  Should social media companies continue to rely on ex post standards to regulate what their users post? Or should platforms look to free speech jurisprudence to make these determinations? Are these companies publishers entitled to free speech protections? Or are they just platforms primarily concerned with hosting their users' content?  As this debate goes on, Evelyn Douek thinks this framing misses the point. Douek, of Harvard Law School and the Knight First Amendment Foundation, argues that a free-speech paradigm gives social media entities a possibly undeserved amount of authority to shape domestic and international events. Instead of trying to draw the line between "good" and "bad" speech, she recommends a systems level ex ante regulatory in which online platforms are treated as bureaucratic agencies and regulated using administrative law norms such as accountability and transparency.  You can find more about Evelyn Douek's work on her website, and you can follow her on Twitter.

Samuel Douek is a film director, artist and entrepreneur based in London. Having trained as an Architect (The Bartlett and RCA), he began making documentaries in 2016 exploring the intersections between LGBTQ+ subcultures and the built environment, directing several mini-series for Grindr's content channel INTO such as the well-received PROLIFIC. Since then Samuel now works on music videos, commercials and fashion films. He has worked with brands including Uber, Amazon and Absolut Elyx, shooting their new bottle campaign. He has collaborated with artists including Kara Marni, AU/RA, Denai Moore and Aurora. And he has won several film festival awards for experimental documentaries JUS+ LIKE ME and STONEWALL 2069. Aside to filmmaking Samuel is a visual and performance artist and produces a number of LGBTQ+ events such as the bi-monthly club night BUM.P and the travelling queer performance and community space the CAMPerVAN which has travelled Europe bringing the wonder of LGBTQ+ visual art into a public sphere. In 2018 he was named one of the British Fashion Council's New Wave Creatives. Most recently, Samuel has founded a sex-positive community lifestyle brand and zine called HOWL with aims to break down the taboo surrounding anal sex with a range of CBD Anal Lubricants, live events, performance symposiums, limited edition merch and educational tools. The first HOWL event of 2021 will be on Saturday 30th January and will be a collaboration with the queer and trans stripping collective Harpies in the Sky. Sleepy glutes… yes, this is an actual thing for many runners. And it’s just one of an assortment of issues runners can suffer from. Whether it’s injury, weakness, or just inefficiency and injury prevention, a great physical therapist works individually with athletes to increase performance. And that is exactly what PT Abby Douek, owner of and therapist at Run Raleigh Physical Therapy and Performance Lab, does with her athletes. In this episode, we learn a lot about form; how to analyze it, including the differences between 2D and 3D gait analysis, and how to improve it. Strength and conditioning is another crucial component to rehabbing and pre-habbing injuries. And the good news is that it doesn’t take nearly as much time as you might think to improve your functional strength. Abby also challenges some conventional thinking about returning to running post-injury and thoroughly explains common issues runners have and some ways that might help them. Joel Douek is a London born award winning composer and instrumentalist whose music has underscored many films and television productions, including in some of the most prestigious documentaries of the last few years – those of naturalist Sir David Attenborough. From big-screen IMAX features such as the BAFTA-winning film 'Flying Monsters 3D' and the Everest adventure: 'The Wildest Dream' (feat. Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes), dark thrillers such as "Manhattan Night" (feat. Adrien Brody, Yvonne Strahovski) and “The Tall Man” (feat. Jessica Biel), Douek's music has brought many a scene to life. He has scored over 80 documentaries, including the multi-EMMY-winning BBC series 'First Life with Sir David Attenborough'. Earlier in his composing career he scored iconic animations such as 'YU-GI-OH!', 'Sonic X' and 'The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' (2003 Edition), creating many of their classic themes.
