It's been a massive month for Paralympian Jaryd Clifford. Fresh off breaking his own World Record in the T12 1500m, Jaryd joins Elise Beacom to talk about his race in Nice, France, where he ran 3:40.34 in a return to career-best form. Jaryd also speaks out about his competitor, Spanish athlete Yassine Ouhdadi who's recently been handed a three-year suspension after testing positive for banned anabolic steroid, Clostebol. Ouhdadi won gold in the T13 5000m at the Paris Paralympics and will forfeit his medal because the test sample was taken before the games. Yassine Laghzioui, CEO of UM6P Ventures and Director of Entrepreneurship at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University, joins The Grinders Table to discuss building Africa's innovation ecosystem through deep tech investment. When Yassine chose to return to Morocco while his peers stayed abroad, he embarked on a journey to transform how innovation happens in Africa. In this conversation, he shares why Africa doesn't need "savers" but rather builders and executors, how constraints drive innovation more effectively than abundance, and why he believes Africa will become a global leader in deep tech within the next decade. We explore Yassine's philosophy that "entrepreneurship is not a job, it's a mindset," his approach to identifying promising deep tech founders in environments with limited data, and why he's particularly excited about Africa's potential in agricultural technology and green tech. This episode offers valuable insights for entrepreneurs, investors, and anyone interested in the future of innovation in emerging markets.

While Alzheimer's disease isn't curable, research shows it may be preventable or postponable by controlling lifestyle factors like diet. Yet, with so many types of diets emerging, it's hard to know what's a fad and what lifestyle changes can actually support brain health. USC's Dr. Hussein Yassine joins Being Patient live talks to answer questions about how diet affects brain health. Yassine is an associate professor at USC's Keck School of Medicine. His research is focused on the intersection of neurology and nutritional sciences. At Yassine Lab, his team studies how lipids — particularly omega-3 fatty acids — affect Alzheimer's disease. He's also the director of USC Center for Personalized Brain Health, launched in 2023 to build research on the APOE gene and the role of fatty acids in the brain to advance personalized health to cut Alzheimer's risk. Watch this live talk to learn more about how diet impacts the brain and, ultimately, Alzheimer's risk.
