As the health sector grapples with evolving challenges, sustainability in healthcare emerges as a critical focal point. The healthcare industry faces increasing pressure to adapt amid global conflicts, inflation, and rising environmental concerns. According to The Commonwealth Fund, healthcare contributes 8.5% of the U.S. carbon footprint. With this backdrop, healthcare organizations must explore ways to implement sustainable practices. But how can they effectively balance sustainability with budget constraints and operational efficiency? In this episode of Highway to Health, host David Kemp sits down with Jim Donovan, the CEO of ADEC Innovations, to discuss sustainability in healthcare. They explore near- and long-term strategies for integrating environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles into healthcare operations, offering insights on how healthcare leaders can navigate compliance and regulatory changes.Key Points:• Sustainability efforts in healthcare should begin with a gap analysis to assess current practices.• Investing in sustainable infrastructure, such as green hospitals and renewable energy, is crucial for long-term success.• Data management is vital for understanding environmental impact and making evidence-based decisions. With over 27 years of leadership experience, Jim Donovan is a sustainability and global operations visionary. The Autism & Grief Project is a new online platform designed to help adults with autism navigate and cope with the complexities of grief arising from both death and non-death losses. Alex LaMorie, A.A.S is a member of the project's Advisory Board and brings his lived experience with both autism and grief to this work. Dr. Kenneth J. Doka, PhD, MDiv, brings years of both professional and personal grief knowledge to his role on the project's Development Team. The Autism & Grief Project is unique - just as grief and autism are unique - and the site provides information not only for adults with autism who are grieving, but also the people who are supporting them. We discuss: Parallels between the uniqueness of grief and the individual experience of autism What Alex found to be helpul and unhelpful in his grief Being open to different forms of communication and emotional expression Learning to ask for help The goals for the Autism & Grief Project What Alex and Dr. Doka learned from being part of the project Alex D. Laura López, de "Actualizados Comunicación", empresa que se adica á xestión da comunicación dixital. Si no logras resolver algo no te preocupes, calma. Va a salir eventualmente. Pocas cosas son irreversibles en el trabajo. Toma tiempo libre en el trabajo. Descansa.

Licensed marriage and family therapist and certified grief and trauma counselor, Kara Bowman discusses her new book entitled "Heartbreak to Hope: Poems of Support for Grief and Loss". She talks about how the book can help guide people through their experiences of isolation, sadness, and grief. She advises some other ways to find effective methods for dealing with painful emotions and find the capacity to grow, heal, connect and find meaning. Kara Bowman is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who specializes in grief and trauma. She has a part-time private practice in Scotts Valley, California. Kara traveled a long, winding road to arrive at her current profession. She began with an MBA and a career in finance, opened a large, award-winning child development center, worked in non-profit administration, and homeschooled her three children before becoming an NVC Compassionate Communication Trainer. Just as Kara's children were leaving home and she was settling into her life, her family was hit with a nearly unbelievable wave of illnesses and deaths in a five-year period. Once Kara found her feet again, she knew she was driven to help others who were experiencing grief, loss and trauma. Kara returned to school to earn a Masters in Counseling Psychology, and did her internships primarily in hospice grief counseling. Kara is a Certified Grief Counselor (AAGC), a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (IATP), and a Certified Thanatologist (the study of death and dying; ADEC). Research and knowledge are growing in the field of grief, and Kara's passion is to help create a culture which is more compassionate and helpful toward those who are grieving (which will eventually be all of us). Kara is dedicated to her career and community through her practice and volunteer work. Although she always uses empathy as a foundation for her grief work, she tries to individualize her approach in order to give each client what they most need at that moment in time. This includes ritual, poetry, meditations and visualizations, along with talking. Kara loves sharing her knowledge of how to grieve, and how to support grievers, by volunteering at Hospice, giving talks to public groups and training therapists. In the summer of 2020, the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists honored Kara's practice with a Spotlight in The Therapist magazine. Kara lives in Santa Cruz, California, near the redwoods and the ocean, with her husband. She loves to read, write, walk, do pilates, cook, visit with friends and family, and try to make people laugh. She is very thankful her three grown children all live on the west coast. #HeartbreakToHope #GriefAndLoss
Robert A. Neimeyer, PhD, is Professor Emeritus of the Department of Psychology, University of Memphis, and maintains an active consulting and coaching practice. He also directs the Portland Institute for Loss and Transition, which provides online and onsite training internationally in grief therapy. Since completing his doctoral training at the University of Nebraska in 1982, he has conducted extensive research on the topics of death, grief, loss, and suicide intervention. Neimeyer has published 30 books, including Techniques of Grief Therapy: Assessment and Intervention and Grief and the Expressive Arts: Practices for Creating Meaning, the latter with Barbara Thompson. The author of over 500 articles and book chapters, he is currently working to advance a more adequate theory of grieving as a meaning-making process, both in his published work and through his frequent professional workshops for national and international audiences. Neimeyer is the Editor of the respected international journal, Death Studies, and served as President of the Association for Death Education and Counseling. In recognition of his scholarly contributions, he has been granted the Distinguished Research Award, the Distinguished Teaching Award, and the Eminent Faculty Award by the University of Memphis, elected Chair of the International Work Group on Death, Dying, and Bereavement, and given the Research Recognition, Clinical Practice and Lifetime Achievement Awards by the Association for Death Education and Counseling. Most recently, he has received the Phoenix Award: Rising to the Service of Humanity from the MISS Foundation, been given ADEC's Lifetime Achievement Award, and been recognized as an Honored Associate of the Viktor Frankl Association for his lifetime contributions to the study of meaning. Additionally, he is a published poet. In this episode, Robert and I discuss the need for additional education to be included in the training of therapists on the topic of grief and loss. He shares his thoughts about how "slowing down" in therapy actually speeds things up to create transformational moments with clients. He additionally shares about the work of his colleagues and himself providing experiential training on expressive methods for transformative meaning-making in grief work at the Portland Institute for Loss and Transition. We talk a bit about the Grief Track (10 workshops) being offered at the upcoming Expressive Therapies Summit, Los Angeles, event. He will specifically be teaching on Writing Through Bereavement: Reconstructing Meaning & Loss at the event. Doctrines such as original sin, salvation and eternal punishment in hell can be soul-crushing for someone dealing with loss and trauma. Similarly, the belief that prayer can change the course of events can lead to confusion and guilt when prayers don't produce the desired results.- Connect with Dr Daniel -Website | Spiritualityandgrief.com | AfterLifeConference.com | Twitter---About the HostCalan Breckon is a Personal Development Coach who has been supporting individuals from all around the world in their professional and personal transitions and aspirations. Congress of the People (Cope), Agang SA, and African Democratic Chagnge (ADEC) have been branded “failed parties”. Some argue there are no prospects of them increasing their support base in the upcoming elections. But the parties have told Eyewitness News’ Clement Manyathela and Theto Mahlakoana in our second episode of Politics Sphithiphithi. Cope has seen a dramatic decline in its support since 2009, Agang SA was abandoned by its founder, former apartheid activist Mamphele Ramphele, and the founder of the African Democratic Change Makhosi Khosa left the organisation during infighting and only returned just to resuscitate the party. Have they gotten their act together? So should you vote for these parties? We discuss this with Cope general secretary Papi Kganare, Agang SA leader Andries Tlouamma and Joseph Lolwane from the ADEC.

Dr. Ginni's father passed, when she was 12. This loss completely altered her life. Having lost loved ones, she has dedicated her life to bring hope and healing for grieving children and their families. She wrote "A Memoir of Mother-Daughter Love at the End of Life", which she found incredibly healing. Dr. Ginni shares the following wisdom: talk about death while your loved ones are still alive, when two people communicate with each other, love will win in the end, put yourself in others' shoes, practice forgiveness, ask for help, choose to be happy about the small things, have fun, be kind and be loving. Virginia A. Simpson, Ph.D. FT, is a Bereavement Care Specialist with more than 30 years experience working with the dying and grieving. She holds a Fellowship in Thanatology from the Association for Death Education & Counseling (ADEC), and is the Executive Counseling Director for hundreds of funeral homes throughout the United States and Canada. Simpson’s articles have appeared in publications throughout the world. In an effort to create meaning out of the sudden death of her beautiful stepson, Douglas William (Doug) Simpson in 1991, Dr. Simpson founded The Mourning Star Center, a place of hope and healing for grieving children and their families in Palm Desert, California in 1995. For ten years, she trained all grief facilitators and led every support group for grieving children, teens, parents, and spouses. Dr. Simpson is the author of the multi-award winning first book, The Space Between: A Memoir of Mother-Daughter Love at the End of Life published by She Writes Press in April 2016. http://www.drvirginiasimpson.com/ https://virginiaasimpson.com/ https://twitter.com/drginni12?lang=en https://www.amazon.com/Space-Between-Memoir-Mother-Daughter-Love/dp/1631520490/ tags: Dr., Virginia, Simpson, Ph.D., FT, bereavement, care, specialist, dying, grieving, thanatology, Association for Death Education and Counseling, ADEC, hope, healing, children, families, The Space Between, A Memoir of Mother-Daughter Love at the End of LIfe, drvirginiasimpson.com, virginiaasimpson.com, drginni, storiesthatempower.com, stories that empower, empowering stories, empowerment stories, stories of empowerment, stories of empowering others, self empowerment stories, stories empower, inspire, inspiring, inspiration, uplift, uplifting, upliftment, hope, light, Sean
Hopefully you all enjoyed Part 1 of our Hinman journey! I think it gives a snapshot into a lot of these companies if you weren't able to be there and may convice you that next year you should go to it or another big meeting like it. Part 2 kicks off Hank Barton, the president of Forest Dental. I was showing Peyman their dental units because he is still looking for a couple and we found them super affordable when we remodeled our office last year. This old guy in jeans walks up to us and introduces himself! I was like wow, that's really cool! So a couple minutes later we sat down and got a chance to hear about his journey working with ADEC for 25 years before buying Forest Dental. When you look at there website you will totally get that his other passion is hot rod cars because it comes out in the chairs…they are really sharp! What we really wanted with this part was to dentists to make sure they look at all options when they are remodeling an office or opening one up. As Hank will talk about, check out their 7000 series at ForestDental.com Next up is Alex Nudel, the founder of Revenue Well. It's hard to even describe what revenue well does in a paragraph! Basically it is like having an additional front office team member. The system can read codes so it knows every patient that you have diagnosed a crown on that didn't schedule. It then allows you to send emails to all those patients talking about importance of crowns. You can do this with everything so its pretty neat. They also help with reviews, social media, confirmations and everything in between it feels like. For $299 a month it will be hard to find something that all encompassing! Finally, we wrapped up our Hinman podcast tour with Dr. Charles Blair. A retired dentist, he now spends his entire time helping dentists deal with dental coding. This is something we all get no experience with in school and immediately have to learn on the fly when it comes to dealing with insurance! His books are not that expensive and are a must have for any new graduate in a practice. We don't push a lot of product here but its that worth it. Little teaser for an upcoming episode is Dr. Blair is currently doing a in detailed look at our office over the past year. We are going to record the entire thing and post it as an episode so you can see where we have been messing up and losing money! Practicebooster.com Remember everyone, work smarter…not harder!
On today's show, we will be learning about the work of ADEC, Action on Disability in Ethnic Communities, a community based organization that aims to empower people with disabilities from ethnic backgrounds, their carers and families. To learn about this organization we spoke with of its founding members, Effie Mehan, a woman from Greek background living with Cerebral palsy. She is a tireless advocate for the rights of people from CALD backgrounds living with disabilities in Victoria, and she is currently an ambassador for her organization. Welcome back to Therapy Chat! In this conversation, In this conversation, you'll a deeper discussion of grief, loss and end of life. While preparing this episode for replay, Laura learned that Isabel is currently living with cancer. You won't want to miss listening to this conversation with someone who has found meaning and purpose in her life despite being born with an illness that forced her to confront her own mortality as a young child. Isabel Stenzel Byrnes, LCSW, MPH shares her unique perspective on grief as someone who has survived a lifetime of living with a terminal chronic illness, and the loss of many important people in her life. This episode raises thought-provoking questions about acceptance, our cultural view of death in the West, and how we handle unpleasant emotions. She also leads writing through loss groups for those who are grieving, among other support groups. As an author, documentarian, patient advocate and public speaker, Isabel has lectured around the country on topics such as living well with illness, grief and loss, end-of-life issues and organ donation, including a TEDx Stanford talk in 2014.
