Professor Barry Zellen is a research scholar in the Department of Geography at the University of Connecticut and is a Senior Fellow (Arctic Security) of the Institute of the North.  His recent book is: “Arctic Exceptionalism: Cooperation in a Contested World.”   The Antarctic Treaty System convened the states that have an interest in the area but no legal claims. The United Nations, through its treaties, has been instrumental in setting up international laws that have provided stability for both areas at polar opposites.  Treaties on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, Law of the Sea and the IMO Polar Code are the linchpins.  Arctic Exceptionalism is a reflection of inherently cooperating and warfare was the exception. The eight states in the Arctic Council include the US, Russia, Canada, Sweden, Norway, Iceland, Finland and Greenland.  The invasion of Ukraine by Russia upended this delicate balance and challenged the stability of Arctic Exceptionalism.

Earlier this month, a Qatar court issued the death sentence to eight former Indian Navy personnel. The former officers were arrested in August of 2022, allegedly for espionage. It's a case that has brought the issue of Indian's arrested abroad, back into the forefront. According to the latest data, taken from Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha answers, there are about 9,500 Indians in prisons across 89 countries. Most of these Indian prisoners are in West Asian jails, over 2,000 are in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. In this episode, The Hindu speaks to Prabhash Ranjan, who teaches at the Faculty of Legal Studies at South Asian University, about what to do, if an Indian national is arrested in another country. Today I'm speaking to David Satter, journalist, and historian with unique insights into how the deformation and repression of the past, is having terrible consequences for present day Russia. David has written extensively about Russia and the Soviet Union, especially the decline and fall of the USSR and rise of post-Soviet Russia. David Satter became the first American journalist to be expelled from Russia since the Cold War in December 2013. This was perhaps not a surprising move, given that his books have covered topics such as the FSB's role in the apartment bombings that brought Putin to power. From 1976 to 1982 David was the Moscow correspondent of the Financial Times, and then became a special correspondent on Soviet affairs for The Wall Street Journal. Norman Solomon, an American journalist, media critic, author, and activist discusses his latest book is, “War Made Invisible: How America Hides the Human Toll of Its Military Machine.” Solomon's dozen other books include “War Made Easy: How Presidents and Pundits Keep Spinning Us to Death.” He has been actively involved in RootsAction and is the founder of the Institute for Public Accuracy. His recent book deals with the US having a larger military budget than the next 10 countries combined, and how it has been involved in endless wars with Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, Ukraine, and many other countries.  The main drivers of these wars are the Military Industrial Complex, Joint Chiefs of Staff, military leaders, apathetic and ill-informed citizens, and ultra-conservative media outlets (as well as some mainstream media), to mention a few.   Diplomacy should not be a dirty word. Solomon's book highlights the costs of war and its racial aspects on people of color.

We talked about Guardianships and Child Protection Services and how this government organized crime syndicate is still not understood by the victims - that makes these crimes all the more diabolical and the work of those exposing them even harder. Attorney Stone also explained the definition of Human Trafficking under the U.N.Office on Drugs and Crime. [1] “Human Trafficking is the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harbouring or receipt of people through force, fraud or deception, with the aim of exploiting them for profit. Men, women and children of all ages and from all backgrounds can become victims of this crime, which occurs in every region of the world. The traffickers often use violence or fraudulent employment agencies and fake promises of education and job opportunities to trick and coerce their victims.” All of this is done in the name of profit. These crimes are becoming so infested in our government. There is #WEKNOW. These laws are illegal and strip us of our UNALIENABLE RIGHTS--our BIRTH RIGHTS. The Declaration of Independence was discussed. As it is written, "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." These crimes against humanity is so depraved on so many levels. The violation of Federal and International Laws that further obstruct our JUSTICE. They become more vulnerable when they try to settle their issues or try to get access to court system. Since they are ignorant of the laws and rights, even law practitioners take the opportunity and exploit them!
