Nearly every Stanley Kubrick film has been featured on Have You Ever Seen now that we're spending about an hour reviewing Barry Lyndon. In this 663rd episode, we analyze the gold-digging, underwhelming dueler played by Ryan O'Neal, an Irish soldier (turned gambler) who also turns out to be a terrible stepfather. Even though he's good as the opportunistic Redmond Barry, he's outshone by Patrick Magee, Steven Berkoff and particularly Leon Vitali as his lordly stepson. Barry Lyndon is one of the best-looking movies of 'em all, so it appropriately won Oscars for the look and the design. The pace is deliberate and the story is a very blow burn in this episodic epic. So enjoy Cinco de Mayo by hearing us throw it back and forth about these ordinary people in extraordinary times as we play some games of chance with Barry Lyndon. Jackie and Greg don their powdered wigs and dueling pistols for Stanley Kubrick's BARRY LYNDON from 1975. Topics of discussion include the film's origins as a Napoleon biopic, the lead performance from Ryan O'Neal, how its reputation has grown over the years, and why the public discourse needs to evolve beyond the look of the film (which, we agree, is stunning).#59 on Sight & Sound's 2012 "The 100 Greatest Films of All Time" list.https://www.bfi.org.uk/sight-and-sound/polls/greatest-films-all-time-2012#45 on Sight & Sound's 2022 "The Greatest Films of All Time" list.  https://www.bfi.org.uk/sight-and-sound/greatest-films-all-timeCheck us out on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sceneandheardpodCheck us out at our official website: https://www.sceneandheardpod.comJoin our weekly film club: https://www.instagram.com/arroyofilmclubJP Instagram/Twitter: jacpostajGK Instagram: gkleinschmidtGraphic Design: Molly PintoMusic: Andrew CoxEditing: Greg KleinschmidtGet in touch at hello@sceneandheardpod.comSend us a Text Message.Support the Show.Support the show on Patreon: patreon.com/SceneandHeardPodorSubscribe just to get access to our bonus episodes: buzzsprout.com/1905508/subscribe

It's ASSHOLES ON FILM month and should it be a surprise that a month full of main character assholes are also some very beloved and well regarded movies? We finally catch up to watching one of Lord Stanley's films and it also happens be Bob's favorite of his movies. Those interested in such things are well aware and much has been said of it over the years. We discuss one of our favorite movie assholes ever in Stanley Kubrick's 1975 masterpiece, “Barry Lyndon” starring Ryan O'Neal, Marisa Berenson, Leon Vitali and many more. How did the typical small town Irish boy find himself amongst the pomp of nobility and how did it all fall apart? Iconic shots, perfectly patient, revolutionary lighting, amazing costuming, art inspired and hilariously vacant in expression. Except for that one sniveling boy lord. What more can be said on it? You have tuned into Divulgence with Jordan Vezeau, and I am OH so grateful for this fact. After great demand, here it is; the final chapter in our scene-by-scene analysis of the great Stanley Kubrick's ‘Eyes Wide Shut'! I am joined again by Sean McCann who breaks down more of the masterpiece for me, all the way to that wonderful four-letter word that we all love so much.  Along the way, we also dive into, and revisit, topics such as Ishtar, the elite – and their misdeeds of kidnapping, paedophilia, and tendencies to lie, cheat and steal - Xs that signify impending death, FDR, Bob Hope and Vietnam USO shows, Bill Graham and Uncle Bobo, trauma-based mind control, Laurel Canyon and David McGowan, Freemasonry and the Knights Templar, and blue and red. We divulge different things that were picked up during that instance of viewing the frames, even after many prior viewings (which is part of the magic that Kubrick has left for us) and we reflect on and contemplate what Helena's final fate truly is, and the list of possible – yet certain – dooms that she will accept. Shout-out to Mr. Leon Vitali who recently passed – RIP. Leon was a legend in his own trade and by his own mark - as the right hand to the master for so many years, as well as his voice for many recent years, we owe him so much, and so much to him is rightfully due. ** ALL support is much appreciated, in any shape or form. Episode 32 : Welcome to 2020, and in this episode, we speak with actors Leon Vitali and David Morley. We have something truly special in store for you with this episode. Forty-five years ago a couple of young and very gifted actors were recruited by Stanley Kubrick to play two very essential characters in his masterful 1975 film, Barry Lyndon.  We're referring of course to Leon Vitali and David Morley, who played step-brothers, Lord Bullingdon and Bryan Lyndon. You’re going to hear a surprise call to Leon and David, which we managed to keep a secret prior to the day it took place in early January 2020.  Neither of them have seen or spoken with each other since the filming of Barry Lyndon was completed in 1975, and life for the two young men took them onto their own new paths of adventure. With that all said, we at Kubrick’s Universe invite you, our friends, to please enjoy this: the reunion of Leon Vitali and David Morley. Producent: Emelie Rosenqvist

Episode 17 : Burning Secret with Leon Vitali, Gerald Fried and Nathan Abrams. In this episode, we talk about a recently discovered screenplay on July 15th this year that made the headlines.  This wasn't just any screenplay. It was a script penned by Stanley Kubrick and Paths of Glory co-writer Calder Willingham, over 62 years ago and it had only been discovered when one of Stanley's earliest collaborators, the composer Gerald Fried, brought it to the attention of Kubrick fans the world over. The script is called Burning Secret and it's an adaptation of a 1913 novella by Austrian writer Stefan Zweig, and it tells the story of a young boy who is seduced by a man in order to get to the boys' mother. Thus far there have been three filmed versions of the original novella, the most recent being in 1988. The production was written and directed by Andrew Birkin, and it stars Klaus Maria Brandauer, David Eberts, and the legendary Faye Dunaway. But this particular treatment of the screenplay, by Kubrick and Willingham, was discovered by our friend, Nathan Abrams, a professor in Film Studies at Bangor University, while he was just doing research for his new book about Stanley Kubrick. Earlier in 2018, we had the pleasure of speaking with Stanley Kubrick’s long-time right-hand-man and good friend, Leon Vitali, incidentally, just a few days after this amazing news broke, so obviously we had to ask him for his take on what he knows about the screenplay. Filmworker is an observation on how legends and legendary works are created. The complex, productive and interdependent relationship between Leon Vitali and Stanley Kubrick was founded on devotion, artistic passion, sensibility, sacrifice and the grueling joy of the creative process. It’s a rare person who would give up fame and fortune to toil in obscurity for someone else’s creative vision. Yet, that’s exactly what Leon Vitali did after his acclaimed performance as ‘Lord Bullingdon” in Stanley Kubrick’s Barry Lyndon. On the brink of a successful acting career, the young actor stepped back from the limelight in order to become the right-hand man to perhaps the most influential and ground-breaking filmmaker of his time, Stanley Kubrick. Vitali played a crucial part in the director's career, working tirelessly in close collaboration with Kubrick in helping to make and maintain his extraordinary legacy of work. Vitali's unique working relationship with Kubrick is explored through anecdotes about his candid, funny (and sometimes shocking) experiences with the director, enhanced with a rich variety of previously-unseen archival materials including photos, videos, letters and notebooks from Vitali's personal collection, and brought together through interviews with actors, family, and key film industry professionals who worked with both Kubrick and Vitali. Filmworker. Director Tony Zierra joins us to talk about the creative process, Stanley Kubrick and his closest and most dedicated collaborator, Leon Vitali, who once described his own occupation simply as “Filmworker.” For news and updates go to: kinolorber.com/film/filmworker
