 - Fear causes us to conceal sin and shame in our lives when God's Word is so clear that we should ask others for help 3. Stand firm on grace, expecting God's blessings (2:4-10) “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.” ---1 Corinthians 2:9 This next generation needs: - Time - Truth - Trusted examples
Today's meditation is on Matthew 5:3-20 God blessed me when I was poor and realized my need for him. What happiness is mine, for he has given me the realm of heaven's kingdom here on earth. What delight comes to me when I wait upon the Lord. I have found what I longed for. God blessed me when I mourned, and he comforted me. What blessing comes to me when gentleness and humility live in me. For he has promised that I will inherit the whole earth and reign with him. God blesses and enriches me because I hunger and thirst for righteousness and in him, I am satisfied. God blesses me when I am merciful, and he has demonstrated great and tender mercy to me. God blesses me with bliss because my heart is pure and my eyes are opened to see more and more of him. God blesses me with joy because I am a peacemaker. He calls me his true child. God blesses me when I am persecuted for doing right. I experience the realm of heaven's kingdom here on earth. When people mock me, persecute me, lie about me and say all sorts of evil things against me because I love and follow Christ, I am blessed. Instead of being upset, I'm filled with a joy and peace that no one can take away from me. And I know that I have a great reward waiting for me in heaven. Even the ancient prophets were rejected. I am the salt of the earth. I will not lose my flavor, lest I be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless. My life lights up the world — like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. I will not hide my light, but let it shine brightly before others, so that my good deeds will shine as light upon them, and then they will give their praise to Father God in heaven. Jesus did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets. He came to fulfill them and perfect what was written. Every prophecy of the Messiah was accomplished through his birth, life, death and resurrection. Not the smallest detail of God's law has disappeared, but Jesus achieved the purpose of each one through his life and his sacrifice on the cross. I will not ignore God's Word, but will obey it and teach others to do the same. And God will call me great in the Kingdom of Heaven. I cannot enter the Kingdom of Heaven through my works or through my own righteousness, but praise God I don't have to. I have the righteousness of Christ in him. Until next time, be blessed and be a blessing. ----- Music from Uppbeat (free for Creators!): https://uppbeat.io/t/sanchii/piercing-darkness License code: DI8BNZDDBZPHFFRD

“You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless. “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Welcome to Day 1811 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom Live Outside Yourself – Daily Wisdom Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1811 of our Trek, and it's time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today's trek. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. So we are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. Thanks for coming along on today's trek as we increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%2016%3A16&version=NLT (Proverbs 16:16) How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver! If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Albert Einstein, and it is: A person starts to live when he can live outside themself. Live Outside Yourself Since we are created as imagers of God, our very nature is to image to others what God has become within our lives. This can only happen when we live outside of ourself, and our little cloistered world and start impacting the lives of others for God's Kingdom. We were not created to isolate ourselves from the world, but to be salt and light by proclaiming Jesus Christ to a world that is dying of thirst and stumbling around in the darkness. Once we realize that our vocation is to build God's kingdom here on earth, our focus will shift from ourselves to everyone God permits to cross our life path. We need to climb out of our self-made prison, which only focuses inward, and break free to provide freedom to others. Let us be salt and light every day. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew+5%3A13-16&version=NLT (Matthew 5:13-16) You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless. “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. Let's Be The Light Ephesians 5:1-16 Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are His dear children. Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God. Let there be no sexual immorality, impurity, or greed among you. Such sins, have no place among God's people. Obscene stories, foolish talk, and coarse jokes - these are not for you. Instead, let there be thankfulness to God. You can be sure that no immoral, impure or greedy person will inherit the Kingdom of Christ and of God. For a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world. Don't be fooled by those who try to excuse these sins, for the anger of God will fall on all who disobey Him. Don't participate in the things these people do. For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light! For this light within you produces only what is good and right and true. Carefully determine what pleases the Lord. Take no part in the worthless deeds of evil and darkness; instead, expose them. It is shameful even to talk about the things that ungodly people do in secret. But their evil intentions will be exposed when the light shines on them, for the light makes everything visible. This is why it is said, "Awake, O sleeper, rise up fom the dead, and Christ will give you light." So be careful how you live. Don't live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Introduction: Luke 1:78-79 Because of God's tender mercy, the morning light from heaven is about to break upon us, to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, and to guide us to the path of peace. John 8:22 Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, "I am the light of the world. If you follow Me, you won't have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life." Matthew 5:14 You are the light of the world - like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. People that Imitate God Ephesians 5:1 Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are His dear children. People of Love Ephesians 5:2 Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God. John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life. Romans 12:9-10 Don't just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good. Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other. 1 Corinthians 13:4-5 Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. People of Moral Lifestyle Ephesians 5:3-7 Let there be no sexual immorallity, impurity, or greed among you. Such sins have no place among God's people. Obscene stories, foolish talk, and coarse jokes - these are not for you. Instead, let there be thankfulness to God. You can be sure that no imoral, impure, or greedy person will inherit the Kingdom of Christ and of God. For a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world. Don't be fooled by those who try to excuse these sins, for the anger of God will fall on all who disobey Him. Don't participate in the things these people do. People That Do Good Ephesians 5:8-9 For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light! For this light within you produces only what is good and right and true. Matthew 5:16 In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavely Father. Philippians 2:14-15 Do everything without complaining and arguing, so that no one can criticize you. Live clean, innocent lives as children of God, shining like bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people. People That Please God Ephesians 5:10 Carefully determine what pleases the Lord. Ronans 12:1-2 And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all He has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice - the kind He will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship Him. Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God's will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. Conclusion: Matthew 5:14 You are the light of the world - like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden.

Dear God I'm Grateful For Salt & Light. You are the salt of the earth..“Salt is good for seasoning. But if it loses its flavor, how do you make it salty again? You must have the qualities of salt among yourselves and live in peace with each other.”” - Mark 9:50 NLT.You are the light of the world.“Like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. 18 to 29-year-olds that grew up as Christians 22% are Prodigals 30% are Nomads 38% are Habitual Churchgoers 10% are Resilient Disciples 5 PRACTICES OF RESILIENT DISCIPLES 1. THEY EXPERIENCE INTIMACY WITH JESUS WHICH FORMS A RESILIENT IDENTITY 2. DEVELOP MUSCLES OF CULTURAL DISCERNMENT IN A COMPLEX AND ANXIOUS CULTURE 3. THEY BUILD MEANINGFUL, INTERGENERATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS 4. THEY ARE MOTIVATED AND TRAINED FOR VOCATIONAL DISCIPLESHIP But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God's very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light. “Once you had no identity as a people; now you are God's people. Once you received no mercy; now you have received God's mercy.” 1 Peter 2:9-10 NLT 'A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other. ' 1 Corinthians 12:7 NLT “A SPIRITUAL GIFT IS A SPECIAL SUPERNATURAL ABILITY THAT GOD GIVES TO EACH OF HIS CHILDREN SO THAT TOGETHER WE CAN ADVANCE HIS PURPOSES IN THIS WORLD.” -PASTOR CHRIS HODGES “Our souls are not hungry for fame, comfort, wealth, or power. Those rewards create almost as many problems as they solve. Our souls are hungry for meaning, for the sense that we have figured out how to live so that our lives matter, so that the world will be at least a little bit different for our having passed through it.” Rabbi Harold Kushner Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20 NLT 'In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. Romans 12:6 NLT FOUR LIVED TRUTHS OF A VOCATIONAL DISCIPLE 1. I CLEARLY SEE HOW THE WORK I AM DOING SERVES GOD 2. I FIND PURPOSE AND MEANING IN THE WORK I DO 3. AS A CHRISTIAN, IS IMPORTANT TO MOLD THE CULTURE OF MY WORKPLACE 4. I AM DRIVEN TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward. Colossians 3:23-24 NLT 1. WE HAVE TO DISCOVER OUR WHY 'You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother's womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.' Psalms 139:13-14 NLT “Humans were made to have meaning. Without purpose, life is meaningless. A meaningless life is a life without hope or significance. This is a profound statement and one that everyone should spend time pondering. God gives purpose. Purpose gives meaning. Meaning gives hope and significance. There is awesome truth contained within that logic.” Rick Warren QUESTION 1: WHAT DO YOU CRY ABOUT? QUESTION 2: WHAT DO YOU SING ABOUT? “The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.” Ralph Waldo Emerson QUESTION 3: WHAT DO YOU DREAM ABOUT? 2. WE UNDERSTAND SUSTAINABLE INFLUENCE IS BASED ON CHARACTER NOT TALENT You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. Matthew 5:14,16 NLT MARK 1: A WISE PERSON TRUSTS IN GOD MARK 2: A WISE PERSON WALKS IN HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS MARK 3: A WISE PERSON SEEKS GOOD COUNSEL MARK 4: A WISE PERSON USES WORDS WISELY MARK 5: A WISE PERSON EXERCISES SELF-CONTROL MARK 6: A WISE PERSON MANAGES THEIR RESOURCES MARK 7: A WISE PERSON LIVES IN PEACE 3. WE UNDERSTAND WE ARE STRONGER TOGETHER He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love. Ephesians 4:16 4. WE TAKE ADVANTAGE OF WHERE WE ARE AT AND WE GROW INTO WHERE DESIRE TO BE.
“Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God's love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God's people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God. Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! Amen.” -Ephesians 3:17-21 NLT KEEP IT SIMPLE: Do What Jesus Said And Do What Jesus Did. What Jesus said- “Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?” Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.' The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.” -Matthew 22:36-40 NLT What Jesus did- “Jesus saw the huge crowd as he stepped from the boat, and he had compassion on them and healed their sick.” -Matthew 14:14 NLT “Then Jesus called his disciples and told them, ‘I feel sorry for these people. They have been here with me for three days, and they have nothing left to eat. I don't want to send them away hungry, or they will faint along the way.'” -Matthew 15:32 NLT Commitment To God Is Commitment To People. Obedience Is How You Build Your Life. “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. 25 Though the rain comes torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won't collapse because it is built on bedrock. 26 But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn't obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. 27 When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.” -Matthew 7:24-27 NLT Be More Committed To Jesus Than Consumed By Circumstances. Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.” -Philippians 4:11-13 NLT Make The World Better. Don't Let The World Break You. “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.” -Matthew 5:14-16 NLT
Psalm 19:7-14; Deuteronomy 27:1-10; Matthew 5:13-20 Psalm 19:7-14 New Living Translation 7 The instructions of the Lord are perfect, reviving the soul. The decrees of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple. 8 The commandments of the Lord are right, bringing joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are clear, giving insight for living. 9 Reverence for the Lord is pure, lasting forever. The laws of the Lord are true; each one is fair. 10 They are more desirable than gold, even the finest gold. They are sweeter than honey, even honey dripping from the comb. 11 They are a warning to your servant, a great reward for those who obey them. 12 How can I know all the sins lurking in my heart? Cleanse me from these hidden faults. 13 Keep your servant from deliberate sins! Don't let them control me. Then I will be free of guilt and innocent of great sin. 14 May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer. Read full chapter Deuteronomy 27:1-10 New Living Translation The Altar on Mount Ebal 27 Then Moses and the leaders of Israel gave this charge to the people: “Obey all these commands that I am giving you today. 2 When you cross the Jordan River and enter the land the Lord your God is giving you, set up some large stones and coat them with plaster. 3 Write this whole body of instruction on them when you cross the river to enter the land the Lord your God is giving you—a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the Lord, the God of your ancestors, promised you. 4 When you cross the Jordan, set up these stones at Mount Ebal and coat them with plaster, as I am commanding you today. 5 “Then build an altar there to the Lord your God, using natural, uncut stones. You must not shape the stones with an iron tool. 6 Build the altar of uncut stones, and use it to offer burnt offerings to the Lord your God. 7 Also sacrifice peace offerings on it, and celebrate by feasting there before the Lord your God. 8 You must clearly write all these instructions on the stones coated with plaster.” 9 Then Moses and the Levitical priests addressed all Israel as follows: “O Israel, be quiet and listen! Today you have become the people of the Lord your God. 10 So you must obey the Lord your God by keeping all these commands and decrees that I am giving you today.” Read full chapter Matthew 5:13-20 New Living Translation Teaching about Salt and Light 13 “You are the salt of the earth. Teaching about the Law 17 “Don't misunderstand why I have come.
Welcome to Day 1715 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomThe Last Word – Daily WisdomWelcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1715 of our Trek, and it's time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today's trek. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. We are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Barbara Johnson, and it is: A good way to have the last word is to apologize. The Last Word I think most of us like to have the last word in a conversation. What that usually means is that we want to be right at the expense of the other person. Suppose you feel the need to be correct and prove another person as wrong means that you both have lost. We don't have to agree on most topics to carry on a meaningful and productive conversation. We live in such a contentious environment today, especially online, where a whole segment of people call trolls whose purpose is to argue and disagree with others who may not share their opinion. There are very few issues worth arguing about in life and even fewer people whose minds have been changed because of an argument. It usually just entrenches those individuals to be adamant with their opinion. Instead, we should love others and be concerned about their well-being. We do not have to win the argument or try and prove we are right. As long as we are right with God, and at peace that our thoughts and opinions align with God's precepts found in His Word, then that is all we need. If you must have the last word, let it apologize for when we are offensive or have spoken inappropriately. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Colossians+4%3A5-6&version=NLT (Colossians 4:5-6) Live wisely among those who are not believers, and make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be gracious and attractive so that you will have the right response for everyone. In Greek, the words gracious and attractive mean ‘and seasoned with salt,' which reminds me of https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew+5%3A13-16&version=NLT (Matthew 5:13-16) “You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? When Jesus was crucified, Pontius Pilate ordered that a notice be nailed above His head: ‘Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews.' The message was translated into the three languages of the day, Aramaic, Latin and Greek. From the Cross, by command of a Roman Governor, the good news was preached to all. 2 Kings 5v1-3 The king of Syria had great admiration for Naaman, the commander of his army, because through him the Lord had given Syria great victories. But though Naaman was a mighty warrior, he suffered from leprosy. At this time Syrian raiders had invaded the land of Israel, and among their captives was a young girl who had been given to Naaman's wife as a maid. One day the girl said to her mistress [Naaman's wife], “I wish my master would go to see the prophet in Samaria. He would heal him of his leprosy.” 2 Kings 5v9-14 So Naaman went with his horses and chariots and waited at the door of Elisha's house. But Elisha sent a messenger out to him with this message: “Go and wash yourself seven times in the Jordan River. Then your skin will be restored, and you will be healed of your leprosy.” But Naaman became angry and walked away. “I thought he would certainly come out to meet me!” he said. “I expected him to wave his hand over the leprosy and call on the name of the Lord his God and heal me! Aren't the rivers of Damascus, the Abana and the Pharpar, better than any of the rivers of Israel? Why shouldn't I wash in them and be healed?” So Naaman turned and went away in a rage. But his officers tried to reason with him and said, “Sir, if the prophet had told you to do something very difficult, wouldn't you have done it? So you should certainly obey him when he says simply, ‘Go and wash and be cured!'” So Naaman went down to the Jordan River and dipped himself seven times, as the man of God had instructed him. And his skin became as healthy as the skin of a young child, and he was healed! The message of God's love are is for everyone … even Naaman (no-one is beyond it) The mission of God's love is for everyone … even the Servant Girl (no-one is beneath it) Four realizations of the person God uses. I AM THE RIGHT PERSON The young servant girl doesn't seem like the most likely candidate to make a difference. She is: Young – in a culture that esteems age Female – in a patriarchal culture that viewed women as second class Captive – in a culture that degraded the slaves But God used her to bring hope and help to others. Matthew 5v14 You are the light of the world - like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. I'm the right person, in the RIGHT PLACE… The girl could have said: “How could anything good happen here?” If there's one thing God specializes in, it's placement. For example, the earth and the solar system (the anthropic principle) Psalm 37v23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord. Job 23v10 But he knows the way that I take … I'm the right person, in the right place, at the RIGHT TIME… At the very moment that Naaman needs a cure, the servant girl, who happens to know of a Prophet who can heal Naaman, that servant girl happens to be in earshot of the conversation. Acts 17v26 From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. Psalm 31v5 My times are in your hands … Esther 4v14 Who knows if perhaps you were made queen for such a time as this?" I'm the right person, in the right place, at the right time, with the RIGHT ANSWER. Everyone finds their answer in Jesus. To the condemned – Jesus is forgiveness. To the addict, He's our deliverer To those enslaved, He's our Redeemer To the abandoned, Jesus is our adoption. To the deceived, Jesus is truth. To the lost, Jesus is the way. To those left high and dry, He is faithful and true To the dead, Jesus is the Resurrection and the life. To the sick, Jesus is healing. To the defeated, He's the Victorious One To those in a dark space, He's the light of the world To the lonely, He's a friend. To those in fear, He's the Lion of the Tribe of Judah To those who feel far from God – He's the mediator To the weak, he's the mighty one To the hopeless, He's our hope To the hungry, He's the bread of life To those who are shaken, He's the cornerstone To the tormented, He's our peace. To the confused He's our Wonderful counselor To the guilty, He is Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world You don't need to be Jesus … you just help introduce people to Jesus.

Luke chapter 14 34 “Salt is good for seasoning. But if it loses its flavor, how do you make it salty again? 35 Flavorless salt is good neither for the soil nor for the manure pile. It is thrown away. Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand!” Mark chapter 9 49 “For everyone will be tested with fire. 50 Salt is good for seasoning. You must have the qualities of salt among yourselves and live in peace with each other.” Colossians chapter 4 5 Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time. 6 Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.

READ: Matthew 5.14-16 NLT “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. Surely that was his role. But Jesus was recognising that the only way in which people would see his light would be if his followers reflected his light into their communities. It is, therefore, our responsibility to find the most prominent place to put our light so that as many people as possible can see Jesus. It is good that Christians should spend time together. Jesus says that it happens as people see our good deeds. We should never be looking for people's praise and recognition for our actions, but as we get on with being Christians in daily life sharing compassion and practical help, the light shines. I have seen this happening time and again through Christians getting stuck into the work of food banks, street pastoring, homeless projects and neighbourhood befriending schemes to name but a few. It is important that our actions are complemented by talking about Jesus, but it is so often the actions that show that our message has credibility. We all have very different opportunities to shine the light of Christ. Your unique network of relationships will enable you to bring the light to places which may not be reached by anyone else. So, however minor and insignificant your good deeds might seem to be, keep them up and thank God that his light will shine through you. QUESTIONS: How has God enabled you to help others? PRAYER: Dear Lord, help me to live in such a way that others will see your light. Amen

Did you know that? Divine Purpose within you knows that, but do you? That's the question. Don't you ever wonder what the full realization and manifestation of being the creation and offspring of God would be and feel like? You should. It's one thing knowing it's possible, it's another thing living and walking in it. Will you take the time to find out and discover what Divine Purpose knows about you that you don't know about yourself? Or, are you going to hide forever, under a bushel, and not be the light that shines? --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/activategodspurpose/message
Welcome to Day 1642 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomLet Your Life Shine – Daily WisdomWelcome to Wisdom-Trek. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. We are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. We are on Day 1642 of our Trek, and it's time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today's trek. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from James Keller, and it is: A candle loses nothing of its light by lighting another candle. Let Your Light Shine Based on the philosophy of many individuals, you would think that when attempting to light a candle from another candle, it would completely extinguish the flame of the first candle. Nothing is farther from the truth. When a flame is passed from one to another, it multiplies the overall amount of light exponentially. Compare the light emitted on a birthday cake of a one-year-old to someone who is one hundred. The first is a tiny flicker, and the latter is a bonfire. The same can be said of our lives. When we allow our inner spirit to touch the lives of others, we pass on a flame that continues to grow the more often it is given. When we make it a habit of passing our flame onto many more people, we exponentially enrich many lives. Let's think about this from a different angle. When we allow others to share their sorrow and grief with us, it lessens that sorrow as we divide it among us. But, if we share our blessings with others, it multiplies those blessings, and they become even more remarkable. So never feel that your flame will be diminished by sharing it with others, instead realize that a candle loses nothing by lighting another candle. The fact is, it will exponentially multiply the more we share. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew+5%3A14-16&version=NLT (Matthew 5:14-16) “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. People think open doors are for others but not for them Matthew 5:14–15 “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. 15 No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. People get so consumed with their life 3. People get so focused on earth they lose sight of heaven Philippians 1:21–24 For to me, living means living for Christ, and dying is even better. 22 But if I live, I can do more fruitful work for Christ. So I really don’t know which is better. 23 I’m torn between two desires: I long to go and be with Christ, which would be far better for me. 24 But for your sakes, it is better that I continue to live. Clearly build relationships and maximize opportunities Colossians 4:5 Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity (NIV) 3. Clearly share your story Colossians 4:6 Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone. It was about four o’clock in the afternoon when they went with him to the place where he was staying, and they remained with him the rest of the day. (NLT) John 4:29 “Come and see a man who told me everything I ever did! Could he possibly be the Messiah?” (NLT) John 4:39–42 Many Samaritans from the village believed in Jesus because the woman had said, “He told me everything I ever did!” 40 When they came out to see him, they begged him to stay in their village. So he stayed for two days, 41 long enough for many more to hear his message and believe. 42 Then they said to the woman, “Now we believe, not just because of what you told us, but because we have heard him ourselves. Now we know that he is indeed the Savior of the world.” (NLT)

Welcome to Day 1570 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomLive Every Day – Daily WisdomWelcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. Our mission is to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. Thanks for coming along on our journey to increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy. Today is Day 1570 of our Trek, and it's time for another snippet of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today's trek. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Vaughan Garwood, and it is: The only way to live your last day as you would want to, is to live like that all the time. Live Every Day If you woke up this morning were told that it would be your last day on earth, how would that change how you live that day? That may be a bit extreme of a question, but I would say that we would change whatever plans we had for that day and focus on what is most important. Let's stretch the time out a bit. Say you only have one month to live, or even one year, and there was nothing you could do to change that fact. Would you live differently? Most of us would certainly make sure we have our affairs in order and then focus on creating a positive impact on our world. Think about it. None of us are guaranteed another day or even an hour. We should start living each day as if our time is finite, which it is. We should be living a legacy each day that would impact others for all eternity because our lives significantly impact our world. You are special, valuable, and unique in the sight of God and humankind. That knowledge should not cause us to be puffed up, but to be grateful to God with all humility that we are created as His image-bearer. Our lives are a shining light on a hill during the darkest of night. We are a beacon to those who are in need. So each day when you rise, after thanking God for another day of life, live each day as if it were your last, and your impact on others will last through eternity. Because your life matters, both to God, and to all the world. Live like it does because you are salt to a flavorless world, and a shining light in the darkest nights. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew%205%3A13%2D15&version=NLT (Matthew 5:13-15) “You are the salt of the earth. I don't think you can really know Jesus and His love and not find a way to make Him known! If I say, “I will not mention him, or speak any more in his name,” there is in my heart as it were a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I am weary with holding it in, indeed I cannot. We are Sacrificial, not Selfish Acts 2:44–47 (NLT) 44 And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had. 45 They sold their property and possessions and shared the money with those in need. 46 They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord's Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity—47 all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved. We shine the Light; we don't Hide it! Matthew 5:14–16 (NLT) 14 “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. 15 No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. 2 Corinthians 4:7–9 (NLT) 7 We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves. 8 We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair. 9 We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed. "You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden."Matthew 5:14 In it's original Greek, the 'you' in this verse is plural, not singular. While you, as a Christian are a light, it is the church as a whole that is the 'city on the hill.' As a church- made of people and not of physical stones- we shine the light of Christ to the world. His light is revealed through the way that we love each other. it is through the relationships that we build within the church, and the turning of our hearts towards each other in complete oneness and unity, that the world will see and believe in Jesus. Christianity is a relationship, not an institution, and when that is shown in the unity of the body of christ, the 'city' cannot be hidden. Do you desire the unity of the Body of Christ? If not, have you asked God to show you how to love those you are called to love?
Week 5 – Jeff Maness – September 7, 2018 A convincing faith is not found in what I say, a convincing faith is found in what I show. No, we do not have a works based salvation, but make no mistake about it, we should have salvation based works that are shown to the world around us. So, what kind of faith should we show to the world? Fences: Faith Big Idea: A convincing faith is not found in what I say, a convincing faith is found in what I show. Ephesians 2:8-9 8 God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can't take credit for this; it is a gift from God. 9 Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. Ephesians 2:10 10 For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. 1 Corinthians 4:20 20 For the Kingdom of God (faith) is not just a lot of talk; it is living by God's power. Big Question: What kind of faith do I need to show? Main Scripture: 1 Peter 2:9-12 1 Peter 2:9-11 9 But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God's very own possession. As a result you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light. 10 “Once you had no identity as a people; now you are God's people. Once you received no mercy; now you have received God's mercy.” 11 Dear friends, I warn you as “temporary residents and foreigners” to keep away from worldly desires that wage war against your very souls. 1. I need to show a protected faith 1 Peter 2:12a 12 Be careful to live properly among your unbelieving neighbors. 2. I need to show a public faith 2 Matthew 5:14-16 14 “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. 15 No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see,… John 17:15-18 15 I'm not asking you to take them out of the world, but to keep them safe from the evil one. 16 They do not belong to this world any more than I do. 17 Make them holy by your truth; teach them your word, which is truth. 18 Just as you sent me into the world, I am sending them into the world. We've been rescued from the darkness and given the Light not merely to flee the darkness, but to guide our steps as we go back in to rescue others. — David Mathis, Desiring God Ministries 1 Peter 2:12b 12b Then (after living properly among your unbelieving neighbors) even if they accuse you of doing wrong, they will see your honorable behavior, and they will give honor to God when he judges the world. Matthew 5:16 16 In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.
Matthew 5: 13-16 (NLT)“You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavour? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless.“You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house.
Message Title: “A Church in The Fight” To lead people into a NEW LIFE of Freedom in Jesus “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor.” Luke 4:18-19 (NIV) “He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor.” Luke 4:18-19 (NIV) …I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. Matthew 16:18 (KJV) The Church is the only organization that exists for it's non-members. A few days later, when Jesus again entered Capernaum, the people heard that he had come home. They gathered in such large numbers that there was no room left, not even outside the door, and he preached the word to them. Mark 2:1-12 (NIV) Some men came, bringing to him a paralyzed man, carried by four of them. Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus by digging through it and then lowered the mat the man was lying on. Mark 2:1-12 (NIV) When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, “Son, your sins are forgiven.” Now some teachers of the law were sitting there, thinking to themselves, “Why does this fellow talk like that? He's blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?” Mark 2:1-12 (NIV) Immediately Jesus knew in his spirit that this was what they were thinking in their hearts, and he said to them, “Why are you thinking these things? Mark 2:1-12 (NIV) Which is easier: to say to this paralyzed man, ‘Your sins are forgiven,' or to say, ‘Get up, take your mat and walk'? But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So he said to the man, “I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.” Mark 2:1-12 (NIV) He got up, took his mat and walked out in full view of them all. This amazed everyone and they praised God, saying, “We have never seen anything like this!” Mark 2:1-12 (NIV) A Church in the FIGHT… Is focused on getting people to JESUS. We keep Jesus the main thing. …When I came to you, I did not come with eloquence or human wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God. Corinthians 2:1-2 (NIV) For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. 1 Corinthians 2:1-2 (NIV) A Church in the FIGHT… is committed to removing the OBSTACLES. And so my judgment is that we should not make it difficult for the Gentiles who are turning to God. Acts 15:19 (NLT) Too many people aren't being reached, because too many Christians are sacrificing their potential effectiveness on the altar of tradition. A Church in the FIGHT… moves with URGENCY. Tax collectors and other notorious sinners often came to listen to Jesus teach. This made the Pharisees and teachers of religious law complain that he was associating with such sinful people—even eating with them! Luke 15:1-7 (NLT) So Jesus told them this story: “If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them gets lost, what will he do? Won't he leave the ninety-nine others in the wilderness and go to search for the one that is lost until he finds it?” Luke 15:1-7 (NLT) “And when he has found it, he will joyfully carry it home on his shoulders. When he arrives, he will call together his friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me because I have found my lost sheep.'” Luke 15:1-7 (NLT) “In the same way, there is more joy in heaven over one lost sinner who repents and returns to God than over ninety-nine others who are righteous and haven't strayed away!” Luke 15:1-7 (NLT) You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. Matthew 5:14-16 (NLT) No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. Matthew 5:14-16 (NLT) In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. Matthew 5:14-16 (NLT) “You have no idea what hangs in the balance of your decision to embrace the burden God has put on your heart.” – Andy Stanley
Tension: sense of conflict, or a pulling force The Tension Between CHURCH and CULTURE Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Matthew 28:18-20 (NLT) Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Matthew 28:18-20 (NLT) Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20 (NLT) Jesus doesn't just offer eternal life… He offers eternal purpose. …upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it. Matthew 16:18 (NLT) The local church is the hope of the world. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2 (NIV) When we get comfortable in our faith, we begin to see the great commission not as a rescue mission… but a correction mission. Don't team up with those who are unbelievers. How can righteousness be a partner with wickedness? How can light live with darkness? 2 Corinthians 6:14-18 (NLT) What harmony can there be between Christ and the devil? How can a believer be a partner with an unbeliever? And what union can there be between God's temple and idols? 2 Corinthians 6:14-18 (NLT) For we are the temple of the living God. As God said: “I will live in them and walk among them. I will be their God, and they will be my people. 2 Corinthians 6:14-18 (NLT) Therefore, come out from among unbelievers, and separate yourselves from them, says the Lord. 2 Corinthians 6:14-18 (NLT) Don't touch their filthy things, and I will welcome you. And I will be your Father, and you will be my sons and daughters says the Lord Almighty.” 2 Corinthians 6:14-18 (NLT) This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says to all those I carried into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon: “Build houses and settle down; plant gardens and eat what they produce. Jeremiah 29:4-14 (NIV) Marry and have sons and daughters; find wives for your sons and give your daughters in marriage, so that they too may have sons and daughters. Increase in number there; do not decrease. Jeremiah 29:4-14 (NIV) Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.” Jeremiah 29:4-14 (NIV) Yes, this is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: “Do not let the prophets and diviners among you deceive you. Do not listen to the dreams you encourage them to have. They are prophesying lies to you in my name. I have not sent them,” declares the Lord. Jeremiah 29:4-14 (NIV) This is what the Lord says: “When seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will come to you and fulfill my good promise to bring you back to this place. Jeremiah 29:4-14 (NIV) For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:4-14 (NIV) Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back from captivity… Jeremiah 29:4-14 (NIV) Keep Jesus the Main Thing …Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Matthew 6:10 (NIV) We have to be willing to sacrifice preferences in the name of effectiveness. The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, Isaiah 61:1-4 (NIV) to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor and the day of vengeance of our God, Isaiah 61:1-4 (NIV) to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion—to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. Isaiah 61:1-4 (NIV) They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor. Isaiah 61:1-4 (NIV) They will rebuild the ancient ruins and restore the places long devastated; they will renew the ruined cities that have been devastated for generations. Isaiah 61:1-4 (NIV) Fight the right battles A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God's armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. Ephesians 6:10-12 (NLT) For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:10-12 (NLT) “There is no competition between lighthouses.” – Roy Stockstill When don't win when we win arguments… we win when people see Jesus. Pastor Shane, our lead pastor is out of town… (SO COME BACK NEXT WEEK) But it's my privilege to share with you this morning as we close out our series “In Case of Fire.” We as humans (mostly men) have a borderline obsession with fire… we love it, but it can lead us to do some crazy things… Story: “Trashcan Fire” Part of my job… is to pastor teenagers, but sometimes I'm not the greatest example. Transition: Fire is very unpredictable thing… and if you aren't careful, it can get out of control. The past few weeks we have learned how to survive the “fires' in our life… the moments and circumstances that leave us hopeless… looking for a way out! (Marriage / Finances) Today… we are going to look at this from a different angle. Fire can be a good thing, an inviting thing… a powerful thing. In fact all through the bible you see FIRE used to describe God's presence! (The wilderness, Elijah and Mt. Carmel, Acts 2 and the birth of the church…) “I'm baptizing you here in the river, turning your old life in for a kingdom life. The real action comes next: The main character in this drama—compared to him I'm a mere stagehand—will ignite the kingdom life within you, a fire within you, the Holy Spirit within you, changing you from the inside out. He's going to clean house—make a clean sweep of your lives. He'll place everything true in its proper place before God; everything false he'll put out with the trash to be burned.” Matthew 3:11-12 (MSG) When we say yes to a relationship with God… this is His goal for our lives. And he never stops! So our question today is this… “What do we do when there is a fire in our hearts?” “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. 15 No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. Matthew 5:14-16 (NLT) Vs.14 You are the LIGHT of the World = “Phos” FIRE LIGHT Vs. 15 No one LIGHTS a lamp = “Kaio” SET ON FIRE / Gives LIGHT to everyone = “Lampo” RADIATE Vs. 16 Light = Fire /Shine = Radiate “You are the FIRE of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. 15 No one STARTS A FIRE and then puts it under a basket. Instead, THE FIRE is placed on a stand, where it RADIATES to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your FIRE RADIATE out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. Matthew 5:14-16 Fire = God's presence alive in you… a spiritual fire that burns with hope, peace, joy, strength, love… When we give our lives to Jesus… we COME ALIVE on the inside. A spiritual fire starts to burn… so much so that it will start to affect the outside. (A change in countenance…) Transition: SO for the rest of our time we are going to look at FIRE as a good thing… the very presence of God burning in us. A FIRE that has the power to change us… but what do we do with this FIRE? Here are 3 things we have to do… when there is a FIRE in our hearts: 1. We feed it Like any fire that you want to keep burning… there are things that the fire inside of you needs to keep burning: · Bible – wood Prayer · Prayer – Lighter fluid · Surrender – Air (surrender of your will, struggles, addictions, sin, etc.) Do you see what we've got? An unshakable kingdom! And do you see how thankful we must be? Not only thankful, but brimming with worship, deeply reverent before God. For God is not an indifferent bystander. He's actively cleaning house, torching all that needs to burn, and he won't quit until it's all cleansed. God himself is Fire! Hebrew 12:28-29 (MSG) There will… be moments in our life where it feels like our fire is dying… but as long as you are breathing there is a spark ready to ignite a flame in your heart again! Perfection does not fuel the fire of God... Surrender does. 2. We share it One of the most comforting… relaxing… life-giving things for me is to sit around the fire with friends… we can sit for hours and just stare at it! (Josh / fires /blow torch) (camping… beans in the fire) But we can relate to this… fire is inviting!! It's warm… you want to be around it. But our tendency is… we let our own fears, failures, frustrations smother the FIRE of God in our lives! But if I say I'll never mention the Lord or speak in his name, his word burns in my heart like a fire. It's like a fire in my bones! I am worn out trying to hold it in! I can't do it! Jeremiah 20:9 (NLT) Bottom line is that the fire of God CANNOT be contained… you either let in burn or you smother it. In fact I'm convinced that EVEYRTHING we do in our lives is either sharing it… or smothering it. At work… at home… at school… in conflict… on facebook… 3. We spread it “Set yourself on fire… and the world will come to watch you burn.” This is what Jesus was saying in Matthew 5:14-16… "Here's another way to put it: You're here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We're going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don't think I'm going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I'm putting you on a light stand. Now that I've put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you'll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven. Matthew 5:14-16 (MSG) Jesus is saying, “BURN so people can see it… and when they see it they'll come to it!” What happens if the FIRE of God consumes us to the extent that a spiritual forest fire breaks out in this county? “Oh Ryan, you're just being idealistic.” I am?! Or is this what Jesus has called us to?! I don't believe we can truly understand this… until we see it happen to someone close to us. Big Idea: Close the Loop: Just like the trashcan… our lives are holding a fire that is meant to consume us. Challenge: What is your next step? Maybe you need to feed your fire… maybe you been smothering it and it's time to let it shine (specific moments)… or maybe it's time to spread that fire to someone who needs it. Or maybe life for you is cold and seems hopeless… you are dead on the inside and you need the fire of God to bring you to life. To change you. To consume you. Pray…
We should be compassionately motivated to introduce people to Jesus and the life we've found in Him.
