What if the injury that wrecked your plans was actually the most precise thing the universe ever did for you? Koya Webb was a nationally ranked heptathlete...13th in the country.... Seven events.... The Olympics were a real, scheduled destination. Then, mid-stride walking to class, her back said no. Not a pulled muscle. A full stop. What followed wasn't a detour. It was a download. In this conversation, Koya unpacks what most of us in the wellness space refuse to admit: that the body isn't just a vehicle, it's a spiritual instrument. And it will use pain, injury, grief, and exhaustion to force the conversation you've been too busy to have.We get into the three emotional states that govern every decision you make (and why most of us are stuck in survival mode way more than we realize), why breathwork might be the most underused healing tool on the planet, and what it actually looks like to surrender to darkness instead of just trying to outrun it.Koya also gets vulnerable about losing her mother unexpectedly, breaking a glass in her hand and watching herself bleed without feeling anything, and how that moment cracked open a depth of healing she didn't know she needed. This one hits different. You've been warned. In this episode:How a stress fracture became the most inconvenient divine intervention in sports historyThe three neuroemotional states (survival, emotional, executive) and how to tell which one is running your lifeWhy "surrendering to the darkness" isn't giving up. It's how real healing startsThe conscious connected breath technique Koya calls "breath healing," and why she uses it every single morningWhy longevity starts with self-love, not your supplement stackWhat to do when you're afraid that if you fall into the darkness, you won't come back outAbout Koya WebbKoya Webb is a globally recognized holistic wellness expert, longevity specialist, and transformational speaker. Racing thoughts, rumination, wired and tired. All of these are top complaints about sleep disturbances. Have you been there? Physically, mentally and emotionally exhausted and yet incapable of shutting down the racing thoughts in order to get to sleep. It's not your fault but it is within your control. And that's our Work IN today. We're going to explore top down and bottom up tools to win the race to sleep and master the art of recovery. Sleep is the ultimate tool for recovery. Built into every single day, sleep is when every system in the body repairs and resets itself for the next day. But it is nearly impossible to get to sleep by simply telling yourself to go to sleep. In fact in many cases that thought alone is guaranteed to keep you awake. What if the way our body and mind is responding to our day is exactly right and makes complete sense? What if instead of fighting it we made a subtle shift to work with the body. Instead of stressing ourselves out about getting to sleep we focused on mastering recovery. As a part of my mission to bring a legacy of resilience through movement, each month you can join me for a hike on the bike trail followed by a free trauma informed vinyasa class back at the studio on Main Street. This chapter serves as a foundation for understanding the eternal nature of the soul (Atman) and the importance of non-attachment in the face of life's challenges. Let's look at Arjuna's emotional turmoil and Krishna's tough love approach, emphasizing the need for inner stability and the acceptance of life's transient nature. The emphasis on the immortality of the soul, the significance of understanding one's Dharma, and the win-win perspective in life. This chapter literally has all of Krishna's essential teachings. Once you decide that yes you CAN make yourself healthy again, it's time to get started in a  place that will give you a strong foundation and quick win. But where? There's a story Debra Adele tells in her book The Yamas and Niyamas about a helpful monkey who grabs a fish out of the water and takes him up into the tree. As the fish dies the monkey laments, “But I saved you from drowning!” Sometimes the things we do for our health seem like they should help but they can actually make it harder for us to succeed in the long term. One of those things is going cold turkey on anything.  It's so tempting to try to change everything all at once. Tempting and unnecessary. And for some people it ends up being an exercise in frustration and failure. When it comes to getting healthy for the long haul what we really want is lifestyle renovation. Just like in any good renovation project the starting place is often with the cleanup. That's our Work IN today. How do we support the changes we want and clear our path to health and fitness results? Most of us have some idea of what is healthy and what isn't, many of us probably have already started introducing some of those things. We might even be aware of the things that we are “supposed” to stop doing in order to be healthier. Some are obvious like smoking, drug or alcohol use, or junk/fast food. There are many ways that our modern lifestyle supports and even rewards unhealthy habits. We're going to look at 3 of these areas and some of the small bite size changes that can lead to big results. As a part of my mission to bring a legacy of resilience through movement, each month you can join me for a hike on the bike trail followed by a free trauma informed vinyasa class back at the studio on Main Street. For new fit pros fresh off certification it can be very scary building a student base from scratch. Most certs don't teach you how to do that. So a lot of us end up working for someone else and getting churned and burned out of the industry because it's almost impossible to make a living wage from only instructor hourly pay from big box gyms. Not to say it can't be done. But let's just say that's why for so many fit pros the fitness gig is the ultimate side gig and never really rises to the level of a career. But what if you want more than a side gig? Group exercise prescription has become the faceless assembly line of the fitness industry. Branded plug and play format companies have taken the place of creative freestyle instructors in pursuit of a baseline of quality control. Instructors don't even get to choose their music. So instead of connection, customization and results, students get performance choreography and instructors risk overuse injuries and a dumbing down of their talent to fit the masses. This attitude in the fitness industry that the person at the front of the room doesn't matter, it's the workout that matters and anyone can deliver it, is one of the things that drives instructors out of wellness. I want to change that. It's time to elevate the fitness professional with gold standard skills. Welcome back to our series on the koshas. We've discussed Annamaya, our physical body layer, pranamaya kosha our energetic/breath layer, manomaya kosha our mental layer and last week we discussed Vijnanamaya kosha. Our wisdom layer. That objective witness to everything in and around us. Today we wrap up this series with the 5th and innermost kosha, Anandamaya kosha. This layer is described as a steady state of bliss  and in many traditions our true self. Our work IN today is a discussion of what that means for all of us mere mortals and the difference between the feeling of bliss and the experience of bliss. As a part of my mission to bring a legacy of resilience through movement, each month you can join me for a hike on the bike trail followed by a free trauma informed vinyasa class back at the studio on Main Street.
