Sabri Suby is the Founder and Head of Growth at King Kong, Australia's fastest-growing direct-response digital marketing agency. The company has generated over $7.8 billion in sales in over 1,000 industries. As an author and thought leader, Sabri wrote the international best-selling book Sell Like Crazy and has been featured in publications, including Forbes and Entrepreneur, where he contributes articles on entrepreneurship, digital marketing, and business growth strategies. He was one of five investors on the 2023 season of Shark Tank Australia. In this episode… The secret to brand growth isn't experimenting with various popular hacks and hoping something works. In reality, many brands focus on the wrong metrics. For instance, 80% of people spend 80% of their time reducing customer acquisition costs and 20% of their time increasing AOV and customer LTV. These numbers should be reversed, as nurturing your existing customers leads to lower acquisition costs. How can you uplevel the customer experience to scale your brand beyond $100 million in revenue? With experience generating over $7 billion in revenue for various e-commerce brands, Sabri Suby maintains that you can't scale sustainably without generating value for your customers and creating exceptional experiences. This requires garnering their attention and convincing them to purchase from you through compelling brand stories and messaging. However, you can't just distribute a catchy slogan and logo across various social channels and expect to build your brand and audience. You must identify your target customer, market and develop messaging around their central problem, and determine a product differentiator to craft a brand story.  Join William Harris for another episode of the Up Arrow Podcast as he interviews Sabri Suby, the Founder and Head of Growth at King Kong, about his $7.8 billion growth strategies. Sabri shares what DTC brands can learn about luxury brands' customer experience strategies, the worst pitch he's ever witnessed on Shark Tank Australia, and how he built a $500 million sales machine for MrBeast.

I am honoured to welcome Annie Nguyen to The Debra Shepherd Podcast. Annie is the Founder of Annee's Caphê Sua Da (ANNEES), Australia's first free standing Vietnamese iced coffee bar in far north Queensland. Annie was born in Vietnam and raised in America. After working in corporate finance, she left behind the structured world she knew to explore what the rest of the world had to offer.   In 2014, Annie travelled to Australia with her partner. When she arrived, she couldn't get a job as a barista specialising in crafting authentic Italian espresso, so she decided to share her expertise in Vietnamese coffee and her rich cultural heritage. Annie set up a stall at the farmers market in Cairns, which was ideal given the tropical climate, perfect for serving robust Vietnamese iced coffee.    Although initially a light-hearted endeavour, starting a coffee stand awakened a fire within her, amplifying her innate drive to foster creation and unity among individuals. Annie found herself building a platform to empower and enable others to catalyse substantial change around them, guiding them towards purpose and self-discovery. Unlocking true potential is what ANNEES is all about.  ANNEES is not merely a coffee making establishment. ANNEES is a destination to experience the essence of joy and a mission to extend beyond borders with the goal to spread 'A-Piece of Happiness' worldwide.  In this episode, Annie shares her business story. We discuss meaningful living, happiness, purpose, business expansion, impact and success. HIGHLIGHTS Having purpose in everything you do. From leaving corporate finance and setting up a Vietnamese coffee stand at the Rusty's market in Cairns to owning five shops in Far North Queensland, Annie shares her story. RedBalloon now sits within Big Red Group, which she co-founded in 2017.    Naomi is known as an entrepreneur and business leader, and media commentator for business owners. She's a regular panelist on ABC The Drum and is a best-selling author, podcaster, and speaker. You might recognize her from Shark Tank Australia, where she was the ‘Red Shark.'   THIS EPISODE IS PERFECT FOR… anyone who wants a peek at what Naomi's life is like. After spending three days with her, I know I had to invite her to the show!   TODAY'S MAIN MESSAGE… it's about doing your best work. It doesn't matter if you're starting a business in your 20s, in your 60s, or even if you're making a pivot in your current career. Naomi teaches how important it is that fear doesn't stop you. Look at the long journey ahead and take responsibility for the life you want.   WHAT  I  LOVE  MOST… Naomi's personal motto–if it's meant to be, it's up to me. This clearly spells out her work ethic, her personality, and the reason why she's a role model to so many.    Three days with a Shark taught me to continually question and re-assess my roles. Steve Baxter says it like it is. He is not shy about being controversial and he is comfortable with the discomfort of disagreement. But as one of Australia's most visible tech entrepreneurs, active investor and mentor to numerous startups, he has done more than almost anyone in the country to popularise early stage technology investment. He also provides some of the most useful and easy to remember advice to entrepreneurs, like ‘execution is everything' and ‘don't treat your business as a cash register'. Steve has been championing Australian startups and entrepreneurs since he founded River City Labs, Brisbane's well-known co-working hub in 2012. But many of us are most familiar with Steve as a result of his appearance as a ‘Shark' on Channel 10's Shark Tank Australia. These days Steve is energised by TEN13 an investment syndicate platform for sophisticated investors to invest alongside him and the experienced Investments team that supports him. Today I talk with Chris Westfall, about how to make life easier in these troubling times. One of my all-time most admired and respected actors, Robert Redford, commented “ I'm interested in that thing that happens where there's a breaking point for some people and not for others. You go through such hardship, things that are almost impossibly difficult, and there's no sign that it's going to get any better, and that's the point when people quit. But some don't.” That got me thinking about about hardship in today's world, and about how many of us are stretched to near breaking point. Out of curiosity, I searched the phrase "life is hard" and google returned 10 million results.  Then I searched "how to relieve stress" and google found 1.7 trillion results.  So clearly, like me, many of you over the past two years, have been struggling through hardships of different degrees, sometimes angry, sometimes anxious, often overwhelmed, always waiting for life to return to normal, to become easier. Who quits? Who does not? Today's guest, is Business Coach, Keynote speaker and author, Chris Westfall, whose latest book is called Easier:  60 Ways to Make Your Work Life Work for You. His book is written in the style of narrative dialogue between The Client and The Coach, with the objective being for fresh ideas to emerge through this dialogue and  ultimately help the Client define a better life.   I was drawn to the definition of Easier, described early in the book`. “Easier is where life's better, where we find freedom. Clarity. Confidence. It's where we don't struggle and suffer and wish and try to manage the whole world". (Chris Westfall) Chris is one of the most sought-after business coaches and keynote speakers in the world. He has helped launch over five dozen businesses, and has appeared on ABC NEWS, NBC TV and CNN. A regular contributor to Forbes, he has worked with thousands of leaders at Fortune 500 companies, non-profit organizations and high-tech startups. A coach to entrepreneurs and executives around the globe, his clients have appeared on Shark Tank, Dragon's Den and Shark Tank-Australia.  He regularly consults with top-tier universities and is the author of three other books, including Leadership Language, Bullet Proof branding and the NEW Elevator Pitch. We discuss his belief that when it looks like life, career, communication and everything else is breaking down, it's time to break free and access a kind of personal freedom that allows you to make different choices, see things in a different way and enter into an understanding of what would make your situation easier.  Chris is offering his gift of a free on line course where you can explore some of the themes and  challenges described inside the book to help you to show up at your best and create the world you want.   To contact Chris Westfall.   Free online course: https://chriswestfall.newzenler.com/courses/peak-performance-with-chris-westfall/dashboard  - Chris' website: https://westfallonline.com/ - Easier's website: http://easier-book.com - Easier's Amazon webpage: http://bit.ly/easier-book - Chris' Facebook: http://facebook.com/therealchriswestfall - Easier's Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/easierbook  Contact Dr. Gillian Lockitch:   To discover how you can  create your personal lifestyle roadmap to Growing Older Living Younger, visit www.askdrgill.com to order your copy of Growing Older Living Younger: The Science of Aging Gracefully and The Art of Retiring Comfortably.  Schedule your free Living Younger Discovery Call with me at https://calendly.com/askdrgill/discovery-phone-chat

What separates the best entrepreneurs from the rest? Top investor, founder and ‘Shark' Steve Baxter knows better than anyone. Steve is one of Australia's most successful tech entrepreneurs who gives back as an investor and mentor, while also starring on Channel 10's very popular Shark Tank Australia. In this episode we'll look at what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur alongside Steve's own journey, while next episode we delve into what makes a successful start up business and how you go about evaluating and investing in them. Steve is the living epitome of the old saying that ‘Today I'll invest in what others won't, so tomorrow I can do what others can't!' In 1994, at the age of just 23, Steve put his life savings of $11,000 on the line to launch his first startup, the pioneering internet service provider SE Net, from the spare room of his Adelaide home, as you'll hear in detail during our chat. And it was around that time that I had the pleasure of first meeting Steve, as his business partner was a mutual and longtime friend of mine Chris Foote. Growing rapidly to service more than 35,000 customers, SE Net was eventually sold and acquired by Ozemail under the stewardship of its Founding Director and past Australian Prime Minister, Malcolm Turnbull. In 2001, Steve then teamed with a schoolmate to launch his second startup, PIPE Networks, a provider of wholesale telecom infrastructure that was listed on the ASX in 2005. Eight years later they sold it to the TPG Group for the princely sum of just $373 million – a truly hard fought and lifechanging moment. Steve then spent a year working with Google in California in 2008, leading a project to deliver high-speed telecommunications systems across North America. Since 2010 he has become an early stage investor in startups through his investment company, Transition Level Investments. This led to the founding of Brisbane tech startup hub River City Labs and the creation of Startup Catalyst and RiverPitch programs, and he's been championing Australian startups and entrepreneurs ever since.  He's also been on the listed boards of Vocus Telecoms, Indoor Skydive Australia Group and Other Levels as well as being on the board of Commercialisation Australia. Steve's also been heavily involved in the early days of founding numerous industry groups and forums such as the South Australian Internet Association, South Australian Internet Exchange, Australian Domain Name Authority, and more. Steve now runs TEN13, an investment syndicate platform for sophisticated investors to invest alongside him and the experienced Transition Level Investments team, as unlike many venture capitalists, Steve puts his own cash on the dash to the tune of an average of 15% to 20% of every seed deal. TEN13 understands that to get great returns you need to invest in global companies, so they've built a global portfolio across five continents with a value of over $2 billion in its first 18 months. So If you're a sophisticated investor looking to diversify your portfolio and invest in top calibre technology companies, reach out to Steve and his high calibre TEN13 investment team who undertake exhaustive due diligence before they invest. From starting his journey as an Engineer in England to deciding to move to the Gold Coast in Australia in search of a better life for himself, where he landed a call centre job. From his own admittance Ryan didn't take to sales as quickly as he would've liked and in a league of 21 staff he was sat at number 21 in the first three months of joining and on the verge of moving back to England, it was his now business partner who asked him to carry out 60 days of intense sales research and through shear grit, determination and just a genuine hunger to learn Ryan turned his position around from 21 to number 1 and eventually becoming Sales Manager of the same business. Ryan & Jack were successful on Shark Tank Australia in 2018 gaining investors from the tank and winners of young entrepreneurs in 2017. Ryan successfully owns ISR Training, a multi-award winning sales training organisation based in the Gold Coast where they help business owners, entrepreneurs and sales professionals increase revenue through ethical sales training delivered through their innovative SWISH training academy, classroom style boot camps and face to face high-intensity impact sessions. I hope you enjoy!

Adrian is the co-founder and CEO of Pitchblak, a company that helps business founders prove their ideas, get funding and launch companies that disrupt things. And yes, it has proven chops. Glen Richards, of Shark Tank Australia and Green Cross fame, reckons it's the best model for getting new ideas off the ground that he's seen. And that's big kudos. But what does any of this have to do with your Unfound Fears? Well, quite a bit. In episodes 1 and 2 we talked about what happens chemically to your body when you feel fear, and on a macro level, why the fears you feel about doing certain things are almost always worth it in the end. But in Adrian's work, he sees people experience tens, maybe hundreds of fear micro-moments a day. And that, he says, is a good thing. The right thing. Because what better way to overcome fears than in a bunch of small steps, rather than a massive leap. So in Adrian's experience, little victories and non-biased results are the things that help push your fears aside when you're starting a business. And like the theme from the rather excellent 80s sitcom Step by Step suggests, it's done in increments, not giant leaps. Some could say the giant leap is starting the business in the first place. But the thing I like most about Adrian's approach is this: it's the non-biased results that create your little victories, not hype. That first order, that first investment in marketing, turning a customer complaint into a positive, launching your website, buying your domain, even hiring a virtual assistant - they're all little steps that get fear off your back bit by bit. And, as Erin Hegarty said in episode 1, exposure is the best way to defeat the things that stress you out or produce anxiety. Doing them again and again in small steps makes them automatic.

About the Episode: The topic of this episode is another in a series of interviews I’m doing focused on the four skills that enable a 25% higher income for product managers and increasing their influence. The 4 skills were discussed back in episode 073 and include: Pitch artist – the ability to present and sell your ideas and conclusions.Exec debater — being the president of the product and standing up for what is needed and challenging executive teams.Inspire others — great products are built by great teams but these aren’t necessarily teams that product managers personally manage. Instead, product managers need to inspire them and share the vision of the product.Truth to power – being good at raising inconvenient truths and not running away from an unpopular message. Janine Allis is an entrepreneur that needs little introduction.  During a trip to the US in 1999, Janine noticed the juice and smoothie category was booming. And yet there was hardly a juice bar to be found in Australia. Janine returned to Australia and founded Boost which is now operating in 17 countries - more than any other juice bar in the world. Janine and her husband Jeff expanded their retail empire and acquired Salsas Fresh Mex Grill and CIBO Espresso, under the holding company Retail Zoo. There are over 7000 staff between the four businesses. Janine’s success earned her a spot as a shark on Shark Tank Australia where aspiring entrepreneur contestants pitch their businesses to a panel of "shark" investors.  An adventurer at heart, travelling the world as a young Aussie backpacker in the 80s, working from a camp counselor in San Francisco to a Stewardess of David Bowie’s yacht.

Steve Baxter is a cool guy I met because of podcasting!  We met sometime around 2004 or 2005 at a pool party in Phoenix AZ, because we both listened to the same podcast.  Flash forward to 2014 I finally figured out that Steve was a pretty big deal...He sold companies in Australia for millions of dollars.  He also appeared on Shark Tank Australia. Steve Baxter Vroom Veer Stories If you want to be in business, you need to learn how to SELL! Working with ex special forces troops to create Australia's 1st indoor skydiving business Steve worked at Google for a while, and really enjoyed flying planes after work. The struggle leaving his last business, and the relief after he finally did. Why Steve is happy the taxi cab industry is being disrupted by Uber and Lyft. Don't yield in a roundabout in a war zone with special forces guys (duh). Do I personally like this person? 1st question before investing. Steve Baxter Links River City Labs Shark Tank Austrailia
