The Great Coaches: Leadership & Life

Graham is a Rugby Union Coach. He started coaching in 1975 while teaching at Auckland Grammar school. His coaching and teaching continued and in 1993 he was to win the first of 4 consecutive Provincial Championships with Auckland. In 1996 he resigned as a headmaster to take up full time coaching with the Auckland Blues, leading them to back to back Super 12 titles in 1996 and 1997. He then took on the role as Head Coach of Wales and In 2000 led them to the 6 Nations Championship and the Grand Slam. While coaching Wales he also led the British and Irish Lions on a tour of Australia. In 2003 he was appointed coach of the All Blacks and went on to lead them to the 2011 World Cup. In 2012 he was awarded a Knight Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit (KNZM) in services to rugby.[17] In this terrific interview some of the key highlights are: The way the teams culture was built from its purpose which was to be the best sporting team in the world. And the role that humility played in bringing this to life. How by the time he was appointed All Blacks Coach he had learnt the importance of empowerment and moving from a coach driven environment to a team driven environment. And how this was the catalyst for the leadership groups he put in place. The way the difficult decision he has made in his life have gone on to benefit him in the longer run. And how in his words “'learning about yourself under pressure” has been a key part of his development as a leader. It's part of the club's Best Foot Forward for Tonga initiative. The group also visited some of the areas worst hit in the eruption and tsunami in January. One school they visited used to have 400 students, but now only has 100 because some students are still fearful of going to school so close to the water. The sports equipment was delivered to 30 schools across the island. [embed] https://players.brightcove.net/6093072280001/default_default/index.html?videoId=6312332708112

John MacDonald: Gary Lawson is not a nice person, but he has been hard done by

Canterbury Mornings with Chris Lynch

Even if you know nothing about bowls, chances are you'll know the name Gary Lawson.I'm in the "knows-nothing-about-bowls" camp, but I know Lawson's name just from hearing it mentioned so often over the years in the sports news. And from that, I know that he's pretty handy on the bowling green. He's a former world champion and he's been New Zealand champion 14 times. But I also know, from what I've seen and read, that he's a bit of a loudmouth too. He's probably wishing today that he'd learnt over the years to pull his head in a bit, because he's just been slapped with a 16-week ban which means he's out of this year's Commonwealth Games.Probably one of our best bowlers ever, and he can't be selected for the Games because he's banned from competing for 16-weeks. And the reason for the ban is homophobic abuse towards another player at a competition in May last year.As well as that particular incident, Lawson has said things and behaved in ways over the years that were pretty awful and the impression I get is that he's not a very nice person to be around. It seems he's only got away with it - up and until now anyway - because Bowls New Zealand and Bowls Canterbury have reportedly turned a blind eye to his behaviour. I think the bowls organisations have denied that, but make of it what you will.Nevertheless, that all appears to have changed and yesterday Gary Lawson was told that he's out for 16 weeks which means he's out of the Commonwealth Games. Now whatever we might think of Gary Lawson as a person, the question in my mind is this: Is he being treated fairly? And the reason I ask that, is because last week we heard about Auckland Blues rugby player Dalton Papalii being caught driving at excessive speeds well over 100 kilometres per hour and not being charged because of some sort of technicality. But a few days after that was in the news, Papalii was selected for the All Blacks squad for the test series against Ireland next month.Bad behaviour, no legal consequences, but can still play.Gary Lawson. Bad behaviour, no legal consequences. But, unlike Dalton Papalii, Gary Lawson can't play. Where's the justice in that? And think back to the Olympic Games in Athens in 2004.That year, we had a member of the New Zealand team who was a convicted criminal. Boxer Soulan Pownceby was selected to represent New Zealand, despite the fact that in 1995 he was convicted for the manslaughter of his five-month-old daughter and spent four years in prison. So, a criminal conviction, very clearly legal consequences, but he was still selected to compete at the Olympics. This is why I'm asking whether the penalty imposed on bowler Gary Lawson, which effectively rules him out of competing at this year's Commonwealth Games, is fair when you compare his case to the others.Yes, anyone who says the kinds of things Gary Lawson has been saying - and who behaves the way Gary Lawson has been behaving for many years - of course they shouldn't be held up as shining examples of the human spirit. And when I saw that he'd got this 16-week ban I thought he'd got his come-uppance, because if there's one thing I can't stand it's loudmouths who think they can say and do whatever they want. Even if they're brilliant at something - like Gary Lawson is at bowls - it's not a licence to run roughshod over everyone else. But, despite all that, I think Gary Lawson has been hard done by.

The first five-eighth's record points tally and marshalling of stars like John Kirwan made the playmaker a key cog in the 1987 Rugby World Cup-winning All Blacks and champion Auckland teams. His distinctive goal-kicking ritual became as reassuring as a metronome, and a model for future number 10.During his time with the All Blacks from 1985 to 1993, he wore the number 10 jersey, and was the main goal kicker for the All Blacks. He amassed 645 points from 46 All Black Test Matches. He is considered a true pioneer of the modern art of goal kicking, in particular the technicalities of leaning the ball forward, which has been adopted by world class kickers since.Fox has been a player, coach, commentator and is currently one of the All Black selectors, a position he has held since 2011.www.theDOC.nzwww.patreon.com/theDOCNZwww.twitter.com/patbrittenden- Like - Share - Subscribe -

And this time we take a deep deep dive into topics such as intuitive eating, consciousness, ego dissolution, education models such as Waldorf and unschooling and much more! Paul is an internationally-renowned expert in the fields of corrective and high-performance exercise kinesiology. For over twenty-five years, his unique, holistic approach to treatment and education has changed the lives of countless people worldwide – many of his clients, his students and their clients. By treating the body as a whole system and finding the root cause of a problem, Paul has been successful where traditional approaches have consistently failed. Paul is the founder of the C.H.E.K (Corrective Holistic Exercise Kinesiology) Institute, based in California, USA and the P~P~S Success Mastery Coaching Program. He is a sought-after presenter and has consulted for organizations such as the Chicago Bulls, Australia’s Canberra Raiders, New Zealand’s Auckland Blues, the US Air Force Academy and other elite organizations. He has produced over 60 DVDs and 17 advanced-level home study courses designed for the fitness and clinical professional. He is a strong believer in the essential role provided by practical training and has developed four Advanced Level Training programs to provide hands-on instruction for the exercise and health industries. Paul's CHEK Exercise Coach program introduces fitness and exercise professionals to an integrated approach to conditioning; the C.H.E.K Practitioner Program is a two to four year advanced level program teaching corrective exercise and high-performance conditioning; the Golf Performance Series focuses on functional conditioning for golfers; the Optimal Health and Fitness Through Practical Nutrition and Holistic Lifestyle Coaching Program contains three levels and shows how to reach optimal health from the inside out. Thousands of people worldwide have been trained in one or more of these challenging and elite level certification programs. Paul has also accrued three US patents for , and , and has also designed several pieces of functional exercise equipment. In this episode with Paul Chek, you'll hear: -Why Paul became an espresso aficionado..4:30 Paul and his wife at one time worked 18+ hrs a day; espresso was an effective way to stay engaged and productive Caregiver archetype Studying functional medicine, Paul found people who had blood sugar issues had coffee on an empty stomach Inflammation, hormone regulation issues Logic doesn't work to get people to kick a bad habit People have a deep emotional connection to coffee Came across some time release vitamins; saw word "chelated" on the bottle Saw a connection between chelation and coffee to help with above mentioned issues Began using organic butter, nut butters, was a fan out of the gate Encouraged people to put something in their coffee and eat a bit of food first thing in the morning -Intuitive eating and a discussion on what is "God"..10:40 Difference between intuition and instinct: Intuition is asking the totality of yourself a question and waiting for the answer Only "God" can give you the soul; the soul is "God" in you Ken Wilburn is known to be able to "stop" his brain () Book: Scientifically speaking, "God" can only be defined as "zero" Book: Book: "What we call spirits and angels is the flow of information and energy that is anthropomorphized" (human interpretation) Eternity, not infinity, is the zero point that we call "God" Intuitive eating: One empties their soul, then asks if a particular food is what they should eat that day. They'll receive the answer according to the energy they feel, positive or negative "Human beings will continue to invent technologies outside themselves until they've either destroyed the planet or they've come to the realization that everything they've created outside of themselves is a copy of a technology that exists within themselves." --Rudolf Steiner -An alternative view of human DNA..28:55 DNA is not a bunch of information like a computer; it's an antenna system that's tapping into morphogenic fields  (proved that the aether does exist) Book: YouTube:  (re: Paul's experience seeing photons in the sun) Book: YouTube series:  -Soul connection and ego dissolution..42:40 Ego dissolution often occurs when people are in a deep crisis It cannot occur when we are constrained by religious or cultural standards Book: Book: Book: Set aside preconceived notions, and allow your soul to speak to your body YouTube video: A British medical officer found that the Hunza people were regular smokers and drinkers with no apparent ill effect on their longevity The psyche is more powerful than physiology 3-step process on learning to be guided at 3 levels: Diet logging Muscle testing () The body will not support a lie Addictions and unbelief inhibit honest biological feedback Listening to the soul The biggest challenge to soul connection is a connection of the ego You have to have legitimate spiritual courage Supplements muffle the signals of the soul -Paul's thoughts on educating children..1:11:15 Ground children into the realities of the real world (meet halfway on buying toys) Book: Education system designed to support the agricultural and industrial revolutions Book: Steiner invented biodynamic farming, which has proven to be superior to other methods of farming Minimum screen time, maximum engagement with the world and creative stimulants at a young age We have a choice on how to raise our children: either allow screens and teachers or we can be proactive and use those as tools while retaining our role as primary educators -The one question Paul Chek wishes he could answer but hasn't been asked..1:31:20 -And much more! RuggaMatrix returns to the United States this week to answer many questions about the head coaching role that will be vacated by Australia’s Scott Johnson. Our man on the spot in New York Bruce McLane gives us the definitive word on the coaching drama and he also debunks many assumptions about USA Rugby. Les Kiss pops up in Limerick as the Ireland national team gathers for their Six Nations camp. The preliminaries are out of the way for the Heineken Cup and this week attention turns the French Top 14 and Ewen McKenzie’s Stade Francais hosting Perpignan. It’s the biggest game in the world this week – 2nd (Stade) v 3rd (Perpignan). All Black star Dan Carter swoops into Paris with Perpignan for a clash that will see a crowd of 80 000 at Stade de France. The panel checks out the Super 14 trial action from across the southern hemisphere. Our special guest star this week is Queensland centre Morgan Turinui. Turinui speaks to the panel on the eve of the Reds departure for New Zealand to play the Auckland Blues in their second Super 14 trial. He’s as sharp as ever and extremely frank about the recent poor record of the Reds. But is the tide about to turn? There’s plenty to look forward to for Queensland supporters in 2009 and Turinui casts his expert eye across his own squad and the rest of the competition. He also reveals a burning desire to get back into the Wallaby squad, hence his re-signing with the Reds for two years.
