Covid and the pandemic changed a lot about how we work, shop, go to school –and even how we workout. One of the biggest “booms” during that time was in running. Depending on the report you read, 15 to 30 percent of runners surveyed say they came to the sport during the pandemic!  Many of them are still running, and looking for in-person opportunities to get together and run. That's GREAT news for folks in the events business, you'd think. A New York Times article from this summer pointed out what a lot of us probably know already. Social media is a lot less ”social” these days. Between the political commentary and all the ads… many brands are struggling to connect – or reconnect – with their audiences. People and brands are once again seeing the value in creative and engaging IN REAL LIFE events. They key to their success, of course, is the “creative and engaging” part. Stephanie Bingham parlayed a stint with “The Cartoon Network” and Belk into her own agency that specializes in events that do just that. Charlotte's got a lot, as the marketing campaign says, and it's enough to keep drawing people to town. In fact, more than 100 people are moving to town each and every day – that's great for business and our national reputation, but there's a yin and yang to everything, of course.  More traffic, less affordable housing, fewer seats at your favorite restaurant, longer lines at the grocery store… all that.  And it takes smart people to help forecast, design, and engineer solutions that can help fast-growing places like Charlotte roll with the punches. And the changes. And we've got one of those smart people with us here on the BrandBuilders podcast… welcome, Tobe Holmes.

It's probably more than fair to say that “traditional media,” like the kind our parents used to know, is a thing of the past. Newspaper subscriptions have dwindled for years… TV news is a shell of what it was in its prime. And car makers may not even include the AM band on the radio. Sorry folks, your Facebook news feed is NOT the actual news. And what's left of the “news” is arguably entertainment at best, and loaded with pop-up ads. So where do you turn if you want to know what's REALLY going on?? Almost everyone now talks about how critical Magnesium is for us, Dr. Hyman, Andrew Huberman, all of the health industry authorities, and doctors. There is a long list of symptoms and diseases that can be eased or even treated with magnesium. In fact, way back magnesium was a critical element. Doctors used magnesium for all kinds of conditions, from arrhythmia to constipation, to preeclampsia, and even seizures. For some reason, now doctors use it as a last resort and put patients on high doses of Magnesium if they are at risk of premature labor, seizure, and other very serious conditions. It's really essential to our health and our wellbeing. The majority of their clients are in professional services of some type- entrepreneurs, independent consultants, business owners, coaches, trainers, real estate agents, etc. Rory shares the mission of Brand Builders to be helping people find their uniqueness and differentiate themselves from that perspective rather than through the filter of what others are doing.  What is the podcast Rory is running for Success Magazine? Rory talks about the example of Glenn Sanford and eXp realty. Tristan reiterates the importance of one on one focus and ability to relate to brands especially on social media. Rory talks about struggling with sharing the little intimate details of his personal life on social media. He frames a new perspective by asking -Who is your favorite celebrity? If you could have full access to an entire day of their life, what would you say? Although we aren't celebrities, people want to know the person behind what they see. A revenue building engine is an automated digital ecosystem around personal brand that pumps content out into the universe without taking a person's time. How does Brand Builders create a content marketing strategy? Rory explains how they focus on creating fans not just purchasers and making a difference. Do you spend a lot of your mental energy on choosing the right hashtags, constructing your home page for opt-ins, and conversions? There is nothing wrong with any of that. Rory gives some advice to spend more time focusing on trust. When are people ready to buy? How do you create systems that capture them? Rory shares how he utilizes his feed versus his story on Instagram. The problem is never giving away too much and then they won't buy. On this episode of the Lab Coat Agents Podcast, Jeff talks to Rory Vaden. He is an absolute beast, a stud, an expert, a guy that Jeff has looked up to and has read both of his books.  Rory has built a group called Brand Builders. He is a top 100 speaker, two-time world champion, best-selling author for ‘Taking the Stairs' and ‘Procrastinating on Purpose'. Rory's TEDx has been viewed over 3 million times.  Episode Highlights: Rory explains how he started a brand builders' group, and he prepared one on one personal brand strategy for anyone they called mission-driven messengers. Brand Builders teaches people how to build and monetize their brand, reaching more people; He desires to make a difference in his community, industry, profession, and trade. Jeff asks, “How do I need to shift my mindset to understand why what you do is valuable to my business?”  Personal branding is simply the digitization of reputation. Rory explains how it is built on trust. 82% of Americans say that companies are more influential if their founders or executives have a personal brand they know, trust, or follow. For the most part, what you had for lunch or what's going on with your kids, or the trophies you want or your latest listings, all of those are irrelevant to someone who is a visiting stranger, says Rory. You try to use your brand to drive awareness for something that you are doing because there are only a few ways to monetize a personal brand. Ads and affiliates mean I'm not selling my audience anything. I'm selling other people access to my audience, and they're paying me to have the opportunity to put their brand in front of my audience, says Rory. What can you do to add value to the person you're trying to reach? The content you put out should be what is helpful for the person you're trying to target.  Some principles apply to everybody, but the honest answer, there's not a right answer to each thing, there's only a right answer for you. 58% of Americans said they would be willing to pay more money to receive the same service from a professional with a personal brand versus someone who worked at just a large company that they didn't know.  Jeff says, just because the brand is more prevalent, it might lend credibility; But at the end of the day, it's still going to come down to the individual and whether it's your statistics, personality, or reality, whatever it is, that is why people will choose you. For individual real estate agents, some are still struggling- To answer their questions of: Where should I go from here? What should I do next time? Do I need to define my content strategy and the platform? Where do I go and where do I start at the very basic level? Rory gives his advice. You have to be the go-to leading authority on something; If you are not, you are the noise. So even though you're frustrated that there's noise, you are the noise. The narrower you are, the more money you make because you are most powerfully positioned to serve the person you once were. Confidence and certainty come from clarity and most small business owners are completely unclear. They are unclear about who they serve and about what makes them different.   3 Key Points: Many people, when they hear the term personal branding, their mind goes to “You guys do websites”, or “You do graphic design”, or “You do logos and colors” for example. Those are branding agencies, and Brand Builders with Rory is the strategy firm. Personal branding is the digitization of reputation. It allows people to get a chance to be exposed, not to your company, not to who you work for, not to what you do, not even really to what you know but to who you are. That is the human experience available today in a more scalable way than ever before in history because of personal branding. One of the natural ways to differentiate is just based on who you are. So we do business with people who we trust. We trust people who we see, who we learn from, and who we know something about, says Rory. Thanks for tuning into the Instant Impact podcast! To celebrate the 50th episode of the podcast, this week’s conversation is something a little different. This week, Elyse is a guest on the Passion Accomplished podcast with Alberto Sardiñas. She’s talking about what she knows best--being yourself. It’s a fact--what makes you uncopyable is being yourself.   As a listener, you might already be familiar with Elyse’s story. Her incredible career journey from selling Yellowpages to making multiple six-figures at a corporate job. She had the house, the car, and everything she thought she needed to feel accomplished. In reality, Elyse battled her own demons. At 27, she discovered a podcast hosted by Rory Vaden. At that point, she began to shift her focus to mindset and growth. Personal development became a priority. And so she left her corporate job to pursue sales coaching. The rest is history. After some unexpected changes in her business and 30 days of intense stress, Elyse made the incredibly difficult position to pivot into another pursuit. She was left feeling lost, worried, and in a way, confused. She knew she needed to do something different. And with the unexpected death of a close friend, Elyse was offered the opportunity to reevaluate what she wanted to be about. Her answer? Generosity. To others and to herself.  And now she has built her personal brand in helping others find theirs. Through generosity, she helps others create greater impact in less time and become more visible through the power of that same selflessness. Elyse talks about how listening to your gut, despite it sometimes feeling illogical, can lead to truly amazing things. You’ve been giving this feeling for a reason--it’s no mistake. There are no leaps without fear when you’re playing big. Take action every single day towards that goal. Often, she says, the path isn’t revealed until you take that next step.    Then, Elyse shares her tips on building reputation in a new professional space. She teaches the reputation formula: results x reach = reputation. She looks at what you do really well, what you’ve accomplished, what you can teach, and multiplies it by your reach--those who KNOW all of this. When it comes to your results, it is a way to craft what problem you solve, what your uniqueness is, and how you can help them. The reach is your audience. They can be local or online. Both elements are equally important! Elyse breaks down Sheehan’s Wall, a concept the team at Brandbuilders developed that says in every industry, there is an invisible wall. On one side, there are those who are known. On the other side, those who are not. Many people are trying to break through to get to the known side. Many times, to get to the other side, they need to be clear on “why me?” among many other questions. Those who get hyper-focused on that “one thing” for that “one person” and they go all-in. Once you’re on the other side, it doesn’t matter what you say, people will listen because YOU are YOU.  To get started, Elyse is a big fan of being as specific as you can. Break through the wall there and move on to your next challenge! It may take less or more time, but it’ll take less time regardless--if you’re focused.  Finally, Elyse gives a sneak peek into the Brand DNA Helix, a series of six questions that can help you get clear on what your uniqueness is:   What problem do you solve? What are you passionate about? What results do you have? What are you an expert in? What would people buy from you? What business do you want to be in?   Somewhere between those questions is your business model.   Links ea.brandbuildersgroup.com for a free personal brand building course! I want to introduce you to my latest podcast guest as his message is one that productive real estate professionals, like us, need to hear. Rory Vaden is a proven thought leader and influencer. He has written two Best Selling books, Take the Stairs in 2012 and Procrastinate on Purpose in 2015. His TEDx talk, titled How to Multiply Your Time, has been viewed over 3.1 million times on YouTube. Rory is professional speaker that has mastered the process of delivering a keynote presentation. He is a two time World Championship of Public Speaking finalist and has been recently named one of the top 100 speakers in the world by Inc. Magazine. Recently, Rory was voted into the Speaker's Hall of Fame. Rory and his wife, AJ, co-founded a coaching and consulting business that helped salespeople learn strategies that helped people, like me, grow their business, focus on what truly matters, and lead the life we were designed to live. After a decade of growing their coaching business, they decided to launch a company called Brand Builders that helps people build and monetize a personal brand. My professional relationship with Rory Vaden started in 2009 and developed into a friendship. I was personally coached by Rory. His advice has lead me to some amazing mountain top experiences in my career; such as, partner in a real estate brokerage in 2011, REALTOR Magazine "30 Under 30" in 2012, company Top Producer from 2012-2015, founder of my own brokerage company (Calibrate Real Estate) in 2016, and Denver Business Journal "40 Under 40" in 2017. Our professional relationship has developed into a friendship as I mentioned before. Perhaps the most important benefit of Rory's tutelage is that I have: strengthened my faith as a Christian, become a better family man as a husband for Courtney and father for our three children, and learned to live a debt-free life as I paid off over $450,000 in loans while working with him. Rory and AJ Vaden's company, Brand Builders, is on a mission to help professional service providers, like real estate agents, learn that they can build and monetize a personal brand, so that they can leverage that brand that creates more revenue, makes lead generation easier, and does influential work that matters. In our 100th podcast episode, Rory will teach you that a personal brand needs to be: digital, automated, recurring, evergreen, and scalable (an acronym that he calls D.A.R.E.S.). Rory will also explain his Brand DNA Helix which helps to answer six important questions every real estate professional needs to answer for their business. Display TranscriptRobert Plank: Jon Haver has been building online businesses for the past 7 years and just recently left his day job to pursue online entrepreneurship full time. His current focus is turning Amazon Affiliate sites into FBA businesses and has generated a 500% ROI. I don't know about you guys but I'm super excited. How are things today, Jon? Jon Haver: Things are great, it's a nice sunny day here and just looking out over some water at my [inaudible 00:00:42] office setup and it's fantastic. Robert Plank: Just living the dream. Cool. I understand that you're going to be telling us today about affiliate sites and about Amazon FBA, so could you get us all caught up and tell us about what exactly is it that you do? Jon Haver: Sure. I think like probably a lot of people I started out online just kind of as little bit of a hobby. Instead of playing computer games I was building a business, building up websites. Got more serious about it when my son was being born a few years ago and the model I picked at the time was building up authority sites, content-driven authority sites that make money by driving people to Amazon or other sites, but primarily Amazon Associates was my main passive income portfolio sort of income stream. One of the sites that I picked up -- like probably most people on the podcast had been hearing about -- FBA and how great it is. I, again, probably like most people, always had the struggle of chasing after too many shiny objects, so I always swore to myself that I wasn't going to jump into FBA until I had a competitive advantage. Then when I was looking through analyzing some of my sites in my affiliate portfolio, one of the sites I noticed was driving a lot of sales of a product that I was pretty sure was private labeled. I just flipped that model and said, "Instead of sending traffic to Amazon to a non-discreet product, I would send traffic to Amazon to a product that I was importing." I used an Amazon affiliate site to drive the growth of my FBA business that I started. Robert Plank: I like a lot of what you just said there and a lot of your thought process as far as you look at the portfolio you have, you look at the competitive advantage you have because, I don't know about you but a lot of the people that I chit chat with and my peers and people like that, they'll build up a site -- like you said, like an authority site for example -- and they'll just kind of dabble a little bit and play around. They'll get a little bit of traction but it seems like, especially with stuff like Amazon and Amazon Associates and FBA and Kindle and pretty much any hot, high traffic marketplace, there's always the slap. I think what I see a lot of are people, after trying enough experiments they luck out into something good, but then they get slapped down a little bit and then they just completely give up. I really like what you just shared there how you had this site that was linking to some affiliate products and getting like 5%, 15%, and then you said, "Okay, well the traffic's going from A to B anyway so I might as well just cut out the middle man," so you get more money from the same traffic. Is that right? Jon Haver: Exactly. With Amazon Associates, when the account's big enough you're getting 8%. My goal was to turn as many 8%'s into still make that 8% but also make -- whether it's 30% margin or 40% margin on my physical goods -- so turn as many 8%'s into 38%'s. Robert Plank: Cool, so how comfortable are you with sharing some numbers or niches? How detailed do you want to go into this case study? Jon Haver: Sure, I'm happy to share numbers. Because there was a sale I can't share much details about the ... I can share that it was kind of a fashion clothing pro...

One of the most frustrating issues sellers run into on the Amazon platform is when they get some success under their belts with a great product and then wake up one morning to find that someone has hijacked the Amazon listing where they sold their product. It’s a black hat way that people without morals try to take over your listing with an inferior product while claiming that they are selling the identical product. It hurts your sales and could ruin your entire brand if you don’t safeguard your products. On this episode Jon Haver shares what’s happened to his listings and how he went about securing his products so that others cannot hijack a listing effectively. It’s important to do what you can to avoid Amazon listing hijackers in the first place There are steps you can take to remove a hijacker from your product listing on Amazon once they’ve begun tampering with your brand. But there are steps that can be taken to prevent it from happening in the first place. On this episode Jon Haver tells the story of how his products were hijacked and what he’s discovered about the things you can do to keep them from having a desire to target your product as a hijacking prospect. Be sure you listen to this episode where Scott asks Jon all the details. The role Amazon’s Brand Registry plays in preventing product hijackers. If you’ve not registered your private label products with Amazon’s Brand Registry you need to do it today. It’s one of the ways that Amazon has created for you to give yourself some security when it comes to the ownership of your brand. You do some specific things to prove to Amazon that your products are indeed your very own branded products and Amazon places you in its database as the “owner” of that product. This helps with the eventuality of hijackers trying to take over your episode so that you can maintain control of your brand, product, and sales. Discover the steps to protecting your listing with Brand Registry on this episode. A security system for your Amazon product listings. If you lived in a high crime area in your city you would likely have a home security system installed to monitor your home. A security system doesn’t keep criminals from breaking into your home, but it gives you a warning immediately when it happens and might even notify the police. Jon Haver has developed a “security system” of sorts for Amazon listings to give you notification when a potential hijacker has jumped on your product listing. This enables you to take immediate action to protect your listing and your product brand. Find out how you can use Jon’s service to protect your product listings. Would you like a discount on your own “watch dog” for your private label listing? One of the most important things you need to do when a hijacker begins tampering with your product listing is to take action immediately. But you can’t do that if you don’t know that a hijacker has begun making changes on your product listing. What can you do to find out sooner? You can get your very own watchdog that will “bark” to let you know that a potential hijacker is on your site. Jon Haver has created a great software solution to enable you to take immediate action when a hijacker shows up and he’s giving a special discount to everyone in the TAS community.
