There are few careers in Irish music as extraordinary as that of Dónal Lunny. His name will forever be connected with the groups Emmet Spiceland, Planxty, The Bothy Band and Moving Hearts. Yet beyond being a defining musician, he has made important contributions on the other side of the sound desk too. In this discusssion, recorded at Another Love Story, we pass through some of the greatest Irish albums of the twentieth century. Titres interprétés au Grand studio- Blue Is The Eye Live RFI voir le clip - Go Away and Come back Hither, extrait de l'album Nine Waves voir le clip fait par Le Cargo - The Lowlands of Holland (traditionnel) Live RFI voir le clip.Line up : Brian Cormac Gloinn, guitare voix ; Diarmuid Gloinn, guitare voix ; Alain Mc Fadden, harmonium. Back in the USAThe 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement has attracted considerable national and international interest in recent weeks. Part of this involved me travelling last week once again to the USA. It must be four years since I was last there. While a lot has changed politically in that time both here and in the U.S. some things never change – among them the multiple stamping in red capitals of SSSS (Secondary Security Screening Selection) on our boarding passes and suitcase labels. It is explained as a random process whereby travellers are selected for ‘enhanced' searches. I have been getting the SSSS stamp on every visit to and from the USA for over 20 years. Randomly routine. Alex Maskey GFA25They say a week is a long time in politics. This month we mark the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement and we all should reflect on why it is that the Agreement is not yet fully implemented. One thing is certain and that is that republicanism is stronger now across the island than it has been at any time in this past century, with the continuing growth of Sinn Fein and emergence of civic United Irelanders while other progressives search for a political home including within a new Ireland. I believe that the GFA itself remains a work in progress however I also believe passionately that it has successfully set the template for all of our politics since 1998.CeolI love music. Od „As I Roved Out” zaczyna się mnóstwo irlandzkich piosenek. Przynajmniej trzy piosenki posiadają tytuł „As I Roved Out”. Dziewczę ma ledwie 17 lat, on ją uwodzi a ona zaprasza go na noc do domu. Ciekawą wersję „As I Rove Out”, z zespołem Planxty, śpiewał Andy Irvine. Zaprasza chłopaka do domu. Stawia mu niedwuznaczne propozycje. I tu z pomocą przyszła nam nasza nieodżałowana Monika Szwaja. Pani Monika napisała wspaniały polski tekst do „As I Roved Out”, do melodii śpiewanej przez Christiego Moora. Sail Ho Audycja zawiera utwory: "As I Roved Out", słowa i muzyka: tradycyjne; w wykonaniu: The Clancy Brothers & Tommy Makem, Andy Irvine'a z zespołem Planxty, Christy Moor z zespołem Planxty, „Tylko ja”, słowa: Monika Szwaja, muzyka: trad. „As I Roved Out” w wykonaniu „Folkowej Braci” w składzie: instrumenty perkusyjne, vocal - Janusz YANO Wawrzała (Chudoba, Sierra Manta) zamponas, quenas, akordeon, vocal - Marek Kaim (Varsovia Manta, Sierra Manta) gitara basowa - Jakub Bejda (Grupa Furmana) gitara, drumla, vocal - Arkadiusz KOSMOS Wąsik (Stonehenge, Duet Liryczny ABC) banjo, vocal - Jacek ZIELIK Zieliński skrzypce - Maciek Paszek (Carrantuohill) harmonijka ustna i vocal - Andrzej Trojak (Grupa Furmana) gitara i vocal - Arkadiusz BOMBEL Wiech (Turnioki) concertina, kości i vocal - Marek Szurawski (Stare Dzwony) @jarasaseasongi znajdziesz na Facebooku i YouTube

Join me again for the alphabet of names! 'I'm sorry, what?' Basically, I choose a song (or a few) with a person's name for each letter of the alphabet. For example: Annie's Song for A, Barbara Ann for B. This time we're on to D, E and F, and it's a very folky one! Incredible String Band, Mr. Fox, some traditional irish folk... all great stuff! If you'd like to hear the music we talk about in this episode, check out the playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2qFrK18boDsR70Hz51lsKQ?si=QYxu6oSoSfGP8_qNrnv-uw

The 738am podcast - talking to people about stuff

Today my guest is Leagues O'Toole, whose main gig right now is as a promoter with Aiken Promotions. Chances are you've been to one of his gigs at some point, and we start by discussing US comedians, like Marc Maron and Anthony Jesselnik, who have played in Dublin in recent times. Leagues is also a writer, so there's chat about how he got started by writing reviews for the Dublin Event Guide, and the magazine he created called Foggy Notions. We touch on his time as the somewhat reluctant presenter of No Disco, the challenges in putting on gigs, finding new acts, getting them the coverage they need to sell tickets, his book and documentary about the legendary Planxty, and loads more. You can follow him on Twitter @foggynotions where he sometimes takes requests about which acts to bring over.
