In 1662 he was put out of his position after which he joined a Baptist church in Pentre, Wales, and became their pastor. Thomas' eldest son was named Caleb. He succeeded his father as pastor and remained there until his death. One of Caleb's sons was Hugh, the subject of our study. He was born in 1713 and given an excellent education under the care of a nearby dissenting minister. Advocacy group Global Citizen will convene political, philanthropic, business and cultural leaders for a thought leadership conference in New York to tackle extreme poverty more quickly. The group announced that Global Citizen NOW will be a two-day conference beginning April 27, co-chaired by Ursula von der Leyen, president of the European Commission, as well as leaders of Barbados and Ghana, along with Coldplay's Chris Martin and Tony winner and “Wolverine” star Hugh Jackman. Executives from Verizon, Cisco, Citi, and Procter & Gamble will join philanthropic leaders from Ford, Open Society, PepsiCo and Rockefeller foundations. “We're bringing together this extraordinary group of amazing leaders, and everything is focused on action taking, and on impact,” said Hugh Evans, Global Citizen CEO. “We're not going to host a single panel, a single session, unless there's an action to be taken out of it.” The conference plans to create collaboration between various sectors to spur “urgent action” to end extreme poverty. According to a Nature Energy report published in February, the energy crisis triggered by Russia's invasion of Ukraine could push 141 million people globally into extreme poverty because of increased costs for fuel and the higher prices for goods and services. That would be on top of the 100 million people who COVID-19 returned to extreme poverty that the inaugural Global Citizen NOW tried to help last year. “We see an opportunity to disrupt the model of global forums where world leaders get in a closed room and have private conversations that affect our planet and the next generation,” Evans said in a statement. “Money and solutions are on the table but aren't deployed. In August 2012, GPP launched the annual Global Citizen Festival. At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic Global Citizen joined forces with the European Union to help finance COVAX which buy vaccines for countries who cannot afford them.The sharing of COVID vaccines is only part of Global Citizen's plans for the immediate and long-term future. In their 2021  white paper called “A Recovery Plan for the World – A Campaign to end COVID-19  for all and Kickstart the Global Recovery” Global Citizen sets out their five pillars of action for 2021 and beyond which are:Ending the COVID-19 pandemicStopping the hunger crisisResume learning for all childrenProtecting the planet and Promoting justice and equity for allGlobal citizen announced that for their part, Prince Harry and Meghan will join the 24-hour global broadcast event in New York City's Central Park, to continue their urgent work with other world leaders in the pursuit of global vaccine equity so as to end the COVID-19 pandemic for everyone, everywhere and,  hoping that the G7 countries and the European Union will commit to share at least 1 billion COVID-19 vaccine doses as well as calling on Pfizer, BioNTech, and Moderna to share their mRNA vaccine technology with the World Health Organization.Global Citizen founder Hugh Evans tweeted “We are honored that Prince Harry and Meghan, are coming to #GlobalCitizenLive in Central Park event." Hugh Evans is an Australian humanitarian, co-founder of both The Oaktree Foundation and Global Citizen, a Global Poverty Project.  At age 14, Evans spent the night in a Manila slum. The harsh realities of his hosts’ lives motivated Evans to challenge the status quo of extreme poverty. Following a trip to South Africa in 2002 as World Vision's inaugural Youth Ambassador, Evans worked on the Make Poverty History campaign and helped stage the Make Poverty History Concert (fronted by Pearl Jam and Bono). Hugh Evans was the youngest person ever to be named Australian of the Year and now head of  'The Oaktree Foundation' and 'The Global Poverty Project,' a major charity to end the suffering caused by poverty which includes the Global Citizen initiatives. Focused on ending global poverty by moving the masses with music and action, Evans left Down Under to set the stage for a world devoid of unnecessary suffering caused by preventable inequality, indigence, hunger and disease.
