Maybe starting a podcast has crossed your mind, but you’re still on the fence about if it’s worth it. Quickly apologizing: a principle that’s changed our marriage

When Neil and I worked a 12-step program years ago, we both took on a serious commitment to “continue to take personal inventory, and when you’re wrong, promptly admit it.”  This COMMITMENT has completely changed our relationship for the better. But it’s not always easy! And it certainly doesn’t come naturally for me.  Today, we’re sharing a few stories from our own MARRIAGE of how we’ve applied this, exactly what it looks, feels, and sounds like, and how it can change all of your relationships for the better too. The rent is so high when you hold on to pride or resentment. While the payout is so huge when you learn to apologize to the people you love as QUICKLY as possible, and just let love conquer pride, even (and especially) when you’re not at fault.    In this episode, you will hear: Saying “I was wrong” is often just as important as saying “I love you” in healing a relationship.  A commitment to take responsibility for mistakes The great enemy of charity is pride. Pride is one of the biggest reasons marriages and families struggle. Especially when you are not at fault, let love conquer pride.  Cleaning up your side of the street, figuring out where you did wrong in the situation Selfishness is one of the more common faces of pride. Don’t try to be perfect, try to be better. There is so much peace and happiness waiting on the other side of an apology. The central feature of pride is enmity toward God and enmity toward our fellow men.  Satan's trick is to make us feel like we're getting something out of being resentful or being right or holding on to pride or anger.   Supporting Resources: Talk by Dieter F. Many people think that the only way to monetize your blog is with ads, sponsors, and affiliates–but what if that’s not a fit for your business? Patreon is a membership platform that makes it easy for artists and creators to get paid for their work. It allows content creators like artists, musicians, and influencers to focus on their work full-time with the support of their patrons. For fans, the site is a good way of funding the work of your favorite creators, while also getting rewards in return. If you’ve never thought about using Patreon as a way to monetize your blog, today’s conversation just might change your mind! Plus, with the political and social justice climate of 2020, a lot more people are highlighting BIPOC voices than ever before. It may not seem obvious, but understanding your menstrual cycle is the secret to unlocking your intuition and watching your business soar. How? Getting to know your body will help you understand how your mood, energy, and emotions change with your cycle, so you can work with this information–instead of fighting it–and be the most effective version of yourself. My guest today, Lisa Hendrickson-Jack, is a certified Fertility Awareness Educator and Holistic Reproductive Health Practitioner who teaches women to chart their menstrual cycles for natural birth control, conception, and monitoring overall health. In her new book The Fifth Vital Sign, Lisa debunks the myth that regular ovulation is only important when you want children by recognizing the menstrual cycle as a vital sign. Drawing heavily from the current scientific literature, Lisa presents an evidence-based approach to fertility awareness and menstrual cycle optimization. She hosts the Fertility Friday Podcast, a weekly radio show devoted to helping women connect to their fifth vital sign by uncovering the connection between menstrual cycle health, fertility, and overall health.   What you’ll learn in this episode: Why do women not understand our menstrual cycles? An overview of the four seasons and what happens energetically in our bodies How to work with our bodies, give ourselves grace, and make things easier for ourselves A perspective shift for postpartum moms and any woman who struggles with body image What you need to know about birth control and ‘The Pill’ that you’ve probably never heard before   Subscribe and Review Thanks so much for joining me this week. You’ve probably heard this word tossed around, but what does ‘the patriarchy’ really mean?   Dr. Valerie Rein defines the patriarchy as a system of oppression, where historically, the power, economic, political, and moral superiority belong to men; in turn, this reflects in how women are perceived, judged, and how we subconsciously do not trust ourselves, each other, and are not trusted by society.   This isn’t the fault of any particular person, or even ‘men’ as a whole. Everyone plays a role in upholding this invisible system. The beautiful thing is, once we can see the invisible, then we can actually liberate ourselves and create a better world.   My guest today, Dr. Valerie Rein, discovered Patriarchy Stress Disorder (PSD) and created the only science-backed system for helping women achieve their ultimate success, happiness, and fulfillment by healing the intergenerational trauma of oppression. She holds an EdM in Psychological Counseling from Columbia University and a PhD in Psychology from the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology.   Her bestselling book, Patriarchy Stress Disorder: The Invisible Inner Barrier to Women’s Happiness and Fulfillment has been heralded by Amazon reviewers as “the most important body of literary work of our modern times” and “perhaps the most important book of the century for women.” Her cutting-edge programs have helped thousands of women shift from survival to thriving and master the game of “How good can it get?” in their lives and work in the world.   What you’ll learn in this episode:   Who and what is the patriarchy? (Hint: the patriarchy is NOT synonymous with men) The different types of trauma backed with scientific studies How owning your trauma is actually the opposite of a victim mentality The 4 key areas PSD effects How to process the trauma OUT of your BODY, not your mind   Subscribe and Review   Thanks so much for joining me this week. Like Myers-Briggs, the Enneagram, and many other profiling systems, Human Design is a personality model used to dive deeper in the understanding of the self.   Human Design combines layers of ancient modalities like the Sephirot of the Kabbalah, the Hindu-Brahmin Chakra system, the Chinese I’Ching, and Western Astrology with modern sciences like Biochemistry, Astronomy, Quantum Mechanics, and Genetics.   This system helps us understand our unique personal blueprint for our energy, how we make decisions, our strengths and weaknesses, where we are prone to conditioning, and so much more. It illuminates where we’re in alignment with our authentic selves–and where we’re not–so we can work towards more ease and less stress (and ditch the things that DON’T work for us!).   My guest today, Nikki Brafman, is a Human Design Reader, Business Coach, Mama to 1-year-old Julian, and Speaker. She believes that all chaos comes from living and working out of alignment with our design, our mission, and our values. She uses Human Design as a mirror to show her clients their uniqueness and brilliance as she helps guide them from where they are to where they want to go.   What you’ll learn in this episode:   A beautiful lesson in specificity, niching down and celebrating our innate uniqueness How Human Design brings consciousness and spirituality to business with a scientific lens An overview of the 5 human design energy types and what strategy you should use to allow the most amount of flow (and help eliminate stress!) in both life and business What it means to have a sacral vs. emotional inner Authority How to decipher your chart’s Profile and ‘Not Self’ Theme   Subscribe and Review   Thanks so much for joining me this week. Before I went on maternity leave earlier this year, I knew that I really wanted to create passive income in my business while I was away. For the past year, I had been experimenting with live launching my online course, The Six-Figure Blog Academy–see all my launch debriefs here. While I had figured out how to make that work well and even had my first six-figure launch in January 2020, I knew that wasn’t going to be an option while I was on maternity leave. This is when I decided to try moving my course to an evergreen model, thanks to Amy Porterfield’s amazing bonus training in her Digital Course Academy. I had always heard about the magical allure of the evergreen model–where your course is essentially always available to purchase–and it sounded amazing. It’s an automated funnel that, when done well, creates ease and sustainability in your business by bringing in regular revenue. In fact, we earned $58,279.76 in new revenue from our course while I was on maternity leave over just three months! This blew my mind and now I’m convinced of the power of evergreen. But even though things run mostly on auto-pilot with evergreen funnels, it definitely has some drawbacks and is not easy to set up well–especially if you want to do it in a way that feels authentic, while also creating true urgency with buyers. Today, I’m sharing all about the pros and cons of the evergreen course model when it comes to the process of getting it set up, maintaining it, the financial expectations, and the impact of evergreen on your user or student experience.   What you’ll learn in this episode: What an ‘evergreen funnel’ is The pros and cons of this model vs. a ‘closed-cart’ or ‘live launch’ model The key tech tool I use to make this process work on autopilot My 7 tips for going evergreen in your business   Subscribe and Review Thanks so much for joining me this week. Have you dreamed of being a travel writer? It's a job most people hear about it and automatically assume that it's a luxurious lifestyle filled with relaxing vacations and perks. And while that's partly true, there's definitely a lot more to this career than meets the eye. Today we're getting a peek behind-the-scenes at what it really means to have a freelance travel writing career and how to make a six-figure, sustainable living when most people tell you that there's no money in this line of work. (Hint: they're wrong!) We're also discussing what travel trips REALLY look like when you're a journalist, and some of the not-so-glamorous aspects of being a freelance travel writer, plus how to decide what jobs are worth saying yes to. My guest today is my friend, Jennifer Bradley Franklin, an Atlanta-based multi-media journalist, storyteller, editor and author. Her work appears in Conde Nast Traveler, Architectural Digest, Bon Appetit, USA Today, Delta SKY, American Way, People, Food Network, Southbound, Flavors, Hospitality Design, Time.com, Southern Seasons, and a host of others. She holds an ABJ in Journalism from the University of Georgia's Grady College. Jennifer has ridden a camel in Morocco, dug ditches in a remote Kenyan village, been taught to make gnocchi by a master chef in Florence, and learned to surf in Australia. However, one of her greatest joys has been immersing herself in some of the biggest concerns facing America's young people - weighty issues like poverty, hunger and much more--through the research and writing of Make it ZERO. What you’ll learn in this episode: Copywriting vs. editorial work, and how to find the right balance to pay your bills and fuel your soul How to maintain journalistic integrity  How to treat your writing like a business vs. a hobby, plus what making this mindset shift looks like and how it creates powerful results Press trips: what they are, how to get invited, how to maximize your time away and your income when you return   Subscribe and Review Thanks so much for joining me this week. 017: Overwhelmed? How to Become a Minimalist Business Owner with Courtney Carver

Success with Soul

How would it feel if you could simplify your business… and your life? Let’s be real: our modern, hectic lifestyles are overwhelming, exhausting, and downright unhealthy. We are often on a quest for more; we give in to pressure every day to work more, own more, and do more. But why? To what end? When you push so hard, it inevitably leads to burnout. You simply can’t produce great work when you’re burned out, nor can you take care of yourself and be truly present to what matters most like your relationships, health, and overall well-being. The truth is, if you’re always keeping score of how you’re doing based on anything outside of yourself (like if you checked enough items off of your to-do list that day), then it’s time to question your motives for WHY you’re doing what you’re doing. When you embrace more of a minimalist approach to your life and business, you’ll counterintuitively discover that you can create more with less--all while being happier and more free. My guest today is Courtney Carver, a well-known simplicity and minimalist expert. Courtney is the author of Soulful Simplicity and the blog Be More With Less. Courtney moved from a devastating multiple sclerosis diagnosis in 2006 to feeling the best she’s felt in decades, from being deep in debt and clutter to living debt and clutter-free. She realized after years of decluttering and letting go that happiness isn’t waiting for us, it’s within us. Courtney also writes about dressing with less in her book Project 333, The Minimalist Fashion Challenge That Proves Less Really is So Much More. Some of her concepts have truly changed my life, and I can’t wait to share her wisdom with you today!   What you’ll learn in this episode: How to let go of obsessing over your analytics Why people’s comments and reactions are not about you (even when they are!) How do you make soul-centered, big decisions in your business? Tips for creating a minimalist business that prioritizes your health and well-being (instead of always pushing to do more and leading to burnout) A minimalist’s perspective on how to measure and keep score of your progress How to let go of fear, scarcity, and not having or being enough Tips for simplifying your email management   Subscribe and Review Thanks so much for joining me this week. Why do we focus on the negative experiences in our lives, even when there is so much good happening? The answer: it’s a biological design in our nervous system to keep us safe. If you think about it, it makes sense that it was evolutionarily advantageous to remember where pain was found, whereas remembering where you encountered joy was less essential for survival. Nowadays, we fortunately don’t often have to worry about literal survival like our ancestors did, but we still carry threats to our survival ALL the time without even realizing it.  As entrepreneurs, this has an enormous impact on our businesses! Of course, your mental health and emotional wellness play a huge role in your ability to get things done in your business and your life, while feeling joyful and on purpose.  But one sneaky thing most of us don’t realize is that we tend to overly identify with our businesses and think that we ARE our business, and that our safety comes from our business (newsflash: we aren’t and it doesn’t!).  Learning how to feel safe in our bodies and heal from past experiences is ESSENTIAL. It’s the root cause of what we need to get unstuck and start taking the steps to follow our dreams, and that’s exactly what we’re talking about today! My guest today is Dr. Elizabeth Cohen, a clinical psychologist with over 15 years of experience specializing in the treatment of anxiety and depressive disorders. Dr. Cohen has a particular expertise in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and has treated adults, adolescents and children with state-of-the-art CBT treatments.  The underlying goal of Dr. Cohen’s practice is for clients to achieve synchronicity with the person they truly want to be.  Throughout her practice, Dr. Cohen has witnessed hundreds of clients break away from the fear, worry, and despair that had once defined them. She believes that it is a unique gift to be part of their journey towards a new, healthy and fulfilling definition of who they are.   What you’ll learn in this episode: Big T and Little T trauma and how it affects all of us (even if you don’t think it does!)–including how trauma impacts our businesses How to optimize your gratitude practice How to better balance your nervous system, and what flight, fight, or freeze looks like in our business lives How the known, even when it’s bad, keeps us safe from the unknown how healing the trauma IN our bodies (not our minds) can help us feel safe and take the steps we need to follow our dreams Practical solutions for healing trauma in the body   Subscribe and Review Thanks so much for joining me this week. How do you keep your content interesting and inspire people to read it, instead of it being a major snoozefest that makes your subscribers never want to open another email from you again? The secret is that there is actually a formula you can follow to increase the effectiveness of your copywriting--all while humanizing people to be more than just a 'lead' or a 'subscriber'. If you understand why you’re writing what you’re writing and who you’re writing to, it will not only cut down on the time it takes you to write (goodbye staring at a blank page!), but your results will be infinitely better then shooting in the dark when it comes to building community and conversions (hello income and impact!). For example, one of the tips we’ll be sharing with you today is how to use a color-coded personality system to not only create diversity and variance in your emails, but to speak directly to different personality types so everyone on your list feels seen and understood. This system is GOLD!   My guest today is Tarzan Kay, a launch strategist and copywriter who teaches women (and a few good men) how to sell bigger, so they can serve bigger. Tarzan is a master of email marketing and former copywriter-for-hire (working with people like Amy Porterfield) who specializes in fun-to-read, more-addictive-than-Game-of-Thrones email copy. She also helps freelancers attract better clients who’ll reach deeper into their pockets to pay for top-quality services–also using the power of email, duh!   What you’ll learn in this episode: Why being the best and making all the money isn’t the most important thing for your business What it’s like to be the primary breadwinner for your family as a woman living in a patriarchal society while your partner is a stay-at-home-dad The 2 key things Tarzan did to earn over $200K in just her second year of business How to write effective emails that convert using Tarzan’s approach to color-coded personality (based on the DiSC personality assessment–and we even use some Game of Thrones characters to make it more interesting!) How many emails should you send during a launch? Plus the importance of pre-launch emails, her unique ’29-minutes-til-close’ email, and the post-promotion survey   Subscribe and Review Thanks so much for joining me this week. Are you hustling your butt off to market your product, service, membership, or online course? Let me tell you a little secret: there's an easier way! I’m all about working smarter, not harder, and the marketing strategy we’re talking about today fits in perfectly with this philosophy. We’re deep-diving into how to utilize partnerships and affiliates to grow your business. It’s a “quadruple win” because it’s: a win for you (more sales and impact--without ever paying for traffic), a win for your team (it’s fun and takes some of the marketing pressure off), a win for your partners (they get to make money without having to deliver the product or service, all while helping their audience meet a need), and finally a win for the students or buyers (who discover something that helps them solve a problem or reach their goals). In my last Six-Figure Blog Academy launch in January 2020, 54% of sales came from affiliates! That's more than HALF! Partnerships generated over $50,000 in sales for my business in a two-week time period. On my wellness blog Root + Revel, we earned $86,285.10 in 2019 JUST from affiliate marketing alone! Convinced yet? If you have a course, product, or service and have been considering partnerships to make more money and get more sales, I HIGHLY recommend you take a listen! Laura Sprinkle is an affiliate launch strategist for online course creators and coaches who are ready to take their product launches to the next level with the help of affiliate partners. Through her affiliate concierge service, she offers bespoke affiliate solutions and has worked with clients such as Amy Porterfield, Selena Soo, and Todd Herman on some of the biggest and most successful launches in the online marketing world.    What you’ll learn in this episode: Why partnerships are a win-win for both you and your partners The 4 Rings of Recruitment and how to find partners to promote your stuff The 4 Phases of Affiliate Programs and how to get your affiliates to actually care and share about your program How to run your evergreen program like a live launch to build excitement with your partners How to know what partners are a good fit for you and your brand Subscribe and Review Thanks so much for joining me this week. 009: 7 Mindset Shifts to Make Today to Become an Unstoppable Entrepreneur

Success with Soul

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 11, 2020 44:59

Consciously making mindset shifts is the only way you'll bust through your upper limits and become the entrepreneur you've always dreamed about. In today's episode, we're debunking common myths and limiting beliefs when it comes to blogging (or any online business) and how to actually make those important mindset shifts so you can rewrite what's possible for yourself and actually create sustainable change. Don't believe everything you think. Most of what we think are just BELIEFS, NOT TRUTHS. Our minds have a tape player inside them, repeating the same thoughts again and again, day in and day out.  Would you believe that, according to the National Science Foundation, the average person has about 12,000 to 60,000 thoughts PER DAY, and of those thousands of thoughts, 80% are negative and 95% are exactly the same repetitive thoughts as the day before!?  Another interesting study from Cornell University found that 85% of what we worry about never happens. With the 15% of the worries that did happen, 79% of the subjects discovered that either they could handle the difficulty better than expected, or that the difficulty taught them a lesson worth learning. These studies make it pretty clear that if you (like most people) are doing the same things every day, thinking the same thoughts, and talking to the same people–your life is likely going to look and feel pretty much the same day-to-day (and unfortunately, a lot of it is negative). The good news? You already have everything you need to be successful.   Wayne Dyer said, "If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change." With the mindset shifts and limiting beliefs we're addressing in today's show, I know that you'll be able to get out of your own way and make the changes necessary to step into your dreams and kick your old beliefs to the curb. Are you ready to start creating your new reality?   What you’ll learn in this episode: The #1 thing that holds us back from going for our dreams What limiting beliefs are, how to spot them, and--most importantly--how to change them into empowered truths! Why saying, “I’m just so busy all the time!” stunts your growth, and the mindset shift you need to make if you want to create more time in your day What to do when you want something but can't afford it Why you shouldn't wait until you're 'ready' to take action   Subscribe and Review Thanks so much for joining me this week.
