Mais quelles différences existent entre un atelier et une maison-atelier ? Et quelles subtilités s'ajoutent quand cette maison-atelier n'est pas celle d'un seul artiste mais celle d'un couple d'artistes ?Esprit d'atelier, arp et taeuber, vivre et créer, nouvelle exposition de la Fondation Arp présentée du 2 février au 24 novembre 2024, plongera les visiteurs dans l'intimité d'un couple emblématique de l'art du XXe siècle. Ils pourront découvrir comment le lieu a été pensé, comment s'articulent le temps du travail et celui du quotidien des deux créateurs. Les espaces de vie et d'atelier se confondent dans une maison et un jardin dont l'histoire évolue au cours des années. Ces espaces s'agrandissent, les fonctions changent, et l'art se développe également au gré de ces modifications.Le parcours de l'exposition présentera des oeuvres majeures des deux artistes ( sculptures, peintures, dessins, écrits… ) en parallèle d'éléments inédits ( esquisses, ébauches, photographies ), témoignant de l'esprit d'atelier, multiple, qui résidait dans cette maison. Tout en évitant la reconstitution d'ateliers factices, chacun des créateurs sera présenté dans l'espace qu'il occupait à l'origine. D'autres salles seront consacrées à la compréhension du concept de maison-atelier, par les éléments de vie, par les oeuvres en commun de Arp et Taeuber, et par les rencontres et les nombreuses visites de tous les artistes des mouvements avant-gardistes européens de l'entre-deux-guerres ( Max Ernst, Tristan Tzara, Kurt Schwitters, Theo van Doesburg, Paul Eluard, Marcel Duchamp, Maurice Ravel… ), si prompts à venir rejoindre ce couple le temps d'une journée, d'un verre, d'une oeuvre…La Fondation Arp est une fondation d'artiste, dont Jean Arp (1886-1966) avait souhaité la création et esquissé les contours plusieurs années avant sa mort. Créée en 1978 à l'initiative de sa seconde épouse, Marguerite Arp-Hagenbach, la Fondation est dédiée à la diffusion et à la protection de la collection exceptionnelle dont elle est dotée, ainsi qu'à la promotion de l'héritage culturel de Jean Arp et de Sophie Taeuber-Arp, en France et à l'étranger. À l'occasion des 80 ans de la mort de l'artiste suisse Sophie Taeuber, la fondation Arp, à Clamart près de Paris, rend hommage au travail de cette pionnière suisse du XXe siècle. Une exposition met en lumière jusqu'au 10 décembre l'étendue de ses créations au sein même de la maison-atelier qu'elle a dessinée et qui a été pour elle et son mari, le sculpteur Jean Arp, le lieu d'une production foisonnante.

Iel est par ailleurs sensible au langage plastique sobre et corporel de Jean Arp ainsi qu'au jeu et aux recherches de Claude Cahun sur le corps, le genre et l'identité. Hij ontleende omtrekken en vormen aan de werkelijkheid, die hij uitwerkte tot zuivere abstractie. Net als zijn schilderijen zijn de geschilderde oppervlakken van zijn beelden altijd neutraal, zonder een spoor van handmatige bewerking.Niet alleen Amerikaanse, ook Europese kunst beïnvloedde Kelly.   I ran across a fascinating old journal as I was researching this show - what I especially loved about it was the layout.     If you want to copy it here's what you do:   Dedicate a page of your journal to each type of plant in your garden. Make some notes about the characteristics of the plant. (Maybe what you like about it as well) Then leave room to chart the major events with the plant.   For instance, after describing Kalmia Angustifolia, it says this:  June 7, 1908  First Flowers June 15th  Generally comes into bloom July 13  Still in flower Rarely any flowers in the autumn.   Doesn't that make for a very handy and personal reference guide for your garden?       Brevities #OTD  It's the anniversary of the death of one of the most eminent botanists of his age: Louis Claude Richard who died on this day in 1821.  His great grandfather had been in charge of the menagerie at Versailles.   His grandfather had been charge of the botanic gardens at Trianon.   Even his own father was placed in charge of the King's Garden.   A biography of Richard was featured in international Gazette in 1831. It said:   "Louis Claude Richard was therefore born in the midst of plants; he learnt to know them sooner than the letter of the alphabet; and before he he was able to write correctly, he could draw flowers, or plans of gardens... He did not recollect a moment of his life in which be had not been a botanist; and if he ever engaged in other studies, botany was always the object of them." In 1781, he was the naturalist to the king.   Richard sailed from France to French Guyana. Eight years later, when he returned to France, he brought his herbarium; which contained over 1000 plants.         #OTD  It was on this day in 1769, that Daniel Boone first laid eyes on the forests of present-day Kentucky.   Boone wrote in his journal:   "Not a breeze shook the most tremulous leaf. I had gained the summit of a commanding ridge, and, looking round with astonishing delight, beheld the ample plains, the beauteous tracts below."   30 years later, Boone left Kentucky and followed his son to Missouri.   He was often asked why he left Kentucky.  He always answered the same way:   “Too crowded! too crowded! I want elbow-room!”         #OTD  It's the birthday of Fletcher Steele; an American landscape architect who designed over 700 gardens. He was born on this day in 1885.   His most iconic work was nestled into the Hillside in the Berkshire Mountains of Massachusetts.   It's called The Blue Staircase at Naumkeag.   Steele designed the staircase for Mable Choate in 1926. She would become his most important client. She was 56 and he was 41.   Choate had a history of working with designers and she knew how to collaborate with them.   Steele was one of the first landscape architects to speak of plant material as one of the elements in a composition.   It was Fletcher Steele who said "Gardening seems to be the most ephemeral of the arts."       #OTD It's the birthday of the botanist Jack Harlan, born on this day in 1917.   Harlan followed in the footsteps of his botanists father Harry Harland. He loved going on plant collecting expeditions - mainly in search of new genetic material for the USDA's crop breeding programs.   Harlan was worried about genetic vulnerability and genetic wipeout   Harlan said: "We  MUST collect and study wild and weedy relatives of our cultivated plants... we cannot afford to ignore any source of useable genes.”   Harlan wrote those words in 1970.   And one of his final works contain these words:   "We will not and cannot find a time or place where agriculture originated. We will not and cannot because it did not happen that way. Agriculture is not the result of a happening, an idea, an invention, discovery or instruction by a god or goddess. It emerged as a result of long periods of intimate coevolution between plants and man. Animals are not essential; plants supply over 90% of the food consumed by humans."     Unearthed Words Here's a quote from poet, sculptor, and artist Jean Arp who died on this day in 1966. "Art is a fruit that grows in man, like a fruit on a plant, or a child in its mother's womb."   Here's a quote from Charles Rennie Mackintosh, who was born on this day in 1868. "Art is the flower - Life is the green leaf."     Today's book recommendation: Fletcher Steele, Landscape Architect: An Account of the Gardenmaker's Life, 1885-1971 by Robin S. Karson   Karson wrote this book back in 2003.   The cover shows Steele's signature work: The Blue Staircase.   The beginning of Karson's book includes Steele's most famous quote. He said,   "The chief vice in the garden is to be merely... pretty."     Today's Garden Chore It's another Photo Friday in the Garden.     Water your plants and then go take pictures.   I did this with my student gardener today. Dr. Craft curated the Nasher’s 2015 touring retrospective Melvin Edwards: Five Decadesand, as with The Nature of Arp, was principal author of the accompanying publication. She was also a contributing author for Nasher exhibition catalogues on the artists Ann Veronica Janssens and Katharina Grosse; on Isamu Noguchi for Return to Earth: Ceramic Sculpture of Fontana, Melotti, Miró, Noguchi, and Picasso, 1943-1963; and Lara Almarcegui, Rachel Harrison, and Liz Larner for Nasher XChange: 10 Years. 10 Artists. 10 Sites. In 2017 she curated the group exhibition Paper into Sculpture, which examined contemporary artists who use paper as a sculptural material, and she has also worked on research and presentation of works from the Nasher’s permanent collection. Dr. Craft holds a B.A. in art history from Texas Christian University and an M.A. from the University of Virginia. Phillip Larrimore is a visual artist who explores that which is between painting and sculpture and realism and abstraction. His most recent work is creating multi-layered paintings on aluminum screens that he shapes into various forms. His paintings have been shown at many exhibits, including at The Gaston County Museum and CPCC Sensoria.  Phillip is also an essayist, an art critic and a poet. He has written extensively for Charlotte Viewpoint and the Charlotte Observer on literature, theater, music and opera. His poetry has been published in The New Yorker magazine. His artistry extends to botany and designing hundreds of gardens for clients of nurseries. He has co-owned a documentary video business on avant-garde dance performance and a retail cacti and orchid store. Phillip studied at the Corcoran School of the Arts & Design. Hans Arp (1886–1966) ist eine der zentralen Figuren der klassischen Moderne, und im Kunstmuseum Winterthur ist er dank dem Legat Friedrich-Jezler breit vertreten. Darauf baut die Ausstellung auf, die in drei Kapitel gegliedert ist. Sie beginnt Ende der 1920er Jahre mit einer Gruppe von Bildreliefs. Damit hatte Arp eine neue Form erfunden, in der er die bildhafte Wirkung der Malerei, die räumliche Präsenz der Plastik, das Prinzip der Collage und den Automatismus der Zeichnung zu einer Synthese brachte. Das zweite Kapitel befasst sich mit Arps neuartigen skulpturalen Lösungen: Die 1930er Jahre waren das Jahrzehnt der Concrétions, abstrakten, sockellosen Skulpturen. Sie wirken wie Naturschöpfungen, als ob sie analog der Schöpfung des Kosmos entstanden wären, festgehaltene Momente aus einem stetigen Fliessen und Werden. Am Ende der Ausstellung stehen Werke der Nachkriegszeit. In dieser Periode schlug Arp in der Bemalung der Reliefs eine überraschende Brücke vom Prinzip des Zufalls zum zeitgenössischen Informel. In den Skulpturen experimentierte er mit der Wirkung verschiedenster materieller Ausführungen. Obwohl nun bereits zum Klassiker der neueren Plastik avanciert, behielt Arp in seiner Arbeitsweise den Humor und die unbekümmerte Respektlosigkeit vor vermeintlich festen Werten bei, die ihn stets angeleitet hatte.

När första världskriget bröt ut blev Schweiz en fristad för upproriska konstnärer. På en restaurang i Zürich samlades dadaisterna genom Cabaret Voltaire. En plats för uppror och experimentlusta. Gunnar Bolin och Karsten Thurfjell återvänder till Restaurang Meiereis i Zürich den plats som dadaisterna gjorde till sin.Första Världskriget pågick i länderna runt om Schweiz. I Zürich samlade Hugo Ball och hans fru Emmy Hennings några konstnärer kring sig för att bryta med gammalmodiga estetiska ideal. Övriga medgrundare var Tristan Tzara, Marcel Janco och Jean Arp. Konsten skulle stå vid sidan av sociala hierarkier. Cabaret Voltaire blev samlingspunkten för den här konstnärliga explosionen där bullrig musik, diktuppläsning, och bisarra danser ramades in av bilder och kostymer under återkommande soaréer.

Con una conferencia del crítico y profesor de Historia del Arte de la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid Julián Gallego, se inauguró en la sede de la Fundación, el pasado 18 de abril, la Exposición «Maestros del siglo XX. Naturaleza muerta», en la que se ofrecen 79 obras pertenecientes a 32 destacados maestros de los principales movimientos y escuelas artisticas del presente siglo, cuyo catalogo presentamos en forma de diccionario en el número anterior de este Boletín Informativo. La muestra representa una variada selección de 72 pinturas y 7 esculturas que han tratado el tema de la «naturaleza muerta» a lo largo del siglo XX. Las escuelas y estilos a los que se pueden adscribir obras y autores son los que se han ido sucediendo en el arte eontemporaneo de diversos paises: surrealismo, cubismo, dadaismo, expresionismo, arte «pop», arte abstracto, etc. Los pintores y escultores representados en la exposición son los siguientes: Jean Arp, Mac Beckman, Jules Bissier, Pierre Bonnard, Georges Braque, Marc Chagall, Jean Dubuffet, Raoul Dufy, Max Ernst, Alberto Giacometti, Juan Gris, Paul K1ee, Oskar Kokoschka, Le Corbusier, Fernand Leger, Roy Lichtenstein, Rene Magritte, Henri Matisse, Joan Miro, Adolphe Monticelli, Ben Nicholson, Claes Oldenburg, Pablo Picasso, Odilon Redon, Georges Rouault, Kurt Schwitters, Chaim Soutine, Nicolas de Stael, Saul Steinberg, Antoni Tapies, Jean Tinguely y Andy Warhol.Más información de este acto
