THE CLASS: HOW MOVE TO HEAL YOUR BODY, MIND AND SPIRIT with SOEURAYA WILSON Back in 2020 I needed a refuge. There was nowhere to go with the despair I was feeling amidst what felt like my world crumbling around me and I was feeling weaker in mind, body and spirit by the day. Everything was quite existential and I was desperate for some sense of routine, a practice or any new suggestion to help stop the awful feeling of coming out of my own skin. The Class found me or I found it. Who knows. Either way. This movement practice, somatic journey, spiritual experience, therapy session and butt kicking workout rolled into one that Taryn Toomey created provides a sanctuary for your soul and a bikini ready body. Today's conversation is with one of my all time favorite teachers of “The Class” and personal weekly go to for inspiration and motivation, Soeuraya Wilson. She is here to talk about the power of movement to heal, how to become a witness to yourself to better cope with fears and negative thought patterns. We touch on the complexities of mother-daughter relationships and stress the importance of showing up authentically in today's society and having the courage to embrace vulnerability Your Main Takeaways: 1. Finding Inner Strength: Discover the significance of movement, mindfulness, and embracing one's true self in overcoming past experiences and navigating through challenging moments. 2 Embracing Emotional Well-being: Explore the importance of allowing oneself to feel and express emotions, rather than suppressing them, as we reflect on the significance of emotional expression and the impact on personal growth. 3.The Importance of Inhabiting the Body: The Class offers a space and place to acknowledge the body as a wisdom center and emphasizes the profound impact physical practices have on spirit and mind. Packed with practical tools and suggestions to deepen your relationship to your body's wisdom, reset your nervous system and befriend yourself. Movement is medicine. From Dr. Shah: I have been a retired primary care physician, vegan ( plant-based ) for 22 + years. I became a self-taught Vegan, inspired by seeing a lion on an African Safari, realizing that a simple choiceless life in a jungle is the healthiest way to live life Vs. the so-called civilized life offering a multitude of choices but in exchange bringing us hordes of diseases - physical and mental. Also, being on a spiritual path, and meditating regularly, made me realize the atrocities committed on innocent animals, the worst of them being artificial insemination, which if looked at from a spiritual angle is nothing but rape of the cows. Further research made me realize that animals are the main source of cholesterol in our diet, making a vegan diet the best approach before going onto any medications. I applied this in my professional life and thousands of patients benefited from a Vegan lifestyle, by reversing their high cholesterol levels, diabetes, and Obesity. Also, being environmentally conscious, studying "Rule of 10" made me realize that the animal industry is a major culprit in deforestation and global warming. I have been a President and now a Medical Director of a vegan society - World Vegan Vision. I am not just a physician proposing a Plant-based diet, I have been a patient too. I had a major heart attack within six months after I went on a plant-based diet. I survived the heart attack and it made me an even stronger believer in a plant-based diet. I increased my exercise significantly and ran my first marathon on the anniversary of my heart attack. After that, I ran five more marathons, lost 23 lbs, and never looked back on the heart disease again. Now, nearly 24 years after my heart attack, I can say that I have defeated my heart disease. A lot of South Asians are very prone to heart disease and diabetes. This can be a great inspiration for them." This episode is brought to you by Rupa Health, ButcherBox, and Pique Life. Our minds are incredibly powerful, and we know our mindset and thoughts can influence our health, manifestations, and actions. But when we face challenges or engage in repetitive patterns, it's difficult to know the steps we need to take to liberate ourselves from negative thoughts or tendencies. Today on The Dhru Purohit Podcast, Dhru sits down with biologist and world-renowned author Bruce Lipton. Bruce shows us how our minds are like computers and discusses how most of our programming comes from watching our environment before the age of seven and can often include self-sabotaging behaviors. Bruce shares tips on how we can become aware of our dysfunctional programming and empower ourselves to manifest the life we intentionally want to create. He also breaks down the difference between the subconscious mind, which allows us to function on autopilot, and the conscious mind, which involves thinking with intention and purpose. Bruce deep dives into the science behind action versus reaction, how it impacts our health, and the steps we can take to prevent illness and promote longevity. Bruce Lipton is a stem cell biologist and best selling author. His research challenges the traditional view that genes determine our biological destiny and suggests that our perceptions and experiences play a crucial role in shaping our health. In this episode, Dhru and Bruce dive into (audio version / Apple Subscriber version):95% of our life comes from programming outside of our own (3:20 / 3:20)Where we get our programming from and how it is similar to being under hypnosis (10:00 /10:00) Why 60% of the programs we have downloaded for our mind are dysfunctional (20:06 / 17:35)How we actively created our problems and what we can do to fix them (21:56 / 18:49)How we spend most of our time reacting rather than intentionally acting (34:12 / 29:00)90% of illness is from stress (37:41 / 32:00)Function of the mind: Making coherence between beliefs and reality (56:04 / 51:22)Belief in the inevitability of aging (1:00:20 / 55:53) The programming that Bruce came into and how he deprogrammed his mind (1:09:29 / 1:05:11) Three avenues to reprogram your mind (1:16:22 /1:11:56)Also mentioned in this episode:Calm AppDivision of Perceptual StudiesAccess more than 3,000 specialty lab tests with Rupa Health. Jason was born in South Korea in 1970, only 18 years after the end of the Korean War. When Jason was 5 years old, his parents moved their family to the United States. Starting a new life with Jason and his two younger sisters in a foreign country and culture was a struggle for their whole family and Jason's father developed alcoholism.Throughout Jason's childhood, he experienced many of the challenges immigrants face when coming to the U.S., including racism, anger and separation. These experiences were both traumatic and deep seated. Everything was chaotic and unpredictable. During this time, Jason discovered that he could control one thing— his grades. Jason learned quickly that feeling in control and achieving was a way to get recognition and the praise of parents, teachers, and peers alike. He had no control over his environment, as his dad's alcoholism dictated that the family move every 2-4 years. Jason never felt at home anywhere. He developed anxiety and depression at an early age which was undiagnosed until he was twenty-three. Jason developed a dependence on alcohol, endured broken relationships that have been devastating, experienced the painful death of loved ones, and has survived a traumatic automobile accident. He has explored many methods of healing including physical, mental/psychological, and spiritual. He attributes his work in the Twelve Steps of AA, embracing spirituality—especially in Eckhart Tolle's teachings and the teachings of ACIM—A Course in Miracles—to his continuing recovery of body, mind, and spirit. Jason helps others by sharing his journey and by being a supportive friend to others who struggle. He currently lives on the East Coast of the US with his cats Jiji and Muta.
