This episode is the second part of teaching kids about money with my guest, Alpha Schulte. Are you looking for ways to teach your kids about money in an engaging and positive manner? Have you heard of the Jam Jar method, which uses jars to divide money into spending, saving, and giving categories? How does this visual and tactile approach help children understand budgeting and set financial goals? Have you ever thought about turning everyday experiences into valuable money lessons for your children? What can they learn from running a market stall, calculating prices, and giving change? Can holidays provide opportunities for kids to manage their own budgets and make discerning choices? In a world moving towards cashless transactions, how do we ensure kids still grasp the concept of money? What creative tools can we use to adapt to this digital age? How do digital wallets and banking apps come into play, and why is it important to teach online financial safety? Are our own money beliefs influencing how we teach our children about finances? How can reflecting on these beliefs help foster a healthier financial mindset in our kids? Why is it essential to balance financial education with finding joy in simplicity? Join us as we explore the answers to all these questions and how it can make financial education more enjoyable for kids. Follow me on: 1. Instagram: @leannetranpsychology2. Facebook: @Leanne Tran 3. Both are 2020 Christmas songs by artists who got their start by going viral on youtube - and both beg the question, "ok but is this good actually?" The ranking music in this episode is "Chocolate Rain" by Tay Zonday. Thank you to our #1 Fan TimeMachine for these requests!

Turning Point: Wasps in a Jam Jar by Jonathan Maitland. Elspeth was married to Geoffrey Howe. She was the complete opposite of the other woman in his life, Margaret Thatcher. Elspeth was Chair of the Broadcasting Standards Commission and a vocal supporter of the homeless. She was a feminist, whereas Mrs Thatcher thought a woman's place was in the home. This rivalry played a substantial part in Geoffrey Howe's famous resignation speech in 1990. Arguably the speech was a major turning point in contemporary history. It meant the end of Mrs Thatcher. But most significant of all, the European battle lines in the Conservative Party were indelibly drawn that day. There's a straight line from that speech to the Brexit referendum.  So sometimes I do elaborate jokes that only I get. Maybe "joke" is the wrong word... anyway... So these 6 songs are part of a theme... kinda. The order is: COVID, Team Ups, Lounge, Ska by Non-Ska, 90's Covers, and TV Themes. I first did this on the episode "Road Map to Madness" where that order kicks in in reverse on the 3rd track, then we had the episodes "the Virus That didn't Leave" for a COVID ep, "the Greatest Team-Ups of All Time" a Team Ups ep, "the Millionaire's Holiday" for a loungy ep, "Search for the Open Gate" had ska songs by non-ska artists, "Back in the Day..." was chock full of '90s Covers, and "the Television Adaption" was all TV them covers! And to top it all off "Dig That Crazy Beat" was a reverse order to the "Road Map to Madness" episode... why did I do this? A joke? A challenge? Who knows. Why did I do it again here? Say hello to Hugo Tilmouth, co-founder of The Up, on a mission to upgrade every hospitality experience.    Now you might not have heard of The Up, but I bet you've most likely used one of their products.    Ever run out of battery in a pub or restaurant? That's Charged Up - their mobile charging power banks, allowing you to charge up on the go.    Ever used the sanitisers on public transport? That's Cleaned Up - their mobile sanitiser stations, allowing you to clean up on the go.    Ever used an app in a pub or restaurant to order drinks? Well that might very well be their new app Served Up, to help get you served up while out and about.    And while they are not a direct-to-consumer brand, what I really like about The Up is their DTC approach to B2B - partnering and innovating to create the best experience for the customer.    Now while Hugo is self-employed his CV boasts an impressive array of accolades. A BA in Engineering. A masters in renewable energy. Made £1mn in a week at the start of the pandemic and was recently on the Forbes 30 Under 30 Europe list.    His company isn't doing bad either. They won grants from Shell's LiveWire & 02 Think big. And raised £3.5mn from Jon Hegerty's 'The Garage' as well as Jam Jar and Founder's Factory. They're now stocked in 35,000+ venues across Europe with big brands like Brewdog, Pizza Express and WeWork cheering them on.    Not bad for 4 years in business aged 25.    In this episode we talk about their modern approach to B2B, the journey so far and about the beauty of 'bashing down walls'.        In this episode we talk about their modern approach to B2B, the journey so far and about the beauty of 'bashing down walls'.

Patch management is one of the most time consuming aspects of any admin. There have been a number of projects that have sought to make this easier for admins. Some of the earliest tools we used to admin devices such as Filewave’s File Sets were replaced with the package format at many a shop when we moved to PackageMaker and the early Casper Suite. But those meant each organization needed to do the same work on the 10 to 1,000 software titles. Then tools like AutoPkg, Jamf Patch, and Kinobi came where the community could share recipes for making packages automatically. This is mostly for software that isn’t yet on the App Store. These days we see a lot of hybrid approaches. AutoPkg with Autopkgr going to munki or Jamf through JamJar or Kinobi picking up a feed. We’ve had people from each of those tools on in the past, so today we have Ryan from Alectrona here to talk about what he’s been doing in this space! You might recognize Tony’s Chocolonely by its quirky labels and comic font logo. Behind the Dutch brand’s playful vibe, however, is a profound mission to end the use of child labor within the cocoa industry. Founded in 2005, Tony’s has emerged as a popular international chocolate brand sold throughout Europe and the United States. Led by its purpose-driven strategy, the company is grounded in fair-trade business practices, deep relationships with its sourcing partners and measurable goals for social impact. In an interview included in this episode, Ynzo van Zanten, Tony’s Chief Evangelist, spoke about how the company has navigated the development of a premium brand while staying focused on its overarching social mission, how to build a purpose-driven team and how to attract investors when “money is not a goal.” Show notes:  0:40: Interview: Ynzo van Zanten, Chief Evangelist, Tony’s Chocolonely -- Taste Radio editor Ray Latif spoke with van Zanten about the genesis of Tony’s, how his work experience led him to the company and why he believes that being financially successful and socially responsible should not be viewed as “two opposite ends of the spectrum.” He also discussed how Tony’s promotes its mission on packaging versus through digital content, how consumers rank the brand’s attributes and how the company evaluates margin and profitability when pricing its products. Later, he explained how the company measures social impact via a proprietary system, how Tony’s won over private equity firms Verlinvest and Jam Jar, the strategy for expanding retail placement and distribution internationally and how other CPG companies can support the brand’s mission. The eCommerce Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 19, 2019 33:42

Welcome my fellow eCommerce Entrepreneurs - this show is for the Kurious about eCommerce and for those that want to get better at digital business.   I see a lot of people starting with a lot of hope and optimism for many reasons but don't really have a plan or framework for building their business. It was the same for me. When I started my first eCommerce business, there was no framework for me to use. There wasn't a guide pointing out the best way to build an online business.    So, coming up into today's show I am going to run through a proven framework for setting up and growing a successful eCommerce business. And I don't make that claim lightly. It's not clickbait. I can tell you it's the framework that I use for my businesses and also when consulting with clients all over the world and I've seen great results with it - so if you are a fellow eCommercer then you are really going to enjoy today's show as I run through my “secret Sauce”   Note: Don't let the simplicity of this framework fool you - we work hard to keep things simple. Simple is powerful!   Here's an outline of the JERSEY Framework: Jam Jar: Start with getting the right products to sell online. Think about your niche (episode 5), how can you curate high-demand products that create profit through knowable sales patterns for your niche? Engineer: Build an adaptable eCommerce platform that provides the best buying experience and integrates with your business systems. If you are just starting out, you have to balance this with a budget, so look at something like Shopify.  Resonate: Create that best buying experience for your customer. This is where you can easily miss it, especially if you use a pre-defined template. Use the ‘knowable sales patterns' from Jam Jar to help you create a website that resonates and converts. Send: Find your customers and direct them to your website so that they buy from you. This is your marketing. But don't forget the end aim - sales. Likes and follows are great, but if you have a million followers but no one is buying, then they are not your customers.  Experience: Remember there are two sides to eCommerce: the digital part and the real part. You want to create the best digitalexperience for your customers and the best realexperience too. Yo-yo: Work hard to build a repeatable and referrable business. A typical eCommerce business will find that only 20% of people visiting your site are repeat customers. Our aim is to build the repeatable aspect of our business, as well a make a business that customers are willing to refer to others. If you do the first 5 elements of the Framework well, this step becomes a whole lot easier.   So you start with great products, build a website, think about customer conversion and journey, define your marketing strategy, deliver a fab experience (both real and digital) and then work hard to make your business repeatable and referrable.    You can also use this tool to diagnose your existing website too. You can work through this framework to understand what is working and what is not working for your business.      Links Collab Project Kurious Digital The Jam Jar Funnel Course Shopify Get Coached on the podcast

Today’s episode is sponsored by the Mean Girls’ Yarn Club, Episode 6: And So It Begins! There are a few spots still available. The More The Scarier! Visit the website for all the gory details. http://meangirlsyarnclub.blogspot.com Catching Up: (0:38) Laura has been catching up with summer television. She's really enjoying Continuum, Suits, The Last Ship, and is going to start watching Turn. She's finished dying yarn for Yarnosphere and CogKNITive and is excited to have 3 new colorways for Lambie Toes and 1 new colorway for Dizzy Blonde sock. She's happy she just paid off her car as well. She had a bit of an accident with bacon grease, which is unfortunate. She also has a bit of hand pain right now. Jen opened her show and is thrilled with how it's going, especially since it's inspired by true stories from people who live in the community. She shares this video about a sewing circle and the power of crafting to create a community, which is one of the stories that inspired her show. She's taking a Shakespeare class, which is really exciting. She's been watching Gotham and she sees potential, even if the show isn't great yet. She's been doing some cross-stitch with a kit from Watty's Wall Stuff. And she's learning some new music for a Bob Dylan/Dylan Thomas tribute, which is also a fundraiser for Interval House. In the Knitting Bag: (15:23) Laura has been working on her Yggdrasil Afghan by Lisa Jacobs out of reclaimed Berroco Vintage Chunky in Mocha. She's done with the center panel. She's doing another hat for Halos of Hope. She wants to do some lace but she's not sure what. Jen started her Chickadee Cardigan by Ysolda Teague again. She's much happier with the colorwork this time around. She's making it out of Quince and Co. Chickadee. She's done with the yoke and working on the first sleeve.  She's been working on her Heirloom Layette Set by Kerin Dimeler-Laurence out of Cascade Heritage in Snow. She's done with the lace section, so now she just has the garter stitch and then the knitted on border. And she's been working on her Ohana mitts (her own design). Finished Objects: (20:22) Laura finished her Knitted Scale Mail Gloves by CraftyMutt for her step-granddaughter. They were knit out of Knitpicks Brava Worsted in dark pink with rainbow scales from The Ringlord.com. And she finished a hat for Halos of Hope out of Knitpicks Brava in Camel Heather and Vanna's Choice Lavender. Jen hasn't really finished anything. She needs to block things. Lots of things! We mention Craftsy, specifically their Intarsia Class by Sally Melville. Devil's Tower: (24:24) Laura has been UFO free, because she cleaned out all of her UFOs and frogged them. Jen pulled out her Leah’s Lovely Cardigan from More Last Minute Knitted Gifts (made of of Malabrigo sock in Eggplant) and finished the knitting. She still has to weave in ends, block it, and do all the finishing work so she's not counting it as done. Frog Pond: (27:15) Laura hasn't been knitting much so she has nothing to report and she's more used to the Yggdrasil pattern, so she's able to fix her mistakes quickly. When Jen picked up her Leah's Lovely, she had put the stitches on waste yarn because she needed the needles for something else. Since the pattern has you hold the yoke stitches on waste yarn and pick them up for the neckband. So she picked it up, assuming she was done with the yoke and started the button bands. The she realized that she hadn't actually completed the yoke (it was maybe an inch short) and done the last decrease row. She didn't want to rip out the button bands so she did the last decrease row and tried it on and it fits, so she left it. But she probably should have marked where she was in the pattern. Jen also had a bit of trouble with her Chickadee, mostly because she can't count when she's sick. On Deck: (29:50) Laura wants to make to make Dreambird by Nadita Swings out of Knitpicks Chroma in Jam Jar and Gloss in black, Ink by Hanna Maciejewska out of Dizzy Blonde Studios Superwash Sock in Applegate, Motoring Madness mittens by Audrey Nicklin for her husband, and the Effortless Cardigan by Hannah Fettig out of Dizzy Blonde DK.  She also wants to makeDeath Star by Patricia Castillo, the Crochet Fan Shawl by Valerie Martin, and Art Déco by Nadita Swings. Jen has the same baby stuff on her list (Dump Truck Cardigan, the Porcupine Blanket from 60 Quick Baby Knits out of Cascade 220 Superwash, another Playful Stripes Cardigan, the Baby Yours Sweater, and more sweaters for herself. We mention the Knitmore Girls and their Fit, Flatter, and Feel Wonderful KAL, Susan B. Anderson's Project Sweater Chest, and Marly Bird's Curvy Knits Craftsy Class. Knit Culture: (35:58) We interview designer Brenda Castiel. We talk about her history as a knitter and a designer. We talk about her newest shawl, the Winona Shawl. She also has a great blog, Knits and Travel, where she documents her knitting and travel life. We give a recap of Knit Dizzney, which was awesome and we had a blast. Thank you to everyone who came; we loved seeing you all. And thank you to our awesome sponsors. Pam Haschke of Halos of Hope and Erika Hernandez of Cooperative Press provided the prizes. Mad Color Fiber Arts, Skeindalous Yarns, and Dizzy Blonde Studios provided the mini-skeins and coupon codes. One Geek To Craft Them All provided the stitch markers. Cheryl Joy Kong of Thirty One Gifts provided the pen and mini-catalog. And Alamitos Bay Yarn Company provided the skeins of sparkly yarn. So thank you to all of them! We mention our September Stashdown Challenge which is Pirates vs. Ninjas. And our October challenge, which is Fall Festivals (Halloween, Samhain, Harvest, whatever you celebrate). Geek Culture: (59:26) We mention the Stash2Go app, another app that works with Ravelry (like Yarma and Wooly). We also point out the Firefly fan film "The Verse." Events: (1:01:57) We will be at Yarnosphere on October 4th and 5th at the Expo Arts Center in Bixby Knolls in Long Beach. Dizzy Blonde will be a vendor and Jen will just be there for fun. And Jen and Laura will both be at the CogKNITive Fiber Retreat on October 11 in the La Quinta Inn in Tehachapi. Dizzy Blonde Studios will be vending. That same weekend (October 11) is the Vista Fiber Arts Fiesta in Downtown San Diego. We aren’t going, but it sounds great. WeFF will be November 2nd, 2014 in Torrance. Dizzy Blonde Studios will be vending.  It’s a lot of fun, with great demonstrations, raffles, and lots of cool vendors. Our next milestone prize will be at 1000 members, so join the Ravelry Group. And don’t forget to post your finished September projects in the thread! Keep stashing down!
