The Cole Harbour Rural Heritage Society is continuing the legacy of one of its founding members. Rosemary Eaton was an English photojournalist who moved to the area in the 1960s. She immediately fell in love with the sights and sounds of the Cole Harbour Salt Marsh, and fought tirelessly to protect it from urban development. The CBC's Erin MacInnis visits a new outdoor classroom there, where people young and old are invited to enjoy the wetland and its bounty of 'critters,' and learn about Rosemary's passion for environmental conservation.

First, a look at the big political story of the week - the government announcing a carve out of the new carbon tax for those heating with oil. This announcement has been criticized from all sides, and may be the biggest political blunder of this government. Notably, it appears to have been spearheaded by the NS MP's, lead by Atlantic Caucus Chair, Kody Blois, who briefly practiced law before being elected. Other national stories I discuss include the recommendation that responsibility for correctional services for Indigenous offenders be devolved to those communities, as overrepresentation of Indigenous offenders in federal prisons has climbed again in the last ten years from 25% to 32%. I also review the Foreign Interference Inquiry, which is going to look into interference into the 2019 and 2021 elections. In Nova Scotia legal news, William Sandeson has been denied bail by our Court of Appeal, new Judge Bronwyn Duffy was critical of police for not ensuring there was strong identification evidence in an prowling/arson trial, and Judge Del Atwood assisted a self represented accused on a resisting arrest charge. Finally, I review the tragic death of Hollie Boland this week in Cole Harbour, and the questions it raises about the bail system in Nova Scotia. The questions are fair, though I am concerned with some of the comments coming from the President of the Crown Prosecutors Association of NS about the incident, and discuss why.
Puck drop for the new professional women's hockey league happens in January, and rosters are quickly filling up. Guest host Preston Mulligan speaks with Cole Harbour's Alexis Miller, who is the league's new director of player experience.

Sidney Crosby may have been born with an incredible amount of natural talent, but if you ask anyone who knew him as a kid they'll all tell you that he was also one of the most determined, hard working athletes they'd met. So how does a coach take on the responsibility of shaping a young talent like Sidney's before he makes the NHL? We sit down with Maritime Sports Hall of Fame inductee Paul Mason who shares stories of what it was like coaching Crosby as a young athlete, and eventually being called the most influential coach Sidney has ever had. About Today's Show In today's episode, we speak with the Dean of Students and Indigenous Education, Mark Solomon. What can Seneca do differently to foster an overarching culture of equity, diversity and inclusion in all aspects of the College? What are those aspects of the Seneca process that exclude cultures, or genders, or abilities, because those processes evolved without the input of everyone who should have been at the table, so to speak, but weren’t. That's a really big question, and Seneca is tackling it as part of their Au Large project we talked about with President Agnew. Today's guest, Mark Solomon, has been tasked with leading that initiative to make Seneca College a more inclusive, and equitable, place to study and work. In today's episode we talk about the initiatives that are underway to turn the vision of a more equitable, and inclusive Seneca College, into a reality. Also in this episode, we talk about: 1. Potential blind spots to people who are different from us, and how we can identify those blind spots. 2. How the pandemic has impacted people different, particularly based on privilege. 3. What can we do as individuals to gain more awareness of diversity within our communities? We also asked Mark to create a media playlist! The latest UFC gossip in a busy week is one thing, but there is nothing like getting to know your favorite co-hosts, so spend some time getting to know Jay and Joe. Jay Kelly (@JayKellyMMA) gives some insight into his life as a kid athlete, and Joe Rizzo (@RearNakedChoke) gave some thoughts about his unique background. But it did not get in the way of talking about the world of MMA, from betting lines for the main event of UFC Fight Night 89 in Ottawa, Ontario, to actor Sam Heughan's tweet back to Rizzo (even though Kelly still does not know who he is). But one thing Kelly knows is MMA Reddit, and he explained why he likes it and a bit of how it works. The conversation twisted from Michael Bisping's trainer and recent RNC Radio guest Jason Parillo, to who the best athlete in the history of Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia is (hint: Sidney Crosby vs. TJ Grant isn't much of a fight when it comes to this battle). There was even talk of the Stanley Cup Finals Game 5 in which the San Jose Sharks staved off elimination in beating Crosby's Pittsburgh Penguins. For about the 10th time this year, RNC Radio is enjoying its best week ever, and would like to thank the growing audience for their support.
