Ellen Frost, owner of Local Color Flowers in Baltimore, joins host Jennie Love for a five part series focused on key drivers of flower math for floral shops. An informative listen for both florists and growers! In Part 1 of the Flower Math series, we dive into price per stem and how what a grower is charging a florist wholesale gets amplified through the mark up process. The price per stem has a huge impact on the profitability of both a flower shop and a farm. How do florists consider price per stem as they shop? What are the right choices to make your flower shop profitable? Mentioned in this podcast was a flower shop accounting handbook, which we thought was from AIFD. Turns out it's from SAF (Society of American Florists) and you can access it for free here. Ellen and Jennie both teach online courses that may be valuable to your floral business. Here is a link to Ellen's course and here is a link to Jennie's courses. Ellen also has a YouTube channel and a valuable weekly education email. This podcast is brought to you by the Philadelphia Floral Guild, where we're building community around sustainable local flowers. If you're a florist in the Philadelphia area, we'd love to have you shop with us! Click here to learn how. Not a Philadelphia area florist? Look for flower farms near you on the Rooted Farmers website or through localflowers.org. Why use local stems? You'll hear a lot about that throughout this podcast series but here's a few of the reason: Less Shrink: Without the stress of a long ride in the global supply chain, our stems are superior in quality with much less breakage and far better hydration. Less Labor: Our growers do all the work of a studio assistant, stripping stems and making fresh cuts on stems that go directly into water and never leave a water source. This means you do not have to process anything! Less Trash: There are no boxes, packing paper, bubble wrap, box straps, plastic sleeves, and all the other usual trash that comes with a flower delivery from the traditional wholesaler. Less Carbon Burned: Imported flowers in the US typically travel 2,500 or more miles in refrigerated planes, trucks and boats to reach you.

This week Dr. Jasser looks at the Islamist terror attack and assassination attempt against Salman Rushdie. He will answer questions very few have addressed. What in God's name will it take to get the West unsettled? How this attack in more ways than one demonstrates how miserably the West has let its guard down. Why free speech is central battlefront against political Islam and its global jihad. How do the domestic and global military and theological fronts in the war of ideas against Islamists in Iran all come to head in what happened to Sir Salman Rushdie. Why does France put Britain and the rest of the West to shame in how they have finally confronted Islamism. Zuhdi also looks at CAIR's loss in the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in its efforts to muzzle and punish a professor of politics and terrorism at Scottsdale Community College. Why should all anti-jihadist activists be unsettled by the attack and its muted fallout? Keywords: Salman Rushdie, Iran, Khomeini, Fatwa, Hadi Matar, free speech, terrorism, Islamism, political Islam, Islamists, liberty, CAIR, AIFD, Zuhdi Jasser, terrorism Learn more about your ad choices. Rabbi Michael Beyo and Dr. Adrian McIntyre talk with M. Zuhdi Jasser, MD, the Founder and President of the American Islamic Forum for Democracy and the author of “A Battle for the Soul of Islam: An American Muslim Patriot's Fight to Save His Faith.” A first-generation American Muslim, Jasser's parents fled the oppressive Baath regime of Syria in the mid-1960's for American freedom. A devout Muslim, he and his family have strong ties to the American Muslim community having helped lead mosques in Wisconsin, Arkansas, Virginia and Arizona. In the wake of the 9/11 attacks on the United States, Jasser and a group of American Muslims founded AIFD which promotes Muslim voices for liberty and freedom through the separation of mosque and state. They believe the root cause of Islamist terrorism is the ideology of political Islam (Islamism) and a belief in the supremacy of the Islamic state. AIFD's primary projects include the Muslim Liberty Project and the Muslim Reform Movement, which was launched in December 2015 and is comprised of a coalition of over 15 Western Muslim Leaders from the US, Canada, and Europe. Catch this week's can't miss episode where Dr. Jasser asks: what planet the folks at Marvel and DC Comics are on where it makes sense to launch a new American Muslim woman superhero named Isis! Yes, a Muslim superhero might be a great idea but only if charged with leading a global revolution of reform to defeat radical Islamists and their governments. Zuhdi will also reveal a landmark study from 2011 that showed the tipping point of social idea change to be 10 percent of the population. So he asks, where are today's essential cultural icons from the music, film, and arts industries in the battle against the global establishment of Islamism's theocracy? Islamists who dominate Muslim communities barely have 10 percent support of U.S. Muslims. With an awakening of the other 90 percent demanding reform, American Muslims could shift the global consciousness against the Islamists. Where are the Muslim Superstars? Keywords: Marvel, ISIS, DC Comics, Guggenheim, superheros, humanities, music, hollywood, islamism, muslims, culture, muslim reform, zuhdi jasser, revolution, syria, blaze radio, tcot, AIFD, establishment, disruption.
