In this episode I sit down with Author and Freelance Journalist, Eli Ihej. Born and raised in Los Angeles, he developed a childhood passion for basketball and the Lakers that he combined with his years of freelance journalism alongside his interest in wellness and psychology! Eli recently released his new book titled, What Kobe Left Behind “The Playbook From An Extraordinary Life.” In our conversation, Eli shares why writing this book became a labor of love and an opportunity to share Kobe Bryant's story at a deeper level. He invites his readers to journey through their own story along with his and Bryant's by asking this question, “What if the amazing stories hidden within Kobe Bryant's legacy can turn you into a champion?” Yes, what if? Dr. Caroline Leaf, best-selling author of Switch On Your Brain and Clean Up Your Mental Mess gives this review, “This is one of those rare pieces of inspired storytelling that educates as much as it captivates. I'm not a basketball fan, but the way Eli highlights Bryant's heart-wrenching and uplifting episodes kept me reading to the very end.” As we move through our conversation, Ihej shares with us why and how empathy extends far beyond a counseling environment into the arenas of alpha-male pro athlete environments to better themselves as leaders like Bryant did in his own life. We learn as Bryant's career evolved, so did his need to receive and give empathy. This power source, discovered of empathy, became instrumental in his career. Eli reveals disciplines of Bryant's he adapted in his own life and the impact it made personally and professionally. During the writing of his book, his own life transformed! He believes the change he experienced is a transformation also available to you and me. Eli Ihej passionately draws us in his book, What Kobe Left Behind, to receive more than an intimate view of Kobe's extraordinary life. In this episode, we had the pleasure of hosting Dr. Carolyn Leaf, who shared invaluable insights on how to support children in managing their mental well-being. The show highlighted the pressing issue of childhood suicide, which has reached epidemic proportions, with rates surpassing those of adults. Dr. Carolyn emphasized the importance of teaching children how to understand and handle their emotions effectively. She pointed out that negative emotions are temporary and not a permanent state. Using a powerful analogy, she likened children to pilots flying a plane without being taught how to navigate, land, or manage it properly. Parents play a vital role in guiding their children through emotional challenges. It is crucial to educate them about their emotions, equipping them with the tools to navigate through the complexities of our modern world, including the impact of social media and its potential to trigger negative emotions, depression, and self-loathing. During the episode, Dr. Carolyn introduced the concept of the "neuro cycle," which involves guiding children through the process of addressing and resolving negative feelings effectively. The show proved to be a treasure trove of valuable information and strategies for parents and guardians seeking to help their children develop emotional resilience and well-being in today's challenging environment.   On today's podcast, you will learn: The alarming rise in childhood suicide rates, surpassing those of adults. How children are not being taught how to manage their emotions. The role of our current society, including social media on children's mental well-being. Valuable strategies and advice to help children develop emotional resilience. The importance of teaching children that emotions are temporary. Welcome to Part LIV of our Brain Drain trilogy's finale about how to undo the damage of harmful influences and brainwashing. Take claim and control over your responses to situations. We are not obligated to react in anger or claim a victim mindset. Don't hurt someone because they hurt you. Ask yourself why you react the way that you do to then find out how to respond and find closure instead. Address your wounds…don't run away. Seeking out comfort until you don't feel pain is dangerous for many reasons. You learn your value by seeking God and negating the negative things you've held onto with Him. Make it a goal to become the best version of yourself that God has created you to be and make genuine effort towards it today. Shawn mentions some of the books that have helped him and Brandi: 1. "Keep Your Love On" by Danny Silk. 2. "Switch On Your Brain" by Dr. Caroline Leaf 3. "Boundaries" by Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr. John Townsend. 4. "Healing the Soul of A Woman" by Joyce Meyer. The debate in science is between the mind being what the brain does versus the brain doing the bidding of the mind. The correct view is that the mind is designed to control the body, of which the brain is a part, not the other way around. Our brain does not control us; we control our brain through our thinking and choosing. We can control our reactions to anything.

In this episode Australian Behavioural Scientist and master negotiator, Allan Parker, shares secrets of non-verbal communication; how each move, breath, gesture and sentence can impact your listener and their response. Simple actions and gestures can activate different parts of the brain, spark dormant neurons into action and help you connect in completely different ways.   Designer of Selective Behaviour Modelling (SBM), Allan teaches a new approach to embedding behaviors, reliably and predictably, into large numbers of people to support culture change with empirical measurement. Author of "Switch On Your Brain" and "Negotiator's toolkit", Allan leads an experimental learning laboratory, exploring, thinking, doing and being different from yesterday's way.  TALKING POINTS Allan Parker: "I've always got my peripheral vision on. The minute I see somebody take a big breath and make a forward movement, they're going to come in with reactivity, I raise my hand toward them and look in the opposite direction. I float my hand toward them and my eyes always go in the opposite direction. I practiced it for years. The moment you float your hand toward them and say “And what you might be thinking is . . . “, I've now got their attention back and then I can add an extra point, which maybe they wanted to interrupt me halfway through. And it may be the thing I'm about to say . . ." === "If I can do timing, permission, genuine inquiry . . . 'I'm just wondering . . .' is one of my favorites. I suspect what could be. And that's where I bring in speculative language which triggers the speculative brain, which is always wanting to be curious. And it also means that there's no right or wrong." === "One thing I know for sure is that if I ask you to solve a problem and you give me your first answer, I know that it's one you've done before." === A meeting tactic for anyone who wants to influence a meeting, start by confirming what has just been said and then add your piece. And that's where introverts can really shine, because they're not doing all the talking, they're listening before they talk. They can use the tactic of summarizing what's been said, then adding their piece. === Any leader should know the names of every single person in their building that they communicate with over Zoom, over Teams online. There's no excuse for not using people's names and not finding out. ===   ABOUT ALLAN PARKER https://www.peakpd.com/ https://www.peakpd.com/about-allan-parker/ Contact: frontdesk@peakpd.com    ABOUT HOST, NINA SUNDAY CSP Nina's catchphrase is: 'Workplace culture hides in plain sight. Walking as a new creation in Christ isn't a one and done deal. This 18 inch journey, as U2 sang, is the longest one you'll ever take. The process of renewing our minds and cultivating the soil in our hearts to receive the implanted word of truth is a process. For me this journey to become whole looked like Biblical counseling, a spirit filled mentor, and counsel and accountability from wise friends. It required that I stop being afraid of looking at, and taking responsibility for, the broken places. Blame and Shame are not from God. We can't shame ourselves into changing, believe me, I tried. Negative feelings, even surrounding a real need for change, will only get you started, but it cannot sustain the perseverance that you will need to see it through. However, the working out of our salvation is a journey of soul work. It is a renewal of our mind and healing of our heart. It is removing the things that weigh us down and hold us back from the life we are meant to live. There are 3 keys to unlocking God's purpose for your life. Make Him Lord over all (We are here for Him and not us) Listen to what the Holy Spirit is teaching you (We must have ears to hear what's being said), remaining humble and teachable Do the things that He has shown us. "We Need to Heal so We Stop Bleeding on Those that Didn't Cut Us." Wisdom Builds- start building new habits to help you heal. 1) Break habits into tiny pieces that can be built on. 2) Anchor your new habit to something established in your routine. 3) Celebrate to build positive feelings with your new habit. Today you will be challenged. You will probably be convicted too. We know many of you have been hearing God calling you to this for some time, but everything in you has resisted. Why the resist? What do you do when you know it's time for SERIOUS rest? And how do you know it's time? With the information-age we live in, taking some bold action steps to start reclaiming some sacred space for you and God - just to listen to His voice of Love- is not going to be handed to you on a silver platter. You will have to act and act quickly.  God does not suggest rest, he commands us to. For those who explore the many faces of rest; silence, solitude, rest, and keeping the Sabbath- there will be much fruit!  John 15:5" I am the vine, and you are the branches. Remain in me as my word remains in you. Apart from me you can do nothing." Listen to Alisa's story of how God got her attention and pulled her into the place of silence and solitude.  BOOKS REFERENCED: The Wellness Revelation: www.RevelationWellness.org/book Switch On Your Brain: https://www.amazon.com/Switch-Your-Brain-Happiness-Thinking/dp/B00F937YH0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1498074030&sr=8-1&keywords=switch+on+your+brain The Gift Of Being Yourself: https://www.amazon.com/Gift-Being-Yourself-Sacred-Self-Discovery/dp/B00SC80GNI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1498074077&sr=8-1&keywords=the+gift+of+being+youThe Gift Of Being Yourself -
