Cemeteries. Ghosts. They seem to go hand in hand. Yet Haunted Hospitality has recorded almost 100 episodes, and not once have we talked about a Cemetery. So this week, Zoey brings in the new year by visiting the Colonial Park Cemetery and the Bonaventure Cemetery, both in Savannah, GA. The Colonial Park Cemetery is known for shadowy figures that dart between gravestones at night after the park is all closed and for housing a mass grave of Yellow Fever victims. And there may or may not be a 7 foot tall ghost of a child murderer.Bonaventure Cemetery is known for it's beautiful gardens and plant life, and also Little Gracie. Gracie is a ghost that plays in the cemetery and is loved by locals and tourists alike. But first, Robin shares her New Year Non-Resolution and Zoey shares her New Year Goals. Then Robin shares some New Years Traditions from around the world. Sources: https://hauntedhospitality.wordpress.com/2023/01/03/ep-92-two-haunted-cemeteries-in-savannah-ga/Visit us on Social Media! Today we'll discuss the holiday of New Year's (or is it New Year's Eve?...). We'll hit housekeeping for 39 minutes where we discuss a recent episode of "Truther Drama" where a famous truther came gunning for Isaac (amongst other things like Christmas), then we'll talk about New Year's place in the pantheon of holidays- the big 4! Learn more about the Greek tradition of Vasilopita, Auld Lang Syne and more! We'll discuss our resolutions for 2022 and reveal whether or not Dick Clark is dead, and wrap it all up with our favorite New Year's memories (a safe-for-work, yet adult conversation). ***We discuss this on the show at the end, but please PLEASE use Uber, Lyft or whatever it takes to NOT DRIVE DRUNK. Drink responsibly. This is a big deal to us (as we'll talk about at the end of the show- it hit home for us many years ago). Merry Christmas! It's Christmas Eve and so in the European Style, you can open your present from us. We have an incredible guest and I just don't know how we did it! Back in November, we spoke to the Queen of Women's Cricket, Charlotte Edwards. Lottie has so much to her name such as England's then youngest cricketer on her debut, breaking a world scoring record before her 18th birthday, captaining England from 2005, including winning an Ashes series, and world titles in both ODI and T20s. She has previously been ICC Women's Cricketer of the Year, Wisden Cricketer of the Year, and ECB Cricketer of the Year, even being appointed MBE and CBE! Now, she is Head Coach of Southern Vipers in 2020, and has lead them to the first two Rachael Heyhoe Flint Titles and coached Southern Brave to the final of the inaugural Hundred. The women's T20 domestic competition is even named the Charlotte Edwards Cup in her honour. We cannot thank Lottie enough and she was so generous with her time and thoughts. We hope you thoroughly enjoy this episode with the addition of us discussing what you sent in to us for this episode. We would love to hear from you again for our New Years Special next Friday. Please be aware the stories, theories, re-enactments and language in this podcast are of an adult nature and can be disturbing, frightening and in some cases offensive. Listener Discretion is advised – there is very adult content ahead and you have been warned. Welcome heathens welcome to the world of the weird and unexplained. I’m your host, Nicole Delacroix and together, we will be investigating stories about the weird, wonderful, unexplained, eerie, scary and down-right unbelievable. There will be tales of ghosts, murder, supernatural beings and unexplained mysteries. So, sit back, grab your favorite drink, relax and prepare to be transported to today's dark Enigma.... And on today’s Dark enigma we’re winding down the year, so I thought, we’ll make it short and sweet, so everyone can go celebrate the New Year. With that said, we will still be playing our drinking game and as you know, the drinking game is only for those of us that are at home and have nowhere else to go tonight. The choice of libation is up to you, and if you want you can most definitely choose champagne, I personally prefer some bourbon or whiskey, but , you know… choose your venom accordingly… Alright, now for the game part how about every time I say haunting that will be a single shot and every time I say New Year, that will be a double shot. Ok, now that the business end is out of the way we can jump headfirst into today’s dark enigma… and the story of the Berini Hauntings "Where do all the lonely people go? Where do I belong?" These were the words softly uttered to Rose Berini from a little boy dressed in white roaming her upstairs hall. This boy wasn’t one of her two children though asking odd questions, he was not of this world . The poltergeist experiences, later named The Berini Hauntings by paranormal researchers, started shortly after Joe Berini moved his wife and two of her children from a former marriage into his ancestral New England home in the late 1970s. Unbeknownst to the family then, the home had its own history of mystery, which would unfold, benignly at first, then into horrifying experiences that would drive them from their home in search of help. Their first otherworldly visitor was a little girl whose voice penetrated this dimension one evening in May, 1979, and declared to Rose, “Mama, mama, this is Serena.” Neither Joe nor Rose knew of any girl in the family’s past by the name of Serena—at least then. What they did come to know soon enough was that when Serena visited them, something significant was about to happen to the family, usually of dire consequences.
In this episode we put the monsters to bed and discuss New Year's traditions and superstitions. Did you eat your black eyed peas? Make sure you clean and stock up on groceries before New Years Day! Stop being a perfectionist. Stop trying to do everything. Stop worrying about things that are out of your control. Stop beating yourself up for making mistakes. Stop trying to change other people. Stope spending time with people who don’t build you up. For your FAMILY Pick special meals for New Year’s Eve and New Years Day - We do cheese and chocolate fondue for New Year’s Eve and black eye soup with monkey bread for New Year’s Day. Every bowl of black eye soup brings you luck and for you get a piece of monkey bread for every bowl you eat.Janis the dragon - take a sheet of paper and fold it in half and write the previous year on the top of the left side and write the new year on the top of the right side of the sheet of paper. Everyone in the family should have their own sheet. On the left side, you draw all of the things that happened that year (vacations, special events, achievements) and then write all of the things that are going to happen or goals that you have for the new year. Let everyone have about 20 - 30 min. to draw theirs and then share.Do a Year in Review - collect all the photos you’ve taken this year and put the special ones that you love into a folder in iphoto and then set it to music and watch it as a family.Make a “family to do” list for the new year and get many of those items on the calendarPick a theme for your family. If you didn’t do this at the beginning of the school year, this is the perfect time to start. It could be a quote, phrase, scripture, etc.

In Denmark, they craft a towering cake called a kransekage with layers of marzipan. The shape is reminiscent of a cornucopia, promising a new year of success. In Italy, the coin like shape of lentils represent luck and prosperity. And in the Philippines, they hold Media Noche parties with circular fruit – think coins again – and plenty of roast pork. It does seem like every culture has some sort of New Year’s tradition, usually with the intention of good health, happiness or wealth. Maybe it’s just an excuse to eat. On this episode, What does “Happy New Year” look like in other countries? It might be lentils in Europe, baked goods in Scandinavia or something as simple as black-eyed peas in the American South.

If you're Danish hopefully you'll find this series interesting, a bit informative, and not too outlandishly offensive. If you're a foreigner coming to Denmark, I hope this helps you build upon observations and insights the rest of us had to find out the hard way.
