Federal employees' use of telework, in the long term, could give agencies a unique opportunity to get rid of office space they no longer need, according to a recent study. The National Capital Planning Commission, in partnership with the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG), released a study in February looking at the federal workforce's use of telework and its impact on government office space. The study finds that federal telework will “likely accelerate the implementation of reducing the federal footprint,” but may also shake up the local economy of Washington, D.C. and the surrounding area.“Any changes in federal telework policy will have a significant impact on Washington, given that it has a large component of telework-eligible jobs,” the study states. In the tenth part of "The Slovak Snapshots" podcast, we'll traverse through a diverse landscape of news in Slovakia. From groundbreaking scientific achievements that will leave you in awe, to inspiring community initiatives that'll warm your heart, we've got it all covered. This podcast is purely about Slovakia in English. On Monday, November 13, Robert Fico issued a press release announcing the four news organizations are not welcome at the premises of the Government Office of the Slovak Republic adding that “We will review their access and work. Until then, they are uninvited guests.”In 1989, just eight days after the fall of the Berlin Wall, a student protest against communist rule was violently staged in Prague, the capital of Czechoslovakia. The crackdown on November 17th only strengthened the protest movement, and within days hundreds of thousands of people were in the streets, starting the Velvet Revolution, the beginning of the end of the communist regime in Czechoslovakia.Slovak skier Petra Vlhová won the opening slalom of the new World Cup season in a commanding manner. In Levi, Finland, she performed the fastest ride in both rounds and triumphed with a victory of 1.41 seconds ahead of the German Lena Dürr. The podcast used a short sample from youtube.com/SME and youtube.com/EUROSPORT."The Slovak Snapshots" podcast is written and recorded by Zorislav Poljak in cooperation with Ivan Hrušovský and Peter Hanák.

“Adapting industries to, and preparing them for, a warmer world will be essential for the future successful functioning of societies of all nations.” Said Dr Tim Fox, co author of the IMechE's latest report on Climate adaption. The report entitled 'Adapting Industry to Withstand Rising Temperatures and Future Heatwaves' was published in April 2023 and produced in conjunction with the IMechE's Process Division and a plethora of leading climate change and sustainability experts from across the globe. While many engineers work on technologies that will help mitigate the climate crisis itself, Authors Dr Fox and IMechE Policy advisor Dr Laura Kent believe that more should be done to prepare industry for future climate change-induced, heat-related impacts. Their work demonstrates how increases in ambient temperatures and more frequent, severe, prolonged heatwaves could have a devastating impact on industry and its workforce. They outline the urgent need for engineering-related standards and design codes to be based on expectations of future climate rather than past climate, adaptation solutions to be sustainable and result in net-zero greenhouse gas emissions, and strategies to be developed to make workplaces and work practices comfortable and safe. Helen spoke with Tim and Laura about the climate adaptation report and discussed with them their reasons for bringing together such an international team of experts to advise on its content, what adaption technologies engineers are developing and how, as a leading voice in policy, the IMechE could galvanising political change. Tim Fox is an internationally recognised expert in climate change mitigation and adaptation with specialist knowledge of clean energy, sustainable cooling, process engineering based industries and sustainable food system. He is a Chartered Engineer and Fellow of the IMechE andthe immediate past Chair of the Process Industries Division. Tim represents the IMechE on the UK Infrastructure Operators Adaptation Forum and is a member of the Adaptation to Climate Change Group of BSI Committee. Dr Laura Kent joined the Imeche in June 2022 as a Public Affairs and Policy Advisor. Prior to joining the IMechE, Laura held roles at the Government Office for Science and Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy working on policies and advice to support innovation in the UK. Before starting a career in policy, Laura was a scientist at the National Physical Laboratory. A decade ago, the eyes of the world watched as the ‘Euromaidan' protests – which centred around the subject of Ukrainian integration into the European Union (EU) – were followed by Russia's illegal annexation of Crimea in 2014. Putin's subsequent invasion of Ukraine in 2022 has led to the largest war on European soil since World War II. In this virtual keynote address, Olga Stefanishyna, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine, will assess the state of play on the ground in Ukraine, and share her valuable insights into the prospects for victory, integration with the EU, and ultimately, for a more peaceful Europe. The address was held live in the IIEA headquarters, with the Ambassador of Ukraine to Ireland, Larysa Gerasko, joining in person to make opening remarks. About the Speaker Olga Stefanishyna has been a Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine since June 2020. In this role, she is tasked with overseeing Ukrainian integration into the EU and NATO, as well as coordination of gender equality policies and the Green Deal. A professional lawyer, Deputy Prime Minister Stefanishyna started her career in the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, where she worked on the reforms that led to granting Ukraine the visa-free regime within the EU, and took part in negotiations on the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement. From 2017 to 2019, she served as a Director-General in the Government Office for Coordination of European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine, and in 2022, she led Ukraine's EU membership bid that resulted in granting EU candidate status to Ukraine. She is a member of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine and chairs Ukraine's Commission for Equal Rights for Women and Men. Her Excellency Ms Larysa Gerasko served in a wide range of positions for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, before being appointed Ambassador to Ireland in 2021. Safe Schools Summit, Register NOW!Sex Ed Is NOT CSENews AlertAccording to Woodall, "Modeling and observational learning behaviors, now called 'gender expression' are used falsely to justify gender instruction as age appropriate. Teaching Comprehensive Sexuality Education and Gender Identity in K-4th grade can lead to sexual abuse. Grooming steps by child molesters are identical to current K-12 classroom instruction, constituting pre-grooming. Molesters are enabled by access to more vulnerable children as an entire generation of children are pre-groomed by the public schools.""Long standing, child development research theory does NOT support teaching sex ed and gender identity to young children. Public schools rob parents and children from protective safety measures for identifying and preventing molestation," said Woodall. In addition, public schools follow the Seicus model empowering children to believe they have a right to sexual expression, and activity if there is consent. MORE info here. Sex Ed Is NOT CSEPublic schools have molestation issues. Both the U.S. Department of Education and the Government Office of Accountability published research findings to this end. 1 in 10 children will experience school employee sexual misconduct. By taking away innocence, the schools remove the child's intuition, the most protective tool for avoiding the grooming process. Public schools are implementing the "Molester's Manifesto," calling it Education!Woodall states, "I can assure you this information is academically sound, supported by research, and unbelievably disturbing when one considers the fact teachers themselves are a common perpetrator of child molestation." In conclusion, I felt confident that the Inspector of Taxes had good acceptable answers to all his questions and could find no reason to take the matter further. Indeed, I did not hear anything more from that Government Office. But you can read or listen to other unpleasant incidents where various folk have seen fit to “have a go “ at us in other ways over the years. The worst and longest-lasting is covered in the story “Litigation”.It all began in 1982 during the time I was a Parish Councillor at New Bolingbroke and Carrington and continued for over 20 years! The final one was when Barclays Bank tried to “grab” the Northcote property and close the Animal Sanctuary back in 2012.You can follow this later incident in two stories, “A Lesson in Faith in the 21st Century” and “Travel Nightmare, I am a Terrorist!”

Honorable Rainer Saks, former Secretary General of Estonia's Foreign Ministry (2015-2020), Chief of the Foreign Intelligence and Head of the President's Office joins America's Roundtable Radio co-hosts Natasha Srdoc and Joel Anand Samy for a conversation about the War in Europe as Putin's Russia invades Ukraine and how it will impact America and Europe. The program highlights the importance of advancing principled solutions and the significance of "peace through strength" policy. Brief excerpt from Estonian World: Rainer Saks, a former chief of the Estonian foreign intelligence and a former chief of staff of the Estonian foreign ministry, said the Russian leadership thinks the Western countries are weak and therefore Russia hopes it will end Ukraine's Western integration. “The way Russia operates towards Ukraine comes from the fact that it regards the Western reactions essentially non-existent,” Saks said on a radio programme called “Vikerhommik”. “Russia thinks it can act and it regards the Western countries as weak. And the question is not whether the Western states actually are weak, the question is how Russia sees them.” He said it was a paradox of a historical window that Russia's leadership has defined the current time window as the ending of Ukraine's integration towards the West. “And I'm not talking about stopping it, but finishing. Ending forever. That's why this is happening.” Saks also noted on the Estonian Public Broadcasting radio programme that if the Western countries impose sanctions on Russia, then the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, is prepared to strategically suffer through them. Brief bio: Mr. Rainer Saks served as the Estonian Secretary of State from 2015-2020. From 1999 to 2001, Saks worked as an adviser to the foreign minister. From 2001 through 2006 he served as the deputy coordination director at the coordination unit of the Government Office. From 2006 to 2011 Saks headed the Office of the President, while simultaneously heading the council of the International Center for Defense and Security (from 2007-2011). From 2011 Rainer Saks held the office of the Director General of the Information Board. Mr. Saks is a member of the Management Board at CybExer Technologies, a NATO-awarded Estonian cybersecurity company. https://ileaderssummit.org/services/americas-roundtable-radio/ https://ileaderssummit.org/ | https://jerusalemleaderssummit.com/ America's Roundtable on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/americas-roundtable/id1518878472 Twitter: @NatashaSrdoc @JoelAnandUSA @ileaderssummit America's Roundtable is co-hosted by Natasha Srdoc and Joel Anand Samy, co-founders of International Leaders Summit and the Jerusalem Leaders Summit. A focus on people is central to the future of mobility. Behavioural and social science can help us better design our built environment and its transport system around users, and allow technology to improve the lives of individuals and society. These are the words of Sir Patrick Vallance, the Government's Chief Scientific Advisor and now familiar with the public due to his role in supporting the UK Government to address the Covid-19 pandemic. He wrote this in 2018 for the Government Office for Science report: A time of unprecedented change in the transport system. We do indeed live in a time of unprecedented change, perhaps more so than ever, so it is a good time to explore the behaviour change for net zero mobility. This podcast features an interview with Professor Lorraine Whitmarsh a psychologist – who this year received an MBE in recognition of work she has led on behaviour change and public engagement towards more sustainable futures. Professor Lorraine Whitmarsh is Director of CAST and University of Bath environmental psychologist. In this episode, I speak with Kim Willis, the founder of Heroine's Journey. Kim is someone deeply cognizant of the power and potential of stories, and committed to leveraging their power to do good. After 10 years working at the highest levels of government as a communications lead in 10 Downing Street, the UN and the Government Office for Science, Kim left the civil service to become a journalist and blogger. She spent her 30s telling stories of reconciliation from post-conflict zones and writing in places like The Guardian and The Independent, as well as setting up her own communications agency dedicated to comms for social good. Now edging towards her 40s, Kim is growing a storytelling platform and community called Heroine's Journey, with a mission to create space for the untold stories of women. With a growing community of 1000s of women Kim wants to address the gender imbalance in our storytelling, and help more women take control of their story-making potential. She has also recently launched a new online magazine called HiLoMusing, a haphazard assemblage of words and ideas which seeks to document and make sense of the times in which we find ourselves. She is currently fascinated by Buddhism, the Truth Wars, and Seasonal Cycles. We talked about how the pandemic has changed Kim's perspective on her life, her work and the life of our global community. Kim tells us what prompted her to start Heroine's Journey, a women's storytelling community, and how stories can be a catalyst for change, healing and connection. Kim shares which woman's story had a particular influence in her own life, and she explains why it is that stories can fuel a change of perspective or inspire us to take action and shift the world for the better. Find out how we can stay hopeful given our current challenges and crisis. And hear the lesson that Kim learned from Kofi Annan, when she worked at the UN. I'm sure Kim will inspire you with her insights from her journey as a changemaker. And if you like what you hear, then send Kim a *heart-filled* thanks on Instagram at instagram.com/heroinesjourney_/ or instagram.com/__kimwillis/ - or connect with her on Twitter. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/meet-the-changemakers/message
