Our next guest, Melissa Winter, has a career that's so remarkable and, yet, hard to pin down. In fact, that's the point. Melissa has been the Chief of Staff to former First Lady Michelle Obama for the past seven years. She first joined Mrs. Obama's staff 17 years ago when President Obama was a Senator in Chicago, and would go on to serve all eight years of the Obama White House administration as Deputy Chief of Staff. Since 2017, Melissa has moved away from public service and started a new chapter working with The Obama Organization, Higher Ground Productions, and When We All Vote. She is the ultimate get. it. done. professional, who ensures everything in the background operates smoothly so her principal can meet her goals. But Melissa never expected to be here and on this episode of Work Friends she tells us all about it, including:the very unexpected internship that brought her to D.C.why she didn't want to work for Mrs. Obama, and what changed her mind.what a Chief of Staff job actually looks like.the life-changing experience of entering, and exiting, the White House.and the vital work she's focused on at When We All Vote.Work Friends is produced by ARGENT, a women's clothing label on a mission to redefine workwear and drive forward women's progress. Let's talk about the latest Netflix movie “Leave the World Behind”. As usual this is one of many movies that use predictive programming to tell you about the potential chaos ahead. It doesn't surprise me that the movie was produced by the Obama owned “Higher Ground Productions”. The amount of symbolism and knowledge in this movie is ridiculous!! Hope you guys enjoy this little fly by! As always, don't forget to spread the fire!!This show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/4656375/advertisement

The origin and payload of the rocket part were unclear, and the impact could help astronomers determine what it was. In October 2023, NASA launched three sounding rockets during the annular solar eclipse to study how the sudden drop in sunlight affects the upper atmosphere, especially the ionosphere. The ionosphere is where solar radiation ionizes gases, creating a sea of high-flying ions and electrons that can affect satellite communications5. The rockets measured the temperature, density, electric field, and magnetic field of the ionosphere before, during, and after the eclipse. The mission, called APEP, was named after the Egyptian deity of darkness. The same rockets will be relaunched in 2024 for the total solar eclipse. These stories are written because people are seeing things hitting the moon. We play Reese Fake Moon Landing The American flag planted on the moon looks like it is flapping in the wind, which is impossible in the vacuum of space. The shadows and lighting in the photos and videos are inconsistent, suggesting that they were taken in a studio with artificial sources. There are no stars visible in the sky, which is odd for a place with no atmosphere. The lunar module and the astronauts left no blast crater or dust trail when they landed or took off, indicating that they were not actually there. The technology and equipment used by the astronauts were too primitive or unreliable to survive the harsh conditions of space and the moon (looks fake). The radiation from the Van Allen belts and the sun would have killed or harmed the astronauts, unless they were protected by heavy shielding that was not present in the spacecraft. The moon rocks brought back by the astronauts are identical to some rocks found on Earth and petrified wood, implying that they were not from the moon. Obama's latest movie on Netflix about a terror attack is Leave the World Behind The movie was executive produced by Barack and Michelle Obama through their Higher Ground Productions company, which has a multi-year deal with Netflix. Barack Obama also gave extensive notes to the director, based on his presidential experience and his love for movies, to make the film more realistic and empathetic. The movie is a psychological thriller that explores themes such as race, class, preppers, dumbed down tech heads and human nature in the face of a disaster. Our view, this is WEF predictive programing. What is crazy, you see Obama shirt saying obey next to another characters shirt NASA. But what is wild is USA Today whitewashed the shirt Obey in a news article. Biblical Cosmology Michael Heiser is a biblical scholar, author, and semitic languages expert who has studied and written about various aspects of biblical cosmology, such as the divine council, the sons of God, the nephilim, the watchers, the angelic rebellion, the cosmic geography, the unseen realm, etc. He has published several books and articles on these topics, such as The Unseen Realm, Reversing Hermon, Angels, Demons, and The Bible Unfiltered. We cover his presentation of what the Bible says about God's Creation. Now Heiser does not believe God's word on Biblical Cosmology is literal. He attained an MA in Ancient History from the University of Pennsylvania, and an MA and PhD in the Hebrew Bible and Semitic Languages from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where he minored in Classical studies.

Today we are talking with the very talented Margaret Brown about her latest documentary, Descendant. On July 9, 1860, more than 100 captive Africans were brought to the shores of Mobile, Alabama, on a ship named the Clotilda, under cover of darkness. The international slave trade had been made illegal in the US in 1808, but human trafficker Timothy Meaher made a bet that he could get around the law with his ship. Today, the residents of Africatown, just north of Mobile, count the Clotilda survivors among their ancestors. The documentary Descendant, brings their stories to light as they grapple with a growing spotlight on their community following the discovery of the sunken Clotilda. The film shows how events that unfolded more than a century ago continue to have lasting repercussions several generations later.Brown produced the film alongside Kyle Martin and Essie Chambers for Participant and Take One Five Entertainment. The film premiered at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival, where it was picked up by Higher Ground Productions and Netflix for theatrical and streaming distribution. The film was shortlisted for the 2023 Academy Awards, and you can watch it now on NETFLIX. The film currently has a perfect 100% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes. Descendant was released to select theaters and on Netflix on October 21, 2022.Descendant Trailer: YouTubeDescendant WebsiteYou can also keep up with Africatown via the Clotilda Descendants Association. Frederick Douglas was the “prose poet of America's (and perhaps a universal) body politic. He searched for the human soul, envisioned through slavery and freedom in all their meanings. There had been no other voice quite like Douglass's.” Join me and Professor David Blight as we discuss his Pulitzer Prize winning biography, Frederick Douglass, Prophet of Freedom. The lessons Douglass taught about freedom, dignity, and justice nearly 150 years ago are as important and relevant today as they were then. Guest David W. Blight, Sterling Professor of American History at Yale University David W. Blight is a teacher, scholar and public historian. At Yale University he is Sterling Professor of History, joining that faculty in January, 2003. As of June, 2004, he is Director, succeeding David Brion Davis, of the Gilder Lehrman Center for the Study of Slavery, Resistance, and Abolition. In his capacity as director of the Gilder Lehrman Center at Yale, Blight organizes conferences, working groups, lectures, the administering of the annual Frederick Douglass Book Prize, and many public outreach programs regarding the history of slavery and its abolition. He previously taught at Amherst College for thirteen years. In 2013-14 he was the William Pitt Professor of American History at Cambridge University, UK, and in 2010-11, Blight was the Rogers Distinguished Fellow in 19th-Century American History at the Huntington Library, San Marino, CA. During the 2006-07 academic year he was a fellow at the Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Center for Writers and Scholars, New York Public Library. In October of 2018, Simon and Schuster published his new biography of Frederick Douglass, entitled, Frederick Douglass: Prophet of Freedom, which garnered nine book awards, including the Pulitzer Prize, the Francis Parkman Prize, the Bancroft Prize, and the Gilder Lehrman Lincoln Prize. The Douglass book has been optioned by Higher Ground Productions and Netflix for a projected feature film. Blight works in many capacities in the world of public history, including on boards of museums and historical societies, and as a member of a small team of advisors to the 9/11 Memorial and Museum team of curators. For that institution he wrote the recently published essay, “Will It Rise: September 11 in American Memory.” In 2012, Blight was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and delivered an induction address, “The Pleasure and Pain of History.” In 2018, Blight was appointed by the Georgia Historical Society as a Vincent J. Dooley Distinguished Teaching Fellow, which recognizes national leaders in the field of history as both writers and educators whose research has enhanced or changed the way the public understands the past. Blight's newest books include annotated editions, with introductory essay, of Frederick Douglass's second autobiography, My Bondage and My Freedom (Yale Univ. Press, 2013), Robert Penn Warren's Who Speaks for the Negro, (Yale Univ. Press, 2014), and the monograph, American Oracle: The Civil War in the Civil Rights Era (Harvard University Press, published August 2011), which received the 2012 Anisfield-Wolf Award for best book in non-fiction on racism and human diversity. American Oracle is an intellectual history of Civil War memory, rooted in the work of Robert Penn Warren, Bruce Catton, Edmund Wilson, and James Baldwin. Blight is also the author of A Slave No More: Two Men Who Escaped to Freedom, Including their Narratives of Emancipation, (Harcourt, 2007, paperback in 2009). This book combines two newly discovered slave narratives in a volume that recovers the lives of their authors, John Washington and Wallace Turnage, as well as provides an incisive history of the story of emancipation. In June, 2004, the New York Times ran a front page story about the discovery and significance of these two rare slave narratives.

Full episode notes are at https://Patreon.com/theLFShowCrip Camp is a Peabody Award-winning documentary from Netflix and Higher Ground Productions that tells the story of Camp Jened, a summer camp in the 1960s where disabled youth could be themselves. The film follows several former campers who went on to be leaders of the Disability Rights Movement. Laura speaks with the directors and producers of Crip Camp about how they are using the film to advance the next step in the revolution: Disability Justice, a movement that centers the leadership of disabled queer, trans, Black, Indigenous, and people of color. If the inclusive culture of Camp Jened could help transform American society in the second half of the 20th century, what could a truly intersectional Disability Justice Movement change for us all today? Plus thoughts from Laura on interdependence. Music Spotlight: “Badass and Blind” the title track of Raul Midon's album released on Mack Avenue Records. While mainstream media or money media keeps you in a bubble, we're committed to popping that bubble by continuing to bring you radical, intersectional media! Can we depend on you to chip in? This week we hit both ends of the spectrum. First an American new show for kids, that grownups will love too, Next, a Brazilian comedy that is most definitely for adults only! Waffles and Mochi - NETFLIXFrom Barack and Michelle Obama's production company, Higher Ground Productions, part of the massive deal between the Obamas and Netflix comes Waffles and Mochi. Create by Erika Thormahlen and Jeremy Konner (Drunk History)It's a sweet journey where two best friends (Michelle Zamora and Piotr Michael) from the Land of Frozen Food travel to the city with a dream of being chefs. After hitching a ride with a food truck, discovering the world of fresh food at a supermarket owned by "Mrs. O" (Michelle Obama. They travel in a magic shopping cart learning about different foods (and lots) more with guests like Common and Jack Black and world-class chefs from around the world. And then there's the music! Our favorite so far is "I'm a Fruit" by Sia.Waffles and Mochi is a show for everybody. Watch it with your kids. Watch it with your grandkids. Watch it alone. Def watch it when you're stoned! (Elaine made a bad rhyme)Hard (HBO MAX)Hard is a fun, sexy Brazilian dramedy currently on HBO MAX. We couldn't even find an English subtitled trailer, but trust us, it's subtitled on HBO MAX. Easy 30 minute episodes; it kind of reminds us of Weeds, if the weed was porn. Check it out, don't think too hard about the donkey, and definitely don't Google the Brazilian Donkey show. Elaine did, and she nearly went blind. Hard stars Natália Lage, Julio Machado (as the most loveable porn star), Denise Del Vecchio, Fernando Alves Pinto, and Nathália Falcão.Wanna talk TV and movies with us? Join our Facebook Group!!

There's been plenty of buzz about American Factory, the Netflix documentary that provides an incredible fly-on-the-wall look as Chinese glass manufacturer Fuyao takes over an abandoned General Motors plant near Dayton, Ohio. American Factory nabbed the U.S. Documentary Directing prize at the Sundance Film Festival and is even being backed by Higher Ground Productions, the production company run by Barack and Michelle Obama. But the folks behind American Factory aren't just after prizes and press. They also want the film to open up a conversation in communities across the country about the future of work and other issues presented in the film. On this episode, Scott Paul talks to Melinda Arons, senior vice president of social impact at Participant Media, to learn more about the upcoming American Factory tour,
Recently, I've had a lot of people send me emails. They're asking about celebrities and trademarks. Why? Well, Tom Brady filed for something called TOM TERRIFIC, although I think that nobody calls him that. And, recently, LeBron James filed for TACO TUESDAY in marketing, advertising and podcast services. Of course, the Obamas have their production company called HIGHER GROUND Productions and they're actually fighting to get somebody else's trademark canceled in order to register their particular trademark. Frankly, all of this is really typical. A lot of people who have written me emails are very concerned about these particular phrases coming off of the public domain. Well, yes, but that's the point of trademark law. We pluck these phrases from out of the public domain and well for very specific uses. There's a specific reason for the use of these phrases and the use of, well, TOM TERRIFIC, even though I don't think he will get that - or TACO TUESDAY. TACO TUESDAY for marketing and advertising services or a fight between a former president and another enterprise company for the phrase , HIGHER GROUND: none of that phases me. All of that sounds like Wednesday. That's really the essence of a trademark law practice: we're plucking phrases out of the public domain for a very specific use and only for a very specific use; one that is defined in the trademark registration and then one that can be argued over and can be fought over and may be blocked. Just because of celebrity is doing it doesn't necessarily mean that there's any limitation on language because that celebrity doesn't have superior rights to anybody else who is not a celebrity. This is why I encourage all of my clients from the very beginning to do a thorough search of trademarks to understand that trademark use and trademark registration go hand in hand and to understand that in order to maintain your registration, what that use needs to look like. Therefore, all of your rights, if you're not a celebrity, are exactly equal to those celebrities who are filing. And don't worry, Tom Brady's not going to get that trademark. His rights are inferior to some others. I'm Anthony Verna, Managing Partner of Verna Law, P.C. where we focus on intellectual property, patent, trademark, copyright, trade dress, domain names and advertising law. Thanks very much for listening. Anthony Verna Video Blog 14: Celebrities with Trademarks do not Have Superior Rights than You
