In this week's episode of The Game Informer Show, the crew reveals our next magazine cover story, featuring Final Fantasy XVI, which sent Wesley across the ocean to Square Enix Japan. Afterward, we dive into a 30-minute spoiler-free discussion about The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and share our thoughts on the game. Of course, Hyrule wasn't the only world we explored this week, as Lego 2K Drive and Humanity, created in part by Tetris Effect creator Tetsuya Mizuguchi, were released on May 16. My guest today is the Japanese designer of some of the most transcendent music-themed video games yet made. He graduated with a degree in media aesthetics from Nihon University, then, inspired by a photograph of a virtual reality headset made by NASA, joined Sega hoping to work on a similar project. A keen sports car enthusiast, he developed the arcade racing game Sega Rally Championship then, during a research trip in Switzerland, attended a dance music concert and found himself in a crowd of tens of thousands. Seeing how the music, lights and bodies moved together, set him on a new path toward making full-sensory digital experiences. In 2001 he released Rez, a trance-themed game in which players shoot down computer viruses in time to the beat; it is today widely regarded as one of the high points of digital expression. “I still feel like I am in the middle of my career,” he once told me. “I've only achieved half of what I want to. And I have not lost my excitement about games.” Welcome, Tetsuya Mizuguchi. Thank you for listening to My Perfect Console. If you have ever played Sega Rally Championship, you've undoubtedly heard Kenneth Ibrahim's voice before. Today, Kenneth is a Senior Pipeline Technical Director at Lucasfilm, working on Star Wars animated series. But almost 30 years ago, he served as your trusty co-driver in Tetsuya Mizuguchi's seminal arcade racing classic. Kenneth was gracious enough to join us for nearly two hours of incredible stories, charting his whirlwind start at Sega at the peak of the company's dominance, a career in computer graphics that sent him to Japan and back and, of course, how he wound up calling the shots in the Celica and Delta, much to his surprise. If you love Sega in the '90s, this is one you won't want to miss. Follow Kenneth Ibrahim on Twitter @twittiamo and watch his series, Star Wars: The Bad Batch, on Disney+. It's back! New year craziness and some technical issues brought the game podcast to a halt, and life found a way (to get in the way), but it finally feels like a good time to restart! You'll notice that the games podcast is going to have shorter episodes from now on, both to help make it fit into my schedule, and also because I'm only going to talk about one game at a time. However, it's now fully scripted, so you can read along if you please! Bonus article! This week, I'm trying to put into words the greatness of a new music-based block matching game called ‘Red White Yellow Cruising' on the Nintendo Switch. Bundesnetzagentur not amused. Masta Ace is back!

Jeremy follows up on last year's interview with Enhance Games boss and all-around video game design savant Tetsuya Mizuguchi, this time exploring the origins of musical PSP puzzle masterpiece Lumines. Just in time for the new remaster!
Jeremy speaks with legendary developer Tetsuya Mizuguchi on his start in games, the genesis of Space Channel 5 and Rez, and face-mounted Game Gears. Later, Kishi and Kim Justice join to discuss Metal Gear's anniversary and Fire Pro World, respectively.

Ah oui j'oubliais, podcast PEGI 18+ :)

With only a couple weeks till the hype train leaves the station we take a quick stop to talk about Super TIME Force, Sportsfriends, Kero Blaster, Yo-Kai Watch, the Kinect cut and run, Nintendo's financial results, Project Beast, Tetsuya Mizuguchi returning to video games and more.
The Pokedex lied to me! Apparently, Wailord can fly through space and evolve into Moltres! Thanks, Child of Eden! Grab your +5 Rainbow Staff of Awesome and prepare to Fly Away, because NFR is back to deliver another multitude of multi-platform memoirs courtesy of hosts Donald; Stephen; and Austen. Donald kicks off this week's New Business with a trip down memory lane in Kirby's Dream Collector's Special Edition for the Wii ("Sucking" and "Blowing" puns withheld by special request). Moving from the glacially-evolving to the recently-innovating, we travel to an alternate (and exquisitely cel-shaded) war-torn universe with the critically-beloved (but unfortunately poorly-selling) PS3-exclusive strategy game Valkyria Chronicles. Nowhere else can you see Vyse and Aika from Skies of Arcadia team-up with a bug-obsessed tank commander and his group of misfits to defend their homes from an invasion by Steampunk, ancient magic-wielding Nazis. Afterwards, Stephen takes us to the surprisingly barren Chinese jungles with the recent World of WarCraft: Mists of Panderia expansion, a game best described as Kung Fu Panda meets...Pokemon? As the sun seems to be setting on WoW, we light-up the nighttime sky with the PS2 launch title Fantavision and launch into Spaaaaaaaaaaace with the infuriating Kickstarter-funded space combat Rogue-Like FTL. Further raising the stakes, Austen strikes back with a Rogue-Like of his own with the delightfully bizarre Tokyo Jungle, the only game this Fall to potentially feature a Pomeranian locked in Mortal Kombat with a Velociraptor for control of a post-apocalyptic Tokyo. In case you didn't think this game selection could get any weirder, we follow that up with one Demonic Lord's rubber ducky-fueled quest for Warioware-style vengeance in Hell Yeah! Wrath of the Dead Rabbit. On a more somber note, we then conclude the segment with Austen's thoughts on returning to Tetsuya Mizuguchi's enchanting (and psychedelic) musical opus Child of Eden. Can it be that our harshest critic has a game from this console generation even he can't help gushing about and wishes was on the Wii U? After yet another harrowing journey through the unhinged psyche of the Nintendo World Report Forums with Now Posted, we tune in the latest episode of Watcha Been Watching. Included in this week's programming are titles such as the war-time political drama Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Aaron Sorkin's further decent into madness and mediocrity with The Newsroom, and the apparently-decent Nintendo DS RPG-based anime Sands of Destruction (where the heroes' goal is to destroy the world...kumo). With the recent poor critical reception of Resident Evil 6 on our minds, our Feature Discussion delves into the Future of Japanese Games Development outside of Nintendo. In this new age of globalization and expensive AAA game development, what Japanese studios seem equipped to weather the storm? What future Japanese titles are we looking forward to? What do Japanese studios need to do to become relevant again in the eyes of the rest of the world? All these questions and more may be lightly touched upon in this week's shotgun-style Feature Discussion. As always, we then close the show with our 1ups/Poison Mushrooms, including the needlessly infuriating process involved with downloading anything on the (allegedly) online-savvy PlayStation Vita, the gaming industry's apparent burning desire to kill off single-player gaming as part of their passive-aggressive war on GameStop, and the annoyances of in-game travel time. We're still looking for feedback and questions for Listener Mail, which you can send to nintendofreeradio@gmail.com. You can also post in our thread on the NWR forums, or leave us comments under this post on our website at http://nintendofreeradio.podbean.com. Finally, if you're an iTunes user, be sure to drop us a rating as well so we know what you want to hear on future episodes! NFR will be back in 2 weeks for Halloween, but until then NFR's Journey Will Continue. Keep taking the path less taken and join us! This podcast was edited by Stephen Shook.
