Mike Salmon, the founder of Aviation Design and Supply and Fire Frost, discusses his journey in aviation and the services his companies provide. Aviation Design and Supply offers avionics engineering data packages, hardware kits for Garmin autopilots, and work order management software to help aviation maintenance shops run more efficiently. Fire Frost is a fire suppression system for Cirrus aircraft that uses a unique agent to remove heat and extinguish fires. Salmon emphasizes the importance of providing quality products and services that can save lives in the aviation industry. Mike Salmon discusses the Fire Frost system, which is designed to prevent and extinguish fires in aircraft. The system was developed after a tragic event in 2010 where a Cirrus aircraft caught fire after hitting a glider tow cable. The occupants would have survived if the fire had been prevented. The Fire Frost system can be manually activated with a push button and rapidly reduces the temperature in the engine bay to prevent ignition. It is non-corrosive and non-hazardous to the aircraft and leaves no residue. The goal of the system is to save lives and provide an extra layer of safety in aviation. To start the podcast, I give a preview of my forthcoming book of legal and political philosophy, "The Post-Atheist 21st Century - An Evolution in Democratic Governance and Personal Meaning", which will be available in the coming week on Amazon. It is aimed at intelligent and curious regular (that is, non-academic) readers, and attempts to describe a trend in governing ideology that is free from ideologies. It then talks about how to live while understanding that our existence is temporary, and there is no foundational ideology. This is a different project than people may be used to seeing from me, but also takes many of the same approaches to explaining complex ideas in a way that can be more easily digested. Now, back to the regular Rodgers Brief content ... In what should be an embarrassing turn of events for the Liberal Government, the Nova Scotia Federal Boundaries Commission has emphatically rejected suggestions from three NS Liberal MP's who sought to interfere with the independent setting of riding boundary lines. Starting just after the 10:30 mark of this video, I review the 25 page decision from the Commission, which systematically and thoroughly addressed each argument put forth by MP's Jaime Battiste, Lena Diab, and Minister Sean Fraser. The PROC parliamentary committee, chaired and dominated by Liberal MP's, had voted in favour of their colleagues' objections, which meant the Commission had to take a second look at their own work in light of those objections. The Commission, chaired by Court of Appeal Justice Cindy Bourgeois, was particularly critical of Mr. Battiste, using phrases like "fundamental misunderstanding on his part", "his failure", "questionable relevance", and "simply incorrect". They also note his reference to the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act, which was passed by the Federal gov't, and that this legislation contemplated an implementation plan being in place within two years. They point out that we are beyond two years, and there is no such plan in place, and certainly nothing that addresses electoral boundaries. I also discuss C-11, the controversial online streaming legislation, as well as new justice legislation aimed at providing a means for lifting publication bans and also changing the way the sex offender registry operates. Finally, I talk about this week's released caselaw from the Courts of Nova Scotia, with some emphasis on a cocaine sentencing case which demonstrates how careless criminals can be in the course of their work.

Sometimes when we think about the birth of Jesus, we only think about it as a cute story. We may add some religious meanings to it, but it is still just a nice story that we tell children during Christmas time. We don't really see it as something personal, something that can and must affect us personally. That's why it's good to revisit and ponder upon the story of the birth of Christ even though it is not yet Christmas time. Perhaps, we may be able to see how personally meaningful it is for all of us. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/bongbaylon/message

What makes parenting much more difficult is when we attach personal meaning to our child's behavior and blame ourselves. To be straight with you, it's not helpful to you and it's not helpful to your child, but we still do this, we still attach this personal blame to ourselves, and it needs to stop. So today, let's talk about how we should actually view behavior and quit making life harder than it needs to be. Now let me share with you how I view behavior. Let's head to the show. IN THIS EPISODE: Laura Lynn shares the ways in which we attach personal meaning to our child's behavior, like by saying, “I'm the reason he's acting out.”; She explains how she views behavior objectively so that we don't make behavior subjective; and She shares her trick for viewing her own children's behavior for what it is, just behavior. In this, the third and last installment in our Vocation series, we approach finding a career from an existential perspective. Jeremiah and E advocate for knowing self, staying in balance and trusting the process, and remaining open handed to new experiences. This episode is structured around the Delphic Maxims inscribed on the Temple of Apollo at Delphi. Originally, they were said to have been given by the Greek god Apollo's Oracle at Delphi. The three maxims are: "Know Thyself" (Nosce te ipsum), "Nothing in excess" (me quid nimis), and "Surety, then ruin" (vere conturbat).

The guest this week is Dr. Paul Wong, who is a Professor Emeritus of Trent University and President of the International Network on Personal Meaning. Paul has published across topics relating to meaning related therapies and we touch on his journey getting to the work of Viktor Frankl and logotherapy as a starting point. We spent some time talking about how dealing with depression is not an indicator that a person is ‘broken' or ‘flawed' and we got into how we can best repurpose that energy and experience to something positive in the end. We also got to talk about the PURE model that Dr. Wong created and talked about Meaning Therapy and how it differs from Existential and other meaning-oriented therapies more broadly. Here are some links to learn more about Paul and his work: http://www.drpaulwong.com/http://www.meaningtherapy.com/ Be well!

21 - Evan analyzes the age old question, what is the meaning of life? Upon inner-analysis, one begins to realize that each individual person has to create their own meaning. Based on the vastness of the universe and limiting capacity of our problem solving, it can be easy to take a nihilist approach to life. However, doing so compromises finding individual meaning. Every person is meant to be self-actualized, and meaning comes from the journey of one's own creative passions.Interact with The Fifth Dimension!InstagramYoutubeTikTokEmailEvan McDermodBecome a Patreon Subscriber! On Patreon, you will have access to exclusive guided meditations with Evan, Q&A's, an opportunity to interact with other subscribers, and early access to the featured guests coming on the podcast. Your Stories and Your Identity with Professor Ed de St. Aubin – 11-19-16 | Mind Body Spirit Living The stories about our life experiences become a key part of who we identify ourselves to be. They help us to understand our relationship to ourselves and others, and how we feel about events that happen in our life. Who or what would we be without our stories? This week we will look closer at how our stories become the narrative of our life, and what that means for our daily interaction in our world. Our guest is a Professor at Marquette University in Milwaukee who has researched and studied our relationship to our stories. Professor Ed de St. Aubin received his Ph.D. at Northwestern University and has been at Marquette since 1999. Ed has taught a wide variety of courses (e.g., Personality, Child and Adolescent Development, Human Sexuality, The Narrative Self, Adult Development and Aging, Psychology and Culture, Personal Meaning in a Complex World). Other specific interests include psychobiography, integrating quantitative and qualitative research, family dynamics, and the embeddedness of human lives. He loves teaching and has been awarded 14 teaching grants and has delivered over a dozen invited presentations regarding quality teaching. In this episode, Bo Bennett and Kim Ellington discuss discovering meaning and purpose with Gleb Tsipursky, co-founder and chief insights officer at Intentional Insights. From his bio at IntentionalInsights.org: Gleb's passion for helping people use science to find purpose and meaning, evaluate reality rationally, and make effective decisions to led him and his wife, Agnes Vishnevkin, to co-found Intentional Insights in the Spring of 2014. Since that time, Gleb has collaborated with a group of like-minded enthusiasts to translate complex academic research on rational thinking and emotional intelligence into pragmatic tools and strategies relevant to a broad public. He was always excited about studying and promoting such ideas, leading him to get a PhD in history, and to research and teach students about meaning and purpose, decision making, emotions, and agency in various historical contexts. As a historian, he is in the fortunate position of having scholarly expertise in combining research from many different fields into a cohesive whole, and translation of this information for a broad audience. Gleb currently holds a tenure-track professorship at The Ohio State University as a faculty in the History Department and a member of the Behavioral Decision-Making Initiative there. He is also a member of the International Network on Personal Meaning.
