He is a descendant of Costa Rican and West-Indian parents. Robert is the second youngest of four children. Robert established his career based on his creative talents. He developed his passion for multi-disciplinary creativity around the age of five. He held on to his creativity because he was very limited in his physical ability because of his long-term battle with chronic asthma and his encounter with bone cancer at age 21. Robert drew with crayons; built with his beloved Lego and wooden blocks; built go-carts and tree houses of wood; built scale models; supported his father in providing professional photography; and initiated an ongoing livelihood with the trumpet all before his teenage years. He was introduced to architecture by his older sibling and developed a distinct love for architectural design at the age of twelve. His father, (Neil Charles, Sr.), kindled his fire for drawing with excellence. “Pop” Charles purchased Robert's first drafting table shortly after his demonstrated commitment to architecture, drawing, and building. Robert's father continually invested in his career from his youth and procured a large loan that initiated his architectural college training. Robert was educated at Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University where he received both his undergraduate and professional degrees in Architecture. He has received several architectural awards including the distinguished Alpha Roe Chi Medal of Leadership, Service, and Merit, and led design on award-winning projects over his 30-year career. He is a current member of the American Institute of Architects and the lead design architect at LBA Architects. Also, in 1998, Robert established ROC STUDIOS INTERNATIONAL, INC which is his own multi-disciplinary design studio. His studio provides visual arts, creative branding, and professional photography. The following famous architects and artists influence his style of designing buildings and producing graphic works. The architects that inspire Robert are Frank Lloyd Wright, Kenzo Tange, Le Corbusier, Richard Meier, Frank Gehry, Santiago Calatrava, Eliel Saarinen, and Alvar Aalto. Artists like Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso, Paul Cezanne, and Georges Braque inspire Robert's style of producing abstract graphics. Photographers such as Neil Charles, Sr., Ansel Adams, David Eggleston, and a host of others influence Robert's photography. Prominent political officials, doctors, lawyers, architects, business leaders, bishops, pastors, other artists, organizations, churches, and the general public have collected his artworks and photography. Episode No. 574 features curator Emily Braun and artist Mark Steinmetz. With Elizabeth Cowling, Braun is the co-curator of "Cubism and the Trompe L'Oeil Tradition" at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The exhibition considers cubist works by Georges Braque, Juan Gris and Pablo Picasso in the context of the centuries-long trompe l'oeil painting tradition. In addition to dozens of major cubist works, the exhibition includes paintings by Samuel van Hoogstraten, William Harnett, and more. "Cubism" is on view through January 22, 2023. It is accompanied by an outstanding catalogue that was published by the museum. Indiebound and Amazon offer it for $43-50. Steinmetz is included in "Reckonings and Reconstructions: Southern Photography from the Do Good Fund" at the Georgia Museum of Art at the University of Georgia. The Do Good Fund is a Columbus, Ga.-based charity that collects and makes available to museums photography of the American South made from the 1950s to the present. The exhibition, which includes artists such as Jill Frank, Baldwin Lee, Deborah Luster, Gordon Parks, and RaMell Ross. It's at the GMOA through January 8, 2023. Steinmetz also contributed a portfolio titled "Irina & Amelia" to the new, 70th anniversary issue of Aperture magazine. Hàng năm, khoảng 3.000 chai vang đỏ và hồng được ủ từ nho của gần 1.900 gốc, trong đó nhiều gốc trồng năm 1933. Toàn bộ số tiền bán rượu được dành cho các chương trình xã hội của quận 18. Được tổ chức từ 80 năm nay, Hội mùa Thu hoạch là dịp thưởng thức ẩm thực và đắm mình trong không khí hội hè nổi tiếng của Montmartre. Montmartre từng là vùng đất hoang vu với một tu viện được xây vào thế kỷ XII và vài ruộng nho xung quanh. Rồi người ta đến trồng rau, trồng nho, lập làng quanh tu viện. Nét điền dã dần biến mất với quá trình đô thị hóa từ thế kỷ XIX. Một tầng lớp cư dân mới, chủ yếu là người nghèo, trộm cắp, công nhân và cả những nghệ sĩ nay đây mai đó, bị đẩy khỏi quá trình đô thị hóa Paris theo kế hoạch của kiến trúc sư Haussmann, đến sống ở rìa làng, hình thành khu ổ chuột (maquis de Montmartre), không điện, không nước với những căn nhà lụp xụp xen giữa thảm thực vật hoang dại. Từ khu ổ chuột thành “mồi” cho giới bất động sản Chính quyền cũng quay lưng với những “thành phần không một xu dính túi”, ít nhất cho đến cuối thế kỷ XIX. Vào Thời kỳ Tươi đẹp (Belle Epoque, 1871-1880), những vùng trên cao ở Paris trở thành khu vực giải trí sành điệu. Làng Montmartre lột xác. Các quán rượu mọc lên ầm ầm, thu hút giới tinh hoa Paris và những nghệ sĩ nổi tiếng đương thời. Đất ở Montmartre lên giá. Ngôi làng trở trành miếng mồi cho giới thầu xây dựng. Người dân nghèo bị đuổi khỏi khu ổ chuột, đôi khi không được tái định cư. Ngoài ra, còn có lịch sử của tu viện Montmartre, cùng với những cánh đồng nho gắn liền với lịch sử của khu đồi. Ngoài ra, bảo tàng còn có rất nhiều tấm áp-phích do các nghệ sĩ lúc đó thực hiện, đồ sứ Clignancourt sang trọng, cũng như những đồ vật mang tính dân gian cho thấy nét đặc biệt của khu phố. Khách tham quan có thể xem kịch bóng được tái dựng ở phòng trưng bày Chat Noir. Đây là khu trưng bày hiếm có, nơi người xem như hòa mình vào khung cảnh huyên náo, nhộn nhịp của khu phố và tiệm hát huyền thoại do Rodolphe Salis thành lập”. Một bên là tâm linh, bên kia là trần tục, nhộn nhạo với những hàng cà phê, quán rượu trong thập niên 1880. “Nét đặc trưng của khu phố được truyền tải qua những quán rượu, cà phê mọc trên đồi Montmartre từ năm 1888. Thực ra, rất nhiều nghệ sĩ đã đến Montmartre vào khoảng thập niên 1870, sau đó, họ thường xuyên lui tới những quán cà phê, ngày càng đông hơn ở trên đồi, đặc biệt phải kể đến quán Café du Chat noir (Cà phê Mèo Đen), rất nổi tiếng, rất đông khách và thường chiếu kịch bóng. Tất cả được chúng tôi trưng bày trong phòng triển lãm Mèo Đen. Ngoài ra, còn có nhiều diễn viên sân khấu, cũng như những anh hề của Gánh xiếc Medrano nổi tiếng, được nhiều nghệ sĩ tái hiện trong tác phẩm của họ. Trong bảo tàng, khách tham quan có thể thấy tấm áp-phích rất đẹp của họa sĩ Toulouse-Lautrec quảng cáo buổi diễn mỗi tối của Aristide Bruant ở quán rượu-cà phê Mirliton, hoặc về Jane Avril và Yvette Guilbert, hai vũ nữ rất nổi tiếng”. Cái nôi của nghệ thuật, nơi giao lưu của văn nghệ sĩ Montmartre trở thành trung tâm của thủ đô nghệ thuật Paris vào đầu thế kỷ XX. Chính tại khu phố thời thượng này, Bateau-Lavoir, một trong những nơi cư trú nổi tiếng của các nghệ sĩ đã ra đời. Dãy nhà cấp bốn, ban đầu là phòng khiêu vũ, sau đó là xưởng làm đàn piano, được ngăn dọc thành khoảng 20 xưởng vẽ nhỏ, làm liên tưởng đến hành lang trên boong tầu nên được nhà thơ Max Jacob đặt tên là Bateau-Lavoir. Lúc đầu, đây chỉ là nơi lưu trú của các nghệ sĩ Ý và Tây Ban Nha, dần dần Bateau-Lavoir trở thành nơi giao lưu của giới văn-nghệ sĩ. Guillaume Apollinaire, Amedeo Modigliani, Henri Matisse, Georges Braque, Jean Cocteau… từng sống trong “ngôi nhà chung”. Bateau-Lavoir trở thành “Villa Medicis của hội họa hiện đại”, nơi danh họa Picasso gặp người bạn đời, người mẫu Fernande Olivier. “Tại khu Bateau-Lavoir, Picasso vẽ bức Les Demoiselles d'Avignon (Những cô gái ở Avignon). Đó cũng là nơi sáng tác của Kees Van Dongen, Othon Friesz, Juan Gris và nhiều nghệ sĩ khác. Các nghệ sĩ tiên phong trong khu phố đã thực sự ganh đua với nhau vào thời đó. Rất nhiều tác phẩm của những nghệ sĩ đã sống trong bảo tàng cũng được trưng bày, như Suzanne Valadon, Maurice Utrillo và André Utter. Trước khi trở thành bảo tàng hiện nay, khu nhà này có những xưởng vẽ, rất nhiều nghệ sĩ đã sống ở đây, trong đó có Raoul Dufy, Othon Friesz, Charles Camoin, Émile Bernard”. Từ khu vườn của bảo tàng có thể nhìn xuống ruộng nho duy nhất Clos-Montmartre, chếch xa hơn một chút là quán rượu Lapin Agile, được coi là “ngôi đền” của giới nghệ sĩ và người thích hát. Họa sĩ biếm họa André Gill vẽ biển hiệu cho quán rượu là một chú thỏ đang nhảy ra khỏi nồi. Từ đó, người ta gọi là Chú thỏ của Gill (le Lapin à Gil), sau được lái thành Chú thỏ nhanh nhẹn (le Lapin Agile) và giữ cho đến nay. Bà Saskia Ooms nhận xét : “Montmartre là một trong những khu phố hiếm hoi vẫn giữ được nét quyến rũ đặc biệt. Phần lớn khu phố vẫn như xưa. Người ta vẫn thấy những địa điểm nổi tiếng như nhà hàng Lapin Agile, Lâu đài Sương mù (Château des Brouillards), Ngôi nhà mầu hồng (Maison Rose), Cối xa gió đỏ (Moulin Rouge), nghĩa trang Saint-Vincent tạo nên nét quyến rũ, cổ kính và rất độc đáo cho khu phố”.  Làng trong phố Hầu hết những địa điểm được bà Saskia Ooms nhắc đến đều nằm quanh khu phố Abreuvoir, hiện là điểm “check-in” không thể bỏ qua của du khách. Đầu phố là nhà hàng Maison rose (Ngôi nhà mầu hồng) nổi tiếng, được xây vào khoảng năm 1850, sau đó bị bỏ hoang, rồi được Laure Gargallo, người mẫu cho Picasso, mua lại và sơn hồng để làm quán ăn nhỏ cho những người bạn nghệ sĩ. Giữa phố Abreuvoir là tượng ca sĩ Dalida, ngay cạnh Lâu đài Sương mù với những câu chuyện ma chưa có lời giải. Có lẽ nhờ một số người dân chống cưỡng chế để đô thị hóa Montmartre vào đầu thế kỷ XX mà khu phố vẫn giữ được nét nông thôn điểm xuyết trong cảnh quan đã thay đổi. Họ buộc phải rời đi vào những năm 1940 do tình trạng nhà xuống cấp. Montmartre có khoảng 15 cối xay gió được xây từ năm 1591 đến 1741 và hiện còn lại hai, được trùng tu, nằm ở phố Lepic. Nổi tiếng nhất và ở trên cao nhất là cối xay gió Blute-fin nằm trong khu nhà riêng nên chỉ có thể nhìn từ ngoài đường. Radet, cối xay gió còn lại thứ hai, được di chuyển đến vị trí hiện nay từ thế kỷ XIX để làm quán rượu và hiện là nhà hàng Moulin de la Galette. Riêng Moulin Rouge (Cối xay gió đỏ), quán rượu nổi tiếng với vũ điệu Cancan, được Joseph Oller và Charles Zidler cho xây năm 1889 làm tụ điểm giải trí. Quá trình phát triển của Montmartre và Moulin Rouge gắn chặt nhau suốt thế kỷ XX và được tái hiện trong bảo tàng : “Bảo tàng dành riêng một gian trưng bày về quán rượu Moulin Rouge nổi tiếng với một đoạn trích trong phim French Cancan (Điệu nhảy cancan của Pháp) của Jean Renoir. Ngoài ra còn có rất nhiều ảnh của những vũ nữ nổi tiếng. Họ có bưu thiếp riêng, in hình họ, để bán hoặc tặng cho người hâm mộ vì đó cũng là những nghệ sĩ tài hoa, quyến rũ. Bên cạnh đó còn có Quảng trường Pigalle. Còn trong tấm áp-phích của Toulouse-Lautrec, có thể thấy Cối xay gió Đỏ (Moulin Rouge)”. Ngoài những điểm quá nổi tiếng, như Nhà thờ Thánh Tâm Sacré-Coeur, nhà thờ Saint-Pierre, Quảng trường Tertre với những quán cà phê và họa sĩ dạo dưới bóng cây tiêu huyền, bà Saskia Ooms gợi ý một số điểm quyến rũ nhưng không đông người : “Trước tiên là khu vườn của bảo tàng Montmartre, được coi là chốn thanh bình, rất hiếm ở Paris và rất đặc biệt nhờ quán Café Renoir, nơi khách tham quan có thể nhâm nhi từng khoảnh khắc hạnh phúc.  Tiếp theo là khu phố Abbesse, rất quyến rũ với quảng trường cùng tên và nhà thờ tuyệt đẹp ngay cạnh. Rồi còn có những con ngõ, con phố nhỏ, như phố Chevalier de la Barre, phố Lepic, công viên Marcel Bleustein-Blanchet ở ngay sau Nhà thờ Thánh Tâm, vườn hoa Clignancourt, hay vườn hoa Suzanne Buisson ẩn mình giữa đại lộ Genet và phố Simon Dereure. Tất cả cho thấy vẻ đẹp tuyệt vời của Montmartre. Du khách có thể cảm nhận được không khí hư ảo trong khu phố tuyệt vời này”.

Ngoài ra, còn có nhiều diễn viên sân khấu, cũng như những anh hề của Gánh xiếc Medrano nổi tiếng, được nhiều nghệ sĩ tái hiện trong tác phẩm của họ. Trong bảo tàng, khách tham quan có thể thấy tấm áp-phích rất đẹp của họa sĩ Toulouse-Lautrec quảng cáo buổi diễn mỗi tối của Aristide Bruant ở quán rượu-cà phê Mirliton, hoặc về Jane Avril và Yvette Guilbert, hai vũ nữ rất nổi tiếng”. Lúc đầu, đây chỉ là nơi lưu trú của các nghệ sĩ Ý và Tây Ban Nha, dần dần Bateau-Lavoir trở thành nơi giao lưu của giới văn-nghệ sĩ. Guillaume Apollinaire, Amedeo Modigliani, Henri Matisse, Georges Braque, Jean Cocteau… từng sống trong “ngôi nhà chung”. Bateau-Lavoir trở thành “Villa Medicis của hội họa hiện đại”, nơi danh họa Picasso gặp người bạn đời, người mẫu Fernande Olivier. “Tại khu Bateau-Lavoir, Picasso vẽ bức Les Demoiselles d'Avignon (Những cô gái ở Avignon). Đó cũng là nơi sáng tác của Kees Van Dongen, Othon Friesz, Juan Gris và nhiều nghệ sĩ khác. Các nghệ sĩ tiên phong trong khu phố đã thực sự ganh đua với nhau vào thời đó. Rất nhiều tác phẩm của những nghệ sĩ đã sống trong bảo tàng cũng được trưng bày, như Suzanne Valadon, Maurice Utrillo và André Utter. Từ khu vườn của bảo tàng có thể nhìn xuống ruộng nho duy nhất Clos-Montmartre, chếch xa hơn một chút là quán rượu Lapin Agile, được coi là “ngôi đền” của giới nghệ sĩ và người thích hát. Người ta vẫn thấy những địa điểm nổi tiếng như nhà hàng Lapin Agile, Lâu đài Sương mù (Château des Brouillards), Ngôi nhà mầu hồng (Maison Rose), Cối xa gió đỏ (Moulin Rouge), nghĩa trang Saint-Vincent tạo nên nét quyến rũ, cổ kính và rất độc đáo cho khu phố”.  Làng trong phố Hầu hết những địa điểm được bà Saskia Ooms nhắc đến đều nằm quanh khu phố Abreuvoir, hiện là điểm “check-in” không thể bỏ qua của du khách. Đầu phố là nhà hàng Maison rose (Ngôi nhà mầu hồng) nổi tiếng, được xây vào khoảng năm 1850, sau đó bị bỏ hoang, rồi được Laure Gargallo, người mẫu cho Picasso, mua lại và sơn hồng để làm quán ăn nhỏ cho những người bạn nghệ sĩ. Giữa phố Abreuvoir là tượng ca sĩ Dalida, ngay cạnh Lâu đài Sương mù với những câu chuyện ma chưa có lời giải. Có lẽ nhờ một số người dân chống cưỡng chế để đô thị hóa Montmartre vào đầu thế kỷ XX mà khu phố vẫn giữ được nét nông thôn điểm xuyết trong cảnh quan đã thay đổi. Họ buộc phải rời đi vào những năm 1940 do tình trạng nhà xuống cấp. Montmartre có khoảng 15 cối xay gió được xây từ năm 1591 đến 1741 và hiện còn lại hai, được trùng tu, nằm ở phố Lepic. Nổi tiếng nhất và ở trên cao nhất là cối xay gió Blute-fin nằm trong khu nhà riêng nên chỉ có thể nhìn từ ngoài đường. Radet, cối xay gió còn lại thứ hai, được di chuyển đến vị trí hiện nay từ thế kỷ XIX để làm quán rượu và hiện là nhà hàng Moulin de la Galette. Riêng Moulin Rouge (Cối xay gió đỏ), quán rượu nổi tiếng với vũ điệu Cancan, được Joseph Oller và Charles Zidler cho xây năm 1889 làm tụ điểm giải trí. Quá trình phát triển của Montmartre và Moulin Rouge gắn chặt nhau suốt thế kỷ XX và được tái hiện trong bảo tàng : “Bảo tàng dành riêng một gian trưng bày về quán rượu Moulin Rouge nổi tiếng với một đoạn trích trong phim French Cancan (Điệu nhảy cancan của Pháp) của Jean Renoir. Ngoài ra còn có rất nhiều ảnh của những vũ nữ nổi tiếng. Họ có bưu thiếp riêng, in hình họ, để bán hoặc tặng cho người hâm mộ vì đó cũng là những nghệ sĩ tài hoa, quyến rũ. Bên cạnh đó còn có Quảng trường Pigalle. Còn trong tấm áp-phích của Toulouse-Lautrec, có thể thấy Cối xay gió Đỏ (Moulin Rouge)”. Ngoài những điểm quá nổi tiếng, như Nhà thờ Thánh Tâm Sacré-Coeur, nhà thờ Saint-Pierre, Quảng trường Tertre với những quán cà phê và họa sĩ dạo dưới bóng cây tiêu huyền, bà Saskia Ooms gợi ý một số điểm quyến rũ nhưng không đông người : “Trước tiên là khu vườn của bảo tàng Montmartre, được coi là chốn thanh bình, rất hiếm ở Paris và rất đặc biệt nhờ quán Café Renoir, nơi khách tham quan có thể nhâm nhi từng khoảnh khắc hạnh phúc.  Tiếp theo là khu phố Abbesse, rất quyến rũ với quảng trường cùng tên và nhà thờ tuyệt đẹp ngay cạnh. Tom, Sheila, and Peter discuss the dark side of Picasso's life, and give an introduction to his innovations in art, and how the revelations of Picasso's treatment of women might influence our understanding of his art. Along the way,we touch on Georges Braque,  Jackson Pollock, and Willem de Kooning.

O estilista francês Yves Saint Laurent, morto em 2008, é homenageado simultaneamente por seis museus parisienses, entre eles Louvre e Orsay. O evento, que marca os 60 anos do primeiro desfile de um dos principais nomes da moda mundial, mostra sua relação com o mundo das artes e as diferentes inspirações que atravessaram a sua trajetória. Silvano Mendes, de Paris Saint Laurent dizia que os vestidos eram a coisa mais importante de sua vida. Mas a existência do estilista era marcada também por sua paixão pelas artes, que colecionava compulsivamente junto com seu companheiro Pierre Bergé, e que o inspirava em suas criações. Todo fã de moda que se preza conhece, por exemplo, o vestido Mondrian, que o costureiro criou em 1965 em homenagem ao pintor holandês, que reproduz em uma peça, de aparência simples mas de construção complexa, as linhas e retângulos da famosa série de quadros. O vestido e a tela estão expostos juntos nesse momento no Centro Georges Pompidou, o Beaubourg, o mesmo prédio onde Saint Laurent fez seu desfile de despedida, em 2002, diante da atriz Catherine Deneuve que cantava, emocionada. Esse novo bate-papo entre o estilista e Mondrian faz parte da exposição Saint Laurent aux Musées (Saint Laurent nos Museus), que começou no final de janeiro e vai até 15 de maio. O evento foi montado como uma espécie de peregrinação em seis museus parisienses, que se uniram pela primeira vez para celebrar, simultaneamente, o trabalho de um estilista. Além do Beaubourg, participam da mostra o Museu do Louvre, o Museu d'Orsay, e o Museu Picasso, além do Museu de Arte Moderna e o próprio museu Yves Saint Laurent. “A ideia do projeto era criar um formato de exposição original, diferente das demais mostras que já foram realizadas sobre o trabalho de Yves Saint Laurent. Em vez de fazer uma mostra temporária em apenas um lugar, decidimos criar ‘marcos' dentro das coleções permanentes de diferentes museus”, explica Mouna Mokouar, uma das comissárias do evento. Segundo ela, isso só foi possível por causa da maneira como o estilista trabalhava. “Saint Laurent se inspirava muito de artistas de sua época, como Andy Warhol, Tom Wesselmann, ou ainda Roy Lichtenstein, mas também artistas modernos, como Fernand Léger, Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque ou Henri Matisse, ou ainda de artistas ou períodos anteriores, como o século 18 francês, o Renascimento italiano ou a pintura espanhola do século 17. Ele também olhou muito para a arte africana”, enumera a curadora. O diálogo entre as criações de Saint Laurent e as obras dos museus às vezes é sutil, como quando o Museu d'Orsay explora a relação de Saint Laurent com Marcel Proust e “Em Busca do tempo Perdido”, livro de cabeceira do estilista. Outras composições lembram a destreza com que Saint Laurent brincava com as cores, como os looks instalados na frente do painel "A Fada Eletricidade", de Raoul Dufy, em uma das salas mais impressionantes do Museu de Arte Moderna, com suas paredes côncavas tomadas pela pintura.   Outras vezes, essa conversa visual é evidente, como o vestido colocado diante das Danças de Matisse, também no museu de Arte Moderna. A paleta de cores que parece ter saído do mesmo pincel. “Tem uma osmose perfeita”, resume um visitante, que tirava fotos de todos os ângulos possíveis. Casacos e coroas A “via sacra” da homenagem parisiense a Saint Laurent também cria momentos de magia. Como no Louvre, onde a Galeria de Apolo, que expõe as coleções do rei Louis XIV, acolhe algumas peças do costureiro e confunde o público. Hipnotizados pelo brilho das joias da coroa e desatentos às etiquetas, os visitantes, adultos e crianças, nem sempre percebem ao admirar um casaco bordado em pedrarias que se trata de uma peça de alta-costura datando dos anos 1980 e não dos pertences de um monarca. “É fabuloso!”, se extasia uma turista norte-americana diante do casaco. “Todos esses bordados são tão belos. O que torna tudo isso tão especial é a maneira como essas peças estão expostas, pois podemos ver os detalhes no casaco tendo o Louvre como pano de fundo”, diz, quase aos prantos. “Quiseram mostrar o lado artístico das roupas”, lança um brasileiro, que visitava a Louvre pela primeira vez. Com uma certa inocência, o turista levanta um dos pontos centrais desse projeto: "será que moda é arte?" As fronteiras são cada vez mais difíceis de delimitar e muitos preferem decretar, sem medo do trocadilho, que esse é um debate meio démodé (fora de moda). Aliás, quando questionado sobre o assunto, Pierre Bergé, o companheiro de Saint Laurent, sempre dizia que moda não é arte, mas precisa de artistas para existir. Boa definição. É exatamente isso que os visitantes podem ver nos seis museus parisienses que homenageiam o mestre das passarelas: a expressão do trabalho de um artista.

Marie Laurencin is known for her lovely pastel dreamy paintings but she was also able to do something few female artists were able to do. Marie was accepted into the folds of the biggest artists of the time and held her own. Born on October 31, 1883 she showed very early, against her mothers wishes, a talent for art. At 18 she enrolled in the porcelain painting school at Sévres, much like Renoir started. The next year she joined the Humbert Academy and met fellow artists Georges Braque and Francis Picabia who led her into the art circles of Paris.  Gallery owner Clovis Sagot on Rue Laffitte gave Marie her first exhibition where she would meet Picasso, Delauney, Rousseau, Max Jacobs. and poet Guillaume Apollinaire. Marie inspired the struggling writer and served as his muse over their six year relationship. Her first painting she ever sold featured the poet surrounded by his friends, Picasso, Fernande Olivier, Stein, Gillot and Cremnitz and was purchased by Gertrude Stein. Spending a brief period in the Cubist and Fauvist movement she later named her style “nymphism”. Staying close to what she liked she used her favorite colors, pink, grey, blue and white and predominantly painted women and girls. As a child she would keep beads and ribbons in her pocket, always gravitating to pretty things. In the 20's & 30's she was commissioned to paint portraits of the Paris elite which she didn't like. Instead of painting them how they wanted to be seen, she painted them as she saw them. Chanel asked her to paint her and when it was complete she refused to pay her for it. As one that controlled her story and her image that was always seen through a filter she didn't like the stern look on her face. The painting would end up in the collection of Paul Guillaume and hanging in the Musée de l'Orangerie today. Marie's life story is greatly overshadowed by her many relationships but her art should never be forgotten. Lo prometido es deuda. Contra viento y marea finalmente estamos de vuelta. En esta ocasión arrancamos nueva temporada con el encargo de uno de nuestros oyentes. Concretamente el del ganador del concurso de los 1500 subscriptores, David Durán que nos propuso comenzar con un episodio dedicado a Pablo Ruiz Picasso. Su nombre completo Pablo Diego José Francisco de Paula Juan Nepomuceno María de los Remedios Cipriano de la Santísima Trinidad Mártir Patricio Clito Ruiz y Picasso, comúnmente conocido como Pablo Picasso. Originario de Málaga del 25 de octubre de 1881, artista sobresaliente en el campo de la pintura y escultura española. Conjuntamente con el también artista Georges Braque, fue creador del cubismo como expresión artística y contemporánea del siglo XX. Desde en inicio de ese siglo, se le atribuye la propagación e influencia en los movimientos artísticos de su época. Las obras de Pablo Picasso abordaron el dibujo, los grabados y la ilustración de textos, la escultura, la cerámica y el diseño de escenarios y vestuarios de obras teatrales, que protagonizan grandes exposiciones de museos y colecciones de Europa y el mundo. En lo político, Picasso se declaraba pacifista y comunista. Fue miembro del Partido Comunista de España y del Partido Comunista Francés hasta su muerte. Falleció el 8 de abril de 1973, con 91 años de edad, en su hogar de Notre-Dame-de-Vie, en Francia, Mougins y sus restos descansan en el parque del Castillo Vauvenargues. Su obra inmensa en número, variedad y en talento se extiende a lo largo de más de setenta y cinco años de actividad creadora, que el pintor compaginó con el amor, la política, la amistad y un exultante y contagioso goce de la vida. The gatherings in the Stein home on Saturday evenings brought together confluences of talent and thinking that would help define modernism in literature and art. According to Gertrude Stein, the gatherings began by accident when, “more and more frequently, people began visiting to see the Matisse paintings—and the Cézannes. Matisse brought people, everybody brought somebody, and they came at any time and it began to be a nuisance, and it was in this way that Saturday evenings began.” (Interestingly, that's also why Pennie Williams launched Wizard Academy.)
