Transcript included below…As I string these words together, I've just come from a musical rehearsal I've been leading, where I simply tried to do too much with the limited time I had. I felt my emotional intensity rising as I glanced at the clock, knowing that there would not be enough time to do the remainder of the songs well. What was I trying to do?  Well, with my musical creativity, I brought several untested exercises and some creative musical tools into the mix, and really, the task list was already pretty long.I knew, in the back of my mind, that things were much more hectic and rushed because I had tried to cram too much additional optional musical activity into the early part of the rehearsal.How in the world could I have done this more effectively?  Well, upon reflection, I am noticing two words: “untested” and “optional.”  Both of those words need to be carefully examined. The reality is that if something is untested, it can be super fun, but it might not be “wired tight,” so to speak.  And before we know it, we've run long and have shortened the remaining time for other elements.If something is “optional” it needs to be considered a possibility, but also a lower priority. Perhaps I could have tested and timed the exercises, and then lined them up with the time that I knew would be taken up by other required activities for the rehearsal.It's really nothing that a simple stopwatch couldn't have solved, along with a bit of repetition to hone in on what was possible and/or needed.The Law of Diminishing ReturnsHave you ever come across that phrase?  In basic terms, if we keep everything constant (including a timeframe) but increase the amount of things we want to get done in that timeframe, we'll eventually reach a point where we will be less productive. We'll hit a point on a graph where things will actually start to diminish, instead of increase.So under those circumstances, “more” eventually results in “less.”But here's the thing.  It can be hard to know where that point is, until we hit it. It's sort of like an invisible laser that triggers an alarm.  Once we cross that point of trying to do too much in too short of an amount of time, we know it, but it can often be too late.  Often, the resulting side effects are frustration and stress.And not just for us.  This can also happen for our collaborators.If time had not been so limited in that rehearsal, we would have been able to get a lot more done, in an unhurried fashion, and those untested and optional elements I had brought to the conversation would likely have fit into the mix.But as I mentioned, the timeframe was a constant – it was a limited amount of time where after a certain point, everyone needed to leave. Something had to give.  And it's my opinion, having learned from this, that it makes more sense…to often do less.  And what are some environments where we can err on the side of “Less is more?”  Let's talk about several.The Worship Team RehearsalThis is a group of people, paid or unpaid, who gather to rehearse in some worship tunes.The important question to ask is, “Does the band know the tunes?”I suppose there are varying degrees of how well a band knows songs.  They could have a cursory knowledge, having listened to them on the way to rehearsal. By contrast, they could have them memorized forwards and backwards, to where they could jump in at any point and find their way in seconds.Let's say the band is planning to rehearse songs that are pretty familiar to them. In this scenario, they have 5 songs to prepare, and their rehearsal allows for 90 minutes.  They would still have a 1-hour run-thru to look forward to on Sunday where they would finalize the songs, but the goal of this rehearsal is to help the band gel together.There are all kinds of potential variables, but let's say they know each other well and have played together a lot. Let's say that the songs are average length – 4 or 5 minutes, and that they don't present too many potential pitfalls with odd keys or time signature changes, but that some of the band members haven't played a few of the songs very much. How much time to spend on these five songs?  If I were leading that band, I'd budget a total of 15 minutes per song.  10 minutes for working out any elements that needed to be worked out, and 5 minutes for a final pass. So with an opening prayer and a quick sound check, we'd be 10 minutes or so into the rehearsal, if everyone lands on time. Then, we could spend about 50 minutes working the set, dialing in some of the subtleties. That's our first hour.  I'd open it up for questions at that point, and then if everyone was all good, we'd run the set, maybe with some simple verbal cues as placeholders (announcements, sermon, etc.)  and then as the set wraps up, we'd have a moment to close in prayer and pack up, keeping the rehearsal at an hour and a half.But what has the potential to compromise this infrastructure so that we actually run out of time?Well, there are all kinds of possibilities.  Someone could arrive late, someone could be unprepared and need extra coaching, there could be a crisis that needed to be prayed over.We could have a tech glitch – ever had one of those?  Troubleshooting can eat into the rehearsal time.  Or maybe there's a totally new song that warrants extra time, like twice as much as any of the others.If we only have enough time to get everything done if the scenario is perfect, we could be setting ourselves up for some frustration.  Better to leave a little margin, or at least to know what the team is capable of, as we plan.And if we need to run long with the rehearsal, we would do well to make sure everyone buys in on that. If a rehearsal ends on time but there's still work to do, I always take the measure of making sure everybody knows what they need to be working on in anticipation of Sunday.If absolutely necessary, a song can be cut from the set at some point.  We don't need to chase perfectionism, but we do need to work within the time parameters.The Worship ServiceWhen we get to Sunday, I don't like to add anything new.  I've done this, and it has either resulted in the band struggling, or at the very least, technicians who feel put on the spot because they thought they had the whole picture handled.Some people love a last-minute change, but not the technicians I've served with.  They're doing their best to accommodate multiple variables, and adding something last minute does not equip them well.The only change I might make to a Sunday morning, as mentioned a moment ago, would be to cut a song.  But I'd do this with the buy-in from everyone from pastoral leadership to technicians, so no one is surprised by the change.It's much easier to remove an element than to add one.The Professional Band PracticeThis could refer to a cover band, a house band, or a bluegrass band, but you get the picture. A professional band has a similar paradigm, but there's a bit of a higher bar that's set for preparation and execution.  Given the same amount of time, they will likely get through more material.But here's the thing – there's an additional level beyond technical proficiency with these songs; it's the ability to perform the songs well. Working the song set with transitions, angles, and all those things that help make a concert dynamic, and it's something I learned from performance coach Tom Jackson.Even some of the most seasoned bands out there don't dedicate time to cultivating the nuances of their live show. Sure, they play their songs, and often very, very well…but much of the audience, in the words of Tom Jackson, doesn't know whether the performer is singing High C or drinking Hi-C.  The audience just came to enjoy a great performance.So, if the pro band has 90 minutes (which may only be a quick rehearsal), they may have 10 memorized songs in hand.  If they run each song once, they may stay under an hour.  But the remainder of the time could be spent working onstage interaction: visual handoffs, humorous moments, and more.It's my conviction that a rehearsal is a great opportunity to do some next level work beyond the solo practice, so the better prepared the individuals can be, the further the group can go.The Solo Practice TimeSpeaking of, a solo practice time is a different paradigm.  We're not influenced by collaborators when we practice alone.  And we may not choose to ask as much of ourselves as we work out our skills and repertoire in our “man cave” or studio.Perhaps a beginning guitarist can commit to 15 minutes.  I'll ask a loaded question – would it make sense to try to get through four songs in that timeframe?  Nope.I'd say a good strategy here would be a couple warmups or stretches (3 minutes) some skill-building exercises with strumming, chords, or fingerpicking (7 minutes), ending with a song that's already gaining momentum (5 minutes.)  Finishing with actual music is very rewarding and reminds us why we're doing what we're doing.A more advanced guitarist could simply scale this approach to 30 or 60 minutes. I would keep warmups and stretches at just a few minutes, but maybe focus more on technique (perhaps 20 minutes), ending with repertoire building. Side note: it's always good to expand our repertoire, but also good to work on our existing repertoire, to keep it fresh.So, less can be more in a solo practice time.The ConcertDepending on the number of performers, the variety of skills available, and the attention span of the audience, there can be a wide range of what is offered at a concert.  I'll speak personally from my shows in a few different settings.When I had a band, it made sense to use the band for most of the time, but for one or two songs, a piano ballad could “cleanse the palate.” My drummer was actually gifted with a very good tenor voice, so we surprised the audience when he set down his sticks and sang some harmonies.But in general, the band show was pretty streamlined to be a three-piece with me on guitar, and then my bass player and my drummer. In those years of touring, it made logistical sense to have that simple setup, and to use what we had to present some dynamic and groove contrasts.But when I went solo, which has become the majority of my career, I broke into more sonorities, because I was just one man up there.If I played for a focused adult audience with a long attention span, I'd use fewer instruments, like guitar, hammered dulcimer, and maybe piano.But if I played for a young audience, like a school assembly or a group of wiggly young campers, I knew that I needed to be constantly changing the focus. To this end, I used a loop station (a recording device for live performance) that involved multiple implements (percussion, Boomwhackers – which are pitched percussion tubes, and some hand rhythms on my guitar).  I also sang into the sound hole of the guitar and stacked my voice.Add to this the element of audience participation (whether with people “naming that tune” or actually coming up onstage for a musical exercise that was fun and message-driven), and I had quite the varied show.But there was a price to be paid.  And it was a car filled to the top with gear…sometimes including a portable sound system.  And as I've learned, not only does equipment have a monetary cost, it also bears a set up and tear down cost, to say nothing of load-in and load-out.This has made those multi-faceted performances a labor of love, because not only am I pivoting after every song to a different instrument or piece of technology, I also need to rehearse more at home to make sure those transitions are solid.I now mix my live show from stage, so the 16-channel mixer is something I'd also classify as an instrument.  I'm constantly muting and unmuting channels, depending on which instrument I'm playing.  So I have to ride the wave and check myself. In addition to playing the guitar, I also play piano, hammered dulcimer, banjo, and the Chapman Stick, and I can do some acappella songs as well with my looping technology.  I don't typically bring all my instruments to a show.  I usually leave one or two out – but not my voice, of course.I'm also always evaluating my performance to see which elements need to be added or taken away.Why?  So that I can bring something different to the venue next time and because…less is more.It's been possible for me to hold my audience's attention with far less gear, when I haven't had a choice.  How do I know this?  Because I've flown to some shows, where I could only bring a guitar case, a suitcase, and a shoulder bag.  That's a very different capacity from a full SUV.The Lord gives us what we need to do His will. We also need to be sensitive to what would be appropriate to the venue.  And really, even some of my venues will have perpetual wigglers in the crowd, because they're all sugared up with root beer floats they just consumed before my show, etc.  Even all my gear and all my fast songs might not be enough to accommodate their attention span.It doesn't all rest on me, but I do try to find that fine line in a solo concert where I'm blessing the audience and not wearing myself out.  I like to be “good tired” after a show.The ShowcaseOccasionally, I'll be added to a mix where I get to play just one or two songs, and that's it.  My time slot is 5 or maybe 10 minutes because I'm sharing the stage with half a dozen other performers who have a similar allotment. This could be at a conference where multiple presenters are part of a general session.  I've done this many, many times.I also know that there are college showcases where people register as performers, pay some good money and travel a good distance, so as to be up in front of college recruiters who are looking for talent to share with their students.  I haven't gone this route, because although I've played for a few colleges, it's not my main target audience. But the time slot for these kinds of things could be as little as one song, maybe two.So, what's my mindset for a showcase?  Pack as much into those two songs as possible?  Maybe.  But a better thought would be contrast.What could I do between those songs, or even in the middle of one of those songs, to show different sides of what I can offer?Think about your songs for a moment, and consider which songs might exhibit different sides of your lyricism, technique, tongue-in-cheek humor, or whatever you think the audience might appreciate. My most recent showcase was for the Christian Musician Summit, a conference that has been around since the early 2000s, and for which I've taught since 2007.I had 15 minutes.  And guess what?  My audience was all musicians.  Talk about intimidating.  Many of them were professionals.I started out with an original song called “Satisfied” to warm up the crowd, then played a tongue-in-cheek blues song I wrote called “Blues for Lazarus,” and then finished with my rendition of “The Little Drummer Boy,” mostly because Christmas was right around the corner.My song choices allowed for different tones, tempos, techniques, and even looks.  But they were all on the guitar. By tones, I mean joyful, clever, and innovative.By tempos, I mean upbeat, medium, and intense.By techniques, I mean strumming with a partial capo and palm muting, then touch-style blues, then “August Rush”-style Christmas tapping.As for looks, my first song began with me standing at a boom mic, and then I switched to a headset mic, for which I sat on a stool to play the second song, and then I stood with the headset mic for the third song.Did you catch it?  All three songs were with just one guitar.  No instrument switching.  I was very limited by time and instrumentation, but I offered a lot of contrast.   Each song felt totally different...all within the limitations of just my guitar and my voice.And the audience was very appreciative.So, the showcase seemed to be a great place where “less” was “more.”The Artistic InterpretationSeveral years ago, there was a viral video out there of a drummer who played on the Hillsong song “Oceans (Where Feet May Fail).”  Bless this guy – he could play those drums.But there was something about how he played that seemed out of alignment with the script of the song.  There's an instra break about 2/3 of the way through where the band takes over, but this guy really took over.  I mean, he played as many notes as he could.His interpretation, in my opinion, was too much.I like when a musician plays less at times, because they can. Brian Reding, my producer, who is also one of our guest experts in my online guitar experience called GuitarSuccess4U said in our interview that it actually takes more skill and experience not to play. It takes more courage.  It's easy to just play a bunch of notes.  Playing less sometimes takes more effort.So, depending on the song, there could be room for “less” musical articulation, so as to let the song “breathe” a bit more.  It depends on the song, but the first step is looking and listening for opportunities not to play.  That way, when we do play, it means more.The Songwriting SessionThere's a rather intense phrase out there that says “Kill your darlings.”  But where it gets its roots is in literature.  Sir Arthur Quiller-Couch and Stephen King, both writers, basically said we need to get used to the idea that not everything we create needs to be shared…at least not in its current state.It's ok to create – don't misunderstand this – we need to create as much as we feel called to create.  But certain things need to be prioritized in terms of how much they are brought forward and presented to an audience…especially when they're not ready.Some of these creations need to be re-shaped.  Someone once told me, “Great songs aren't written; they are re-written.” Imagine if some of the greatest songs out there had been recorded only in their first draft form.  I reckon that the quality of these offerings might be significantly lower.I know this, because as a songwriter, I know what it's like to stare at a version of an original lyric or progression and say to myself, “It's good…but I know the best version of this is not here yet.”I wrote a song for my father called “I'll Tell You Now.”  It's a very reflective fingerstyle ballad about telling our loved ones that we love them…while there's still time.As I wrote this song, I went through revision after revision.  I woke up at 3 a.m. with the third verse.  When the song finally coalesced into its finished form, I had made 13 drafts to get it right.I had to “kill” each of the previous revisions so that it could be recreated as a subsequent draft.  But it was worth it.I was in a songwriting workshop where the presenter said that some people have brought him their songs and said, “God gave me this song,” to which the songwriting coach has harshly responded, “I see why – He didn't want it anymore.”Ouch.But sometimes we need a bit of a reality check to realize that not everything we write comes out perfect at first.And this can lead us to yet another instance where “less is more.”The AlbumI'm not sure if you aspire to record an album, but it can be the culmination of an artist's efforts.As of this episode, I've recorded and recouped four professional albums.On an album, there can be wonderful contrasts where some songs have full textures and others are more minimal…and yet, they all still feel like they come from the same artist.My latest album kicks off with an easy shuffle medium tempo tune, then moves into a full-tilt funk tune.  Then, I have a world-beat reflective tune, and then the fingerstyle ballad, “I'll Tell You Now,” which I alluded to earlier. All of these songs sound like me. What has had the most impact on people?  I've gotten a ton of positive feedback on the fingerstyle ballad.  Brian Reding, whom I mentioned earlier, produced my album and provided all the instruments besides my guitar and piano.He had to do very little with “I'll Tell You Now”…mostly some gentle keys, cello, and a little synth.  We didn't even do background vocals.  Less was more.I'm always wary of producers who want to add instrumentation and extra vocals just to fill the texture.  This can lead to over-producing.James Taylor, a guitarist and singer/songwriter whom I've followed for many years, included some rather poignant liner notes in one of his albums as he expressed his gratitude to the players on the record.He said: “Thanks for the notes you played, and for the notes you didn't play.”Again, for some of the songs, less was more.So, if you've got a production mindset and want to record an album, do a lot of listening – to your own stuff, but also to the musicians whose music you admire.And then look for ways to peel back layers and reengage the ears of your listener as you arrange the songs for recording, sometimes with full textures, sometimes with sparse textures.When Less is Less and More is MoreI realize that by closing this discussion with a contradictory argument, I may be undoing what I've been putting together today, but hear me out.There's something to be said for variety.Some performances incorporate literally hundreds of onstage musicians, to say nothing of the vast technical support they need behind the scenes.These people are capable of variety.If all I do is play instrumental guitar, I can still present variety in my fingerstylings.If I'm more of a ballad musician, I can still bring lighthearted moments to add variety my song sets.But once in a while, it's important to add something to the mix just to change it up.  Remember how I mentioned that my drummer sang harmonies?  That's adding more.Doing a multi-generational concert as a solo artist sometimes takes more – more gear, more transitions, more contrasts.  But it does help keep the audience engaged.It's all about meeting the paradigm head on and doing what you do…well.The German philosopher Johann Wolfgang von Goethe once said, “It is working within limitations that mastery reveals itself.”  If we have limitations, perhaps that's an opportunity for our mastery to be cultivated and revealed.So, as you look at your scenario for music, whether it's the worship team rehearsal, the worship service, the professional band practice, the solo practice time, the concert, the showcase, the artistic interpretation, the songwriting session, or the album, perhaps today's discussion has helped shed some light on where you can focus.And perhaps you'll find darlings to kill, or at least words or notes to re-finesse, so that you can make things just right.  Be ok with saying “no” to adding some things to the mix, so as to avoid the point of diminishing returns.But don't forget to have – you know it – serious fun.Hey, leave me a comment if something about this episode rang true for you.  I'd love to hear from you.Thanks for reading Guitar Serious Fun! Joensuulainen Ilja Teppo on viihteen moniottelija. Hän on laulaja-lauluntekijä, kulttuurin -ja teatterintuottaja ja ennen kaikkea timanttisen kova esiintyjä. Ob izgubi svojega najbližjega, svojega ljubljenega, potrka k tebi praznina. V družini te podpirajo otroci, vnuki, tudi ti jih. A neke vrste puščava se razteza okrog tebe in v tebi. Tako se zazdi. Ljudje se trudijo, da bi pomagali. Na stotine načinov, a kot da ne morejo do tebe. V nekem delu zavesti se avtomatično pojavi hvaležnost, ker je toliko pozornosti, prijaznosti, poskusov pomagati. Pa nekako ostajaš v samotnih, praznih širjavah. Oziraš se za tišino, prosiš za mir, ko lahko tišina govori, ko vanjo stopajo spomini, ki z vso močjo, neustavljivo silijo v tvojo bolečino. Pride mi na misel, da imam tam v zgornjih delih omare albume. Res je tudi množica fotografij na računalniku, a mi v zdajšnjem počutju računalnik nekako ne ustreza. Le za nujne, neodložljive stike. Albumi. Pred menoj so. Vem, da bo v vsakem od njih zgodba, da bodo močni spomini. Me bodo na novo boleli? Previdno si jih želim priklicati v sedanjost. Zavedam se, da so povezani z njim, ki je odšel tja v nebeško prostranost. Vem pa tudi, da ta prostranost sega na neki nov način, še ne dobro udomačen, v moj zdajšnji svet. Tudi najini spomini so vpisani v ta mozaik večnosti. Odpiram strani. Koliko lepega smo doživeli, kako smo desetletja gradili močno prijateljstvo, ga oblikovali tudi z zaupanjem ob svojih padcih, uspehih in neuspehih, osebni in skupni rasti. Dragoceno je in ni minilo, me prešine. Za prijatelje si je treba čas vzet', je naša skupna pesem. Nekje ob globeli praznine zaznavam sence prijaznih, prijateljskih podob, ki ljubeče ponujajo roko. Vabijo, da zlezeš ven. Ne vedo, da ne moreš. V tišini se kdaj zasliši Božji glas, ki vabi, da se samo premakneš, narediš korak. Prijatelji mislijo dobro. Zelo počasi zmorem. Zdaj še ne z vsemi. Hvaležna sem zanje, za vse, počasi se bom vrnila. Tu sem, Gospod, tu sem in si želim slišati, kaj Ti hočeš, kaj je zdaj moje poslanstvo. Ljudje lahko pričakujejo drugače, a tudi če me ne razumejo, tudi če me težko čakajo, se v svoji "razcapanosti", ranjenosti želim še malo zadržati v puščavi. Samo s teboj, Gospod. A ThoughtCovid: when will this damn thing be over? I’ve been ok with lockdown, but it’s getting a bit irritating. I’m browned off with the press coverage and the constant stream of concerned voices trying to influence public policy. Every news report includes some corner of society that has a problem with restrictions or vaccine roll-out. I’m not one for the news, but still, I can’t seem to avoid it.At the same time, I have to consider myself and my family lucky because I know many others were not as fortunate. My mother died in December last, and although that was difficult in itself, she spared us the additional misery that many other families have endured due to Covid. We had her at home, and that’s where she passed away, but many others who have lost loved ones in the last twelve months didn’t have that. Additionally, we’ve managed pretty well financially. My wife is a nurse, so she’s been working away. My work has been affected, but Pascal’s few bob is tiding us over. Lockdown has also given me time to study. In effect, I’m being paid to go to college.I like my own company, so the adjustment to restrictions was not an issue for me. The kids have been doing well at home too. Although, I’m looking forward to seeing them back at school instead of being stuck in their rooms staring at a screen. I’m also looking forward to meeting the lads and having a few pints o’ the black, maybe one or two with the oul fella too, and a night out with her indoors. Apart from that, there’s not too much this simple man is looking for.After it’s over, there’ll be fallout for many years to come; I’ve little doubt. My hope is that essential services related to mental health are improved. Currently, the system is woefully under-resourced and too many people are not getting the care they need. If you don’t have the cash, you don’t get the mental health services you need. Things are changing here in that regard, so I’m hopeful nonetheless. Rujo Katras (Jyväskylä, rock)Rujo Katras on yhtä kuin: Joonas Rautiainen - Laulu Topi Lampinen - Kitara+taustamölinä Joni Haarala - Rummut Jari Rossi - Basso+taustamölinä  Vuonna 2013 Jyväskyläläinen bändi sai alkunsa, jolloin aloimme tekemään suomenkielistä rujoa rokkia yksinkertaisuudesta tinkimättä. Bändi on siitä kehittynyt ja biisit ovat tulleet raskaammaksi ja trash metal vaikutteisiksi,joka on vaikuttanut bändin live toimintaan. Keikka-akti on mukaansa tempaavaa rokittelua ja vuorovaikutuksessa yleisön kanssa. Bändi on alusta saakka sitoutunut joka viikkoiseen treenaamiseen, ja siksi biisien teko on ollut äärettömän kivutonta ja yhteishengessä tehtyjä. Keikkoja on takana runsain mitoin. Madison Roam (Lahti, rock)Madison Roam on vuonna 2009 Lahdessa perustettu rock-bändi. Nelihenkisenä aloittaneen rytmiryhmän kokoonpano muuntautui trio-muotoon vuonna 2014.  Bändin musiikillinen ajatusmaailma on ollut aina hyvin avoin ja turhia kategoriointeja sekä rajoitteita on vältetty. Pohjavaikutteena musiikkiin on kuitenkin ns. “oldschool-rock” Sabbatit, Floydit ja Zeppeliinit. Tähän kun sekoitellaan mukaan Misfitsiä ja 90-luvun grungea, niin alkaa Madison Roamin ns. perusvaikutteet olla kasassa.  Yhtye on julkaissut kaksi promo-levyä “As The Daylight Goes By” sekä “Ready to Roll?” ja bändin nimeä kantava debyyttialbumi putkahti ulos 2012. Viimeisin äänite on vuonna 2019 julkaistu Dog From Hell -ep.  Keikkarintamalla yhtyeen toistaiseksi merkittävimmät keikat ovat olleet omat levynjulkkaribileet sekä useita mainioita lämppäyskeikkoja (mm. Graham Bonnet band, OD Saxon, Kauko Röyhkä, Pelle Miljoona etc.)  Tällä hetkellä bändi punoo koronatauon aikana juonia tulevaan ja tulee aktivoitumaan taas lähitulevaisuudessa. Weightless World (Jyväskylä, rock)© Emmi Virtanen. Weightless Worldin taival alkoi pienessä kellarissa Päijänteen rannalla, Jyväskylässä. Neljä teini-ikäistä kaverusta perustivat ryhmän yhteisen kiinnostuksen kohteen ympärille; metalli ja musiikin tekeminen olivat kaikilla lähellä sydäntä. Alusta lähtien yhtye alkoi soittamaan omaa musiikkia. Vuosien edetessä yhtyeen oma tyyli alkoi muodostumaan jäsenten omien vaikutteiden kautta, mutta pääasiassa kitaristi Valtteri Viinikka kirjoitti kappaleet.   Yhtye sai nykyisen muotonsa vuonna 2015, kun laulaja Perttu Korhonen liittyi mukaan. Tämän tapahduttua oman soundin löytäminen oli helppoa ja se johtikin yhtyeen ensimmäisen virallisen singlen julkaisuun. ”My Devotion” julkaistiin vuonna 2017 musiikkivideon kanssa.   Ensimmäisten singlejen seurauksena yhtye alkoi kirjoittamaan myös täysipitkää albumia. Albumi äänitettiin Electric Fox studiolla Jyväskylässä, samoin kuin edeltävät singlet. Viimein toukokuussa 2019 yhtyeen debyyttialbumi näki päivänvalon saavuttaen loistavia arvioita musiikkimedioissa maailmanlaajuisesti.   Weightless Worldin tulevaisuus näyttää valoisammalta kuin koskaan. Vuonna 2020 on luvassa uutta musiikkia ja uuden materiaalin kirjoittaminen on parhaillaan käynnissä. Sakea Ilta perustettiin Jyväskylässä 2018. Kaikki jäsenet ovat kotoisin eri kaupungeista eivätkä tunteneet toisiaan, ainakaan muuten kuin veljen koiran kummin kaimoina, ennen bändin perustamista. Jäsenet ovat (koulutettuja) ammattimuusikoita ja lisäksi Ringa on vielä vaikka mitä ja muuta, esimerkiksi sirkusartisti, Elias autokauppias, Roope hipihtynyt punkkari ja Marko on oikeasti Tuomo. Kyseessä ei kuitenkaan ole mikään väsynyt konsaprogebändi joka on olemassa pienten piirien kikkailua varten, vaan ääniä halutaan päästää emotionaalinen ja esteettinen kokemus edellä. Kaikilla on yhteinen tahto tehdä omaa musiikkia kovalla intensiteetillä ja omistautumisella.   Tulevaisuudessa aiomme palvella tarkoitustamme rakkauden ja musiikin lähettiläinä keikkailemalla mahdollisimman laajalti sekä julkaisemalla uutta musiikkia tasaiseen tahtiin. Tämän kesän mittaan julkaisemme kokoelman pirteitä sinkkuja, jotka edelleen laajentavat käsitystä Sakean genren rajoista, joita tunnetusti ei ole.  Musiikillisesti olemme jatkuvalla tutkimusmatkalla emmekä tiedä mitä tulemme löytämään, mutta ydinajatuksemme sekä tarkoituksemme on sama: haluamme tehdä mahdollisimman hyvää musiikkia joka saa hengittää mahdollisimman vapaasti ja kasvaa oman luonteensa ja halunsa mukaisesti ilman bändin ja sen jäsenten omien egojen rajoittavaa otetta. Mielestämme Sakea Ilta on kuin hieno viini, se paranee, kypsyy ja moniuloitteistuu vanhetessaan, mutta pohjimmiltaan sen luonne pysyy samana, tuttuna, tunnistettavana.  LINKIT:Instagram Facebook Youtube Spotify   Lisäksi kangaskasseja ja levyjä voi tilata ja tiedustella suoraan bändiltä esimerkiksi ottamalla yhteyttä sosiaalisen median kautta.  PARASTA KOTIKULMILLA: Paras paikka tavata ihmisiä ja hengailla tuopillisen tai viinilasin äärellä lienee Vakiopaine eli Vakkari. Sinne kokoontuvat opiskelijat, teatteriväki, muusikot, rivikansalaiset ja kaikenmaailman muut hipit. Siellä on myös erinomaista ja monipuolista kulttuuritarjontaa aina runonlausunnasta keikkoihin ja työpajoihin. Vakkarissa saa myös syödä häiriöttä omia ruokiaan, kuten usein pöydiltä löytyvät tyhjät viereisen Marian tyhjät pizzalaatikot vieraspaikkakuntalaisellekin kertovat.  Aktiivisin keikka- ja jamipaikka taas on toisessa päässä keskustaa sijaitseva Poppari, jonka tutustumiskierros kuuluu sekä ammattikoulun, AMKin että yliopiston musiikin opiskelijoiden tutor-kierrokseen. Tiistaisin siellä on Jazz- ja keskiviikkoisin poprock-jamit ja lisäksi keikkoja monta kertaa viikossa. Lisäksi lava on vapaa jamittelijoille aina kun siellä ei ole jonkin esiintyvän bändin omat kamat levällään ja usein esimerkiksi keikkojen jälkeen alkaakin spontaani jamisessio. Poppari onkin toinen erinomainen paikka hengailuun ja kulttuurin kosketuksi tulemiseen.  Tyypillinen Jyväskyläläinen ilta alkaa Vakkarissa istuskellen, josta siirrytään Poppariin jamittelemaan, josta pilkun jälkeen painutaan Freetimeen vielä pariksi tunniksi tanssimaan ja laulamaan karaokea.  TUE: Ostamalla meidän levyjä ja kasseja, kuuntelemalla ja jakamalla paljon meidän musaa ja ylläpitämää Sakea Suomi spotifylistaa ja tietenkin tulemalla keikoille sitten kun sellaisia taas kyetään järjestämään!   05. A1noa (Lahti, popiskelmä)A1noa syntyi vuonna 2013 kahden hyväntekeväisyyskonsertin tuotoksena.  Pitkään musiikkia tehnyt ja erilaisissa kokoonpanoissa mukana ollut Jani Varpujärvi oli kuullut Kari Meriläisen laulua ja löysi siitä heti omiin kappaleisiin sopivan saundin. Mll:n Orimattilan osaston kanssa toteutettu konsertti antoi Mpt-palvelut Ky:n Sari LundNiemiselle kipinän lähteä tuottamaan A1noan ensimmäistä ep:tä.  "Sydänverellä" levy tehtiin ja julkaistiin kesällä 2013.  Keikoille A1noa otti omien biisien rinnalle tunnettuja menobiisejä menneiltä vuosikymmeniltä. Keikat ja erilaiset projektit pitivät poikia kiireisinä ja kesällä 2015 A1noa teki toisen ep:n "Jälkemme".  2018 julkaistiin ”Sininen” Cd.  Levyt ovat saaneet mukavasti radiosoittoa paikallisradioissa Suomessa.  A1noa on osallistunut UMK kilpailuun vuosina 2017, 2018 ja 2020. 2018 Kilpailukappaleesta ”Sininen” tuli uusimman levyn nimikkokappale.  Keväällä 2018 A1noa esiintyi Orimattilassa yhteiskonsertissa tangokuningatar Heidi Pakarisen kanssa.  A1noa on keikkaillut tasaiseen tahtiin tehden hää, synttäri, pikkujoulu yms keikkoja.  Kevään 20 poikkeustilanne aiheutti (niinkuin kaikille muillekkin esiintyjille) sen, että keikkakalenteri tyhjeni aivan täysin. Osa keikoista on siirtynyt loppuvuoteen ja toivotaan että tilanne paranee kesän ja syksyn aikaan. Jani Varpujärvi (Lahti, sinfoninen metalli)Olen soittanut ja tehnyt musiikkia niin kauan kuin muistan.  Erilaisia bändi kokoonpanoja on ollut vuosien mittaan useita, myös tuurauskeikat ovat tulleet tutuiksi.  Nuorina poikina voitimme kilpailun, jonka palkintona oli päästä soittamaan Lahden hyppyrimäkien alla järjestettyyn "Ilta Altailla" tapahtumaan. Se oli nuorille 16v pojille kova juttu, kun yleisöä oli yli 2000.  Olen ollut 10 vuotta Eki Jantusen Mutkattomissa (Basso/koskettimet).  A1noa  on puolestaan omaa tuotantoa. Teen pääosin sävellykset, sanoitukset ja sovitukset. Esitämme keikoilla myös covereita.  Olen järjestänyt useita hyväntekeväisyyskonsertteja mm. Mll:n hyväksi.  Sähkeet Uutiskomediashow (Hki) kanssa olen tehnyt muutaman vuoden tuotantoyhtyeistyötä.  Minulta on tilailtu paljon erilaisille laulajille ja tarpeisiin sovituksia ja tuottanut musiikkia.  Helsinkiläisen Krister Orren kanssa olen tehynt on-off yhteistyötä, josta on yksi sinkku/musavideo julkaistu. Krister Orre vaikuttaa 69eyes bändin taustalla.  Olen Orimattilasta kotoisin. Orimattilan Tönnön koululla järjestettävä tenavatähti kilpailu on ollut henk.koht erittäin mukava tapahtuma: Minua pyydettiin koulun entisenä oppilaana säestämään ja uusimaan tapahtuman musiikillista puolta ja siitä tulikin huippusuosittu tapahtuma. Edellisen kerran tangokuningatar Heidi Pakarinen oli tuomaristossa mukana ja hänkin innostui tunnelmasta niin paljon, että muutamaa kuukautta myöhemmin järjestettiin kevätkonserttia jossa esiintyi Heidi, A1noa ja tenavatähtiä.  Kappaleita on syntynyt vuosien mittaan paljon.  Joitain löytyy youtubesta nimelläni, mutta nyt myös levyinä:  Hiljaisuus ep 2017 (Kunnianosoitus sotaveteraaneille)  The Symphony Saga 2018  Jälkimmäisellä levyllä kitaroinneista vastaa Timo "Tinke" Niemistö ja Kai Korteila. LINKIT:Youtube   07. Runneltu (Joutsa, hardcore)Runneltu on vuonna 2004 perustettu metallista hardcorea soittava yhtye Joutsasta. Bändi vaikutti vuodet 2007-2011 Lahdessa, mutta tukikohta on vuodesta 2011 eteenpäin ollut alkuperäisellä kotipaikkakunnalla Joutsassa. Yhtye on tehnyt keikkoja silloin tällöin, yhteensä noin 30 (alkuaikojen keikat tosin eri nimellä).   Julkaisut (kaikki omakustanteita): Demo 2006 Demo 2007 Demo 2008 Selkäranka (pitkäsoitto, 2010) Aivotyömaa (EP, 2015) Sokea hyppy (pitkäsoitto, 2015) Rumentaja (EP, 2019)  Levyt löytyvät Spotifysta ym. suoratoistopalveluista. Selkäranka, Aivotyömaa ja Sokea hyppy -levyjä löytyy myös cd-versioina. YouTubesta bändin kanavalta löytyy myös monenlaista erikoismateriaalia.  Bändissä on tapahtunut vuosien varrella muutoksia kokoonpanossa. Viimeisin muutos on melko tuore tapaus kun laulaja Santtu Pihlaja (alunperin rumpali) lopetti bändihommat. Rumentaja jäi Santun viimeiseksi työksi bändissä. Sellainen ihme kuitenkin tapahtui, että Runneltu löysi uuden laulajan ja homma jatkuu! Uusi kokoonpano pääsi jo hyvään alkuun, mutta korona laittoi aikatauluja uusiksi. Tarkoitus on tehdä uusia levyjä ja keikkoja heti kun se on mahdollista!  Nyky-Runneltu: Laulu - Uusi laulaja (liittyi juuri bändiin, paljastetaan myöhemmin) Basso - Vesa Pitkänen (alkuperäisjäsen) Kitara - Sami Tommola (ollut mukana alkuvuodesta 2009) Rummut - Tuomas Hämäläinen (ollut mukana kesästä 2012)  Runneltu löytyy Facebookista ja Instagramista. Bändillä on nettisivut www.runneltu.com. Sivusto päivitetään ajan tasalle kun ehditään!  Moni on varmaan ehtinyt 16 vuodessa perustaa ja lopettaa monta bändiä. Runneltu on kehittänyt omaa juttuaan eteenpäin kärsivällisesti kaikessa rauhassa. Myönnämme olevamme hieman hitaita, mutta parhaat levyt ja keikat ovat vielä tekemättä. Voisimme olla kulahtanut bändi, joka vain kokoontuu fiilistelemään menneitä, mutta asia ei suinkaan ole näin. Bändi on edelleen luova ja elinvoimainen! Suunta on kohti parempaa.  Vaikka vastoinkäymisiä on ollut, niin kaikesta on aina selvitty. Eikä pelkästään selvitty vaan bändi on pystynyt kehittymään. Keikkailun kannalta vastoinkäymiset ovat kuitenkin usein osuneet huonoon saumaan. Toisaalta senkin takia meillä on nyt entistäkin nälkäisempi joukkue kasassa. Uusi laulaja on tuonut bändiin uutta virtaa. Kotipaikkaamme liittyy paljon merkityksellisiä muistoja laidasta laitaan, kuten Joutsa Hardcore City -biisistäkin voi kuulla. Parhaat paikalliset menomestat ovat tietysti Kellari ja nuorisoseurantalo, sillä noissa paikoissa olemme olleet soittamassa. Korsakoff Oy (Riihimäki, punk)Korsakoff Oy on kasattu 2018 marraskuussa. Kitaristi-laulaja ja rumpali pyöritteli ideaa bändistä monta vuotta, ennen lopullista kokoonpanoa. Yksi sumuinen Halloween yö 2018 törmäsimme Hyvinkään villissä yössä tulevaan laulavaan basistiimme. Ei mennyt kauaakaan, kun aloimme tuumasta toimeen ja puoli vuotta myöhemmin meidän ensimmäinen EP Oireyhtymäkohtia (toukokuu 2019) oli valmis ja painettuna vielä CD:lle. Ekat keikat alkoivat rullaamaan ja seuraavana kolahti Kaaosmasennus digi-ep lokakuussa 2019.   Hyvinkääläinen punkrockin konkari Traumat ottivat meihin yhteyttä ja halusivat alkaa tekemään splittiseiskaa. Kolme kovaa biisiä ja vuosisadan keikkakesä edessä. Keikat peruuntuivat jostain kumman syystä, mutta levyt jäivät kassinpohjalle pyörimään.   Nyt paraikaa äänitämme ensimmäistä pitkäsoittoa, joka on tarkoitus julkaista vinyylinä ulos loppuvuodesta. Ensimmäinen single ''Kesäbiisi'' julkaistaan tältä soitolta 20.6.2020.  Meidän basisti miksaa meidän kaikki itseäänitetyt biisit tästä splitistä lähtien. Miksaus hoituu Dave Draper-nimisellä brittiherralla.   Paras tapa tukea Korsakoffin toimintaa on käydä niillä keikoilla. Myöskin splittiä, CD:tä, tarraa ja pinssiä saa ostettua suoraan bändiltä Facebookin ja Instagramin kautta.   Meidän splittiä löytää tällä hetkellä Riihimäeltä pienliike Ehta Tradesta ja kohta myös Side Mission Recordsin nettikaupasta. Emppu ei paljon esittelyjä kaipaa. 13-vuotiaana alkoi hänen ja Tiktakin tarina sekä nousu Suomen musiikkimaailman huipulle. Mutta myös omia vähemmän tunnettuja projekteja hän on vuosien saatossa julkaissut; nu-metallilla ja post-grungella flirttaillut raskas Dame toimi eräänlaisena terapia-projektina Tiktakin (tai "Tiksun", kuten Emppu itse sanoo) vilkkaimpien vuosien aikana, kun taas Alavala oli Tiktakin jälkeen täysin toisen ääripään projekti keveine folkpop-viboineen. Nyt hän on julkaissut ensimmäisen soolosinglensä nimeltään "Tää laulu on sun" ihan vain omalla etunimellään. Joonas jututti Emppua ennen sinkun julkaisua, ja kävi ilmi, ettei pienten bändien ja "isojen nimien" (Emppu ei missään tapauksessa käyttäisi itsestään tätä ilmaisua!) pitkässä kaaressa lopulta onnistuneen levytyksen julkaisuun, ole juurikaan eroja. I've long been drawn to Mauritius. Aside from the dreamy white sandy beaches, crystal clear blue water and lush, relaxing vibes, the small island nation in the Indian Ocean off the East Coast of Africa has plenty else going for it. I made it my first priority to plan a true once-of-a-lifetime trip to Mauritius. And I did it. My flights were ticketed and my hotel stay was confirmed.And then the coronavirus happened.What to do in Mauritius?1. Hike up Le MorneLe Morne is a mountain on the SouthWestern tip of Mauritius. On top is a big cross as a memorial for the history of this mountain. Slaves throwing themselves off a 550+ meter cliff to escape from their masters. In 2008 UNESCO named Le Morne as World Heritage Site.A hike up Le Morne takes about 2-hours and it's recommended to have a guide to be able to reach the top. Make sure to start climbing just after sunrise to prevent the heat.2. Visit the Chamarel 7-colored earthAnother impressive sight and thing to do in Mauritius is the Chamarel 7-colored earth. Many years ago, Mauritius had active volcanoes and because of the eruption that part of the earth is not fertile. All the different colors really pop up when it doesn't rain. 3. Visit the Chamarel WaterfallsChamarel is a private property where you can buy a ticket to visit the waterfalls and 7-colored earth. The waterfall can (sadly enough) only be seen from the top and the hike is super easy! Entrance to the park is around $6 per person.4. Pamplemousse parkPamplemousse is a park that includes an incredible collection of plants from all over the world. You can easily wander around in here for an hour or two and also a great place to cool down in the shadow from the burning sun.Go there to see the truly impressive ponds full of water lilies and specimens from all over the world that thrive in the warm climate of the island. It's one of the most amazing places to see in Mauritius's North.5 Go snorkeling in MauritiusWatersports are an obvious thing to do in Mauritius, but I have to put in on the list anyway. Mauritius is truly unique when it comes to snorkeling – and not only because of its turquoise waters!The whole island is surrounded by one big coral reef!So when you go into the water directly from the beach it will be very, very warm. The reason: roughly 500 meters further outside will start the coral reefs. It protects the whole island from storms and from big waves in general – not unlike a big cushion. So the water close to the shore will be very calm and thus very warm. But back to snorkeling! The reef is mostly intact and since there never was any heavy industry on Mauritius there is no pollution either.6.Get up high in the air (Helicopter ride)My personal recommendation: The helicopter can pick you up directly at the airport. Most luxury hotels will have their own helipad. Since travel on the island is rather slow, this will combine a view to remember with fast access to your hotel.Okay, I guess I couldn't convince you to go hiking. But Mauritius certainly is an island with quite a spectacular landscape: high mountains, green plains, white beaches, and blue water. If you can afford it, you should definitely consider getting up in the air for an overview! Your other alternative would be a helicopter tour around the island. The view from above will be truly breathtaking!! Expect prices in the range of 500 US-Dollar per half an hour.7. Go see an old crater.Like most islands in the middle of the Indian Ocean, Mauritius is a product of an ancient volcanic eruption. None of them is active anymore. However, you can still see a lot of old craters around the islands. If you got the chance – make sure to drop by!Oh, and before you leave Mauritius, make sure to see at least one sunset. The tropical flora and the pristine beaches will create a truly romantic setting. Either for having a private dinner or just for taking the usual pictures for your photo albumI'm still hoping to make this dream trip of mine work out. As frustrating as it is to see a trip fall through, it's made me even more excited to visit Mauritius and to actually make this happen.For now, I'll have to get back to planning and finding dates that work best for me. Soon enough, you'll find me on the beach soaking up the sun.8.Try to eat like a local.Mauritian food is a unique mix of African, Indian, and Chinese cuisines. Stop along the road where local people are having lunch and try their great food.9.Grand Bassin, MauritiusGrand Bassin is an inactive volcano crater lake. A priest from India once brought sacred water and poured holy water into the lake. It now is a sacred place for a large number of Hindu people on Mauritius.10.Explore the beachesMauritius is completely surrounded by beaches and a beautiful coastline. It offers beaches to relax, snorkel, do boat tours and has world-famous spots for wind and kite-surf.Trou aux Biches offers a white sand beach with beautiful clear water and the reef close to shore to snorkel.Le Morne is the go-to back for a quiet laid back beach experience. Few boats and crystal clear waters with a backdrop of Le Morne mountain.

She was crowned Miss Black Arizona in 1989[3][4][5][6][7][8][12] and Miss Galaxy in 1990.[3][7]Peniston began writing pop lyrics already at school. The words of her international hit "Finally" were purportedly penned during a chemistry class, while thinking about dating in college. Her music career began in January 1991, when Felipe "DJ Wax Dawg" Delgado, her friend and a record producer based also in Phoenix, asked Peniston to record back-up vocals for Tonya Davis, a black female rapper known as Overweight Pooch after her childhood nickname.[3][4][24]Davis, headed in a direction of a "new" Monie Love, was searching for a singer to add vocals to the title track of her album Female Preacher, which was to be released on A&M Records that summer. At a talent show she met a woman named Malaika LeRae Sallard, but when it came time to get Sallard into the studio, the rapper found she'd lost her future label-mate's number. When Delgado, who'd preferred Peniston instead, brought his favorite in to do background parts, the response from everyone was immediate, but did not move the Pooch to invite Peniston back for more vocals – unless she was successful in locating Sallard.[24]Later, as it became clear that Peniston was leaping from the Overweight Pooch's album to the top of the charts, rumor had it the Pooch was stewing over Peniston's using Female Preacher as her springboard. Tonya Davis, pregnant at the time of recording her album, swore she harbored no jealousy towards Peniston. "There's no jealousy, because she has a voice. I gave her the chance, but I didn't give her a voice,"[24] the rapper insisted for Phoenix New Times in July 1992, and Peniston, interviewed by the same newspaper in the meantime, reacted by her own words. "I feel like anything's possible and I know one thing. If I wasn't at this spot, I still would be achieving to get to this spot."[24] Ironically enough, Sallard eventually threw in a few back-up vocals for Peniston on a song with a significant title, "You Win, I Win, We Lose", while Peniston, who in return played an agent to get a record deal also for Malaika (whose album Sugar Time scored in 1993 two Top 5 hits on the US Dance chart, including the No. 1 single "Gotta Know (Your Name)") mentioned the Pooch's name on her own debut album in addition, leaving Davis a note saying "thanks for letting me be a part of Female Preacher".[25]Besides the Peniston's vocal performance on three tracks in total, of which "I Like It" was released as a single with a moderate success (at #16 in US Dance[26] and #58 in UK Top 75[27] the following January), she was eventually given also a credit for co-writing two of those, "Kickin' Da Blues" and the title's, "Female Preacher". But the Overweight Pooch's album flopped on the market, and A&M was the first major label for Delgado himself, who was facing contractual disputes with the record company. After Manny Lehman (a DJ, then A&M Art Director and one of the executive producers of Female Preacher) also noticed the powerful voice of a still back-up vocalist, he offered Delgado a second chance, and commissioned him to produce a track for Peniston herself as a solo artist.[4] Not looking to lose his major deal connections, Delgado called on a hometown friend and music producer too, Rodney K. Jackson (they two met through mutual friends in Arizona), who was brought then to A&M family to help co-produce the Peniston's single, which was soon to be recognized as “Finally”.[28]Despite an initial label's resistance to sign Peniston to more than a one-off single deal, the “Finally” session resulted in recording her own debut album after the final approval of A&M's Vice President, Mark Mazzetti.[29]1991–92: Finally[edit]Peniston with Felipe Delgado at Chaton Studios in Phoenix, Arizona, putting final touches to her debut albumI was sitting in a Chicago pizza parlor in October and I heard over the radio 'Finally by CeCe Peniston'. I just started looking around going 'That's me! That's me!"[5]—Peniston recalled for EW magazine in 1992. (Almost 20 years later, when asked by Mega 104.3, she denied saying it, during her interview broadcast live on April 5, 2011.)[30]Peniston was 21 years old when her debut single "Finally" was released. The song burst on to the US club scene in the fall of 1991, where it became an instant dance anthem peaking, in October,[10] at the top of the Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play for two weeks, while achieving a respectful starting position (at No. 29)[11] overseas.After her first song climbed the international charts, Peniston was headed into the studio to record a full-length album. However, she "had two months to pull the whole album together" and "didn't realize the impact the record was having until it reached the top five". She also described how difficult it was to begin her career at such an extreme pace, but [4] the result was a solidly produced ten track collection titled Finally, issued in January of the following year.Both the single and album entered the US Hot 100, as well as the UK Top 75 chart (at No. 5[10] and No. 2 for single,[11] respectively at No. 70[10] and at No. 10 for album release[11]), and ultimately earned Peniston a gold or silver certification in both countries. By the end of 1992 her debut (in Europe re-released in 1997 with a bonus remix "Finally '97") sold over 540,000 in United States.[31]"We Got a Love Thang", the second single (co-written by Chantay Savage), with a video clip in heavy rotation on TV music channels, went to No. 1 in the US Dance chart in February (No. 20 in the Hot 100),[10] and in England (where "Finally" skipped to No. 2 eventually[11]) "We Got a Love Thang" peaked at No. 6.[11] Might the only controversial question regarding the title remain who had provided background vocals on the record? While on her album Finally Darnnel Rush was credited, on its single release, the name of Kym Sims (who was a co-writer of "Keep On Walkin'") appeared as one of back-up vocalists actually.[32]With another hit record on the charts, Peniston began a year of touring clubs and small theaters in the USA in support of her album. Her travels started with a series of shows in the Philippines, Japan, the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain and Italy, and after her return to the USA, Peniston continued with such R&B acts as Joe Public, the Cover Girls, R. Kelly and Levert.[4] While on tour, "Keep On Walkin'", a hip hop swinging composition, joined the list of Peniston's three consecutively running hits, bringing Peniston in June her third No. 1 in the U.S. Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart (No. 15 in the Hot 100),[9] and another Top 10 hit in UK.[11] Later in August, that was also her highest outing in the US R&B chart, scoring at No. 3.On October 17, Billboard magazine announced that Peniston was the leading nominee in the Billboard Music Awards, being nominated in four categories: three times in the dance category with "Finally" (Best New Artist, Best Female Artist and Best Director), and one in the R&B/Rap category (Best Female Artist) for her urban hit "Keep On Walkin'".[33] Ultimately the song won two awards, and three of her singles released in 1992 were listed also within the Top 100 songs of the Billboard Year-End chart (at No. 20 with "Finally", at No. 61 with "Keep On Walkin'", and at No. 97 with "We Got a Love Thang"[34]). In the UK, Peniston was listed as the 20th of Top Selling Singles Artists in 1992.Additional songs taken from album Finally achieved the Top 40 status at least in the hip hop/R&B field. The grieving lyrics of her ballad "Inside That I Cried", co-written by Peniston's then-husband, Malik Byrd (who appeared also in its video), and produced in conjunction with Anita Baker's cohort, Steve Lindsey, peaked at No. 10 in the US R&B (No. 94 in the Hot 100[10] and No. 42 in UK Top 75[11]). The fifth single, a midtempo, "Crazy Love", climbed to No. 31 (No. 97 in the Hot 100[10] and No. 44 in UK[11]).By the end of the year, Peniston received several awards for her achievements in the music industry for 1992. Among them, one Billboard Music Award (as Best New Artist – Dance, the second went to the video director Claude Borenzweig), three ASCAP Awards (for Song of The Year, Most Performed Song of The Year, and Pop Songwriter of The Year), another three awards (as Best New Dance Artist, Best Dance Solo Artist, and for Best 12" Dance Record) at the Annual Winter Music Conference, and the BMI Urban Award of Achievement.[13] The album itself was nominated on a Soul Train Music Award '93 in the Best R&B/Soul Album – Female category.[35]1993–95: Thought 'Ya KnewWithin a year, Peniston was back in the studios to record her sophomore release, and the particular challenge for the vocalist was to avoid getting pigeonholed into the dance genre. For that reason, several ballads were arranged to appear on the final set (in the front with "Forever In My Heart", produced by Brian McKnight), of which, however, none was chosen for a single release. This time around, Peniston co-authored three of thirteen tracks ("Whatever It Is", "Give What I'm Givin" and "Maybe It's The Way",[4] a ballad about her father[8]), and along with Manny Lehman and Damon Jones, who later became Peniston's manager, she was also credited as an executive producer of her scheduled album release, Thought 'Ya Knew. Apart from others, also fellow Ohio-born singer Norma Jean Wright joined the session.[36]After a certain level of hesitation over the first single, "I'm in the Mood" (originally produced by Soulshock and Karlin) was picked to be the final leader—though as support for "Searchin'", which would be separately delivered on vinyl only to DJs. "I'm in the Mood" did well by itself, and with a video accompanied by a hip-hop remix from M-Doc & Jere M.C. (better known as In Da Soul) the title was on singles reproduced by David Morales for the dance floor. The song spawned Peniston's fourth No. 1[10] (dethroning from the top of the US Dance chart Aretha Franklin's "A Deeper Love") and peaked at No. 16 in UK[11] (#32 in the Hot 100[10]).On January 25, 1994, the album Thought 'Ya Knew, which was to represent Peniston's musical zenith at that time, arrived on all available formats, including digital compact cassettes. However, as the record promptly entered the music charts, it was soon to be evident Thought 'Ya Knew was not enjoying the high-profile success of her previous set Finally. After its progress had stalled in the Billboard 200 at No. 96,[10] Thought 'Ya Knewclimbed to No. 31 in the UK,[11] but the album charted for only two weeks in the UK.Not certain about the second single either, "Keep Givin' Me Your Love" was accepted to become the British follow-up. Tikko iznācis grupas "Imanta Dimanta un draugi" pirmais albums "Izauga mātei brīnuma meita".  Albumu veido 13 tautasdziesmu apdares un oriģinālkompozīcijas, dziesmas stāsta par meitas došanos pie vīra. Grupā "Imanta Dimanta un draugi" darbojas pieci jaunieši - Katrīna Dimanta, kas spēlē vijoli, čellu, tamburīnu un dzied, Imanta Nīgale, kas spēlē mandolīnu un dzied, Krišjānis Sils spēlē ģitāru, Kristaps Strods spēlē basu un Ingus Purēns spēlē kahonu, tamburīnu un dzied. Grupai dažkārt pievienojas arī perkusionists Kaspars Indrēvics. Trīs no grupas uzauguši ārzemju latviešu ģimenēs, dažādās pasaules malās - Austrālijā, Amerikā un Vācijā, pārējie dzimuši un auguši tepat Latvijā. Grupas pirmsākumi meklējami 2012. gadā, un līdz šim grupa ir koncertējusi Latvijā un Amerikā, kur tika uzsākts darbs pie šī albuma jau 2015. gadā. Nesen iznākusi arī grupas "Austrumkalns" jaunais albums „Akcenti”. "Austrumkalns" ir folkrokgrupa, ko nodibināja četras meitenes, kas dzimušas Anglijā un uzaugušas Londonā. I've waxed lyrical on my love and history with hip hop a couple of times recently, so there's no need to go through it all again.Andy Hepburn, known as Astronautalis, has been one of my favourite rappers since I heard him on the P.O.S. album ‘Never Better'. His style, delivery and the literary intelligence of his lyrics appeals to the writer in me in ways that a lot of rappers really can't match.Upon landing this interview I did a whole bunch of research and found out that he's related to the 4th Earl of Bothwell, James Hepburn, Better known as Mary, Queen of Scots' third husband. I won't bore you with the details of the history and why that's so interesting to me (it's covered in the podcast) but suffice to say, the Scottish history geek in me was happy to have a chat about all of that with Andy.He's probably one of the coolest, most laid back people I've spoken to so far and this chat is one of the easiest I can remember.
