Join us on a 3-hour journey with General Steele of Smif-N-Wessun as we deep dive the '95 classic, Dah Shinin. General Steele gives us some insight on the making of each track off the album, as well as shares some intimate details about recording in D&D Studios, confirming the rumor that Jay-Z was denied access during the 1, 2 Pass It collaboration, plus you'll hear remarkable stories about 2Pac, Sean Price, Buckshot, Puffy and learn much more...like he is a Trekkie? This was an amazing interview and album breakdown with Steele and we know you're gonna love! www.takeitpersonalradio.com Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/TakeItPersonal Online store: https://take-it-personal.creator-spring.com/ (enter BUCKTOWN for 25% off)

On episode 151, we're teleporting back to 1995. If you had a 5-disc CD changer in the whip, chances are you had Dah Shinin' in one of those slots.   Tek and Steele announced their presence with authority on Enta da Stage in '93, then dropped the classic Bucktown b/w Let's Git It On single in early '94, which had everyone patiently waiting for their album.  In January '95, the wait was over and Dah Shinin' immediately became a favorite. With their witty harmonizing 1-2 punch, along with the Da Beatminerz, Dah Shinin' was classic upon first listen and the birth of what we now know as the Boot Camp Clik.  We're joined by General Steele, as we go track-by-track with him on Dah Shinin'. Learn all about your favorites, whether it's Timz 'n' Hood Chek, Sound Bwoy Bureill, Bucktown, Hellucination, Let's Git It On or Cession at da Doghillee. Steele shares intimate details about the making of every track, including the remixes and some non-album cuts.  Steele also shares some hilarious and fascinating stories about recording @ D&D Records, Buckshot, Sean Price, working with Mary J. Blige and of course Tupac Shakur.  If you're a Smif-N-Wessun fan or a Boot Camp fan, you're not going to want to miss this episode!   Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/TakeItPersonal Online store: https://take-it-personal.creator-spring.com/ (enter BUCKTOWN for 25% off) www.takeitpersonalradio.com

Time for the 9th round of “Rerun Forensics” on Yeah Uh Huh with Lisa, Phil, and Aaron! This time, we're revisiting one of the most revered television shows in history, MASH! Way back in episode 4 Lisa and I remembered some of our favorite episodes and characters in the series' history. But in this installment we break down a single episode. Namely, "The General Flipped at Dawn", checking in as episode one of its' third season. This episode featured the first appearance of Harry Morgan as General Steele, a regular army zealot with more problems than immediately meets the eye. The very following year, Morgan would return permanently as Colonel Sherman T. Potter in an iconic turn. Our dear friend Tango returns for this special episode and helps us try and understand the cultural differences that often make television from this era difficult to watch. #MASH #TheGeneralFlippedAtDawn #GeneralSteele #JamieFarr #AlanAlda #LarryGebhart #LorettaSwitt #LarryLinville #MalibuCreekPark YUH Theme by David T and Mojo 3 https://www.amazon.com/Insanity-Sobriety-Blues-David-Mojo3/dp/B091N8BJNB Suicide is Painless by Johnny Mandel https://open.spotify.com/track/1OEQ25mOQtIAFIIA3WRL4x?si=522407eecd394611 Watch The General Flipped at Dawn on Amazon Prime https://www.amazon.com/M-S-H-Season-3/dp/B07K3N25WN Yeah Uh Huh on Facebook https://facebook.com/YeahUhHuhPod Yeah Uh Huh on Twitter https://twitter.com/YeahUhHuhPod Yeah Uh Huh on Spotify https://open.spotify.com/show/7pS9l716ljEQLeMMxwihoS?si=27bd15fb26ed46aa Yeah Uh Huh on Apple Podcasts https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/yeah-uh-huh/id1565097611 --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/yeah-uh-huh/message

Quantity is not synonymous with quality. Vermont-based producer Es-K is one of the rare artists capable of creating an abundance of progressive, captivating music. Between 2012 and 2014, he released 24 volumes of his Spontaneous Grooves series via celebrated instrumental label Cold Busted. Totaling over 300 beats, Spontaneous Grooves was a testament to his work ethic as much as it was the strength of his Madlib-like range. Building Bridges, one of his many collaborative projects with Smif-N-Wessun's General Steele, is jazzy but hard hitting, the insightful rhymes complemented by Es-K's skull-cracking drums and brilliantly arranged samples. His 2018 solo album Koan displays another of his many sides. Heralded as one of the "Best Beat Tapes on Bandcamp," Koan is a meditative record of alternately lush and expansive suites, each offering the listener a chance to escape or reflect. Es-K continues to work tirelessly to create new beats that both meet his high standards and expand the scope of instrumental hip-hop. BANG! @southernvangard #radio presents the GRAND DADDY I.U. interview session! First up - big up the homie Oxygen for making this interview happen - the LI connect is real. We returned from summer break a few weeks ago with Ep258 and dropped a joint from I.U.’s brand new LP, “The Essence” which is entirely produced by I.U. himself and has an unf*ckwitable lineup: Sadat X, Rah Digga, Bumpy Knuckles, Lil Fame, O.C, Babs Bunny, General Steele, Method Man, Craig G, Large Pro, Ruste Juxx, Inf Da God, Money Harm, DV Alias Khryst, John Jiggs and more! We get the behind the scenes story on how this record came to be, the production tools I.U. used and we get his perspective on putting out a record in 2020 - some 30 years after his debut LP, “Smooth Assassin”. Speaking of, we crack open the history books as well and talk about the Cold Chillin’ days, how he found out about GZA taking shots at him on “Labels” and his longtime working relationship with Roc Marciano - ya’ll hear about that Roc Marci / Devin the Dude cut produced by I.U. that never saw the light of day? Oh, and it was supposed to be released on Carson Daly’s hip-hop label at the time?! We’ve told ya’ll too much - you gotta check in to get the rest. Cop “The Essence” today (there’s limited green vinyl, don’t sleep), hit play and remember it’s ALWAYS that #SmithsonianGrade #TwiceAWeek #WeAreTheGard // southernvangard.com // @southernvangard on #applepodcasts #stitcherradio #soundcloud #mixcloud #youtube // #hiphop #rap #undergroundhiphop #boombap #DJ #mix #interview #podcast #ATL #WORLDWIDE #RIPCOMBATJACK Recorded live August 16, 2020 @ Dirty Blanket Studios, Marietta, GA southernvangard.com @southernvangard on #applepodcasts #soundcloud #youtube #spotifypodcast #googlepodcasts #stitcherradio #mixcloud #SmithsonianGrade #TwiceAWeek #WeAreTheGard twitter/IG: @southernvangard @jondoeatl @cappuccinomeeks

In this in-depth interview, Host Cril talks with "General Steele" of renowned Hip Hop Duo "Smif-N-Wessun". The discussion begins with the inspiration for Smif-N-Wessun's latest LP "The ALL" and takes it back to how the group came to be. Steele gives dope insight into how he originally met members of the distinguished Boot Camp Clik, reflecting back on their days of coming up in Brooklyn. Our Host "A-Level' was not present for this show but sent in some intriguing questions about the 1995 Source Awards and what is was like for Smif-N-Wessun to be a part of the Award nominations that year as well as the tense scene with NY hip hop meeting artists of the South and West Coast for one of the first collective times. Steele also took time to talks about his relationship with the Late Great "Sean Price" as well as his experience working with the Late Great "Tupac Shakur" as well. This interview clocks in almost close to an hour including so much more topics and takes on a really relaxed vibe. Much Props to General Steele for granting us the time to build and big ups to Tek who wasn't able to be present for the interview on both releasing what I consider to be one of the very best Hip Hop albums to come out this year entitled "The All". It definitely is sure to make my top 10 if not top 5 and already one of my favorite "Smif-N-Wessun" Albums of all time. Be sure to check out the full audio interview here, on spotify or itunes as well as on our Out Da Box Radio station and look for the video soon on youtube. Special thanks as well to Cynical for hooking up this wonderful interview, shout to Taliagem for recording the video and assisting in the interview and thanks to Cast Sound lab studios for the recording space. Enjoy!

General Steele (birth name Darrell A. Yates, Jr.) is an American rapper, famous as half of the underground rap duo Smif-N-Wessun, and as a member of Hip Hop supergroup Boot Camp Clik. Career-Steele and Smif-N-Wessun partner Tek made their debut on Black Moon's classic 1993 album Enta Da Stage on the tracks "Black Smif-N-Wessun" and "U Da Man". The duo was signed to Buckshot's Duck Down management, and released their debut single "Bucktown" in 1994, followed by their debut album Dah Shinin' in early 1995. The release was influential over the New York City Hip Hop scene of the mid-1990s and is now hailed as a rap classic. The duo soon changed their name to the Cocoa Brovaz due to a lawsuit from the Smith & Wesson firearms company, and released their second album The Rude Awakening in 1998, featuring the singles "Won on Won", "Black Trump" and "Bucktown USA". After the temporary demise of Duck Down Records, the duo signed to Rawkus Records, and appeared on a number of Rawkus releases, including the Soundbombing II compilation, the Lyricist Lounge 2 compilation, the Lyricist Lounge III compilation and Talib Kweli's Quality album. The duo returned to Duck Down Records for a 2002 Boot Camp Clik effort The Chosen Few. In 2004, Steele released a solo mixtape titled Amerikkka's Nightmare, a release which was heavily politically influenced. Tek and Steele returned as Smif-N-Wessun in 2005 for the release of their third album Smif 'N' Wessun: Reloaded. Steele is featured on the Boot Camp Clik album The Last Stand, released on July 18, 2006. In 2010 Steele released Amerikkka's Nightmare Part 2, which again featured heavily political lyrical content. Steele is also the older brother of fellow Boot Camp member, Top Dog, who is part of the Originoo Gunn Clappaz. This is the latest episode of the syndicated FuseBox Radio Broadcast with DJ Fusion & Jon Judah for the week of July 22, 2009 with some new and classic Hip-Hop & Soul Music, news and commentary. Our commentary this week focused on the interesting occurences & post-sitations with our U.S. Justice System & Black Men in the recent arrests of Dr. Henry Louis Gates, Wise Intelligent of Poor Righteous Teachers and Paradise Gray of the X-Clan. We also touched base on the recent freeing of football player Michael Vick and singer Chris Brown's YouTube apology and the differences between how media portrays the two men after their legal cases and punisements have been resolved. The FuseBox Radio Broadcast's commentary also touched on some other topics of discussion here and there. We had a great interview this week on the FuseBox Radio with Motivational Speaker, Author & Business Consultant Jawar (http://www.jawarspeaks.com). Some of the topics we talked about was his past history, how he decided to get into his businesses - the music industry, writing & promoting books (author of over 20+ successful titles) and lastly being an independant movitivational speaker, advice about how to become a successful entreprenuer without selling yourself out, his latest book & radio projects and some other dope things! This week we do have new Black Agenda Report segment. The Direct EFX segments will return at the end of the HBCU's college summer break period in September.
