In this enlightening episode of "Potastic Audio," I explore the critical mistakes that new podcasters often make when they attempt to emulate their favorite shows. I began my own podcasting journey in the summer of 2019, initially modeling my approach on traditional radio formats. However, I quickly realized that podcasting demands a unique set of skills and a different approach to content creation. Throughout the episode, I stress the significance of authenticity, understanding audience preferences, and the pursuit of originality in podcasting. I share personal stories and valuable insights from the industry, highlighting how many podcasters fall into the trap of replicating familiar formats without tailoring them to their unique voice or the specific needs of their audience. I provide actionable advice on how to avoid these common pitfalls by learning from the experiences of others, deeply engaging with and understanding one's audience, and embracing one's individuality. This guidance is crucial for creating compelling and original podcast content that truly connects with listeners. This episode serves as an essential resource for both novice and experienced podcasters who are looking to refine their craft and develop distinctive, impactful podcasts that resonate deeply with their target audience. Whether you're just starting out or looking to enhance your existing podcast, these insights will help you create a more engaging and successful show. 00:00:00 - Introduction and Background on Podcasting 00:02:10 - Differences Between Radio and Podcasting 00:04:45 - Personal Experiences and Preferences in Content Consumption 00:07:30 - Influence of Environment on Content Creation 00:10:15 - The Pitfalls of Copying Other Podcasts 00:13:50 - Three Common Mistakes Made by New Podcasters 00:18:20 - Tips for Creating Unique and Authentic Podcast Content 00:22:35 - Understanding and Engaging Your Audience 00:26:10 - Embracing and Utilizing Your Uniqueness in Podcasting 00:29:45 - Conclusion and Final Thoughts on Podcasting Authentically Thanks so much for listening, I really appreciate it so much. The Lazy Girl's Guide to Podcasting: A Podcast about Podcasting and Podcasting Tips
In this episode from a podcast about podcasting, I discuss the common mistakes that new podcasters make. Investing in an expensive microphone does not guarantee high-quality audio content, as it is more about the skills to use the microphone effectively. We'll also talk about how new podcasters often expect overnight success and give up too early when podcasting is a long game that requires patience and consistency.Additionally, I'll tell you why constantly switching editing software based on reviews can be killing your podcast growth. Instead, you need to find what works and stick with it.Finally, we'll talk podcasting tips, focusing on consistency, targeting the right audience, and promoting the podcast on ideal platforms. I'll give you my thoughts on converting podcast content into other forms, such as blog posts and optimising them for SEO to attract more listeners.Highlights: Thinking an expensive microphone guarantees high-quality audio Expecting overnight success, limiting podcasts to a few directories, giving up too early Avoid getting caught up in constantly switching editing software based on reviews Common errors: lack of consistency, not focusing on a target audience, not promoting the podcast on non-ideal platforms Importance of promoting and marketing the podcast effectively Converting podcast content into other forms, like blog posts, for SEO optimization Encouragement for listeners to share their own experiences and mistakes Timestamps: [00:00:00] Intro [00:01:02] Believing you need an expensive microphone [00:01:46] Expecting instant success [00:03:03] Not having your podcast on multiple directories [00:04:23] Giving up before episode 10 [00:05:40] Constantly changing software [00:07:27] Not promoting your podcast [00:09:14] Creating content just for yourself

It's a bit of a data discussion this week, with a few numbers to break down and analyse. Some of this data came via our own sources, whilst others have been the topic of much discussion in the mainstream media recently. Do Spotify layoffs and new podcasts dropping by 80% since 2020 mean podcasting is on the way out? And why do 60% of new podcasters worry about marketing their shows? Also mentioned on this episode: The Trailer Park Podcast, how to make a podcast trailer, 43% of new podcasters plan to go solo, how to run a podcast survey, what's your podcast USP?, Podcast Growth (book), The Podcast Host on YouTube, and The Podcraft Community.

Hey Friend! Have you started your podcast and now wonder how long it'll be until your breakthrough? How long you have to sit in the 'messy middle'? Do you find yourself frustrated or looking around wondering, what am I missing? Do you struggle with staying the course? I remember feeling the same way. That's why I asked my former student and client, Chelsi Jo Moore on the show today. She started coaching and taking my courses roughly 3 years ago. She was dedicated, disciplined, and didn't deviate from the plan. She refused to do more... or less... she committed to the course roadmap. Step-by-step she focused on the next action -- even though she was scared, even though she felt unprepared, even though she wanted to know it would work - she pushed through. 3 short years later, she has an incredible testimony of what hard work partnered with God's hand over her business can produce for the Kingdom of God. So why might this be? Perhaps there's a bit of post-pandemic Zoom fatigue in here where people are fed up with feeling like they are "on a call".
