The $7.8B eCommerce Growth Strategy With Sabri Suby

Sabri Suby is the Founder and Head of Growth at King Kong, Australia's fastest-growing direct-response digital marketing agency. The company has generated over $7.8 billion in sales in over 1,000 industries. As an author and thought leader, Sabri wrote the international best-selling book Sell Like Crazy and has been featured in publications, including Forbes and Entrepreneur, where he contributes articles on entrepreneurship, digital marketing, and business growth strategies. He was one of five investors on the 2023 season of Shark Tank Australia. In this episode… The secret to brand growth isn't experimenting with various popular hacks and hoping something works. In reality, many brands focus on the wrong metrics. For instance, 80% of people spend 80% of their time reducing customer acquisition costs and 20% of their time increasing AOV and customer LTV. These numbers should be reversed, as nurturing your existing customers leads to lower acquisition costs. How can you uplevel the customer experience to scale your brand beyond $100 million in revenue? With experience generating over $7 billion in revenue for various e-commerce brands, Sabri Suby maintains that you can't scale sustainably without generating value for your customers and creating exceptional experiences. This requires garnering their attention and convincing them to purchase from you through compelling brand stories and messaging. However, you can't just distribute a catchy slogan and logo across various social channels and expect to build your brand and audience. You must identify your target customer, market and develop messaging around their central problem, and determine a product differentiator to craft a brand story.  Join William Harris for another episode of the Up Arrow Podcast as he interviews Sabri Suby, the Founder and Head of Growth at King Kong, about his $7.8 billion growth strategies. Sabri shares what DTC brands can learn about luxury brands' customer experience strategies, the worst pitch he's ever witnessed on Shark Tank Australia, and how he built a $500 million sales machine for MrBeast.

We've talked a lot about building your authority and finding clients on LinkedIn on this podcast. But I don't think we've ever spoken with anyone who built a six-figure copywriting business entirely on that platform—without a website or any other social media presence. On the 391st episode of The Copywriter Club Podcast, we spoke with Alefiya Khoraki who did exactly that. And if you're looking for clients on LinkedIn, you're definitely going to want to listen to this episode. Click the play button below, or scroll down for a full transcript. Stuff to check out: Sell Like Crazy by Sabri Suby The Copywriter Club Facebook Group The Copywriter Underground Full Transcript: Rob Marsh: After recording almost 400 episodes of this podcast—the official number 400 will be released in about 9 weeks and that doesn't include several unnumbered bonus episodes we've recorded—but with that many interviews under out belts, it gets pretty easy to identify trends and shifts in the copywriting world based on what copywriters tell us about how they find clients, the services they offer and the struggles they go through. And one of the trends we've heard about over and overa again in the past year or more is how effective LinkedIn is for finding clients. Hi, I'm Rob Marsh, one of the founders of The Copywriter Club. And on today's episode of The Copywriter Club Podcast, my co-founder, Kira Hug, and I interviewed copywriter Alefiya Khoraki. She's built a six figure business in less than a year, primarily by posting content on Linkedin and commenting on other content there. That's pretty good for someone who got her start trying to raise $800 for a project while she was in school.  But before we get to that, if you've been wondering how to use AI in your copywriting or content writing business, I've got something for you. A couple months ago i shared the way I use AI tools like Claude and ChatGPT to write bullets, headlines and subheads with the participants of a copywriting summit. It's a simple google document with the exact prompt I use to write hundreds of great headlines and bullets in seconds. Plus instructions on how to go back and forth with the AI model you're using to get even better results. You can even add a short ten-ish minute video training where I show you how i use it. If you're new to writing with A.I., this is a great way to get started. And if you've been using A.I. for awhile, this training may open your eyes to what's possible with a megaprompt. The document is free. And you can get it at thecopywriterclub.com/aiwriter. And with that, let's go to our interview with Alefiya. Kira Hug: Let's kick off with your story. How did you end up as a copywriter? Alefiya Khoraki: So it started in a very weird way. You probably hear this a lot from copywriters. Back in COVID, I started my bakery business because I was still in university and for the final year, we had a very special ceremony for which I needed to raise 800 USD. And I was like, OK, let's try something. So every day I was trying new things. Let's try selling cottage cheese one day. Let's try selling this. Let's try selling that. And then I ended up starting my own bakery because I was working. I was studying in the morning, so I had time for myself in the evenings. And then I started running Facebook ads for that. And I was like, oh wow, I really enjoy this part.  I didn't even know what copywriting is. I didn't even know what A-B testing is. Because for my bakery business, that was the first time I downloaded the Instagram app. So I was very far off from the whole online marketing world. And then a lady was introduced to our community and she hosted a workshop. And there, she introduced me to Boss Babe. Boss Babe is Natalie Ellis and Danielle Canty. And they were doing a summit with Tony Robbins, Young Guys EOC, and all that. And then at that time, to learn all these marketing skills for my bakery business.

You probably already know by now that our whole approach to email marketing is story-driven. In other words, we try and weave some storytelling into almost every email we send (with a couple of exceptions). One of the big reasons is that there are only so many things you can say or so many ways you can talk about the product or service you sell. But there are unlimited stories you can relate to your offer and to the problem that your product solves.Case in point, as Rob was thinking about the idea for a story based on something that happened to him recently, he realised that the lesson he'd pulled out of the story was the same one he'd taught in the email from the day before. And that's okay! Because the lesson may have been the same, but it was framed in a different way because the story was different. Plus, not everyone would have seen Rob's email from the previous day. And even if they had, some people might relate more to one story and not the other. This means you could potentially have the same lesson every day but frame it with a different story. And that's great if you think about it. Because there are only so many core lessons you can teach or things someone needs to learn before they buy your product. And if you can only talk about a limited set of features and benefits, you'll run out of things to say! So storytelling allows you to continue to talk about your product and what it does in different ways.More reasons to tell stories in your emailsAnother benefit of storytelling is that stories are usually about things that are happening or have happened in your life. So using stories helps you build rapport with your audience - it means they can get to know you. That's also why we share interesting, silly facts about ourselves at the start of each podcast episode. Because people get to learn more about us, and this helps us become three-dimensional. We're not just the people who talk about email marketing all the time – we're real people doing things with our families and living our lives outside of work like everyone else. The other reason why we love storytelling is that people emote with stories. And this doesn't happen with facts, features, or benefits, for example. On the other hand, with stories, you can make people feel different emotions – afraid, anxious, excited, etc. Plus, physically, stories take up more space in people's heads and brains than pretty much any other medium. What if you're in a more serious or ‘boring' industry? One thing we can tell you from experience is that...

Has Sell Like Crazy been on your reading list? Learn the key insights now. We're scratching the surface here. If you don't already have Sabri Suby's bestselling book on marketing and sales, order it here to learn the juicy details. Introduction  Your business success depends on harnessing the power of digital marketing.  Too many marketers cannot use robust online systems like Google, Facebook, and email to drive sales. They waste valuable time and money on ineffective marketing. They lose thousands of potential clients.  You need to know the nine phases entrepreneurs must go through to drive tremendous sales. This starts with creating the right mindset for success. You can then begin your journey from novice to powerhouse salesperson. Sell Like Crazy asks you to rethink traditional marketing. This includes changing how you manage your time. It also involves shifting how you think about presenting your product or service. You'll learn how to:  leverage time to drive sales; nurture dream client relationships over time; use High-Value Content Offers (HVCOs) to build trust; and focus on solving your clients' problems.  About Sabri Suby Sabri Suby is a serial entrepreneur. In today's episode, our guest is Sabri Suby, author of the Sell Like Crazy book. Founder & Head of Growth at King Kong. He is a serial entrepreneur and marketing specialist in the direct response space. Today, he is going to share how to be successful in business, and also be successful in areas of life.  [6:57] Why should we listen to you? I have started my business by pulling up my bootstraps and really hustling. Being out there in the trenches on the front lines, getting my teeth kicked in, day in, day out. And I've really just parlayed all of that work into the position where I currently am with my business right now.  [7:55] What is it that you actually do? I run a company called King Kong, Australia's number one fastest-growing digital marketing agency. We've got clients in 86 different countries, and we've generated over $1.33 billion in sales. And we're all about basically helping businesses solve the number one problem, how do I get more customers? We do that by helping them grow their traffic leads and sales.  [8:50] How did you figure it out? It all started when I got my first gig in sales. At 16 years old, I was selling ink cartridges over the telephone. It was my first kind of full-time job. We were all packed into this old shipping container that was converted into an office. It's just being on the front lines actually doing that customer conversion from a stranger into a client. I started other businesses. I ran a few of those into the ground and sold some of them. And that has all led me to the position that I am in right now in King Kong. [12:17] What's the most difficult, frustrating part for you to just get people the key to their success? We can make the marketing work, but you need to make the leads work. It's when you tell people what is required. It takes a different level of hunger to actually do what is required. It's their willingness to do all the things that unsuccessful people simply aren't willing to do. [13:53] I blame myself probably because my systems aren't good enough to educate them on the importance of these things. But we have set up those systems in our business, and we provide them with training and everything.  It's giving them the scripts of what to say to these leads and telling them how many times to execute it or their sales team would need to follow up on those leads in order to really make things work. [15:20] Do you think that some people aren't cut out to be in business? It's a product of your environment. I don't think that entrepreneurs are born or anything. I think that human beings are typically made up of their environment. It's the hunger to make something happen in your environment. And as a coach, we're not in that position to put people through those things, to make them have that hunger.  [16:21] Why did you trust yourself to go over and be successful? It is when I did the most random jobs in London and still, I ended up finding myself back in sales. I want to be in charge of my own destiny. And the way that I'm going to be able to achieve that is to be compensated by the value that I bring to an organization. If you're hungry and you're focused enough you can make everything happen.  [19:40] What do you do when something hits your desk? What's your next step to navigating that situation that most people would never even think of? By applying mental models to solve problems. I don't try to solve those problems from scratch every time I apply mental models, it's critical thinking. Also applying inversion thinking on the problems. Looking at every single problem that comes into your business with my own framework.   [22:52] How do you get to the point where you train people to pass the headaches that you wish you could jump in and do? You have to understand that in order to scale an organization, you have to become a leader. And you have to look at ways that you can build systems and procedures that try to eliminate as many of that mistakes as physically as possible.   [25:03] Is there a certain level that people should anticipate in order to expand or grow? I look at it as constantly trying to make myself redundant in my business. I've got this exercise called the King's audit. And that's basically where you audit your time, and you have a look at where it is going. And my goal as the business owner is constantly to make sure that I am working on the highest value of a task that you possibly can. You should be spending 80% of your time on revenue-generating activities and the growth of your business. [27:31] Where do you get them to grasp that revenues are a major piece of the business? In order to make an impact, and to provide transformation to people in this environment, cash is the oxygen that keeps the base alive. If you want to have more impact, you need to have more oxygen in your lungs to be able to create a vehicle that's going to help impact more people. Not only does that need to be a transfer of value, but there needs to be a transfer of currency in order to keep people accountable and get them to go out and execute what it is that you're asking them to execute. [29:50] What promise did God make to the world when He created you? The potential of what it is that I would be able to add to the world. I'm not in this for the money anymore, and I'm in it for the impact. That's the reason that I give away books, and I do all of these other things, to impact as many people as I possibly can. And I believe that business is a huge vehicle for making a change in the world in two different ways. One, if you're in a business, and you're able to generate resources in revenue, that gives you the tools that you need to have more impact and to help people and to give back to the community. It also allows you to show the people in your life the change that you can have. If you have a higher calling, and you can have even more potential, it allows you to impact a lot of people that you've never even met before. With the exception of a couple of people, the entrepreneurs I work with find sales to be the most difficult thing about running their businesses. Sales feels really gross for them and asking for money feels even more gross.I had no sales experience when I started my first business, and it was an area that I had to learn about failed dismally, try again, failed dismally again, try again, fail again, for years before I hit upon the formula that worked for me and for my business.Thankfully, I was mentored and coached by and studied many people who DID actually know what they were doing and it made an immeasurable difference to me.Learning from experts is something we can all do, no matter where we are and I'm excited to bring you a consummate expert in sales this week, as part of the expert season on my podcast.Sabri Suby walks his own talk and is one of the most inspiring people I know.He first learned his craft in sales at other people's businesses. He was the top selling salesperson at every company he has ever worked in before starting a couple of businesses himself. His current business - King Kong - has gone on to become a runaway success in terms of digital marketing. The business was on the BRW Fast Starters list, not once, but twice. And Sabri himself has been featured in publications like Forbes, Inc, Entrepreneur Magazine, and many, many others as well.So I can think of no one better for us to learn from when it comes to sales - specifically digital sales. I spoke to Sabri a couple of weeks after his first book, , had just come out and as you would expect, it was already a bestseller on Amazon.Sell Like CrazyYou can find King Kong, at kingkong.com.au, and you can also follow Sabri on Instagram at @sabrisuby. And of course you can buy his book, Sell Like Crazy, on Amazon as well.Thank you for listening in! It really does mean the world to me.Please share your feedback, and any questions you might have, with me on Instagram - @lorraineremarks. I'd love to hear from you.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
