Prof Thomas N. Seyfried is an American professor of biology, genetics, and biochemistry at Boston College. He has been very vocal about the medical community's approach to researching and treating cancer, which he believes has been taken the wrong path of focusing too heavily on genetic mutations. We ask why cancer seems to be so ubiquitous today, what exactly is driving this disease. We hear Prof Seyfried's contention that cancer is not a consequence of genetic mutations but that it is in fact a mitochondrial metabolic disease. Expect to learn about Dr Otto Warburg whose ideas about the origins of cancer 100 years ago are now being proved to be correct according to Prof Seyfried. Discover where fermentation features in the cancer equation. Find out what happens when you deprive tumour cells of glutamine and glucose.Learn why Prof Seyfried is so critical of the medical field's established focus on the downstream effects of genetic mutations, in respect of cancer. We hear about the impact calorie restricted diets had on children with epilepsy and what this means for cancer patients and recovery. Prof Seyfried tells us of the laundry list of negative effects of existing cancer treatments which he believes is simply not working for cancer patients. In this podcast, Dr. Rodney and Karen talk about the Standard American Diet (SAD) and its impact on our health and potential longevity.Despite the fact that the United States outspends more than most of the world on medical care, they rank 43rd in life expectancy among large wealthy countries. What did you eat yesterday? Was it nutrient rich or simply calorie rich?Unfortunately, too many of us are in constant hurry resulting in popping pre-packaged food into the microwave or going through the drive-through. This type of food is calorie rich but has little nutritional value. To make matters worse, we crave more of these food because of the additives included in the package. We pack on extra pounds and damage our body's insulin regulation, deposit fat in the wrong places and increase inflammation throughout our bodies. All this could lead to an early grave. I have invited Certified Nutrition Coach Lauren Allen onto the podcast this week for an educational and eye-opening episode all about how to eat your way to better fertility. In our thirties, we often start to consider our fertility more. One thing that many of us aren't aware of is how much our diet and nutrition can affect our fertility levels. Lauren shares her amazing story from being told she wouldn't be able to conceive naturally after being diagnosed with PCOS, to completely changing her diet and eating habits which led her to fall pregnant naturally. Lauren believes that all women deserve to harness the power of eating foods that help their bodies thrive and her mission is to help women find delicious ways to balance their hormones without feeling deprived or restricted. She coaches women privately and in groups to help them optimize their fertility, decrease period pain, boost their mood and energy, and feel empowered in their health journeys.
