We're recapping an unforgettable weekend filled with great food, live music, and plenty of Disney magic! We stayed at Disney's Pop Century Resort, giving our thoughts on the resort's location, amenities, transportation, and how it stacks up against other Value Resorts. Then, we dive into our EPCOT dining experiences, including reviews of Nine Dragons in the China Pavilion and Spice Road Table in Morocco, both paired with Garden Rocks Concert Series dining packages. Was the cost worth it for guaranteed seating? And what were our standout dishes? We break it all down, from Sichuan Shui Zhu Beef and Smoked Duck Fried Rice to Spicy Shrimp and Pomegranate-Chili Crispy Cauliflower.Next, we take a break at Bar Riva at Disney's Riviera Resort, a perfect midday or post-park spot. We'll talk about the Signature Burger, Pepperoni Pizza, and Mediterranean Mint Lemonade, plus why we think this might be a hidden gem. Finally, we wrap up with our experience seeing Blue October live at EPCOT, sharing tips on getting the best Garden Rocks seats, and reflecting on our favorite moments from the trip. What was our best meal? Would we do anything differently? Tune in to find out!MEI-Travel – Expertise. Ease. Quick update on this week's episodes. Don't worry—you're still getting two, just not in the usual Tuesday and Friday order. We just got back from four days at Disney, where we saw Blue October at the Garden Rocks Series, ate a ton of amazing food, and stayed at Disney's Contemporary Resort in the Main Tower for the first time. Plus, I had the chance to see my brother speak over at the Dolphin. We got back late Monday night, so we didn't have time to record for Tuesday's episode.Instead, we'll be recording both episodes on Thursday and releasing one Thursday evening and the next Friday morning as usual. So be sure to tune in and subscribe so you don't miss them! You'll get to hear our thoughts on Nine Dragons, Spice Road Table, updates at Bar Riva, breakfast at Chef Mickey's, sitting at the bar at California Grill, and dinner at Steakhouse 71's bar. And of course, we'll be sharing our first-ever experience staying in the Contemporary's Main Tower with a Theme Park View—did it live up to the hype?Tune in Thursday and Friday, and be sure to hit subscribe so you never miss our usual Tuesday and Friday episodes. Thanks, and we'll see you guys real soon!MEI-Travel – Expertise. Ease. Value. No matter where you want to go, our trusted partner MEI-Travel, will handle the planning so you can focus on the memories. It's the first Multiversity Manga Club episode of the month, which means we're looking back at the month of May in Shonen Jump! Most of our discussion this month concerns the two massive game-changers in "Dr. Stone," followed by us discussing why "Nine Dragons' Ball Parade" is one of our favorite newer series. Kia Ora Whanau. John Ellis moved to Hong Kong in 2010 and found himself unexpectedly drawn from the roads onto the city’s expansive network of trails.Since moving from road to dirt, John has stacked up a bunch of wins throughout Asia including Moontrekker, Lantau 70, Green Power and MSIG Hong Kong. He has top 20 finishes at HK100, UTMF and Ultra Trail Australia, as well as winning the China Skyrunning Ultra Series 2016/17 and finishing top 50 at the Ultra Trail World Tour in 2015 and 2016. With his life changing tack somewhat due to parenthood, John still found time in 2019 to win the Asia Trail Masters series. Not content with merely running and being a stalwart of the Hong Kong scene, John is also a founder of the running brand T8 and the owner of Gone Running, a brick-and-mortar running store in Hong Kong. In this episode we discuss running in times of social unrest and during the uncertainty of Covid-19, the joy of running trails in an urban metropolis, what the Nine Dragons are and which level of typhoon is too much to run in. We also get the lowdown on the Hallertau Riverhead Rampage 21km winner Tom Hunt’s race, and his buildup to the Tahoe 200 Wowzers. ..Enjoy!

Today we are going to take a peek into Walt Disney World through the eyes of a local Floridian. I had the opportunity to chat with Bethany, who lives in Frostproof, Florida (a very tiny town about 45 minutes south of Orlando) with her two teenage daughters and her husband. Bethany grew up two hours from Disney World, and Disney was always a big part of her life. Now she’s able to pass that on to her children. Not only that, but Disney has introduced her children to so many people from around the world…something you would not get from a small town like Frostproof. Q&A: What does life look like when you live so close to Disney World? How often do you actually go to the parks? Usually two to three times a month Do you have annual passes to any other theme parks? We have them right now just for Disney, but we’re planning on getting passes for Busch Gardens. We would like a more affordable option for friends and family that come visit. If you are staying the night when you go to Disney World, do you usually stay on property or off property? On property – we will get one of the Value Resorts because it is the kids’ absolute favorite. They just love that everything is oversized and big and the pools are different shapes and themes… Can you explain the feeling behind why you’re so adamant about always having Annual Passes and keeping Disney in your life? It’s the Cast Members. We have never had a bad trip to Disney ever. And to be able to take my childhood memories and pass them down to my children and maybe one day they’ll pass it down to their children… It’s traditions. Like Christmas is not going to be Christmas until we go see the castle lit up. It’s hard to explain. You would think after five years with Annual Passes we would be sick of it, but no. Absolutely not. You do something new every time you go. How Bethany and her family have embraced the Disney spirit If we see a stressed out mom, maybe their kid is crying, we try to help. I think it’s so great that Bethany has taught her kids to think of other people first. She understands the meaning of a Disney vacation, especially to first-timers. One time my oldest daughter came up to me and she said ‘Mama, this kid just grabbed my hand. I don’t know who he belongs to,’ I heard a Mom yelling out for a kid and ‘I said I think we have him!’ I just want everybody to feel appreciated, especially Cast Members, and seeing how some people can act… so I thank them anytime I get a chance because like I said, they make dreams come true. Is Disney World safe? I feel like it is the safest place in the world. My teenage daughters can go off and I don’t have to worry about them. They have their own FastPasses or they might go get lunch somewhere without their father and I… I just love the security that I feel. We always thank the cops that are standing out front because they do an outstanding job. Now it’s not like you shouldn’t still use caution in Disney World, but in addition to the security Cast Members you see throughout the parks, there’s actually a lot that you don’t see. There are so many in plain clothes pretending to be tourists. That doesn’t mean you should do anything different than you would otherwise, but you may feel a little bit safer knowing that someone’s got your back. What’s a common mistake that you see people in Disney World making? Wearing flip-flops! And women wearing heels. (It really happens, I’ve seen it too!) You’ll oftentimes see these women wearing sandals from the stores within the parks because their heels were just killing their feet. WHAT IS THE BEST MONTH FOR YOU TO VISIT DISNEY WORLD? This is such a common question. What are the best shoes to wear in Disney World? My family and I went to Florida in July for the first time two years ago (it wasn’t by choice, it was for a dance competition or I don’t think I would have chosen July otherwise) and I knew it would be so hot. I thought maybe running shoes would make my feet too hot, but it was the best decision I made. Pro Tip from Bethany: If you ever do get blisters on the backs of your feet, first aid has the best blister Band-Aids ever. I can’t find them over the counter and I have searched and searched. First Aid is amazing! I heard this once, I believe it was on another podcast and I of course don’t remember which, but they mentioned that if you are planning a Walt Disney World vacation it’s helpful to start exercising or at least walking, months before your trip. Remember, you will be walking ten to twelve miles a day and I’m guessing most of you, in your daily life, don’t walk ten miles in a day. Children with Special Needs (Sensory sensitivity) Disney is is very stimulating… my youngest daughter is autistic and so she can get overwhelmed with all the crowds around her. Remember how colorful and noisy the parks are to kids and take it easy on the toddlers. They have little legs and it’s usually very hot in Orlando. If you have a child with sensory sensitivity, seek out Cast Members for help when they get overwhelmed (simply explain you need a “Break Area” to relax from the stimulation.) Bethany remembers one time during the fireworks, the Cast Members brought her to the Baby Care Center and they let her stay there where it was very quiet until her daughter was able to calm down. But there are several other areas as well that Cast Members will direct you to when you need some quiet in your Disney Day. Favorite Table Service and Quick Service Restaurants Table Service: Nine Dragons (China Pavilion – Epcot). On one visit, Bethany’s sister wanted to try it… and Bethany was introduced to Salt and Pepper Shrimp (a noodle dish). She says the garlic and the spices are what make her get it every time they go to Nine Dragons. Counter Service: Barbecue ribs in Harambe Market in Africa in the Animal Kingdom (they’re actually on the kids’ menu). Also, the Flame Tree BBQ in Animal Kingdom…everything on that menu is good. Absolutely everything. Favorite Disney Memory Meeting Anna and Elsa. It was Christmas Eve night and the park was empty. They got to meet Anna and Elsa and since there was nobody else was in line, Bethany and her family were able to spend 30 – 35 minutes with the characters before the next family arrived. They played hide-and-seek and Bethany has a picture of her teenage daughter… …and her smile she was just so happy that night and I never thought I’d see that. I just love this because oftentimes I hear the question “Is Disney World for teenagers?” I appreciate the perspective because of course, you wouldn’t expect a young teenager at that point to just buy into a character experience and let themselves just have fun. Not only that, this wasn’t an isolated experience. One time in Animal Kingdom, they were at a dance with a DJ and a girl pulled Bethany’s daughter on to the dance floor with her. And Bethany nearly fell over when her daughter danced. Disney is magic. P.S. After I interviewed Bethany I got a GREAT message from her...she was back in Disney World with her Sister. Now they have gone several times, but they were on a break from going together. Until her Sister could beat the cancer that had taken over. So you can imagine why getting this message was such great news! Congrats to you all!

The WDW Radio Show - Your Walt Disney World Information Station
Hello and welcome to The WDW Radio Show - Your Walt Disney World Information Station. I am your host, Lou Mongello and this is show #93 for the week of November 16, 2008. In the Walt Disney World News this week, we’ll look at Disney’s latest technological initiative, which will keep Guests connected and informed in amazing new ways starting next year. I’ll also tell you where and when you can go meet Santa, and the reopening of new, old shops in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. I just returned from Walt Disney World, and brought back some audio segments that I think you’ll enjoy. First, I had a chance to visit and have a personal tour of the new Nine Dragons restaurant in China in Epcot’s World Showcase. Having recently opened after a long refurbishment, we discuss the changes to the restaurant’s décor and menu, as well as explore its cultural heritage and beautiful, rich symbolism located throughout. I also had a wonderful opportunity to sit and chat with a man whose work for the Walt Disney Company I have admired for some time, and whose new book afforded me an even greater appreciation of not just the man, but the lessons he is now sharing with others. Lee Cockerell, former Executive Vice President of Operations at the Walt Disney World Resort talk with me in the park about his background, work with and for the Company, and his new book, "Creating Magic: 10 Common Sense Leadership Strategies From a Life at Disney." It’s a fascinating look at the work, and more importantly the people backstage that make the magic for us as Guests. Mr. Cockerell offers practical, real-world advice, coupled with wonderful stories from his tenure at Disney that people can use in their everyday life. I’ll announce the winner of last week’s Carousel of Progress contest, and give you the question for this week’s contest, where I’ll be giving away 5 prizes instead of just one! I’ll give you a hint at what’s to come in future shows, before playing your voicemails, so sit back, relax, and enjoy this week's episode of the WDW Radio Show. The WDW Radio Show - Your Walt Disney World Information Station
Hello everybody and welcome once again to The WDW Radio Show - Your Walt Disney World Information Station. I am your host, Lou Mongello and this is show #86 for the week of September 28, 2008. I’m back from a busy week in Walt Disney World with a full recap of the week’s events, including News and details about what is coming for 2009, including the Celebration Vacations, changes and new additions to the Wide World of Sports Complex, and a new experience in Fantasyland with Tinker Bell and her fairy friends. I’ll talk to some executives with Disney to discuss just what’s coming next. I’ll talk about my trip with a number of other friends and listeners to the show, as we recorded our recap of the week live from Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. We’ll talk about everything from our experience at the newly reopened Nine Dragons restaurant in World Showcase, dinner at the Wave at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, the last nights of the Adventurer’s Club, and if we didn’t talk about food enough, I’ll play our live reviews from the promenade as we review samples from each Wonderland kiosk at Epcot’s International Food & Wine Festival. It’s a first-hand, on-the-spot review of many of the culinary delights being offered at the Festival from now through November 9, 2008. We’ll also talk about other events throughout the week, and the Inaugural Expedition Everest Challenge 5K race that took place this past Saturday. Many of us faced the Yeti and lived to tell about it, so here’s our recap of the race and party. I also have an exclusive interview with Steve Schussler, the creator of the Rainforest Café, Yak & Yeti and Downtown Disney’s newest dining experience, the T-Rex Café. He joins me to talk about his incredible personal journey, and the creation of some of Walt Disney World’s most unique restaurants. Finally, I’ll reveal the Grand Prize Winner of the Adventureland Challenge Contest, and crown the Ultimate Adventurer. Stay tuned at the end of the show for more information and announcements, as well as your voicemails, but for now, just sit back, relax, and enjoy this week's episode of the WDW Radio Show.
