Many healthcare startups are launched each year and it isn't easy to get traction. When a company does thrive in this complex industry, you know it has a solid value proposition and Omada Health has just that. Omada Health began almost 12 years ago with a focus exclusively on pre-diabetes. They wanted to get ahead of the problem by helping individuals make lifestyle changes that would help keep them from becoming a diabetic. Omada health has since expanded into a platform that offers coaching for diabetes – including prevention, hypertension and MSK. Omada Health is a trusted platform for employers and health plans alike. With me is Sean Duffy, Co-founder and CEO of Omada Health and he will share how Omada Health has transformed into a healthcare platform and how they have had staying power in the business. How much time does the Biden administration have until Republicans revitalize their strength or even expand in the midterms? This is a question brewing among Democrats who wonder whether they should go bold with legislation, or tread lightly to protect the slim majority of Democrats in the House and Senate. In this episode and article, Paul Starr argues that Democrats must be bold in the battles they fight but careful about those they choose. Perhaps above all else, the party must prove that government can work for ordinary people while improving election reform so democracy survives. Starr is professor of sociology and public affairs at Princeton University and Stuart Professor of communications and public affairs at Princeton's School of Public and International Affairs. He also serves as founding co-editor of The American Prospect, a liberal magazine that he co-founded in 1990 with Robert Kuttner and Robert Reich. Starr's work addresses a wide range of questions in politics, public policy, and social theory.

Democrats are screwed and the president of the United States, according to former Vice President and 2020 presidential candidate, Joe Biden, has “fanned the flames of white supremacy.” And that's where we begin on The Halli Casser-Jayne Show this week when joining me at my table is Princeton University professor and author of ENTRENCHMENT, Paul Starr, and my partner in politics, veteran White House correspondent Matthew Cooper. The podcast is posted at Halli Casser-Jayne dot com and on all your favorite apps.Once again gun violence has stuck America. A white nationalist terror attack in El Paso, Texas and a mass shooting in Dayton, Ohio, bringing into focus yet again the epidemic of gun violence in America and putting the country's attention on the President's racism squarely in the cross-hairs. Who are we as a people? Is the blame only the Republicans or do the Democrats share some of the responsibility for the lack of enactment of commonsense gun legislation? What do we do about the NRA? What do we do about a president who fans the flame of white supremacy? Matt and I have a lot to say on this one, and the state of the Democratic Party's presidential race. Who is Halli's favorite candidate? You might be surprised! In the May 2019 issue of the “The Atlantic,”Princeton University Professor Paul Starr asked: "Is Trumpism a temporary aberration or a long-term phenomenon? Put another way: Will the changes brought about by Donald Trump and today's Republican party fade away, or will they become entrenched?" He explains ‘entrenchment' in his new book ENTRENCHMENT, WEALTH, POWER, AND THE CONSTITUTION OF DEMOCRATIC SOCIETIES, and to us all on this week's show. Be worried, the Democrats are screwed -- forever? Stay-tuned for Starr's predictions for the future of America.Democrats are screwed. Is Trump responsible for the mass shootings in El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio? Is entrenchment killing American democracy? Is there a Democrat who can save the Republic? Can Trump be defeated? Can the NRA? We tackle it all on The Halli Casser-Jayne Show, the podcast posted at Halli Casser-Jayne dot com and available on all your favorite apps.
Building a Movement for Deep Change. Confronting the power of concentrated wealth. Overcoming the new Jim Crow. Plus, how to defeat the NRA. The entrenchment of American wealth and political power. A faithful movement to end mass incarceration. Plus Bill Press with Igor Volsky founder and the Director of Guns Down America. Paul Starr In a new book, Paul Starr argues that much of our politics today is a struggle over the historic entrenchment of great wealth through political power. And if Donald Trump gets re-elected, this entrenchment will only deepen. Billy Honor With nearly 2.3 million prisoners behind bars, the United States is the incarceration capital of the world. Our next guest is part of a new interfaith movement that is calling for an end to what they describe as a moral injustice and one of the dominant expressions of systemic racism in our country today. Igor Volsky Can America end its love affair with guns? There’s more progress than you may think. Bill Press talks with Igor Volsky author of Guns Down: How to Defeat the NRA and Build a Safer Future with Fewer Guns Jim Hightower What is the “AI agenda,” who’s pushing it, and why?
Cellarmen's in Hazel Park, Michigan was the womb that birthed The TRUTH. Before becoming the best podcast covering the stories *they* don't want you to know, the T.R.U.T.H. was a monthly live meeting. It's a dream come true for Dickie as this week's episode is recorded in the home of Thomas's cousin, Beatles expert Paul Starr. Some dreams unfortunately turn into nightmares as Paul reveals more than just the truth behind the Fabfour! Paul Starr is definitely not the darkly brilliant comedian Samantha Rager. Sam is far too busy touring in support of her wonderful album Trigger Warning...which is available on all digital distribution sites. Go to SamRagerComedy.com to find out where she's performing. Thomas and Dickie again are not comedians Alex Bozinovic and Mike Bobbitt. The date of this release coincides with our final live show at Cellarmen's. Efforts at controlling the powers of concentrated wealth has been an ongoing problem within society. Some believe overcoming the issue involves looking back at the foundations of democratic societies. Paul Starr from Princeton University joins Sam Wang and Julian E. Zelizer to discuss about his new book, “Entrenchment: Wealth, Power and, the Constitution of Democratic Societies.” The book examines how societal changes in the foundations of contemporary politics are difficult to reverse and how the efforts against entrenchment can be found in the foundations of society to influence the future of America’s democracy. Starr is Stuart Professor of Communications and Public Affairs and professor of sociology and public affairs at Princeton’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs. He is co-founder and co-editor of The American Prospect magazine and received the Pulitzer Prize for General Nonfiction and the 1984 Bancroft Prize in American History. His other books include “The Social Transformation of American Medicine” and “The Creation of the Media” and more.

When your great grandfather invented the term “makeup” as an Oscar-winning makeup artist during Hollywood's golden age, you start a makeup line. That’s exactly what Davis and Dean Factor did when they started Smashbox Cosmetics in Los Angeles in 1996, having grown up around the legendary cosmetics empire, Max Factor. But it wasn’t a clear path for the Hollywood playboys (heli-skiing, anyone?). Davis took to photography and Dean studied business before they formed Smashbox studios in L.A., where everyone from Angelina Jolie to Jack Nicholson have struck poses. Just how did a happening photo studio lead to a makeup line though, best known for its famous Photo Finish Primer sold every 1.8 seconds around the world? (Hint: Madonna's makeup artist, the late Paul Starr, may have something to do with it.) Plus, listen in to hear who’s surprisingly the best in the business to work with, and who Davis had the unfortunate luck of plowing down head-on in the studio hallway. And, we get the low down on what Davis has up his sleeve next—a business venture that strays from the world of cosmetics... Over 20 years old, Smashbox is still a top seller in stores even as the Colour Pops, Anastasias and Urban Decays keep growing. (Fun fact! Max Factor was the first brand to sell makeup in drugstores, did ya know??) How do they keep the momentum going? We’ve got the insider insights, all on today’s Breaking Beauty. Chris Gondek interviews Paul Starr, professor of sociology at Princeton and author of the Pulitzer Prize-winning The Social Transformation of American Medicine. Starr's newest book, Remedy and Reaction: The Peculiar American Struggle over Health Care Reform is out now from Yale University Press; this interview covers the near century-long history and present health care challenges of American presidential administrations, including Roosevelt, Johnson, Nixon, Clinton, and Obama, as well as reform policies enacted by then-Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney.
Why is the U.S. the only western country that can't agree on healthcare? Sociologist Paul Starr, author of Remedy and Reaction: The Peculiar American Struggle Over Health Care Reform, explains our bitter war over healthcare through its history from the early 20th century--when the American Medical Association and other groups used xenophobia to defeat the first healthcare bills--up through President Obama's 2010 reforms.
Pulitzer and Bancroft prize-winning author Paul Starr, co-founder and editor of The American Prospect, explores why the American people are so bitterly divided on health care policy while other wealthy western democracies are not.

Wandering from town to town with just his horse, cart, and whatever wares have come his way, the peddler has pretty well settled into his routine—that is, until the night Lawrence finds a wolf goddess asleep in his cart. Taking the form of a fetching girl with wolf ears and a tail, Holo has wearied of tending to harvests in the countryside and strikes up a bargain with the merchant to lend him the cunning of “Holo the Wisewolf” to increase his profits in exchange for taking her along on his travels. What kind of businessman could turn down such an offer? Lawrence soon learns, though, that having an ancient goddess as a traveling companion can be a bit of a mixed blessing. Will this wolf girl turn out to be too wild to tame My Grade: B-
