Then we got to a tournament. Tsutomu is having a bad time because apparently cramming practice sessions and then immediately going to a tournament is stressful, who knew?

Can the Lions roar under Ogura? Synopsis: The Straits Times looks at the talking points in sport every second Wednesday of the month. In this episode of Hard Tackle, Deepanraj Ganesan is joined by former Singapore international Noor Ali and Singapore Premier League commentator and Lions fan Zia-ul Raushan to dissect the Singapore national football team's first two matches under new coach Tsutomu Ogura. The Lions played out a hard-fought 2-2 draw against China on March 21 in front of the 28,414 crowd at the National Stadium. Five days later in chilly Tianjin, the Lions fell to a 4-1 loss, although there were signs of progress once again as the Republic showed grit and bravery in their play before being undone by a controversial penalty and two late goals. So what do our pundits make of the start under Ogura and what is the way forward? Highlights (click/tap above): 1:30 Why is there a positive feeling amongst fans despite the Lions not posing a victory against China? 8:30 Noor Ali on how the team has shaped up tactically under Ogura 17:15 The need for stronger mentality amongst players and the importance of leadership 21:00 What Ogura and the Lions can improve on 34:00 On the new standards in the national team and why players must step up Read: https://str.sg/8Kmc Produced by: Deepanraj Ganesan (gdeepan@sph.com.sg) & Amirul Karim Edited by: Amirul Karim Follow ST Sports Talk every month: Channel: https://str.sg/JWRE Apple Podcasts: https://str.sg/JWRa Spotify: https://str.sg/JW6N SPH Awedio app: https://www.awedio.sg/ Website: http://str.sg/stpodcasts Feedback to: podcast@sph.com.sg Follow Deepanraj Ganesan on X: https://str.sg/wtra Read his articles: https://str.sg/ip4G --- Discover more ST podcast channels: COE Watch: https://str.sg/iTtE In Your Opinion: https://str.sg/w7Qt Asian Insider: https://str.sg/JWa7 Health Check: https://str.sg/JWaN Green Pulse: https://str.sg/JWaf Your Money & Career: https://str.sg/wB2m ST Sports Talk: https://str.sg/JWRE #PopVultures: https://str.sg/JWad Music Lab: https://str.sg/w9TX Discover ST Podcasts: http://str.sg/stpodcasts --- Special edition series: True Crimes Of Asia (6 eps): https://str.sg/i44T The Unsolved Mysteries of South-east Asia (5 eps): https://str.sg/wuZ2 Invisible Asia (9 eps): https://str.sg/wuZn Stop Scams (10 eps): https://str.sg/wuZB Singapore's War On Covid (5 eps): https://str.sg/wuJa --- Follow our shows then, if you like short, practical podcasts! #sportstalkSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Aucune sirène d'alarme n'a pourtant retentit. Il remarque alors un petit point noir, une forme étrange qui vient d'être larguée de l'appareil et chute vers le sol. One of the most influential economics of innovation papers from the last decade is “Are Ideas Getting Harder to Find” by Bloom, Jones, Van Reenen, and Webb, ultimately published in 2020 but in earlier draft circulation for years. While the paper is ostensibly concerned with testing a prediction of some economic growth models, it's broader fame is attributable to it's documentation of a striking fact: across varied domains, the R&D efforts necessary to eke out technological improvement keep getting higher. Let's take a look at their evidence, as well as some complementary evidence from other papers. This podcast is a read through of the (initial version of the) article Innovation (mostly) gets harder, published on New Things Under the Sun.Articles mentioned:Bloom, Nicholas, Charles I. Cinquième dossier de Satsujin, sans doute le plus difficile à aborder car l'un des plus atroces.
Tsutomu Myazaki was a monster, he preyed on elementary school aged girls in Tokyo in the late 80's. His crimes include murder, rape, necrophilia, child pornography, and cannibalism. His crimes shocked a nation and caused a public outcry against the Otaku culture in Japan. Warning, this is a dark episode and may contain triggers.
Every week Twisted Two's dives into a pair of uniquely terrifying stories that are worthy of a more in-depth look. For this week, we focus on the brutal and deranged Japanese killer, Tsutomu Miyazaki, also known as the “Otaku Killer” and the case of the missing Ann Marie Burr, and her possible ties with one of America’s most notorious killers. Get ready for Scary Mysteries, Twisted Two’s. Tsutomu Miyazaki People know him now as the “Otaku Killer” because of his love for manga and video games. Tsutomu Miyazaki once lived in Itsukaichi, Tokyo where his father ran a successful local newspaper. Growing up, Tsutomu was bullied because he suffered a deformity in his hand - his wrist joint was missing so his hand was directly attached to his wrist. The incessant bullying caused him to be a loner. From a young age, his family said he always exhibited odd behavior. It didn’t help his parents never listened to his problems and his younger sisters rejected him as a brother. The only person he felt close to was his grandfather. But when his grandfather died in May 1988, it plunged him further into depression. According to him, after his grandfather died, he partially ate his ashes in an effort to “retain something from him.” Ann Marie Burr - Ted Bundy’s First Victim The name Ted Bundy is a familiar one. Many know of his exploits, his crimes, and his “charming” personality. Bundy has been depicted in television shows, talked about in countless articles and documentaries, and his life has been subjected to the film treatment. But do we really know Ted Bundy and his crimes completely? It’s widely accepted among law enforcement officials and crime geeks that Bundy killed his first victim in January 1974, at 27 years old. The first known victim tied to Bundy is 21-year old, Lynda Ann Healy. Healy disappeared in the middle of the night inside her dorm room apartment, space she shared with three other women. For police, the disappearance of the 21-year old college student inside her bedroom was perplexing. There were clues foul play was involved but very little evidence pointing to any suspect. It would be years later, in 1989, when Bundy would confess to abducting then killing her.

For this edition, we are taking a look at the anime movie Akira (1988 film). We'll discuss Katsuhiro Otomo and the many parts he played involving this movie, the Akira characters, try to explain the ending of Akira as it is a bit confusing, give our own Akira movie rating, and more. Akira Quick Plot Summary The movie's main focus is about two young friends in a biker gang, Kaneda and Tetsuo, set in Neo-Tokyo (Tokyo was destroyed in an event only referred to as 'the singularity' which seems very nuclear-like). Tetsuo is captured after a biking accident by the military/government, is experimented on, and develops telekinetic powers. He slowly loses control of his powers and threatens the city of Neo-Tokyo. All the while his friend Kaneda, the leader of the motorcycle gang, tries his best to find him and save him from himself. Both young men are thrust into the chaos and dirty politics that surround the city. As the mysteries of a being known as “Akira” slowly unfold, it becomes more and more difficult for Kaneda to save Tetsuo. Director of Akira - Katsuhiro Otomo Katsuhiro Otomo is best known for writing and directing the film Akira, but he also created the manga of the same name that preceded the movie. He brought to life this controversial, but artistic manga that ended up being one of the most inspirational animes of all time. In addtion, Otomo added his critiques of Japan, it's politics, and culture. We enjoyed Otomo's visual imagery and the animation is still impressive even thirty-one years later. It paints a grotesque picture of what the near future could become. His depiction of Neo-Tokyo is really something - a grand city, vast in technology and civilization; however, the metropolis is riddled with crime, terrorism, and isolationism that many of the citizens experience. The dystopian, cyberpunk styles with bright neon lights and colors all tied together with the soundtrack from Geinō Yamashirogumi and Tsutomu Ōhashi (Shoji Yamashiro) is so eerie that it's almost impossible not to experience chills while watching the film. Particularly when Tetsuo finally begins to embrace his telekinetic powers and casts off on his brutal death rampage of the city. All-in-all, Otomo should be best remembered for introducing anime to mainstream audiences and having the courage to tell a brutally honest, yet, disturbing story of two young men. Akira Characters Shōtarō Kaneda The leader of the bike gang and protagonist. His character is a bit divisive to us. Kaneda's character arch does take a long time to come to fruition in the story. His personality is abrasive and felt one dimensional for the majority of the film, until the end. His whole motivation was machismo oriented and it seemed his sole purpose for doing anything was to be cool and look cool. In addition, Kaneda is kind of a hot head, especially when things don't go his way. It would have been nice to have seen a more in depth explanation of Kaneda and Tetsuo's relationship as a child, but the film didn't give that to us until the very end. While Kaneda is very predictable and has a short temper, it does fit his character's background and age group (I guess we don't really know how old he is as the audience isn't told, but seems most likely he is a mid to late teenager). While his character arch does not reveal itself until the end like we mentioned, it is a positive change for good and was nice to see when it finally came full circle. He is met with a decision of either trying to save his friend or risking further death and destruction to innocent people. Kaneda's arch is a great reflection on human behavior and how people tend to not change until trauma or insight. Also a random side note, his Michael Jackson Thriller outfit deserves a 10, it is absolute fire! Tetsuo Shima Tetsuo is the antagonist of the film. Early perceived as being the weak link of the bike gang and seemingly pushed around by Kaneda,
Domu: A Child’s Dream By Katsuhiro Otomo Way before Stranger Things and before the masterpiece of the Akira anime, there was the psychic horror of 'A Child's Dream' Skip synopsis @ 14:00 contact us at weappreciatemanga@gmail.com Topics: · The cinematic act Structure · How Otomo creates a sense of fear · Otomo’s aesthetic and attitudes towards gentrification Notable Product Placement/Pop Culture reference: · Beeper/pager (patented in 1949 by Alfred J. He meets the landlord who tells him of the suspicious types, the drunk Yoshikawa who is still unemployed after a leg injury, Mrs. Tezuka, a mentally unstable woman in apartment 783 who walks around at night pushing the pram of her dead child. A gigantic man with a mind of a child, nicknamed Little Yo, he was accused of child molestation. Then there’s Shojiro a.k.a old sho, an old senile man who sits outside. We also learn about Tsutomu Sasaki, an underachieving student who still lives with his parents. Yamagawa sends two policemen to patrol at night but one goes missing, his gun is never found. Eventually Yamagawa arrives alone at the complex and confronts the killer. Knowing that the killer is collecting trophies, Yamagawa gives him his pager. The killer is petty and breaks the pager using his psychic powers. Yamagawa runs after the psychic killer. He runs up the tower of apartments and hears the killer prying into his mind. Taunting him on every doubt and teasing him. When Yamagawa makes his way to the roof he finds the door is already open and he hesitates to step forward. There he sees Old Cho playing with the gun as if it were a toy. One morning later, a new kid on the block arrives, her name is Etsuko, during her arrival Old Cho causes a baby to fall from the tower block. The child is saved by Etsuko and having read old cho’s thoughts she tells him off. Etsuko quickly makes friends with the residents but having an affinity for outsiders she chooses to play with Yoshikawa’s son, the lonely Hiroshi and Little Yo. As the sun falls Etsuko quickly makes her way to the shop, during this time Tsutomu Sasaki spends the knife choosing to craft model planes instead of study. Cho takes control of Tsutomu and forces him to confront Etsuko on the elevator, failing to kill her with his craft knife, Tsutomu turns the blade onto himself and cuts through his own neck. Etsuko is hospitalised across the street. After seeing Yamagawa’s ghost, inspector Takayama brings a shaman to the housing complex but the shaman becomes overwhelmed by what she feels, unbeknownst to Takayama, Etsuko is making an attempt on empowering Old Cho from her bed window but is easily distracted by her mother. At night, Yoshikawa is caught under control by Cho and is given the policeman’s gun so to kill Etsuko. Little Yo and Hiroshi do there best to hold him off and protect her whilst she hunts down Old Cho. It becomes clear that Cho struggles to fight her, he decides to create a gas explosion all around the housing complex. Etsuko smashes out the windows but fails to stop one explosion. She almost kills Old Cho but he flees amongst the fire brigade. The building collapses and the stressed-out Etsuko loses her friends within the chaos. She endures an emotional breakdown and kills a fireman in the process. Cho soon disappears and Etsuko returns to her mother. Inspector Takayama has the chance to question Old Cho, but visions of Yamagawa’s ghost pre-empt him. Takayami decides to set him free and watch him from a safe distance, specifically Old Cho’s usual place, the bench by the play area. He watches Old Cho but no one can see that Etsuko is there sat on the swing doing the same. No one except for Old Cho. With a look from Etsuko the killer’s walking stick explodes and the old man finally dies. There is no sign of Etsuko, it’s as if she was never there that day. Tsutomu was born with physically deformed hands that made him look like a vampire, but that wasn't his only resemblance to the evil creature. He would also drink the blood and cannibalize his victims. This however, was only the start to his cruelty. Additionally, he would taunt the victims' families with prank phone calls and by sending them their children's' ashes in the mail. To top it all off, he had a super hero alter ego he called Rat Man, which Tsutomu claimed made him commit the terrible crimes. Vampires that will scare you to death. 5 DISTURBING REAL LIFE VAMPIRES In lore and mythology, vampires are fascinating creatures. Hollywood has come to romanticize the idea of their bloodlust. And while many people enjoy the entertainment value vampire stories bring, a few individuals have taken the concept of becoming immortal to extreme levels. These are 5 Disturbing real life vampires. 5. Rod Ferrell In 1995 15-year old, Rod Ferrell, was a disturbed teen. He developed a taste for the macabre, started taking drugs and practiced witchcraft - saturating himself with death, hate, war and pain. After being enamored by a vampire video game, he founded and headed his own "Vampire Clan," claiming himself to be a 500-year old vampire named Vesago. An aspiring member of the vampire clan was 15 year old Heather Wendorf. She had been living in Eustis, Florida when, Ferrell, together with Charity Keese, Scott Anderson and Dana Cooper – who were fellow members – went for a visit. Rod and Heather had been friends for a while and she allegedly told him that her parents were mistreating her. 4. Mercy Brown – The Vampire Child In 1892, tuberculosis or "consumption," swept through many States. Those inflicted would experience severe fevers, cough up blood, experience sunken eyes and deteriorate physically – as if life was being drained from their bodies. The disease became so widespread that people started believing a sinister force was behind it. Residents soon blamed the presence of the "undead" or vampires, especially in areas like Vermont, Rhode Island and Connecticut. 3. Tsutomu Miyazaki Born in Tokyo in1962, Tsutomu was premature and weighed only 4 and a half pounds. He also suffered a birth deformity causing his joints and hands to be fused. As a result, he couldn't bend his wrists upwards and this deformity caused him great embarrassment and distress as he grew older. In elementary school, he was remembered as a bright but quiet student who had trouble making friends. By High school he lost interest in his studies and began to withdraw - collecting graphic porn videos, slasher films and anime. In May1988, his grandfather, who was the only person who ever showed him support, passed away and that’s when his connection to society and the world was severed. 2. Peter Kurten– The Vampire of Dusseldorf Born in 1883 to a dysfunctional and poor family, Peter was the oldest child. His father was a skilled worker but a severe and sadistic alcoholic that would abuse the family family regularly. By 9, he befriended a dogcatcher who would torture the animals he captured. Peter joined him and willingly tortured and killed animals as well and he also claims to have drowned two of his playmates around this time as well. As he grew older, he would engage in sodomy with animals where he found pleasure in stabbing them while engaged in the act. At 16, he ran away and was embroiled in petty crimes, landing him in prison over and over again. 1. Richard Chase, The Vampire of Sacramento From a young age Richard showed signs of abnormal behavior. He grew up with strict, disciplinarian parents where he would often get beatings from his father. He also bed wet at an older age, started setting fires and tortured animals. In 1968 at 18 years old he moved out of his home because he thought his mother was trying to poison him. He started capturing and torturing animals hoping to cure various delusional ailments. He would consume the animal remains raw or sometimes create "smoothies" by mixing them with Coke and drinking those. Then in 1975, he was admitted to a mental institution when he injected rabbit's blood into his veins. So there were 5 DISTURBING REAL LIFE VAMPIRES Vampirism is not just for the movies but it actually happens in real life and These people are proof. Their delusions drove them to commit sadistic acts, causing pain and harm to many many families.

Time Codes: 00:00:29 - Introduction 00:02:37 - The holidays for Shea and Derek 00:04:30 - Listener mail! 00:11:24 - Tomie: Complete Deluxe Edition 00:55:39 - Blame! Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 01:19:12 - Wrap up 01:20:08 - Contact us It's the final manga episode of the year, and to close out 2016 Shea and Derek discuss a couple of fascinating new editions of older manga. But first they talk about their holiday activities with one another and then go on to share the listener mail they received about their November manga episode. After that, it's manga time! They begin with Junji Ito's Tomie: Complete Deluxe Edition (VIZ Media). This volume brings together all of the previous Tomie stories, initially released in three separate books. As listeners of the podcast may know, Shea and Derek are big fans of Junji Ito, but this is the first time either of the guys have read this series. They point out both the similarities and the differences between this text (especially the early stories) and later Ito works such as Uzumaki and Gyo. Shea is particularly taken by Ito's early, looser illustration style, while Derek focuses on the, at times, goofy scenarios surrounding Tomie. They're weirder than even the most unusual premises you'll find in Junji Ito. After that, the guys turn to Tsutomu Nihei's Blame! This series has also been previously published, but now Vertical Comics is releasing it in new master editions. The second volume was just published this month, and volume 3 is due out in March. So Shea and Derek limit their discussion to the story contained within these first two book. This is an action-heavy manga, and while this kind of graphic storytelling isn't one of Derek's favorites, it's something that Shea absolutely loves. But both guys appreciate the incremental world building and especially Nihei's astounding ability in representing The City, the vast post-apocalyptic landscape in which the story takes place. The bottom line is that both guys love the storyworld and plan to continue reading this series.
