This episode is a nice little breather for Murph and Bro. Just us, no guests. We also play a beloved classic for the two. Murph pretty much only played Yakuza 5, but Bro has played a bunch of stuff. Shallow phone games, old games he's already played but slightly upgraded, and brand new games based aesthetically on very very old art styles. We follow all of that up with the Playstation 2 platformer: Jak and Daxter! Poi celebriamo i vent'anni di Jak and Daxter (51:13). We're back with more Nontendo! The plan this week was to cover two 3D platformers from some well-established credentials: Warren Specter and Naughty Dog! Epic Mickey and Jak and Daxter come back to life, warts and all. Both of these games constitute eagerly awaited follow-ups and both are very much still worth talking about today. “Wait a minute! We are not going back to Misty Island! Are we?” In the years between the Crash Bandicoot trilogy and Uncharted, Naughty Dog were primarily the Jak and Daxter studio. While the series would go on to darker sequels and less successful spinoffs, it began with 3D platform open world collect 'em up adventure, Jak and Daxter: The Precursor legacy. In this podcast, Leon, Brian, Josh, Ryan and community correspondents clamber and kick their way through the elf (?) and Ottsel's initial outing. http://media.blubrry.com/caneandrinse/caneandrinse.com/podcast/cane_and_rinse_issue_470.mp3 Music featured in this issue:1. There were so many character based franchises that emerged on the PS2, and it's easy to see how there could be confusion about which is which. An attempt is made by Wulff to distinguish Jak and Daxter (particularly from Ratchet and Clank) in Jake's mind. Press B To Cancel now on Youtube! I’ll say something really teary at the funeral, like “Welcome to NOCLIP!” Welcome to the podcast! This week, we’re going to be talking about Jak and Daxter, which has been on the list for quite some time. Jak was one of the first of the 3D platformers that defined the genre during the PS2 era, and like many of its contemporaries, is one of the games that’s quick to come to mind for a lot of people when talking about the console. Unlike games like Ratchet and Clank or Sly Cooper, though, Jak is light on gimmicks, predominately taking the style of game Naughty Dog established in Crash Bandicoot and expanding it out to offer more freedom and more character. The game’s fairly simple design, mostly revolving around using 3D platforming to get collectables, is what helps it hold up today. We’re going to be talking about world design and the benefits presented by having all the levels exist in a single contiguous map, the cartoony aspects of the game and its characters, and we dissect the true purpose of the bolted shut mine carts in the Volcanic Crater level. Thank you for joining us this week! On occasion, we get to go back to our original list of games we made for the podcast years and years ago and find something that we finally think it’s time to cover, and this was one of those games. Does it hold up? Yes and no, really. It holds up about as well as you could expect given the decades since its original release, but it still feels worth returning to if you haven’t played it before. Do you agree? Let us know in the Discord or in the comments. Next time, we’re going to be talking about Dragon Age: Origins, but without Chad, so I’m sure that will entice all of you to join us for that episode!

As we arrive in Salt Lake City, we have a reunion with a character we met in the opening chapters of the game. Joel must face an impossible decision that will change the dynamic of his relationship with Ellie forever, or will it?
As we navigate through the snowy cabins of David's town, we see some of the games most truly gruesome and violent moments before discovered some of the most peaceful and beautiful ones. T-Minus 2 weeks until Part II!
We tackle some major, major twists and pivots in the plot through the next few chapters of the game. We make the long trip from the Suburbs to Jackson and see Tommy & Joel interact for the first time since the opening chapter of the game. What's in store for us as we get closer and closer to the Fireflies?
We discuss what we've been up this past week and tackle a big debate; if sports were to come back this year, would there be an asterisk because of the shortened season?
Fresh off the Prologue, we discuss the next phase of Joel's journey. We are introduced to some important facets of the game and start to experience some twists and turns as Joel & Ellie begin their journey across Post-Apocaplyptic America.
