Very Jerry Mitchell... Jerry Mitchell and Michelle Zeitlin shared their memories of working with the legendary Michael Bennett and Bob Avian, on SCANDAL, a Broadway workshop with an outstanding group of stars and triple threats. Jerry was assisting the show creator, Michael Bennett at the original auditions, where Michelle was amongst over two thousand dancer-singers auditioning for a few coveted ensemble roles for this ground-breaking musical, at 890 Studios. Jerry was an assistant and skeleton crew dancer on that production, which led to so many other amazing productions including FOLLIES and CHESS. He also worked with Jerome Robbins on JEROME ROBBINS BROADWAY. And then...he became a choreographer in his own right. Now wearing the title of Director-Choreographer, he is most proud of BROADWAY BARES, and he was honored this year with the 2023 Isabelle Stevenson Tony Award for his work on a modern day burlesque show that has raised millions of dollars for Equity Fights Aids. @jammyprod on Instagram For more on Michelle Zeitlin, CEO of More Zap Productions & Management, please see http://www.passion-power.com http://www.morezap.com

June is always a busy time for New York City with two major events taking place: one is of course the month-long Gay Pride celebration and the other is the biggest day of the Broadway season -- the Tony Awards. And today's guest ticks off both of those boxes. Jerry Mitchell is a prolific Broadway Director and choreographer as well as a gay advocate with shows like Broadway Bares and Kinky Boots, just to name a few. He is also an eight-time Tony nominee, but he is quick to point out that he's lost out on the award six times. In our conversation, he discusses his creative career, full of fascinating anecdotes, and shares the importance of knowing our worth as artists, loving what we do on and off stage, and the value in saying "yes." The in-person event is set to return this month and will more bodacious dancers, fierce queens, and sexy starlets. Broadway Bares was created in 1992 by Mitchell, then a Broadway dancer, as a way to raise awareness and money for those living with HIV/AIDS. In Broadway Bares‘ first year, Mitchell and six of his friends danced on a New York City bar and raised $8,000. Since then, Broadway Bares has raised more than $21 million for Broadway Cares. “Every dollar donated during Broadway Bares helps those across the country affected by HIV/AIDS, COVID-19 and other critical illnesses receive healthy meals, lifesaving medication and more,” Broadway Cares Executive Director Tom Viola said, referring to last year's online presentation. “As we look toward better and brighter days ahead for everyone, I'm so glad that everyone chose to twerk from home with us.”   Final Five with Jerry Mitchell Nine years ago, Jerry Mitchell received the Abbott Award, a lifetime achievement award from the Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation. The award is named in honor of renowned director George Abbott and is presented to a director or choreographer in recognition of lifetime achievement. That same year he was also nominated for two Tony Awards for choreography and direction in Kinky Boots. Welcome back to BeREAL! Diana and Ednesha come together for their final episode of the season to look back at all their favorite BeREAL 2021 Memories.   Diana starts off by telling her favorite episode, which is episode 59 with Vanessa Risetto. Diana really appreciated her views on diet culture and her holistic nutrition approach. Ednesha's favorite was with Riana Milne. Riana spoke about love trauma. She outlined the top ten childhood traumas and spoke on addition and abuse within families. Don chimes in to tell Jess' favorite episode which was with Dr. Carlton Green. She appreciated the way he bridged education, psychology, and religion. Diana adds on that she enjoyed how passionate and compassionate he was on the subject.    Diana's next favorite episode was with Michael Lee Scott. Michael came to celebrate Pride Month and talk about the work he does with Broadway Cares and Broadway Bares. Jess also really loved this episode because of her connection to the theatre world through her dance past.    Another one of Diana's favorites was with Michelle Kuei. Diana liked this episode because it highlighted how different she and Ednesha are. Ednesha was not there that day and Diana came completely unprepared. When Michelle began telling her amazing story, Diana was fascinated because she hadn't done her research. Despite the lack of preparation, everything still turned out nicely. Another one of Ednesha's favorites was with Melody Pourmoradi the founder of GiRLLiFE. Ednesha appreciated was Melody had to say about empowering woman, but also about empowering yourself. She resonated with Melody's message to know what your services are worth.    Lastly, Jess's third favorite episode was her own episode in the “My First Time” series. She enjoyed promoting therapy to everyone. Diana and Ednesha join in to talk about how much they enjoyed the series as a whole because they heard a variety of reasons why people come to therapy for the first time.    Thank you so much for tuning into BeREAL this year and we hope you have your own favorite 2021 memories with us! These kept with him throughout his career when he ventured into musical theatre.    Next, he talks about his career in recent years and his interpretation of the creative process. He highlights why it is important for artists to carry through with their work. He explains that even though in the middle of a project, you might think it looks terrible, it will come together in the end. (1999) and his stint as a regular on "Hollywood Squares" (1998- ), for which he also serves as head writer. Known for his eclectic eyewear and collection of unique T-shirts, he began as a child model for Lane Bryant, but when his initial efforts as an actor came to naught, he became an entertainment writer for the Chicago Tribune instead. Impressed by his review of her cabaret performance in 1970, Bette Midler hired him to punch up her act, and he later moved to Los Angeles where he wrote for variety shows like the original "Donny and Marie" and "The Brady Bunch Hour" (both ABC) and provided material for Richard Pryor, Lily Tomlin and Joan Rivers. He has maintained his connection with Midler through the years, working on such projects as the feature "Divine Madness" (1980) and the TV special "Bette Midler--Diva Las Vegas" (HBO, 1997), as well as writing for her sitcom "Bette!" (CBS, 2000- ). Vilanch began contributing to Academy Awards telecasts in 1989, collaborating with the likes of Billy Crystal, Whoopi Goldberg and David Letterman, and graduated to head writer in 2000. The Whoopi connection led to his providing the notorious material Ted Danson performed in blackface at a certain 1993 Friars Club roast of his then-girlfriend Goldberg, but his resume also includes "You Made Me Watch You", the touching Emmy-winning valedictory Midler crooned as a send-off to Johnny Carson. He made his feature debut as a dress manufacturer in "Mahogany' (1975), starring Diana Ross (to whose act he also contributed), and put his Muppet-like persona to excellent use as Santa's number one helper in the syndicated TV-movie "It Nearly Wasn't Christmas" (1989). On the heels of "Get Bruce!", Vilanch performed his comedy stylings Off-Broadway in "Bruce Vilanch: Almost Famous" (2000).

We get to learn about the incredible audition process he went through, and how all of the Disney team gave him the “freedom to fail.” Alfie is an incredibly hard working artist, who is no stranger to set backs and disappointments, but it is his faith in God, and his positive outlook that defines him. He believes God has given him the “gift of hope” that pushes him to keep moving forward. Alfie talks about how the setbacks of not getting accepted into any musical theatre programs, and the layoffs from different shows have actually opened other doors that have made him stronger. The boys are back and they've got stories to tell about a boys-gone-wild weekend in your Capital City (that Scott missed). Plus, they explain why redheads need not try to make a deposit at their local neighborhood sperm back; Scott's childhood friend has a dream about Steven J. Walker; NPH gets his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame; "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" is now officially a thing of the past (or is it?); New Hampshire is considering 86-ing same-sex marriage (those fat heads); The Emmys entertained; breaking down LMAFO's new video; and, Gaga tweets her love. And from New York City, our trusty correspondent Justin Luke sits down for something really unique: If you guys like Broadway you'll get a kick out of his self-described "theater-faggish" chat with one of the stars of the smash hit musical, "The Addams Family," STEPHANIE GIBSON. She gives you all the backstage dirt including, what life is like as the understudy to a lead; which days and times are better than others when it comes to catching a Broadway show; how she bared it all for "Broadway Bares," and, she talks about her insanely cute & talented husband Will Chase (Broadway's "Rent" and NBC's upcoming "Smash"), too. (Our chat with Stephanie kicks in at the 33:30 mark.) After that, we have a silly new segment to try out on ya..."What Would Steve Do?" Curious to know what Steven J. Walker would take to a deserted island? Would he chose between his penis or his arms & legs? And what would he (or wouldn't he) whisper in your ear to get you into bed? Stick around to find out! All that silliness and out pop singer AIDEN LESLIE's new single, "Trying to Leave Now," too. It's catchy. Episode 152 is called, "Redheads Need Not Apply," in honor of the fact that sperm banks are no longer accepting the jizz of redheads. Sorry, Dale.
