If you're an online entrepreneur, coach, or blogger, you've likely been told that email marketing is key to growing your business. The saying is true, "The money is in your list!" Yet, the complexities of setting up email systems and crafting campaigns can feel daunting. In my newest episode of The Blogger Genius Podcast, I interviewed Rebecca Shostak, co-founder of Flodesk (affiliate), a platform revolutionizing email marketing for small businesses. Rebecca shared her journey from designing merchandise for top music acts like Rihanna and Linkin Park to co-founding Flodesk, a tool designed to make email marketing simple, beautiful, and accessible. In this post, we'll unpack strategies for growing your business, simplifying your processes, and using tools like Flodesk and MiloTree to make your efforts easy, effective, and profitable. Show Notes: MiloTree Flodesk (affiliate) 6 Purchasing Triggers Download The 3 AI Prompts You Need to Create a Freebie Cheatsheet Join The Blogger Genius Newsletter Become a Blogger Genius Facebook Group Subscribe to the Blogger Genius Podcast: iTunes YouTube Spotify Why Email Marketing is Critical in 2025 Email marketing has evolved from a "nice-to-have" to an essential pillar of a successful online business. Here's why: Higher Engagement Rates: While social media posts have a 3-5% visibility rate, email open rates range from 30-80% for engaged audiences. Unmatched ROI: For every dollar spent on email marketing, businesses see an average return of $40. Ownership of Your Audience: Social media algorithms are unpredictable, but with email, you own your subscriber list, ensuring direct communication with your audience. If you're not already building an email list, now is the time to start. Luckily, tools like Flodesk and MiloTree make this process seamless and free. How Simplicity Drives Success In business, complexity can be the enemy of progress. Rebecca Shostak, co-founder of Flodesk, and my recent guest on The Blogger Genius Podcast, shared her philosophy: “Less is more.” This mindset applies to email design, business strategy, and the way you communicate with your audience. Here's how simplicity can transform your efforts: 1. Simplify Email Design Stick to 1-2 Fonts: Consistent typography creates a polished, professional look. Use Ample White Space: Break up content to make it visually appealing and easy to read. Focus on One Message: Avoid cramming multiple ideas into a single email. Instead, send shorter, more frequent emails. 2. Streamline Your Business Strategy Focus on Core Problems: Identify the single biggest problem you solve for your audience and build your messaging around it. Reduce Overwhelm: Avoid overloading your audience with information. Offer one solution at a time. Leverage Simple Tools: MiloTree integrates seamlessly with major email platforms like Flodesk, allowing you to grow your list and sell digital products effortlessly. How to Transition Social Media Followers into Email Subscribers Social media is great for visibility, but it's not where sales happen. Rebecca described email as the “intimate conversation” stage of the customer relationship. Here are actionable tips to transition your social followers into engaged email subscribers: Offer a Valuable Freebie A freebie (also known as a lead magnet) is an excellent way to incentivize followers to join your list. Ideas include: Cheat sheets Mini-courses Discount codes Free shipping Exclusive content (e.g., recipes, travel guides, templates) With MiloTree's Free Plan, you can create an AI-generated opt-in page, upload your freebie, and deliver it to subscribers automatically—all for free. Optimize Your Link in Bio Rebecca highlighted Flodesk's Link in Bio tool, which prioritizes your email opt-in form at the top. Pair this with a strong call-to-action like: “Grab your free cheat sheet now!” “Get 10% off your first purchase—subscribe today!” How to Use Email to Grow Your Business Your email list isn't just a communication channel—it's your most powerful revenue generator. Use it strategically to: Drive Traffic to Your Blog or Website: Send short, snappy emails teasing new content. Sell Digital Products: Whether it's an ebook, course, or membership, email lets you connect directly with your audience to promote and sell. Build Trust: Share personal updates or behind-the-scenes insights to foster a deeper connection with your subscribers. How MiloTree Makes Selling Digital Products Easy At MiloTree, we believe in empowering entrepreneurs to monetize their expertise without the tech headache. In episode 626, Jillian Leslie teaches us how we can effectively monetize our businesses through the creation and sale of digital products. Jillian Leslie is co-founder of the blog, Catch My Party, and software company, MiloTree, which empowers bloggers to sell digital products to their audiences. Jillian is also the host of The Blogger Genius Podcast, where for the past six years, she's been interviewing successful online entrepreneurs, content creators, and industry experts. Jillian's goal is to empower bloggers and creators to build successful online businesses so they can change their lives and have the freedom they crave. In this episode, you'll learn how to get started, selling simple digital products like ebooks or guides, how to leverage tools like ChatGPT for ideas, and MiloTree for easy setup. Key points discussed include: - Start simple with digital products: Begin with an ebook or guide that solves a specific problem for your audience, rather than trying to create an overly complex offering. - Experiment and iterate: Don't be afraid to "do it ugly" and learn as you go. Treat your digital product launches as experiments to help you refine your offerings. - Build relationships with your audience: Focus on becoming a trusted helper and problem-solver for your readers, rather than just a faceless content creator. - Leverage free tools and resources: Use platforms like MiloTree to simplify the technical aspects of selling digital products, so you can focus on creating and marketing. - Grow your email list: See each email subscriber as a valuable asset, and use lead magnets to steadily build your audience. - Consider memberships for recurring revenue: Memberships can provide a steady stream of income, but start small and build a community around your expertise. - Embrace imperfection and give yourself grace: Avoid getting bogged down in perfection; focus on providing value and improving over time. - Prioritize simplicity: When it comes to both your digital products and your tech stack, aim for streamlined solutions that are easy for you and your audience to use. - Seek feedback and input from your audience: Engage with your readers to better understand their needs and refine your offerings accordingly. Guided Thanksgiving Meditation: Embracing Gratitude and New Beginnings

In my recent episode of The Blogger Genius Podcast, I recorded my newest Thanksgiving guided meditation reflecting on our past year, expressing gratitude, and setting our intentions for the year ahead. Here's the transcript of the meditation to read and enjoy. Happy Thanksgiving! Transcript of my 2024 Thanksgiving Meditation: Embracing Gratitude and New Beginnings Jillian Leslie 00:00:04 Hello and welcome back to The Blogger Genius Podcast. I am Jillian Leslie, your host. If you've been listening to my podcast for a while, you know, at Thanksgiving I like to record a short guided meditation. So today I'm calling this meditation "Gratitude and New Beginnings" because these are two concepts I hope to focus on in my own life in the coming year. And I thought you might like to also. So together right now, let's put our busyness aside for these ten minutes and focus on the abundance in our lives and the bright possibilities of the year ahead. So let this be a space for clarity, curiosity, and optimism as we set the stage for new beginnings. So let's take a deep breath. In and out. And again, in and out. And let's settle into the present moment. Allow your body to relax. Your shoulders to soften your mind to quiet and your heart to open. And let's start with gratitude. So right now think about the people experiences and lessons that have shaped you this year. Jillian Leslie 00:01:50 So just take a moment and think about what it is that you're grateful for. Now I'm going to pepper this meditation with just a few of my favorite Mark Twain quotes, because I have been seeing them pop up in things I've been reading, and I've been thinking, Mark Twain just has a way of saying things that penetrate. So let's start with this first quote. The best way to cheer yourself up is to try to cheer somebody else. Have powerful, right? So take a moment to reflect on how those small acts of kindness, both given and received, have brightened your life. Is there someone you've said something nice to you and you've watched them smile, and then you smile in response? Or has someone said something nice to you recently and it's touched you, and you know that it's touched them right back. So feel the warmth of those moments and allow yourself to savor them. We all Impact each other. And now consider how gratitude connects us to something larger than ourselves. So let's meditate on the idea that kindness and gratitude transcend all barriers. Jillian Leslie 00:03:28 Picture yourself surrounded by this light of kindness, radiating outward to touch everyone you meet. And as you do. Take a deep breath. In and out. In and out. As we reflect on the year that's passed, it's easy to hold on to worries and regrets. Now, this quote I looked up recently because if there is one that could sum up my life, it would be this quote. I've had a lot of worries in my life, most of which never happened. So yes, I am a worrier. I'm a planner. I'm always looking for the other shoe to drop. I'm looking for where danger is lurking. And I ask you, does this sound familiar? Because I never go back and say to myself, That turned out okay because I've moved on to the next worry. So reminding myself that sometimes I can spend a lot of my effort consumed, consumed with fear about things that never come to pass. And if I could even take one tenth of that energy and put it toward faith, my overall time on this planet might be a lot lighter. Jillian Leslie 00:05:02 And if only I could channel that energy into more positive uses. So this is the intention I'm setting for myself in the new year. It's trusting in myself, trusting in my friends and family, and knowing that if something does not work out, I have the inner strength to deal with it and move forward. I do believe it's better to live in a world of faith than fear, and I will be working on that. And if you're a worrier too, I challenge you to do the same. Even if it's just in little ways. So please join me. And I'm also going to ask myself, what worries am I holding on to that no longer serve me? Can I say goodbye to them? Can I see them for what they really are? Things that keep me stuck and paralyzed. So together, let's call up a worry. So think of a worry and visualize it in your hands and place it in a box in front of you. And now conjure up another worry. Hold it in your hands. Jillian Leslie 00:06:33 And place it in the box. And finally, a third worry. Hold it and then place it in the box. Now in your mind. Shut the box and push it away from you. So it's no longer near you. So it's completely out of sight. Our fears don't have to define us. And now feel the space we've just created within ourselves a space of peace and openness and readiness for what's to come. And with that, let's take a deep breath. In and out and in and out. Now let's turn our focus toward the future. Imagine what 2025 could hold for you and your business and your family and your dreams. So Mark Twain said, the secret of getting ahead is getting started. I use this exact quote in a bunch of my presentations just to get people to take that first step. So think about what new beginnings you want to embrace in the year ahead. Where can you take that small step forward even today? Please let go of perfection. Embrace, be minus work and lean into progress. Jillian Leslie 00:08:30 So as we picture ourselves moving forward, let's take a deep breath. In and out and in and out. As we envision 2025. Let's approach it with curiosity. Here's another Mark Twain quote I really like. The two most important days in your life are the day you were born and the day you find out why. Let's start that again. As we envisioned 2025, Let's approach it with curiosity. And here's another Mark Twain quote I really like. The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why. Ask yourself, what's my deeper? Why? What fuels me? What lights me up? So let's take a moment to ask yourself that. And now make a note of the first thought that popped into your mind. And make a note of the feeling that idea brought up. Did it light you up? Get you a little excited? So let that purpose guide your vision for the new year. Put on the hat of the helper. Who can you impact? Whose life can you change? This is where you want to go deeper in both your business and your personal life. Jillian Leslie 00:10:26 And I call this having real impact. In fact, picture picture yourself waking up each morning in 2025 with a feeling of hope, creativity and excitement for what lies ahead. So with that vision, take a deep breath. In and out and in and out. Building something new isn't always easy, but it's always worth it when it's aligned with your purpose. 2025 is a year to celebrate your wins, big and small, and let them leave marks of pride and happiness on your heart. You are stronger than you think. With courage, curiosity and resilience, you can create something extraordinary. Take a deep breath in. And out and in and out. One more intention for the year ahead. Think about traveling outside of your comfort zone. Try new things. Meet new people. Take risks. Because this is where the growth happens. What new connections, ideas or opportunities can you open yourself to in 2025? How can you expand your perspective to embrace growth and innovation? Let go of what's not working and instead get curious about what could work. Jillian Leslie 00:12:20 The future is bright. It's full of possibility, and it is waiting for you. So as I close, take one more deep breath. In and out and in and out. Carry with you the gratitude of this moment and the optimism of new beginnings. Remember, 2025 is yours to create one courageous step at a time. Thank you for joining me in this meditation of gratitude and new beginnings. I am so grateful for you, for your vision and your journey. Happy Thanksgiving! I want to hear from you! Now I'd love to hear from you. What are you hoping to create or achieve in 2025 for your business and life? What small, courageous steps are you ready to take? Share your thoughts with me—whether it's an idea for growth, a goal you're setting, or a worry you're ready to let go of. Let's make 2025 the year we embrace curiosity, gratitude, and bold action. Mastering product development and sales, prioritizing problem-solving for your audience, and overcoming perfectionism with Jillian Leslie from MiloTree. ----- Welcome to episode 489 of The Food Blogger Pro Podcast! This week on the podcast, Bjork interviews Jillian Leslie from The Blogger Genius Podcast and MiloTree. Evolving Your Brand: When and How to Sell Products as a Food Creator In this week's podcast episode, Jillian Leslie explains everything you need to know about selling a product as a food creator. Bjork and Jillian discuss the strategy behind developing a product and the importance of leaning into problem-solving for your audience. Jillian also walks listeners through how to get started selling products, how to scale products and generate recurring revenue, and how to overcome perfectionism within your business. Three episode takeaways: Prioritize problem-solving for your audience — As recipe developers, we're always looking to solve problems for our readers. Whether you're developing quick and easy recipes for busy families or vegan recipes for readers hoping to make a lifestyle change, problem-solving is at the center of what we do. Jillian makes the point that the same mentality should apply to developing products to sell and that the more you can market a product as a solution, the more success you'll have. The importance of testing and iteration — Research, testing, and iteration are essential to growing any business, including developing and selling products. Jillian also explains her theory that creators should start by producing B- work and then refine their product from that point. In this interview, she goes into detail about this theory and talks more about how to prevent perfectionism from holding you back. When to transition into paid content—Many content creators struggle with transitioning from providing free content to putting some content behind a paywall. Bjork and Jillian discuss more about overcoming this barrier and how to know when the time is right for you to create your first product (and how to scale your products). ⚡ Book your free 20-minute digital product strategy call with me and discover how to boost your income in Q4! ⚡ As the fourth quarter (Q4) of the year approaches, bloggers are gearing up for one of the busiest and most lucrative times of the year. With major holidays like Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's on the horizon, it's crucial to have a solid strategy in place. In my recent episode of The Blogger Genius Podcast, I share thoughts and strategies on how bloggers can prepare for Q4. I break down actionable steps for how to thrive during this busy season. Show Notes: MiloTreeCart Book a FREE 20-minute call with me Create Your Freebie Cheatsheet with These 3 AI Prompts Write Your Ebook with These 13 AI Prompts MiloTree Pop-Up Join My Blogger Genius Email List Become a Blogger Genius Facebook Group All Blogger Genius Podcast Episodes Subscribe to the Blogger Genius Podcast: iTunes YouTube Spotify Understanding the Importance of Q4 Q4 is a critical period for bloggers due to the increased online activity and consumer spending associated with the holidays. But success during this time isn't about quick fixes or magical hacks. Instead, it's about doubling down on fundamental strategies and focusing on genuine connections with your audience. Key Questions to Guide Your Strategy Here are my two essential questions that every blogger should consider: Where do I have the most impact and connection with your audience? Where are you making money now? These questions are powerful in guiding your efforts and ensuring that you focus on what truly matters. Identifying Your Impact and Connection Points To determine where you have the most impact and connection with your audience, consider the following: Analyze Your Traffic Sources: Look at your analytics to see which platforms are driving the most traffic to your blog. Is it Pinterest, Google SEO, Instagram, or another platform? Engagement Metrics: Assess where your audience is most engaged. Which posts get the most comments, shares, and likes? Feedback and Interaction: Pay attention to where you receive the most feedback and interaction from your audience. This could be through blog comments, social media interactions, or email responses. Understanding Your Revenue Streams Next, identify where your revenue is currently coming from: Display Ads: Are display ads a significant source of income for you? If so, focus on driving more traffic to your blog. Affiliate Sales: If affiliate sales are a key revenue stream, consider creating more content that promotes your affiliate products. Product Sales: Whether you sell digital products, printables, or physical goods, ensure that your marketing efforts are aligned with promoting these items. Doubling Down on What Works I had a plant that thrived but eventually became overgrown and unmanageable. This metaphor illustrates the importance of cutting back on less effective strategies to nurture what is truly working. Here's how you can apply this principle: Focus on High-Impact Platforms Pinterest: If Pinterest is a major traffic driver for you, invest time in creating eye-catching pins and optimizing your boards. Google SEO: Ensure your blog posts are optimized for search engines. This includes using relevant keywords, optimizing meta descriptions, and building backlinks. Instagram: If Instagram is where you connect most with your audience, focus on creating engaging stories, reels, and posts that resonate with your followers. Create High-Quality Content In a world filled with AI-generated content and fleeting trends, I emphasize the value of genuine human connection. Focus on creating fewer, high-quality pieces of content that provide real value to your audience. This approach not only fosters deeper connections but also aligns with what search engines like Google are looking for. Addressing Audience Pain Points Get laser-focused on the specific pain points of your audience. Here's how you can do this: Conduct Audience Research Surveys and Polls: Use surveys and polls to gather insights into the challenges and needs of your audience. Social Media Listening: Pay attention to the conversations happening on social media. What are people talking about? What problems are they facing? Feedback Analysis: Review the feedback you've received from your audience. What common themes or issues emerge? Create Solutions Once you understand your audience's pain points, create content and products that address these issues. For example, I share a story about a gluten-free baker who connected deeply with her audience by acknowledging their struggles and positioning her products as solutions. Growing Your Email List An effective email list remains one of the most powerful tools for monetization. I emphasize the importance of growing your email list and offers the following tips: Create an Irresistible Freebie Identify Pain Points: Create a freebie that addresses a specific pain point of your audience. This could be a cheat sheet, e-book, or printable. Promote It Widely: Share your freebie across all your platforms, including your blog, social media, and email signature. Nurture Your Subscribers Welcome Sequence: Set up an automated welcome sequence to introduce new subscribers to your brand and provide value from the start. Regular Communication: Send regular emails with valuable content, updates, and promotions to keep your audience engaged. Taking a Holistic View of Your Business The secret to business success lies in taking a holistic view of your business. Focus on what truly matters—authentic connections and solving real problems. By doing so, you can set yourself up for success in Q4 and beyond. Consider Adding Digital Products I suggest you consider the addition of digital products to your offerings. Digital products can provide a scalable source of income and offer value to your audience. Seek Expert Guidance To help navigate your next steps, I offers a free 20-minute strategy call. This can be an invaluable resource for gaining personalized advice and insights. Conclusion By focusing on genuine connections, understanding audience pain points, and nurturing effective strategies, you can position yourself for success in Q4 and lay the groundwork for long-term growth. Remember, the key to success lies not in a checklist of tasks but in taking a holistic view of your business and focusing on what truly matters. Understanding Sales Funnels A sales funnel is a step-by-step process that guides potential customers from initial awareness of your and your product to the final purchase. The goal is to create a seamless journey that addresses the specific needs and pain points of your audience, ultimately leading them to make a purchase. Key Components of a Sales Funnel Awareness: Attracting potential customers through content marketing, social media, and other channels. Interest: Engaging them with valuable content that addresses their needs. Decision: Offering solutions that solve their problems. Action: Encouraging them to make a purchase. She uses a five-day challenge as the entry point into her sales funnel. This challenge introduces participants to the concept of meal prep and its benefits for weight loss. Actionable Steps: Create a Free Challenge: Design a short, free challenge that addresses a specific problem your audience faces. For example, a five-day meal prep challenge for busy moms. Promote the Challenge: Use social media, email marketing, and your blog to promote the challenge and attract participants. Engage Participants: Provide valuable content and support throughout the challenge to keep participants engaged. Strategic Email Writing Tammy highlights the importance of crafting strategic emails that guide your audience through the sales funnel. She starts by mapping out the customer journey and considering what her audience needs to hear to take the next step. Actionable Steps: Map Out the Customer Journey: Use pen and paper to outline the steps your audience will take from initial engagement to purchase. Craft Engaging Emails: Write emails that are caring and supportive, focusing on leading your audience rather than pushing for sales. Incorporate Testimonials and Videos: Use testimonials and video content to enhance engagement and build trust. Review Email Statistics: Regularly review your email statistics to refine your strategy and improve performance. Frontloading Sales Funnel Work Creating email sequences requires upfront effort, but once the majority of the work is done, the system becomes automated. This allows you to focus on driving traffic into your funnel and monitoring audience reactions. Actionable Steps: Create Email Sequences: Develop a series of emails that guide your audience through the sales funnel. Automate the Process: Use email marketing tools to automate the delivery of your email sequences. Monitor and Adjust: Continuously monitor audience reactions and make necessary adjustments to improve performance. Advice for New Entrepreneurs Tammy offers three key steps for new entrepreneurs looking to create effective sales funnels: Analyze Audience Engagement: Look at email statistics to understand what content resonates with your audience. Identify Specific Pain Points: Dig deeper into the challenges your audience faces and create products that address these pain points. Generate Product Ideas: Use tools like ChatGPT to brainstorm product ideas that solve your audience's problems. Actionable Steps: Review Email Statistics: Analyze your email open rates, click-through rates, and other metrics to identify what content resonates with your audience. Conduct Audience Research: Use surveys, social media polls, and direct feedback to understand your audience's specific pain points. Brainstorm Product Ideas: Use AI tools and brainstorming sessions to generate product ideas that address your audience's needs. Creating an Opt-In An enticing opt-in is crucial for attracting potential customers. Tammy suggests creating a quick guide or a list of meal starters that help busy moms get dinner on the table quickly. Actionable Steps: Identify a Specific Problem: Focus on a specific problem your audience faces and create an opt-in that provides a solution. Create Valuable Content: Develop a quick guide, checklist, or e-book that offers immediate value to your audience. Promote Your Opt-In: Use your blog, social media, and email marketing to promote your opt-in and attract sign-ups. Upselling and Bundling Once the initial product is established, consider upselling or bundling additional products to provide comprehensive solutions to your audience's problems. Actionable Steps: Develop Complementary Products: Create additional products that complement your initial offering, such as workshops, e-books, or meal plans. Create Bundles: Package your products together to offer more value and increase the average order value. Promote Upsells: Use email marketing and sales pages to promote your upsells and bundles. Avoiding Overcomplication Tammy and I stress the importance of simplicity in the product creation process. New entrepreneurs should focus on smaller, manageable products that can be validated through audience feedback. Actionable Steps: Start Small: Begin with smaller products, such as e-books or workshops, that can be created quickly and easily. Validate Your Ideas: Use audience feedback to validate your product ideas before investing time and resources into larger projects. Iterate and Improve: Continuously improve your products based on customer feedback and market trends. Understanding Your Audience Knowing your audience is crucial when selling digital products. Tammy has found success with e-books and bundles, but emphasizes the need to nurture the audience over time. Actionable Steps: Build Relationships: Use email marketing, social media, and content marketing to build relationships with your audience. Provide Value: Continuously provide valuable content that addresses your audience's needs and pain points. Nurture Leads: Use nurturing email sequences to build trust and guide your audience through the sales funnel. Pricing Strategy Tammy discusses her pricing strategy, noting that digital products can be priced effectively to ensure profitability. For example, her ultimate bundle is priced at $89, with sales often bringing it down to $57. Actionable Steps: Research Competitors: Analyze the pricing strategies of your competitors to understand market trends. Test Pricing: Experiment with different pricing strategies to find the optimal price point for your products. Offer Discounts: Use sales and discounts to attract customers and increase conversions. Continuous Learning and Adaptation Building a sales funnel is an ongoing process. Once the initial setup is complete, entrepreneurs can learn from audience interactions and make necessary adjustments. Actionable Steps: Monitor Performance: Continuously monitor the performance of your sales funnel and make data-driven decisions. Learn from Feedback: Use customer feedback to identify areas for improvement and make necessary adjustments. Stay Updated: Keep up with industry trends and best practices to stay ahead of the competition. Conclusion This episode of the Blogger Genius Podcast provides valuable insights into the world of sales funnels for digital products. By focusing on audience needs, simplifying the product creation process, and continuously learning from customer interactions, entrepreneurs can build effective sales funnels that drive engagement and sales. In the latest episode of the Blogger Genius Podcast, I sit down with Greg Zakowicz, an expert marketer from Omnisend, to delve into all the cool things a blogger can do with email marketing. We explore its renewed significance in the digital landscape, especially for online entrepreneurs looking to build and nurture their audiences. The Importance of Email Marketing Email marketing has seen a resurgence as other channels like social media and SEO become increasingly saturated. Unlike these platforms, email allows bloggers to communicate directly with subscribers who have opted in, making it a powerful tool for building relationships and driving sales. Personalization: Tailor messages to specific segments of your audience. High Engagement: Subscribers are in a receptive mindset, leading to better engagement rates. Building a Quality Email List Greg emphasizes the importance of focusing on the quality of your email list rather than just the quantity. A high-quality list consists of engaged subscribers who are genuinely interested in your content. Strategies for Building a Quality Email List: Offer Valuable Incentives: Instead of generic giveaways, offer something that aligns with your audience's interests, such as early access to products or exclusive content. Create a Sense of Exclusivity: Make your subscribers feel special by offering them unique opportunities or experiences. Use Simple Opt-In Forms: Make it easy for visitors to subscribe by using straightforward and user-friendly forms. Treating Early Customers as VIPs I share my approach of treating our early MiloTree customers as VIPs, which helps in building a loyal community around our brand. Tips for Treating Customers as VIPs: Personal Connections: Respond promptly to emails and acknowledge customers by name. Exclusive Offers: Provide early access to new products or special discounts. Community Building: Foster a sense of belonging by engaging with your audience and encouraging them to share their experiences. Crafting a Welcome Series A well-crafted welcome series can set the tone for your relationship with new subscribers. Greg advises that the number of messages in your welcome series should depend on what you need to communicate. Elements of an Effective Welcome Series: Engaging First Email: The first email typically has the highest open rates, so make it count. Introduce yourself and your brand in a relatable manner. Storytelling Approach: Share your journey and what subscribers can expect from your emails. Relevant Content: Include links to popular blog posts or helpful resources that resonate with your audience. Utilizing Segmentation Segmentation is crucial for sending relevant messages to the right audience. Greg introduces the concept of segmentation within welcome emails, allowing bloggers to tailor follow-up messages based on subscriber interests. Segmentation Strategies: Tags During Sign-Up: Use tags to categorize subscribers based on their interests during the sign-up process. Preference Campaigns: Conduct campaigns to gather information about subscribers' preferences. Self-Segmentation: Allow subscribers to self-segment by clicking on options in emails, simplifying the process and empowering them to express their preferences. Simplicity is Key Both Jillian and Greg stress the importance of simplicity in email marketing. Overcomplicating processes can lead to inaction, so it's essential to keep things straightforward. Tips for Keeping It Simple: Concise Emails: Keep your emails short and to the point, with clear and engaging sections. Visual Elements: Use buttons or icons to guide readers and make your emails visually appealing. Actionable Steps: Focus on small, manageable steps that encourage subscribers to take action. Crafting Effective Subject Lines Subject lines play a crucial role in determining whether your emails get opened. Greg shares his approach to writing effective subject lines. Best Practices for Subject Lines: Character Limit: Aim for 21 to 40 characters to ensure visibility on mobile devices.   Relevance and Action-Oriented Language: Create subject lines that pique curiosity and provide a clear reason to open the email.   Testing and Feedback: Write multiple subject lines, including unconventional ones, to think outside the box and find what works best. Building Relationships with Subscribers Building genuine relationships with your subscribers is essential for long-term success. Understanding your audience's perspective can lead to more effective communication. Strategies for Building Relationships: Personalization: Tailor your messages to address the specific needs and interests of your subscribers. Engagement Tactics: Host exclusive online events or focus groups for email subscribers to foster a sense of community. Emotional Connection: Make subscribers feel seen and part of a larger community, addressing the loneliness many people feel today. Final Thoughts on Email Marketing Effective email marketing doesn't have to be complicated. By focusing on providing value, being human, and simplifying processes, businesses can achieve success in their email marketing efforts. Key Takeaways: Quality Over Quantity: Focus on building a high-quality email list with engaged subscribers. Personal Touch: Treat early customers as VIPs and foster a sense of community. Simplicity: Keep your emails concise and straightforward, with clear calls to action. Segmentation: Use segmentation to send relevant messages to the right audience. Engagement: Build genuine relationships with your subscribers by understanding their needs and interests. In today's episode of The Blogger Genius Podcast, I'm tackling blogger burnout. I share my key insights from talking to many of you about your experience with burnout and share my advice on how to rejuvenate both your passion and profitability. The Hamster Wheel of Content Creation Many bloggers find themselves trapped in a relentless cycle of content creation, SEO optimization, keyword research, and posting on social media. This constant push for pageviews, traffic and engagement can lead to a sense of disconnection from your audience and a lack of personal fulfillment. The need to constantly optimize for search engines can overshadow the original purpose of blogging, and the pressure to produce frequent, high-quality content can be overwhelming. Show Notes: MiloTreeLeads Beta MiloTreeCart Book a FREE 20-minute call with me MiloTree Pop-Up App Personality Quiz: What Digital Product Should I Create? Join My Blogger Genius Email List Become a Blogger Genius Facebook Group All Blogger Genius Podcast Episodes Subscribe to the Blogger Genius Podcast: iTunes YouTube Spotify Rediscovering Your "Why" This is why it's important to remember why you started blogging in the first place. Most bloggers begin with a desire to connect, share, and solve real problems for real people. Taking time to revisit your initial goals and passions can help you reconnect with your audience. Engage with your readers through comments, emails, and social media to understand their needs and interests. Shift your focus from pageviews to providing genuine value and solutions to your audience. Diversifying Income Streams While ad revenue and affiliate income can be lucrative, they are often subject to fluctuations in traffic and market changes. Diversifying your income streams can provide more stability and fulfillment. Introducing Digital Products and Services Many bloggers I talk to find a renewed excitement and purpose when they introduce selling digital products and services. This approach not only diversifies their income but also fosters deeper connections with their audiences. Digital products and services can provide a more consistent income stream, and creating products that solve specific problems for your audience can be highly rewarding. Plus, selling products and services allows for more personal interactions and relationship-building with your audience. Case Study: Nell Foster's Successful Pivot Nell Foster, a gardening blogger, experienced a significant drop in traffic but successfully pivoted by updating and selling her ebook and now is offering live workshops. She engaged with her audience and found new ways to monetize her expertise. Be open to pivoting your business model in response to changing circumstances, and regularly interact with your audience to understand their needs and preferences. Overcoming Self-Doubt and Embracing Growth Transitioning to selling products and services can be uncomfortable and may trigger feelings of self-doubt or imposter syndrome. So I recommend you begin with a simple product or service to test the waters and build confidence. Ask for feedback from trusted peers or early customers to improve and validate your offerings. View the process as an opportunity for personal and professional growth. The Power of Human Connection and Community There is something really important today about human connection and community. Starting a paid membership can be a smart move for bloggers as a way to make a steady income stream, and build a community around you and your brand. Plus, creating products that matter to you and your audience can lead to greater creative satisfaction. Transitioning to a Customer-Centric Business As things keep changing and AI becomes more prevalent, my recommendation is to transition from solely focusing on SEO to creating a vibrant, customer-centric business. This shift can lead to you rediscovering joy in your online business journey. Conduct surveys or interviews to identify the specific problems your audience faces, and develop digital products and services that address these pain points. Use email marketing, social media, and other channels to promote your offerings and connect with your audience. Embrace the Journey Diversifying your income streams by selling digital products and services can help overcome blogger burnout and lead to a more fulfilling and profitable blogging journey. By focusing on providing value, building connections, and embracing growth, you can create a sustainable and rewarding business. Remember why you started blogging and let that passion guide your decisions. Embrace new opportunities and be willing to pivot when necessary. Prioritize your audience's needs and build genuine connections. By following these insights and actionable advice, you can transform your online business and rediscover the joy and fulfillment that comes from serving your audience in a deeper way. In my latest episode of The Blogger Genius Podcast, I dive deep into the transformative strategy of using email tripwires to convert new email subscribers into paying customers swiftly. An email tripwire is a low-cost offer presented immediately after a user opts in for a freebie. This strategy leverages the momentum of the subscriber's initial "yes" to entice them into making a small purchase. The concept is simple yet powerful: capitalize on the subscriber's engagement and willingness to buy by offering a compelling product at a nominal price. Key Elements of an Effective Tripwire Immediacy: The offer should be presented right after the user opts in for the freebie. This timing is crucial as it taps into the subscriber's current state of engagement. Irresistibility: The tripwire must be perceived as a steal. It should offer significant value at a low cost, making it an easy decision for the subscriber. Relevance: The tripwire should be directly related to the original freebie. This ensures that the offer aligns with the subscriber's interests and needs. Implementing Tripwires: A Case Study from Catch My Party At Catch My Party, our sister site, we offer a variety of free printable party decorations. After users opt in to receive these free printables, they are presented with an upsell for additional items in the collection, such as personalized banners and invitations, for a nominal fee. This approach not only grows our email list but also generates revenue on the back end. Steps to Create a Successful Tripwire Identify a Popular Freebie: Start with a freebie that has high demand among your audience. Create a Related Low-Cost Offer: Develop a product that complements the freebie and offers additional value. Set Up the Automation: Automate the delivery of the tripwire offer immediately after the subscriber opts in using a tool like MiloTreeLeads Test and Refine: Monitor the performance of your tripwire and make adjustments as needed to improve conversion rates. Building a Product Ladder I like to talk about this strategy using the concept of a product ladder, where each step represents a product that increases in value and price as the customer progresses. This strategic approach helps in nurturing the customer relationship and guides them through a journey of increasing value. Crafting Your Product Ladder Identify a Significant Problem: Start by understanding a major pain point in your niche. Offer a Freebie: Provide a free resource that addresses a specific aspect of the problem. Introduce a Tripwire: Offer a low-cost product that provides a more comprehensive solution. Develop Higher-Ticket Offers: Create premium products such as personalized coaching sessions, memberships, or advanced courses. Example of a Product Ladder Freebie: A fitness coach offers a free PDF on morning exercises. Tripwire: A discounted online workout session. Mid-Tier Offer: A monthly subscription to a workout program. High-Ticket Offer: Personalized coaching sessions. Testing and Refining Your Strategy It is important to test and refine each step of the product ladder. Experiment with different offers and monitor customer responses to identify what works best. Use email to build the connective tissue between each step, nurturing relationships and guiding customers through their journey. Tips for Effective Testing Test different versions of your tripwire to see which one converts better. Gather feedback from your audience to understand their needs and preferences. Use data to track the performance of your offers and make data-driven decisions. Leveraging MiloTree for Seamless Integration Our new product under our MiloTree banner, MiloTreeLeads, allows users to offer unlimited freebies and lead magnets to grow their email list. This tool can seamlessly integrate tripwires and product ladders into your email marketing strategy, making it easier to nurture customer relationships and drive business growth. Experimentation, audience engagement, and agility are key to success in this journey. I invite everyone to explore the seamless integration of tripwires and product ladders using MiloTree's products. Today I delve into the world of Pinterest marketing. I'm Jillian Leslie, the host of The Blogger Genius Podcast and co-founder of MiloTreeCart, and today I'm excited to share the insights from my recent conversation with Kayla Watkins, a Pinterest marketing expert who specializes in helping bloggers amplify their organic traffic and monetize their content. The Ever-Evolving World of Pinterest In the digital age, staying ahead of the curve is crucial, and for niche bloggers, the recent Google updates have been a game-changer. As someone who's passionate about helping fellow bloggers diversify their income streams, I've seen many turn to selling digital products as a viable option. In fact, I offer a free 20-minute digital product strategy call to help develop a digital product strategy and share best practices for monetization success. During my chat with Kayla, we explore the current trends in Pinterest marketing and how to make the most of this visual platform. Kayla's expertise in crafting effective Pinterest strategies to increase pageviews is invaluable, especially for bloggers in the food, fashion, beauty, and lifestyle categories. Kayla Watkins MiloTree Pop-Up App Join My Blogger Genius Email List Become a Blogger Genius Facebook Group All Blogger Genius Podcast Episodes Tailwind Canva Subscribe to the Blogger Genius Podcast: iTunes YouTube Spotify The Art of Pinterest Optimization Pinterest is more than just a collection of beautiful images; it's a search engine marketing tool that requires a keen understanding of keyword research, content optimization, and pinning strategy. Kayla emphasizes the importance of finding the right keywords so you can create fresh pins to pin to your relevant boards, and updating existing blog content to stay relevant and maximize engagement. She also shares her approach to content scheduling and distribution, recommending tools like Tailwind to schedule pins and Canva for designing eye-catching Pinterest pins. Kayla's advice on pin design, Pinterest boards, pin titles and descriptions is clear: keep them concise, informative, and keyword-rich to resonate with Pinterest users. The Long Game: Building Sustainable Traffic from Pinterest One of the most striking points Kayla makes is the long-term nature of Pinterest traffic. Unlike the instant gratification of platforms like Instagram, Pinterest rewards patience and persistence. It's about trial and error, refining strategies over time, and understanding that significant results may take months to materialize. Kayla also touched on the future of Pinterest, predicting a continued focus on e-commerce. She encourages businesses to align their strategies with user behavior on the platform and to consider Pinterest ads to amplify viral content and evergreen posts. Leveraging Pinterest for Long-Term Stability Pinterest stands out as a social media platform that drives traffic to blogs or websites, offering a level of stability and control that's hard to find elsewhere. Kayla contrasted this with the fleeting nature of success on other social media platforms, highlighting Pinterest's role as a reliable partner in a business's long-term strategy as long as you understand the Pinterest algorithm. Repurposing Blog Content for Maximum Impact and Pageviews During our conversation, Kayla shares a personal success story about repurposing her Instagram content on Threads, the new social media platform by Instagram. By translating her most saved Instagram posts to fit the Threads format, she's seen a significant increase in engagement and email subscribers. This strategy has proven to be a game-changer, allowing her to insert her expertise into relevant conversations and grow her community. Key Takeaways and Next Steps My biggest takeaway from this enlightening discussion is the importance of a comprehensive Pinterest marketing strategy. It's essential to have a defined blog niche, solve problems for your audience, and incorporate relevant keywords into your content. Remember, Pinterest is a marathon, not a sprint, and it rewards those who are consistent and strategic in their content creation. If you're looking to diversify your income and drive traffic to your blog, consider leveraging tools like MiloTreeCart to sell digital products and create sales pages with ease. It's an excellent way to start monetizing your content and expanding your revenue streams. I hope you've found this blog post informative and inspiring. The key is to connect with your audience, address their problems, and build trust through personalized and niche-specific content. Gratitude Unleashed: A Quick, Calming Meditation for Thanksgiving

The Blogger Genius Podcast with Jillian Leslie

In today's podcast, I decided to record a new guided meditation for Thanksgiving. As the world feels like it's spinning faster and faster, I see the need in my own life to appreciate the small pleasures, reflect on my own blessings, and extend gratitude towards myself and others. I hope this meditation helps you do the same. I've posted the transcript below if you want to read it. Meditation Transcript Jillian Leslie (00:00:11) - Hello my friends, it is Jillian. For the past few years, during Thanksgiving week, I've been sharing a guided meditation on gratitude, and I thought this year it was even more important to do than in the past. Because this year, at least for me, things feel like they're spinning faster than ever. And sometimes I find it harder to make sense of the world. In fact, I've noticed my everyday stress feels a little more pointed, like I want to control things, and when I can't, I feel more disoriented. So I wanted to do this meditation to help myself. And hopefully you slow down a little bit so we can find our footing and focus on the small things that give us meaning, and usually the small stuff right in front of us that does this. Like the feeling of warmth on our skin or the scent of fresh flowers. A cup of hot coffee. That one definitely does it for me, or the smile of someone we love. Jillian Leslie (00:01:22) - And these simple pleasures are like rays of light in our lives, especially when things around us seem overwhelming. And I know I tend to sometimes miss them because they speak in a quieter voice. So with that being said, I wanted to help make space for that quieter voice. I'd love you to find a comfortable space to sit down and close your eyes. Or if you're walking, just listen a little more closely to my voice. And let's begin by focusing on our breath. So inhale deeply. Feel the air in your lungs and exhale slowly. So let's scan our bodies because they're usually some extra places where we hold tension. When I mention a place, see if you can relax it just a little bit more. So let's first focus on our eye sockets. Can you feel them relax just by focusing on them? And now let's move down to our jaws. We tend to hold a lot of tension in our jaws. Oh. Feel it. Relax as well. And now let's move down to our throats. Jillian Leslie (00:02:56) - And to our shoulders. And to our solar plexus, which is that spot right under your ribs. Like if you got punched in the stomach, that's where your solar plexus are. And just put a little softness there. Let's move down to our bellies. We tend to hold a lot of tension in our bellies. Let's move down to our hips. To our thighs. And to our calves. Focus on your feet. Feel the energy coming in through the top of your head and leave through the bottom of your feet. Feel yourself grounded to the earth. As we start to talk about gratitude, I want to invite you to open yourself up to receive guidance. Wisdom. Almost like you're an empty vessel. And let's start with the breath again. So breathe in. Breathe out. Please repeat these words in your head and see what shows up. Ready? I am grateful for. What materialized? What popped into your mind? Give it a second. Visualize it. Is it a certain person, a pet, a thing, an event? Experience? Maybe a circumstance? Who? Or whatever it is. Jillian Leslie (00:05:04) - Welcome them into your heart. Surround it or them with love. And give thanks for playing such an important role in your life. Then invite it or them to your Thanksgiving table. So let's do it again. Please repeat the words I am grateful for in your head. See what materializes. Was it another person, another pet or experience? Whatever it was? Welcome this person or thing into your heart. And invite it or them to also take a seat at your Thanksgiving table. And let's do it one more time. Please repeat these words. I am grateful for. And whatever pops into your mind, hold it and then put it in your heart. And invite them or it to also join you at your table. Think of a challenge in your life that you've overcome. Could be an illness, a circumstance, a relationship. Notice your bravery for getting to the other side and welcome that challenge into your heart. Thank the challenge. Thank your strength. This has helped transform you. Helped you evolve. So invite this experience to your table. Jillian Leslie (00:06:48) - Think of someone in your life who could use a little grace, a touch of kindness, a little bit of love and warmth right now. Who in your life is struggling and in your mind? Hold them tight. Send lots of love their way and invite them to your table. Are there other people who might need that little touch of grace? If so. Invite each one to your table and surround them with love. And now, as our final act of gratitude, please welcome yourself into your heart with all your strengths and all your weaknesses, your fears, your desires, your foibles, your best qualities, your worst qualities, the whole package of who you are without any judgment. Thank yourself for being uniquely you, for being on this path. Remember, nobody else is like you and thank yourself for hanging in there, even in the tough times. Thank yourself for showing up in whatever way you've been able to place your hand on your heart. Feel the life force inside you as you breathe in and out and in. And out. Jillian Leslie (00:08:34) - Feel how alive you are in this mysterious moment. Sit yourself at the head of your Thanksgiving table. Look around at all that you are grateful for and those that you love. And please take this in. So let's breathe together. Let's breathe in and out. Notice the abundance of people, experiences, challenges and notice the feeling of love. We all know life isn't always easy or fair. A lot of times it's messy and doesn't make any sense. And our job is to keep showing up through it all with grace, forgiveness, and compassion. For that, let's give thanks and let's celebrate this deep and beautiful mystery. We call life. When you're ready, wiggle your fingers and toes. Feel yourself coming back into your body. And when it feels comfortable. Open your eyes and notice the subtle shift that has taken place. I want to wish you and your family a very Happy Thanksgiving, and I hope it is filled with joy and lightness and love, and that you get to notice those special little moments that are right there in front of all of us, and that make life so beautiful. Jillian Leslie (00:10:18) - If you have a friend or a relative who you think could benefit from listening to this, please share it! And I will see you here again next week. In today's episode, I'm sharing how I stumbled into success offering a Black Friday sale and made $5k in 4 days and you can too! My On-The Fly Black Friday Sale That Paid Off Big-Time It all began when we decided to take a break from our usual Thanksgiving spent with family and instead headed to Las Vegas. Little did I know that this trip would turn out to be a turning point in my entrepreneurial journey. I woke up the day before Thanksgiving and started scrolling on my phone. I saw all these incredible Black Friday deals and discounts. I started to wonder if there was a way I could tap into this Black Friday craze and boost my own business. As a blogger and entrepreneur, I was always on the lookout for innovative ways to sell my products and services. This seemed like the perfect opportunity to do just that. My Black Friday Offer I decided to lean into the excitement of entrepreneurs growing their businesses in the New Year and offered a one-hour coaching session where I would also email them 5 action steps they could use in their business. I decided to charge $250 per session, a discount from my current $350 per hour coaching rate. I slapped together a landing page and buy button and started sending emails. Each day I'd send a new email that I wrote on the fly, and each day I got sales. I ended up making over $5k in just 4 days. This paid for our Vegas trip and all our Christmas presents that year. What surprised me most was how there was an income stream I didn't know was there. And all I had to do was tap into it. This unexpected success taught me a valuable lesson about the power of seizing opportunities and thinking outside the box. It showed me that sometimes, the most significant breakthroughs can come when we least expect them. Show Notes: MiloTreeCart Personality Quiz: What Digital Product Should I Create? Today, I'm excited to share with you an insightful conversation I had with Joyce Layman, a seasoned business coach. The interview is so rich in content I've decided to split it into two parts. The Power of GIFs in Exposure and Traffic Our conversation took an interesting turn when Joyce introduced the concept of using GIFs to increase visibility, discoverability, and traffic. For those unfamiliar, GIFs are short, looping animations that can be created on platforms like Giphy, which boasts over 700 million users. Joyce shared her own success story with GIFs, explaining how each one she creates includes a link back to her website. This strategy has led to increased website traffic and even direct outreach from people who discovered her through her GIFs. A Word About MiloTreeCart for Black Friday Selling Before we wrap up, I'd like to mention MiloTreeCart, the platform we built to help bloggers, online entrepreneurs, and coaches to sell digital products. Natasha felt that as a blogger, she should have a digital product to sell. Despite her limited time, Natasha quickly created an ebook by compiling her blog recipes and styling it using Canva. She kept it simple, with sixteen recipes and notes, and priced it at $9. The Power of Niche and Community Natasha promoted her ebook to her Facebook group, which boasts over 22,000 members and is highly engaged due to its niche focus on gluten-free sourdough. She believes that the group's engagement has contributed to its rapid growth. They discussed the importance of finding a niche and how it has contributed to Natasha's success. She shared her initial hesitation about narrowing down her focus to gluten-free baking, but ultimately found that it simplified her life and allowed her to become an expert in a specific area. The Ebook Success Initially skeptical, Natasha was pleasantly surprised when people started buying the ebook. She also tried selling the ebook on her website, but most of the sales came from her Facebook group. Exploring Other Platforms Natasha reached out to Jillian for advice on other platforms to sell her ebook. She had heard about Gumroad but was concerned about the percentage they would take from her sales. After discovering that MiloTreeCart didn't take a cut from sales, Natasha became interested in our lifetime membership offer. Investing in Your Audience Jillian believes in the concept of karma on the internet, where putting out good content leads to receiving good things in return. She wants to help my audience grow their businesses because it brings her happiness and contributes to the growth of her own business. Natasha's Experience with MilotreeCart Natasha shares her positive experience with MilotreeCart. She appreciates the templates and resources they offer for free, which have helped her make back more than she initially invested. She believes that investing in MilotreeCart is a great opportunity for those with an existing audience. Launching Her First Workshop Natasha's experience hosting her first paid workshop was a significant milestone in her journey. After the success of her ebook, she decided to expand her offerings and create workshops to provide more value to her audience. She put in effort to plan and deliver a high-quality workshop, and the results were impressive. Hosting her one-hour live workshop, she made over $400. The "B-minus Work" Concept Natasha was initially skeptical and nervous about setting up and delivering the workshop. However, she found comfort in my concept of "B-minus work," where it's okay to not strive for perfection but still deliver above-average content. This mindset relieved the pressure of having a perfect setup and allowed Natasha to use her phone and computer to create her workshops. Future Opportunities Natasha expresses her desire to host another workshop due to its success in terms of sales and positive feedback. She contemplates starting a membership program, inspired by another guest on the podcast who offered a membership for $18. The Importance of Experimentation Jillian emphasized the importance of experimentation and seeking feedback from her audience. She praised Natasha for her inspiring work and expressed her excitement at her progress and future goals. The Unexpected Success Natasha shares her excitement about the growth of her blog and her ability to invest in essential tools and courses. She mentions the unexpected success of digital products and her dreams of making a full-time income from blogging. In conclusion, Natasha's journey is a testament to the power of digital products, niche communities, and the importance of investing in your audience. Jillian hope her story inspires you to start your own product adventure. HToday, I'm excited to share some insights on a topic that's been gaining traction lately - hosting paid workshops to make extra cash. I'll also share our tool that simplifies the process of selling digital products, including workshops called MiloTreeCart. So, let's dive in! Show Notes: MiloTreeCart Personality Quiz: What Digital Product Should I Create? That's why I'm thrilled to introduce MiloTreeCart, a tool designed specifically for us non-techies. Whether you're selling downloads, workshops, memberships, or mini-courses, MiloTreeCart simplifies the process. It offers features such as sales pages, checkout pages, a sales dashboard, upsells, and support. For a limited time, you can get a lifetime deal of MiloTreeCart for $349 or three easy installments. Plus, there's a 30-day money-back guarantee. And here's the cherry on top - if you purchase before the end of August, you'll get a bonus one-hour free coaching call with me! The Benefits of Hosting a Paid Workshop Hosting a paid workshop has numerous benefits. It's easy to set up, provides a concrete win for participants, allows for authenticity and connection with your audience, helps test ideas and build authority, and creates an asset that can be resold. When selecting a topic for your workshop, make sure it's specific, aligned with purchasing triggers (like making money, saving money, saving time, happiness, pain relief, or social status), and resonates with your audience. Essential Tech Tools for a Successful Workshop To host a successful workshop, you'll need three essential tech tools: Zoom for hosting, MiloTreeCart for payment processing, and an email service provider for communication with attendees. Don't shy away from promoting your workshop through various channels, including email, social media, and personal outreach. As for the structure of the workshop, I recommend a one-hour session with an introduction, 3 main teaching points, and 15 minutes at the end for questions. Pricing Your Workshop: A Balancing Act Pricing workshops can be tricky as it depends on the niche and requires trial and error. Experiment with different pricing strategies, such as offering early bird prices and using coupon codes or discounts. Always consider the value participants will receive from attending the workshop. For instance, if your workshop teaches people how to save money and they could potentially save $100, price the workshop at $40, allowing participants to net $60 in savings. Real-Life Success Stories Hosting a paid workshop has become simpler with tools like Zoom, MiloTreeCart, ChatGPT, and email services. Let me share some real-life examples of successful workshops. A wreath-making workshop generated $1,800, gluten-free sourdough bread workshops earned close to $500 each, and a social media workshop made $1,100 by optimizing Instagram bios. These examples are simple and achievable, encouraging you to let go of perfectionism and embrace "B-minus work" that is both above average and doable. A Limited-Time Offer You Can't Miss Currently, MiloTreeCart is being sold for a limited-time lifetime deal of $349, which has allowed workshop hosts to make additional money. I assure you that future features will be grandfathered in for those who purchase now, but the pricing model will eventually transition to a subscription-based model. So, grab this opportunity while it lasts! Hosting paid workshops is a fantastic way to connect with your audience, share your knowledge, and generate income. With the right tools and strategies, anyone can do it. So, why not give it a try? Here's your host, Jillian Leslie. Jillian Leslie 0:11 Hello, my friends. Welcome back to the Blogger Genius Podcast. I'm so happy you are here. I am Jillian Leslie, your host, I started my online entrepreneurial journey in 2009, when my husband and I built our first website, catchmyparty.com. Jillian Leslie 0:29 And we've grown it into the largest party ideas site on the web, if you need party ideas, free printables, inspiration head over there. Jillian Leslie 0:38 Then in 2016, David and I built our MiloTree pop-up app that so many of you use to grow your social media followers on TikTok and Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, Pinterest, and your email list. And again, super optimized, super easy to use. That's really RMO. Jillian Leslie 1:00 And last year, we rolled out MiloTreeCart, which is the easiest way for you bloggers and creators to sell digital products to your audiences. Again, we built it for non-techies. How to Write an Ebook using ChatGPT Jillian Leslie 1:13 And I'm excited to do this solo episode today about an exercise my Head of Marketing, Clarita, and I decided to challenge ourselves with. We said, hey, there is this explosion happening called ChatGPT. If you have not played around with it, I highly recommend you pause this episode right now and sign up for an account. It ias amazing. Jillian Leslie 1:38 We challenged ourselves to write an ebook using ChatGPT on how to write an ebook using ChatGPT. I know crazy meta, but it was the perfect exercise to get us creating with ChatGPT as our partner because I sit here telling all of you, "Hey, start selling products to your audience start with an ebook. And yet that is difficult. Jillian Leslie 2:10 How do you come up with the idea? How do you write it, this is going to take hours and hours. But I want to let you know that we were able to go start to finish with a 20-page ebook in about three hours. And at the beginning, we knew nothing. So, I want to give you some insights into what it was like for us. Using ChatGPT Effectively Is About Understanding Prompts Jillian Leslie 2:32 When you think about ChatGPT, think about it this way. It is like an incredibly well skilled intern. And it doesn't think, it does. So, therefore it is all about the prompting to get ChatGPT to "do the tasks you ask it." And I didn't understand this at the beginning. Jillian Leslie 2:59 I would say like, "Hey, write me an ebook on how to write an ebook using ChatGPT." And I got a bunch of garbage. Therefore, I said, I need to step back and learn how to prompt it to be more useful. Jillian Leslie 3:16 What I have learned is, in the beginning, when you are sitting down to do a project, like writing your first ebook, you need to let it know who you are, what your objective is, and what format you want this to happen and where you want ChatGPT to structure its content around. Jillian Leslie 3:42 We knew what our topic was. And a lot of times that can be more difficult. But here's what I recommend you do as you're starting to think about creating your first ebook. First, tell ChatGPT who you are and what you're an expert in. Jillian Leslie 4:00 And after each prompt, you're feeding it information at the beginning before you are asking it to spit back stuff that you can use. After each time I prompt it I always write, "Do you understand?" And then it will come back at me and say, "Yes, here's what you're saying." Jillian Leslie 4:21 Most of the time it's right, but sometimes it's not right and I clarify what it is hearing me said. I might say, "Hey, I'm a food blogger. Here is my niche. This is who my audience is. My goal is to write an ebook. And right now, I need topics for this ebook that will sell." Then I say, "Do you understand?" And it will spit back information. Jillian Leslie 4:52 So, we prompted it with, "Hey, we're going to write an ebook using ChatGPT on how to help others write their ebooks using ChatGPT. Do you understand?" Again, I knew my topic. But let's say you know, I sit here on my podcast going, you got to solve problems for your audience, and you want to make it not just a nice to have, but a must have. How to Use ChatGPT to Come Up with Your Ebook Topic Jillian Leslie 5:19 And I talk about these six purchasing buckets, if you can sell a product that makes somebody money, save somebody money, save somebody time, move somebody toward happiness, move somebody away from pain, or raises someone's social status, people will typically buy. This is how you move from nice to have to must have. Jillian Leslie 5:43 So, what I would do, if I were trying to come up with an idea for a product, I would prompt ChatGPT. And say, "I'm looking for ideas based on my niche of an ebook I could write, and I want it to fall into one of these six categories," listing those categories, saying, do you understand? And it will say yes, I do. Jillian Leslie 6:09 And it might even start to give you ideas, then I might say, give me 20 digital product ebook ideas, I could write, using this information that I've already given it and see what I get. And the goal is to continue to refine what it is spitting back at you to go wait a second, maybe they're all for people who want to make money or something. Jillian Leslie 6:38 And that's not exactly what you're thinking about you don't like these ideas, your job is to continually give feedback back to ChatGPT. And say things like, no, I don't want ideas about this. I want ideas about X and maybe even give it an example. And then say, do you understand? Now Get ChatGPT to Outline Your Ebook Jillian Leslie 7:00 So, think of it as the best brainstorming partner ever. Then you look at these ideas, and you go, Ooh, I really like this one idea. Great. Now you're going to say, take this idea, and give me an outline for an ebook. And watch what it spits out. Jillian Leslie 7:24 And again, you might have to go back multiple times and say, I want to gear it toward men or gear it toward women, write me another outline. And lo and behold, it will and after each one go, "Do you understand?" Jillian Leslie 7:39 This is what we did. We talked about who the audience is, who the target audience is, and said, "Write us an outline of topics for how to write an ebook, using ChatGPT." And boom, we got a really good outline. Tell ChatGPT What Tone to Use and How to Write It Jillian Leslie 8:01 And then the next thing is, you want to prompt it. And this is something that I've just really started to do as I am digging into ChatGPT is tell it what tone, tell it what audience so you could say things like in a friendly and professional tone, write this ebook and you might do multiple categories like this. Jillian Leslie 8:25 This for an eighth grader, which is typically where I try to target people, here are some adjectives that you could put into ChatGPT and say write it in an "authoritative tone," or an "urgent and persuasive tone," or a "casual and conversational tone." Or you might say, "Make it humorous." Jillian Leslie 8:48 And after each time you are prompting it, write, "Do you understand?" Then you could ask it to do this task and see what you get and fine tune it from there. That has been incredibly helpful for me, as I'm working with ChatGPT. It's like you need to set up the parameters and the goal. Jillian Leslie 9:10 Now one thing for your ebook, in any ebook that you are writing, and you probably want to prompt ChatGPT with this as well. Your ebook, remember needs to solve a problem for your people. And again, one of these problems that fits into one of these six buckets. Ask ChatGPT for Action Steps to Solve the Problem for Your Customers Jillian Leslie 9:31 And the goal is to ask ChatGPT to make sure it's giving you action steps for your book so that you're not just talking in generalities. You're talking in specifics. Your audience your customer wants to get from point A to point B and the more direct you can get them to their destination, the more success you will have. Jillian Leslie 9:59 You don't want to have a lot of fluff, you want it to be action oriented. So, tell that to ChatGPT. In our ebook, we have, do this, and then do this and then do this. And here's how to write an ebook. Jillian Leslie 10:17 And as I said, it only took us a couple hours start to finish plus, we as part of MiloTreeCart, offer a Canva template where you can then just copy and paste your ebook into this template, and boom, you've got a professional looking ebook. Ask ChatGPT to Flesh Out the Items in Your Outline Jillian Leslie 10:33 Are you done with ChatGPT at this point? No, because remember, you've got ideas for outline steps. And again, go back and make sure that these are actionable steps. But then take each step, this is what we did, we took each step and we said, write, in more detailed explanation of this. Jillian Leslie 10:57 And we took the piece from the outline, put it into ChatGPT, and had it spew out information for us. So, we're working in a Google Doc, at the same time, we're using ChatGPT as our assistant, it was not just a copy paste. Jillian Leslie 11:13 What we did was we then ended up with a rough draft, going through these topics, and then seeing how ChatGPT spelled them out for us. And then this is where it becomes this partnership. It was about us going through and massaging the information, making sure that it made sense for our audience. Make the Text Your Own Jillian Leslie 11:35 Again, you are a big component in the writing of your ebook, it suggests that you get this enormous leg up. And it helps structure your thinking, it helps give you ideas that you would never have thought of. And it's like riding on steroids. Now Set Up Your Ebook in MiloTreeCart Jillian Leslie 11:54 Let me continue my story here is how I set my ebook up to sell it. I went to my MiloTreeCart dashboard, and I clicked the button digital download, because that's what I was going to be selling. I added the name of our ebook, which is called, The Beginner's Guide to Making Money with Ebooks Using ChatGPT. Jillian Leslie 12:16 And by the way, guess what I use to come up with that title, I prompted ChatGPT and said, "Give me 10 titles for this ebook about writing ebooks." And that was the one that I liked the best. I put a price of $27 pressed save, I uploaded the PDF into my MiloTreeCart dashboard, and boom, I'm ready to start selling. Jillian Leslie 12:47 One of the great things about MiloTreeCart In addition to handling all the payments and the backend stuff is when my customer purchases my ebook MiloTreeCart handles the delivery of that ebook, so I don't have to do anything, they automatically email a link to the PDF to my customer, they also offer it on their thank you page. Jillian Leslie 13:09 It doesn't matter what kind of file size you have on MiloTreeCart, what kind of file type, you get unlimited products to sell. And it's all handled without me having to touch it. Also, MiloTreeCart gives me free unlimited fill in the blank sales pages that I can get up in less than 10 minutes, so I don't have to worry about the design. Jillian Leslie 13:35 I've got prompts in terms of what to write. And all of a sudden, I've got a great looking sales page that looks fantastic on mobile, where I can go out and start selling. Digital Products You Can Sell with MiloTreeCart Jillian Leslie 13:46 And plus, one of the other benefits with MiloTreeCart is you can sell memberships, you can sell subscriptions, you can sell coaching, you can get just regular payment links, anything that you would sell digitally, you can do with MiloTreeCart and there's no learning curve. Jillian Leslie 14:05 I seriously believe that if you can get good at working with AI figuring out how to prompt it, the world will open up to you and you can start creating products and selling things with ease. Jillian Leslie 14:21 As I mentioned, I am selling my ebook however, because you are listening to this episode if you want to get it for free. Today I'm SO excited to be here with Jillian Leslie because holy cow, she is an absolutely INSPIRING serial business woman that I feel like has had her toes dipped in absolutely everything at some point-- which I'll have her share about in a bit because she could tell stories for DAYS.  But the main reason I wanted to bring Jillian on is because she is an absolutely GENIUS when it comes to email marketing and converting visitors into email subscribers-- I mean, she + her business-partner husband even has a couple of wildly popular apps they've developed that are used by business owners all over the world to grow their email lists. So trust me-- today's episode is going to be good! In today's episode, Jillian and I chat about: How Jillian got to where she is today (Her background is incredible!) How email marketing fits into the grand scheme of things with running an online business I know you've got multiple email lists from your different businesses-- is there one strategy that you've found to work the best at growing those lists? There's a lot of mixed feelings around pop-ups out there-- but Jillian swears by them! She shares a bit more about why she is a fan + how they've impacted her list growth Are there specific types of freebies that convert best with popups (a free video training, lead magnet, resource library, etc.)? What about the language/copy used in a popup? How do you know if a popup is working effectively? Is there a certain conversion rate number you like to see?
