A recruiter, a manufacturing leader, and a technology leader all walk into a bar… and tackle the skills gap problem head-on over some beers! The skills gap has been a hot topic in manufacturing. So, in true Manufacturing Happy Hour style, we sit down with a beer and discuss. Recorded live from Founders Brewery, MI while on tour with SwipeGuide, we sit down with Ann Wyatt of Ann Wyatt Recruiting, Ryan Lillibridge, VP of Mission Design & Automation, and CEO and Founder of SwipeGuide, Willemijn Schneyder.First up, we talk about how the stigma of heading into the trades is thankfully on the decrease. We swap insights on how the idea of "hireability" is changing, and what companies can do to lower the barriers to entry. A common theme throughout is that manufacturing leaders need to be more flexible when it comes to hiring. Do all candidates need a Master's in mechanical engineering? Probably not. For the future of manufacturers, attitude and aptitude are the golden tickets. We rounded out the conversation talking about upskilling and reskilling your workforce. Part of the skills gap problem isn't just about attracting people to manufacturing. It's also about missing a trick with your existing workforce. Sometimes, you need to tap into their knowledge and interests and reskill them for an increasingly tech-heavy future. In this episode, find out:Ann, Ryan, and WIllemijn introduce themselves and their unique perspectives on addressing the skills gapHow the stigma around trade jobs has evolved How the term “hireability” has evolved in today's market from a recruiter's perspective What companies can do to lower the barriers to entry into manufacturing and why recruiters should look at attitude and aptitude, not just experience and formal educationAnn, Ryan, and Willemijn share which job requirements they think are outdated in today's market and the top skills that manufacturing recruiters should look for Why technology is not the solution but a catalyst to empower the workforceHow upskilling and reskilling existing staff could help to ease the burden of the skills gapWhy people are the most valuable asset of a business that leaders should invest more inEnjoying the show? Please leave us a review here. Even one sentence helps. It's feedback from Manufacturing All-Stars like you that keeps us going!Tweetable Quotes:“Technology can put a value to frontline knowledge.”“We do automation. We put automation systems into factories, but if they haven't spent time on their people, their manufacturing equipment does not run well because they haven't upskilled their team.”“We have to prioritize attitude and aptitude over ten plus years' experience.” Links & mentions:SwipeGuide, a hassle-free how-to platform for frontline training, made simpleMission Design & Automation, a leading intelligent automation integrator in MichiganAnn Wyatt Recruiting, specialist recruitment company for manufacturing companiesFounders Brewery, brewery in Grand Rapids, MI Make sure to visit http://manufacturinghappyhour.com for detailed show notes and a full list of resources mentioned in this episode. In episode 114, Tony & Eddie talk two new beers - one from Sly Fox and one from Founders. In this mini episode, there won't be a movie review. So we dig down deep into the brews. Sly Fox was a new one for the show (we think) but this coffee porter stood up to our test. The other beer, KBS from Founders, is this years release and just like in years past - you don't want to sleep on this one. If you're a fan of smokey, roasty malt, or sweet boozy stouts don't miss out on these reviews. There's also a lot of whiskey talk in this episode. We're also asking you all for whiskey recommendations as well. Bring it on! Check out this week's episode for more details and let us know if you've ever had these two brews.
Cowboy, Dougy Fresh, and Paulie Gee(e's are silent) are back one again to graciously cover this amazing two-day music festival and benefit. The event that started back in 2004 for one very special girl is now bringing families and friends from across America and beyond for a weekend of celebration and to bring awareness and more support for those affected by 4p-, also known as Wolf-Hirschhorn Syndrome (WHS), an extremely rare chromosome disorder. As always, the Pigs bring their own brand of silly, laid back fun to cover Kammy's Kause, without forgetting the heartfelt reason why they are there. Helping to co-host the event is the beautiful Sara Bishop and the Pigs' personal bodyguard, Griswold Stout. Tune in to Part One as they are joined by numerous band members and friends who come out each year to play music and give their time throughout the year to support Kammy and the 4p- Support Group. A big thanks for those who jumped on a mic to talk about why this event is so special to them as well as what's going on with their respective bands, Mr. Zach Garner, Chris Sarber and David Charles Bailey of Pinky and The Basterds, and Ben Jarvis of Audiodacity. The boys had a great time, once again, being part of the Kammy's Kause family and talking to friends and supporters and they give a shout out and request to their fans in Lebanon. Be sure to stay tuned for the release of Part Two when they are joined by more band members and the very busy, father and Kammy's Kause founder, Mr. Jared Hiner. In Ep #78, Tony & Eddie talk Pacific Rim: Uprising. What does it have? Big robots. Big aspirations. Big Boyega. Small Cailee. And...at least 5 minutes of Eddie mispronouncing the inter-dimensional alien's species name. There's a lot here to like. But there's a TON to hate too. Find out what the boys ultimately thought in this week's episode of the Cinemantics. Of course there's always two new beers to try too. We tried brews from Voodoo and from Founders and man-o-live there was some goodness there to talk about.

Episode 75 - The Inevitable Return Of The Great White North Canada, eh? A beautiful country, rich in history and culture, and richer still in maple syrup and smiles. Being from Michigan, we are certainly no strangers to the most genial of all US neighbors. Sure they are responsible for Nickelback and Three Days Grace, which in and of itself is worthy of a border wall, but they also gave us Tim Horton's, IMAX, and peanut butter, so we'll just call it good. One thing that probably doesn't come to mind when you think of Canada, however, is horror. The place is so beautiful, and the people are so friendly, it's hard to imagine anything terrible happening there, but we know better. This week we grabbed some of Canada's finest brews, Moosehead and Molson Ice, as well as some CBS (Canadian Breakfast Stout) from Founders Brewery here in Michigan, and discussed a couple movies that delve into the darker side of The Great White North. Albert Antonucci, owner of Greenwood Park, is also in the studio and talking about hosting Freaktoberfest at his bar and beer garden. Hear from Tim Traynor, the Brand Manager for Founders Brewery. Founders is launching its Breakfast Stout on September 21st, so make sure to try it when it becomes available! Tim also talks about beer and food pairings, as well as the Founders beers at Freaktoberfest. Finally, hear from Matt Polacheck, the man behind all of Shmaltz Brewing’s crazy designs. This episode has been brought to you by GreatBrewers.com. “We wanted to make it a party with a beer festival attached to it, rather than a beer festival with some entertainment in the background. Over the years, I think we’ve really honed in on what we’ve wanted to do, and it’s become a blast.” — Matt Polacheck on Beer Sessions Radio
