In this episode of The Healers Café, Manon Bolliger, FCAH, CBHT (facilitator and retired naturopath with 30+ years of practice) chats with Janice Litvin about the negative effects of burnout and how to prevent it in the workplace. For the transcript and full story go to: https://www.drmanonbolliger.com/Janice-Litvin     Highlights from today's episode include: Janice Litvin  04:44 But did you know that as early as 2018 66% of American workers were already beginning to suffer from burnout? And of course, that number went up after the pandemic ensued. Janice Litvin  06:10 So, burnout can also come when you are excited, and you are connected to your bigger purpose. Because some people, myself included, get so enmeshed in their work, they forget that family time and family life is equally as important and exhilarating. And so, people get so passionate about their work, they forget to set boundaries around their work time. Janice Litvin  09:27 So, interestingly, the true definition of burnout is somebody who was so mentally and emotionally exhausted, that they can't function in the way that they could before they need a major break. If they can get out of bed, they're lucky.   ABOUT JANICE LITVIN: Janice Litvin is on a mission to help leaders and teams banish burnout in their organizations. She does this through keynotes, workshops and cohort coaching groups. Her workshops take teams through the journey of uncovering their emotional tangles and then changing the way they react to stress. Then she teaches them how to push back and set healthy boundaries. All of this leads to behavior change, burnout prevention and increased employee retention. She also teaches managers how to prevent burnout for their teams. Janice is the president of National Speakers Association of Northern California, and is a member of SHRM, MPI, and ProVisors. For SHRM she is a Recertification Provider and her book, Banish Burnout Toolkit is part of the SHRM Recertification Library. Janice keeps audiences engaged with stories, humor and audience interaction. For fun she leads Zumba Fitness classes. Core purpose/passion: I'm passionate about helping people overcome their emotional tangles buried deep inside formed in childhood. My contention is that most people come to work with unresolved emotional baggage, which comes out at inopportune times. Last week, a few thousand sustainability professionals gathered for the annual GreenBiz conference hosted by GreenBiz Group. In this episode of the ESG Insider podcast, we're on the ground talking with panelists and attendees about the biggest challenges and opportunities facing the space — from regulation, disclosure requirements and supply chains to environmental justice, employee wellbeing and burnout.   Many attendees expressed frustration and a general sense of being overwhelmed by the pace of change and the challenges facing the sustainability space. In the face of this uncertainty, the message from many panelists was: Whatever the topic, you have to start somewhere.   We hear from Kentaro Kawamori, CEO of climate software firm Persefoni, who urges companies to avoid “analysis paralysis.”  “You've just got to get started. And if you're searching for perfect, you're never going to find it,” Kentaro says.  We talk to Deloitte's Kristen Sullivan and Evan Harvey, who led a three-hour, standing-room-only climate disclosure bootcamp at the conference to help companies understand how proposed rules from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission could impact them.    “As we were wrapping up, we were trying to get a pulse on the audience in terms of... did this help you feel more prepared, this type of a session?” Kristen says. “The answer was ‘yes — and at the same time, I'm really scared.'”   We also speak to Yinka Bode-George, CEO of environmental justice-focused nonprofit Sustain our Future Foundation.   "People are getting the idea that environmental justice is not just this nice-to-have, it's actually a really central component of winning on the climate crisis and putting forward the most effective solutions," Yinka tells us.  In the episode, we also sit down with Tim Mohin, the former CEO of international standards organization the Global Reporting Initiative, or GRI; Nasdaq Global Head of ESG Solutions Randall Hopkins; UPS Sustainability Director Stakeholder Engagement Elba Pareja-Gallagher; Zack Parisa, CEO of forest carbon marketplace the Natural Capital Exchange, or NCX; and Jared Connors from supply chain sustainability management company Assent.  S&P Global Sustainable1 was a sponsor of the GreenBiz conference.  Listen to our episode on the SEC's climate disclosure rule here: https://www.spglobal.com/esg/podcasts/unpacking-implications-of-the-sec-s-proposed-climate-disclosure-rule  We'd love to hear from you. For many of us, our homes have turned into workspaces since the pandemic started. And while employee burnout isn't unheard of, remote working burnout seems to be an even more rampant problem that's been on the rise since. Today, I talk to Phil Strazzulla of SelectSoftware Reviews about work from home burnout, and how we can help employees better cope with it.One of the main consequences of the pandemic was how it accelerated the transition to remote work for a lot of businesses. While this is a positive change for a lot of companies in many ways, it has also had some adverse effects. This rapid adjustment to the change in work setup has undoubtedly had an effect on employees in the form of work from home burnout, not to mention the additional stresses to the average worker – fear of the Corona Virus, the global recession, the war in Ukraine – these have all made coping with remote working burnout an even more challenging task. All these factors together have indeed taken employee burnout to a whole new level. And as business leaders, it's our responsibility to try and mitigate this.Stay tuned to hear more of my conversation with Phil Strazzulla of SelectSoftware Reviews, as we dive deep into the problem of remote working burnout or work from home burnout in today's increasingly digital workplace.--------------------CONNECT WITH PETER BOOLKAH:--------------------http://www.Boolkah.comhttps://www.facebook.com/Boolkahhttps://www.instagram.com/pboolkah/https://www.linkedin.com/in/boolkahhttps://twitter.com/boolkah--------------------ABOUT PETER BOOLKAH--------------------Peter Boolkah (AKA The Transition Guy) is the World's #1 Business Transition Coach whose main passion in life is to work with talented and high performing business owners who are in the process of creating exciting, high growth businesses. Peter helps you to navigate and transition through the crucial growth pains that all growing businesses experience making it as painless and exciting as possible. It is important to remember that businesses do not just grow and develop on their own, it is up to us and our teams to make this happen by making every day purposeful. As businesses grow some parts of the journey will be easier than others and most owners do not have all the answers.
