There are few people who have played a more important role in broadly supporting the rights of religious believers in China than Marco Respinti, director-in-charge of the Bitter Winter magazine.“In the first six to eight months of our existence online as a magazine, some 40 people who were connected to us on the ground were arrested in China. … Half of them simply disappeared,” Respinti says.During the International Religious Freedom Summit in Washington, I had the great pleasure of finally sitting down with Respinti to discuss how the Chinese Communist Party systematically infiltrates, coopts, and destroys religious movements in China.Views expressed in this video are opinions of the host and the guest, and do not necessarily reflect the views of The Epoch Times.

It's Thursday, February 8th, A.D. 2024. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark Russian government persecuting Ukrainian believers Dmytro Lubinets with Human Rights in Ukraine reports that Russian forces have carried out 76 acts of religious persecution since invading Ukraine in 2022. Lubinets told the International Religious Freedom Summit last week, “The Russian military has repeatedly threatened the total physical elimination of all Evangelical believers, calling them American spies, sectarians, and enemies of the Russian Orthodox people.” The persecution incidents include 29 cases of killed or captured religious leaders. One pastor from Ukraine told the summit, “Most priests and pastors, like me, have been threatened, intimidated, humiliated, detained, beaten and deported.” Hungary helps persecuted Christians in 50 countries Speaking of the International Religious Freedom Summit, a representative of Hungary promoted Biblical values at the event in Washington, D.C. Tristan Azbej is the Hungarian Secretary of State for the Aid of Persecuted Christians and the Hungary Helps Program. Hungary established the program in 2017 as the first-ever governmental department dedicated to serving persecuted Christians. Since then, it has engaged in over 300 faith-based humanitarian projects in 50 countries. Azbej told The Christian Post the program is part of Hungary's efforts to “implement the social teachings of the Bible.” Wisdom says in Proverbs 8:15, “By me kings reign, and rulers decree justice.” Mexico is top exporter of goods to U.S. now Mexico became the top exporter of goods to the U.S. last year. This unseats China which held the top spot for two decades. In 2023, Mexico exported $475.6 billion worth of goods to the U.S., up 5% from 2022. Meanwhile, China exported $427.2 billion worth of goods to U.S., down 20% from 2022. Also, the U.S. trade deficit fell 19% last year to $773.4 billion. It's the largest annual drop in the deficit in 15 years as the U.S. increased exports and decreased imports in 2023. The trade deficit measures the difference between exports and imports. RFK Jr: "NBC Nightly News declared it is no longer a two-man race, it's a three-man race" Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has a reason to be excited, reports RealClear Politics.com. KENNEDY: “I want to take note of a poll that came out, reported by NBC News today, that shows that 34% of the country would vote for me. (cheers) “NBC Nightly News declared that it is no longer a two-man race, it is a three-man race. (cheers) And if you do the math, all I really need, theoretically, is 34 points to win the election because if it is a three-way tie, and I get 34, it is winner-take-all.” Texas' fertility rate up 2% A recent report from the University of Houston found that the fertility rate in Texas increased by 2% in 2022. This followed the state's Heartbeat Act going into effect in 2021. It's the first time the Texas fertility rate increased since 2014. Life News reports the Heartbeat Act translated into about 8,000 more children being born in the Lone Star state in 2022. Life News also noted a “35.7 percent decline in the Texas teen-fertility rate since 2016. Overall, the Lone Star State has seen impressive long-term reductions in teen pregnancies, teen births, and teen abortions.” United Church of Christ declines after pushing homosexual sin The United Church of Christ reports it lost 286,000 members from 2012 to 2022. The mainline Protestant denomination also lost over 500 congregations over the same time period. It started to see significant losses after 2005 when it passed a resolution that year in favor of faux homosexual marriage. Just between 2020 and 2022, the United Church of Christ dropped from 4,794 congregations to 4,603 congregations. And membership declined from 773,000 to 712,000. Americans view small businesses, the military and churches favorably Pew Research released a new survey on how Americans view institutions. Americans are least likely to view large corporations positively at 29%, followed by banks at 37%, colleges at 53%, and public schools at 53%. 2.6 billion people worldwide identify as Christian And finally, the Center for the Study of Global Christianity released their 2024 report. The report estimates there will be about 2.6 billion people who identify as Christian this year. Africa and Asia are home to some of the fastest growing Christian populations. About 734 million Christians live in Africa, and 425 million live in Asia, both with growth rates of over 2%. Evangelical and Pentecostal groups are the fastest growing among Christian denominations. An estimated 445,000 will be sent out this year. And an estimated 28% of the world has no access to the Gospel, down from 54% back in 1900. Speaking of Christ, Isaiah 9:7 says, “Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end, upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, to order it and establish it with judgment and justice from that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.” Close And that's The Worldview in 5 Minutes on this Thursday, February 8th in the year of our Lord 2024. It's Thursday, March 16th, A.D. 2023. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark Top Chinese Commie Xi Jinping “re-elected” Xi Jinping won a third five-year term as China's president last Friday. This puts the 69-year-old leader on track to stay in power for life. He won re-election uncontested, taking the vote of the National People's Congress 2,952 to 0. Xi rose to dominance over China during the last decade. He removed rivals and filled positions in the Communist Party with his supporters. This dominance has been threatened by the rapid growth of Christianity in China which the government has unsuccessfully tried to stamp out. China's crackdown on churches similar to Mao's Cultural Revolution The latest crackdown on Christianity in China is evident in the highly populated province of Henan. ChinaAid reports provincial leaders now require citizens to get permission before going to church. The program is implemented through an app called “Smart Religion.” The move is strategic since most of China's house churches started in Henan. Sam Brownback with the International Religious Freedom Summit told CBN News that Xi Jinping's regime is becoming more like Mao Zedong's regime. BROWNBACK: “We're seeing the continuation of the Xi Jinping regime, becoming a full Mao regime is really what's happening. “What he's doing right now is he's using the current technology he has to do what Mao [Zedong] did in the Cultural Revolution. He's just tightening down the whole situation, going after faith communities in particular, and doing it in a high-tech fashion. “Now, they're even requiring people to register on their phones to be able to go to church. Well, that's so they can track them and shut the places down.” Santa Clara County, CA tracked Christians during COVID lockdown Meanwhile in the U.S., one California county was caught tracking location data on the phones of Christians to see if they were violating COVID-19 lockdowns. The Mercury News reports newly unearthed court documents show Santa Clara County was using surveillance measures against members of Calvary Chapel San Jose – which was just featured in the Jesus Revolution movie. The county is seeking $3 million in fines from the church of 3,000 congregants for continuing to meet during the pandemic. Mariah Gondeiro, an attorney for Calvary Chapel, said, “It is unconscionable how much time and money this county has spent surveilling and targeting this church when they should be focused on rebuilding the community.” Proverbs 17:15 says, “He who justifies the wicked and he who condemns the righteous are both alike an abomination to the LORD.” COVID lockdowns increased domestic violence A new study about COVID-19 lockdowns found domestic violence in the U.S. increased during the pandemic and negatively affected women's mental health. Arielle Scoglio, an epidemiologist at Harvard, was the lead researcher. She said, “Women in abusive relationships are often already isolated. … Stay-at-home orders further isolated women.” Dr. Panagis Galiatsatos at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine noted, “I see this as another consequence of the surge in dire mental health outcomes that were associated with measures to prevent COVID-19 spread.” Texas judge considers outlawing the Abortion Kill Pill Yesterday, a judge in Texas began hearing oral arguments in a case that could end the sale of chemical abortion drugs. The Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine is challenging the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's decision to approve mifepristone in 2000. The Abortion Kill Pill uses a two-drug combination of mifepristone and misoprostol. Chemical abortions account for over half of all abortions in the U.S. The Biden administration has expanded access to chemical abortions by allowing abortion drugs to be sold through the mail and at pharmacies. Biden: Opposition to transgender surgeries for kids is sinful During an interview with The Daily Show on Monday, President Joe Biden described opposition to transgenderism as sinful and cruel. BIDEN: “Transgender kids is a really hard thing. What's going on in Florida is, as my mother, would say close to sinful. I mean, it's just terrible what they're doing. … It's cruel. And the way we do it is we make sure we pass legislation like we passed on same-sex marriage. You mess with that, you're breaking the law, and you're going to be held accountable.” Isaiah 5:20 says, “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness.” Biden was referencing Florida's efforts to keep gender confusion out of the state. In response to Biden, Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis tweeted, “It is not ‘sinful' to prohibit the mutilation of minors. It is not acceptable for the federal government to mandate that procedures like sex change operations be allowed for kids.” Former atheist turned Christian evangelist won Oscar for short film And finally, a former atheist-turned-Christian-evangelist won an Oscar at the Academy Awards on Sunday. Charlie Mackesy won best animated short film for “The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse.” The short film is based on a successful children's book by the British artist. One of his prominent works is a bronze sculpture called “The Return of the Prodigal Son.” Besides being a world-class artist, Mackesy is known for sharing the Gospel in the United Kingdom. I sit down with Katrina Lantos Swett, president of the Lantos Foundation for Human Rights and Justice and co-chair of the recently concluded International Religious Freedom Summit. We discuss her fight for human rights and religious freedom, including raising awareness about the Chinese regime's practice of forcibly harvesting the organs of Falun Gong practitioners and other prisoners of conscience. And we discuss the legacy of Swett's late father, Congressman Tom Lantos, a survivor of the Holocaust, and what inspires her to continue her work.“My father had escaped from a slave labor camp. He was able to make his way back to Budapest and he found refuge in one of the safe houses that Raoul Wallenberg had set up … One of the things that [Raoul] Wallenberg did was he rented a number of buildings around Budapest, hung the Swedish flag there, basically said these are now part of the Swedish legation, and they are off-limits to the Nazis and to the Hungarian Arrow Cross,” she says. Wallenberg, a Swedish diplomat, started issuing “protective passports” and inspired other members of the diplomatic corps in Hungary to do the same.“My mother would tell us: we called Wallenberg our Moses from the North, who had come to save us and lead us to the promised land. And so from a young age, both my sister and myself, we knew the stories of danger and of terror, but [also] that someone had come to help.”Follow American Thought Leaders on social media:Twitter: https://twitter.com/AmThoughtLeaderTruth Social: https://truthsocial.com/@AmThoughtLeaderGettr: https://gettr.com/user/amthoughtleaderFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/AmericanThoughtLeadersGab: https://gab.com/AmThoughtLeaderTelegram: https://t.me/AmThoughtLeader

The Chinese Communist Party is notorious for its policies of repression, especially against persons of faith. From Uyghur Muslims to Christians to Tibetan Buddhists, people of all religious traditions are subject to draconian regulations of the practice of their most closely held beliefs. International Christian Concern's latest report on persecution around the globe identified China as one of the worst violators of religious freedom. In light of this, the world cannot have a passive response when a fundamental freedom is under such dire threat. The state of religious liberty across the globe is dire — and, in some countries, continuing to diminish. Christian Post reporter Brandon Showalter recently attended the International Religious Freedom Summit, and he reports on what he observed and why it matters."As the West becomes increasingly irreligious, religious freedom internationally outside of the West is diminished," he said. "I don't think that ... secularism has the robust sort of zest within it to contend for actual religious freedom because secularism tends to see religion as either unnecessary or something bad for society."Explore the state of religious freedom globally on this episode of the podcast.
