Nick sits down with Chris Cathers, former US Army Green Beret & CIA, and discusses his thoughts on mental health, the military, and young people today. Chris, a self-proclaimed reformed Yankee, gives us his personal take on what it means to leave your mark on the world. You can find this episode wherever podcasts are streamed: Itunes: https://apple.co/3MrPlNE Spotify: http://bit.ly/43dBUGS Guest Bio: Chris Cathers is a former US Army Green Beret and CIA paramilitary Global Response Staff (GRS) contractor with numerous deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan, Palestine, and North Africa. He is a turnaround specialist and operating expert with over 15 years of experience in the manufacturing, defense, and service industries. For years, Chris silently struggled with post-traumatic stress (PTS), depression, and suicidal ideation, fearful that such a diagnosis would negatively impact his career. His symptoms reached the breaking point in 2011, which almost resulted in Chris taking his own life. If not for one of his closest friend Ron Griffin's intervention, Chris would have undoubtedly been among the 22 per day statistics. Chris wants to leave something positive in this world before he goes, regardless of how much time he has left. He has encouraged his military brothers and sisters to seek help immediately and not downplay the signs. Through this documentary, “Brother's Keeper,” Chris and his business partner Daniel aim to raise awareness of the veteran suicide epidemic and destigmatize the subject by openly discussing his personal struggles, sharing the impactful stories of other exceptional veterans, and providing critical resources to warriors who may be battling PTS. As Afghanistan fell to the Taliban, it became clear that there was no plan to evacuate our Afghan allies – including Afghan National Army soldiers who trained and fought alongside the U.S. military. Over two decades, these allies had developed strong bonds with countless American veterans, and now they were being hunted by Taliban death squads. Scott Mann was one veteran who began receiving desperate calls for help from his old Afghan friends, and he decided to take action. Working with other veterans and citizens, they called themselves Task Force Pineapple and quickly developed a network of safe passageways for allies and their families. In just three days, they helped over 500 allies escape from Afghanistan. Scott gives us a thrilling inside account of how the operation happened. We also talk about unconventional warfare, experiences with “Village Stability Operations” in Afghanistan, and what the 20-year war ultimately means for America. Lieutenant Colonel (retired) Scott Mann is a former US Army Green Beret with tours all over the world including Colombia, Iraq, and multiple tours in Afghanistan. He is the author of “Operation Pineapple Express: The Incredible Story of a Group of Americans Who Undertook One Last Mission and Honored a Promise in Afghanistan.” Follow him on Twitter at @RooftopLeader.

US Army Green Beret special operator, Pat Harrigan, is running for the newly-created 14th Congressional district in North Carolina. The Republican candidate says his opponent, NC State Senator Jeff Jackson, will be a vote to advance the agenda of the national Democratic Party - which is already having negative impacts on Americans. "The extreme base of the Democratic party and the policies of the Biden Administration are wrecking an economy that was roaring in years past. Their runaway spending, out of control inflation, crippling energy prices and high taxes are ruining lives right here in Mecklenburg and Gaston Counties." Meanwhile, Democrats worry that they might be overdoing it a bit on the abortion issue. Still in the fight of his life – for his life. That's the real-life story of this week's Team Never Quit guest, Chris Cathers, a former US Army Green Beret and CIA paramilitary Global Response Staff (GRS) contractor with 12 deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan, Palestine and North Africa. And if Chris' PTS struggles weren't enough, Chris speaks openly about the stage 4 bone cancer he has had for over a year. Struggling to find adequate medical care opened his eyes to the difficulty of finding the right team for any aspect of medicine, and he has dedicated himself to encouraging his military brothers and sisters to seek help immediately and not downplay the signs. Chris and his business partner Daniel also aim to raise awareness of the veteran suicide epidemic via a documentary, “Brother's Keeper”, currently in production. Chris has established a nonprofit organization to help raise funds for a small number of other nonprofit and for-profit businesses, committed to giving our veterans a hand in their fight. In this episode you will hear: At one time, I was feeling really good. I was doing protection for celebrities for 5 years, as well as Jiu-Jitsu, MMA, and lifting a lot. My femur was compromised to the point that I was close to snapping it. I always prepare myself for the worst and hope for the best. You have to advocate for yourself, or you won't have a good success rate. Unfortunately with what I've got, radiation & chemo doesn't work. It's more of a Hail Mary. My wife calls me a cockroach. “Man, this guy's stubborn.” Sports is what kept me on the right path. I feel like a sheepdog – I like to keep the wolves at bay. I really enjoy protecting people. If I would redline my body, all the “noise” would settle down. Doing something bigger than you has always been a calling for me. Initially, my outlook wasn't great - 29% and the 5-year survival rate wasn't good. I'm a patriot and I love our country, I think we're the best country on the planet, but we're doing our damnedest to fuck it up. That's not acceptable to me. We didn't think we could have children, 1 - I'm old as dirt and I'm stage 4. So we were not planning on having a child, but… Comparison is the thief of joy. Beau and Tom also talk a bit about reaching out to the SOF community to gather information for the book. ABOUT THREE WISE MEN: From Beau Wise and Tom Sileo comes Three Wise Men, an incredible memoir of family, service and sacrifice by a Marine who lost both his brothers in combat--becoming the only "Sole Survivor" during the war in Afghanistan.Shortly after the 9/11 attacks, three brothers by blood became brothers in arms when each volunteered to defend their country. No military family has sacrificed more during the ensuing war, which has become the longest ever fought by America's armed forces. While serving in Afghanistan, US Navy SEAL veteran and CIA contractor Jeremy Wise was killed in an al Qaeda suicide bombing that devastated the US intelligence community. Less than three years later, US Army Green Beret sniper Ben Wise was fatally wounded after volunteering for a dangerous assignment during a firefight with the Taliban. Ben was posthumously awarded the Silver Star, while Jeremy received the Intelligence Star—one of the rarest awards bestowed by the U.S. government—and also a star on the CIA's Memorial Wall.TOM SILEO: Tom Sileo is co-author of THREE WISE MEN, 8 SECONDS OF CSupport the show (https://www.patreon.com/theprotectors)

He advised the President of Mali in counter-terrorism infrastructure and directed friendly forces in uncertain combat environments. Today Chris embraces the sound of silence in the great outdoors: he founded Azimuth Consulting Group to facilitate leadership workshops and non-traditional, adventure-based, leadership development. This series is produced by The Human Impact Studio of TA Group Holdings, a veteran-owned firm, in partnership with NuWest Healthcare which is staffing hundreds of travel nurses for the coronavirus response across the nation.
