We are repeating this episode because knowing what you want is the core of getting your mindset in the right place for success. When I was working my corporate job, I kept having this feeling that I wasn't supposed to be there. That I wasn't truly living the life I wanted or living my purpose. The moment I decided that I wanted to leave corporate to start my own business, I got excited and the desire to take action made it real. I was able to take steps to leave my corporate job and start my own business. The last few years have been a journey of a lot of pivoting and finally figuring out where I need to be, but what I WANTED kept me grounded and going. So start with the question, what do you WANT? Sit with it. And then let the desire fuel you to take the next steps. I would love to hear what you WANT! I have lots of opportunities coming up to serve you and I would love to see how I can help you. Take a listen to the episode for more insights and don't hesitate to reach out! Hello, you fabulous bastards and welcome to episode 289 of BTK. On this very episode, Luke and I will be talking all about the Cat III sensation, The Untold Story. Unlike many of the films I choose, this was not some old film I've loved for years. Rather, this was a movie I WANTED to see for years, and only recently (thanks to the new Unearthed Films re-release) got to check it out. Its a strange and brilliant little film, and speaking of "strange" an "brilliant", hopefully Luke likes it as much as I did. Made a big decision recently: I ended my mentor/mentee relationship with Cody Boom Boom. It was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. He's helped me in SO many more ways than just business. All aspects of my life have improved from working with him and you can't put a dollar amount of that experience. He didn't just make me a better coach... He made me a better human being. He helped me triple my income, build confidence in my ability, connect with other human beings, see myself for what was REALLY there and not what I WANTED to see. There's so much to unpack, so I did a podcast on it. Check it out.

Back in the mid-1970s, a Prog group came out of Harrisonburg, Virginia of all places. It was not a YES or Genesis or ELP knockoff. It had its own very unique sound, one that blended free-form jazz along with classical and some other sounds that were hard to pigeon-hole. The band was Happy the Man [...] The post Prog-Rock Veteran FRANK WYATT On His New Album “Zeitgeist”: “As The Title Says, I Wanted to Present Something That Represents the Feelings and Emotions of Today” appeared first on Sonic Perspectives.
Do you dream of taking an amazing trip? Or closing up shop to write a novel. Maybe you’ve always wanted to go off grid. But what stops you is the fear you’ll miss out, or your business won’t survive, your boss won’t understand, all the momentum that you’ve built will go away. I get it. When I was 19 and in my first business, the leader said, “You have to put everything on hold if you’re committed to your success here.” AND I believed him. Of course I believed him. I WANTED to succeed so bad. I almost didn’t go on a cruise with my family, which was one of my favorite all time vacations. All because I bought into some lie that you have to sacrifice everything you want to do, in order to get what you want. Thank goodness I know better now. Not only do I know better but I get to also coach my clients to trust when it comes to doing what they want. When you listen to this interview with Paulie, you’ll hear how she’s getting ready to go on a 2 month long trip and everything is working out. And you’ll hear in a future interview how there was so many acting opportunities that showed up as soon as she returned. Listen to this interview to build your trust muscle about being able to do it all. In my last two Carfagno Cleaning updates, I shared the story of Doug Floro and how a seed turned into an opportunity. I started this week by completing his house cleaning proposal with 6 options and hit send! Like I always say, you never know! Right after the proposal, I wrote, published, and repurposed (to social media) a new cleaning newsletter.I also sent out my monthly invoices and something amazing happened. One of my office clients asked if I would be willing to bill ahead for 6 months instead of one. That was an easy answer... "YES!" I read three things into this request:They are very satisfied with my service to book me for 6 months.6-month billing protects them against a price increase and locks me in for 6 months at a time.Their company is so financially responsible, they are paying 6 months in advance. This is the type of company that is mega stable and a wonderful client to have! Now, let's get to the meat of this week's episode. In 18 Gutter Balls, I shared the story of my infamous bowling game of 12 when I was 12. My 83-year-old Pop-Pop still heckles me about that day! The final question I posed was this. "Have you learned yet?" I was doing the same thing, over-and-over again, and expecting a different result. This is the definition of insanity by the late, great Albert Einstein. I was guilty of it that day with my engraved bowling ball and now I get to answer the question.I shared a detailed account of how to wrap up your year in review. It's called Think Week. I have followed this process every year and even published the podcast episode ahead of my 2019 version. Let me get real and transparent. "I haven't learned yet, Pop-Pop." I started to do Think Week by reflecting of my 2019 goals and comparing them to what I accomplished. I achieved about 67%. Not bad. But I dug deeper and saw something that demanded explanation. So I pulled out my 2018 notebook for Think Week and saw the same pattern. To make matters worse, I pulled out every year back to 2012. This revealed that I have been a broken record.I've been doing the same thing over and over and over, expecting my end-of-year results to change. But at the end of each year, I threw a 6 instead of a strike (using the bowling analogy). Some years, I did throw a gutter ball. Here's what I realized. I am a dreamer, an optimist. I love working on my passion projects and I've always had one. Early on, it was an Amway business with Teresa. Then it was writing a novel for dads to read to their kids, followed by coaching & consulting cleaning company owners. The mistake I repeated was setting my SMART goals to grow my passionate side-hustle, while setting the mark for my main business for "just enough". Whether I was an engineer or a solo cleaning owner, I have not set SMART growth goals to raise our level of income past 'just making it' to 'prospering'. I chose to set my SMART growth goals on my side-hustle, that I WANTED to do, yet had no proof of concept! My optimism kicked in as well because I made many assumptions that weren't realistic or attainable. So I'd complete a year with the same main business income and a side income that barely increased. But I was happy and rationalized that I did good because I loved doing it.Read the rest of this article at the Solo Cleaning School website
In today's episode of the Kae Whitaker Show, I talk about how I maintain a healthy work-life balance as a busy mompreneur. It's so funny that I'm even having this conversation because when I worked for someone else I yearned for the quote-un-quote "work-life balance", and as so many of you know, when you start working for yourself, that whole idea goes out the window at the cost of wearing that invisible "S" on your chest, and the "Ultimate Sacrifice" of your dreams! Well before you listen, let me just say this, I completely believe in work-life balance, with the definition of balance being what you define it to be, and I practice it daily in my life. Sometimes my definition of balance changes, but none the less, I'm deliberate about making it apart of my weekly routine. And that's what we're going to talk about in today's episode. Now before you listen, a big part of being able to balance work and life is understanding clearly what your priorities are and being able to define balance. If that's a challenge for you I've recorded another episode for you "Managing Expectations and Creating Breathing Room", I encourage you to listen to that episode because I lay out very clearly how to define your balance and go from there. Today's episode I guess you could say is a follow up to that conversation because I share with you how to practically manage the process so you can actually achieve the balance you've defined for yourself. There's no one cookie-cutter definition of work-life balance but to manage your time to do all of what you NEED to do and all of what you WANT to do sure is a good feeling once you've got it down. So take a listen and let me know what you think, and if you're interested in having a brief look at what we discuss during the show you can check out the outline below. How to Maintain Work-Life Balance as a Busy Mompreneur 1. Place ALL of your affairs on your Calendar - ALL OF THEM I know this may seem kind of elementary, but let me tell you what, in a house of 6 there is no way around it. In the past I would only schedule what I deemed as necessary, ie Work, kids activities, ministry stuff, etc, but I would completely ignore what I WANTED to do. You know like go to the nail shop, go to the spa, get a wax, workout, etc. Consequently, I would always do a great job at doing all of what I "HAD" to do, but at the end of the day or the week, I'd still feel like I wasn't fulfilled and drained because I never scheduled what I wanted to do. The minute I started putting EVERYTHANG, yes I said EVERTHANG, on the calendar, I started to feel my spirit come to life. Now let's be clear when I say calendar, I'm not referring to a routine, I'm say intentionally set aside time that can not be compromised on the calendar so you are actively working towards making it happen each and every week. If those activities turn into a routine, great, but if not and routines are hard, like they are for us, at least you know you've intentionally set aside the time and if you stick to the calendar you're going to meet all of your needs. This only works if you work it though, so be sure to tune into the show and hear how I make sure this happens once I've scheduled that time. 2. Project Manage Your Time - Heard of Time Blocking? Now for me, I do time blocking my own way. I start with allocating hours to work, hours to myself, then filling in all of my other commitments. For some moms, this may seem a little backward, and maybe even a little selfish, but it's my way of doing it. Why do you ask? If I don't then I won't get to me. My family is BUSY honey, like always on the go, so I have to allocate time for me to be scheduled weekly or monthly, if not then I'll miss out on me. Once I allocate the time, I still have to schedule it, so don't be fooled my work isn't done and on the show, I give you some of the deets on how I make that happen. 3.
In this episode I want to tell you about my perfect Monday. I spent the day working on all the things I WANTED to work on - but kept postponing for a long time. I mainly enjoyed working on this beautiful somewhat realistic painting ☺️ You can find a larger version of it in my recent Instagram post @LironYanIL.

This is the podcast where you get your whole Phil. I talk about whatever I want, with whomever I want, and do whatever I want, because there's no rules, no format, and no bleeping censors (sorry Mom). Thanks for joining me today, November 17. Let me tell you a little about me, I'm a loving, lovable, fat, hairy, queer, inked, sober, spiritual, vegetarian, feminist radical leftist web developer, video producer and deejay in DC. Now that you know a little about me and where we are, let me know a little about you. Tweet me, at reallyphilreese, I'd love to meet you. Let's start the show. Today am going to talk about procrastination.I WANTED to talk about it tomorrow, but I promised you an episode today, and I guess I better stick to it.I am a natural procrastinator. Why do today what you can put off until ... infinity?Procrastination isn't just about putting something off. We have to reprioritize and rearrange our schedules sometimes. Just the other day I was planning to get a haircut, but I ran out of time because the very pressing priority of playing with my cats came up. Then just this morning I was going to go to the internet store and return a router that I'm not even using anymore and paying rent on, but then my bed was very warm and comfortable. Then there's the blankets I really need to take to the laundromat.I will find any excuse to procrastinate. And it's a real problem. Most people wouldn't call me lazy, though. That's because procrastination isn't about laziness it's about fear and anxiety. We put off those things we aren't sure we're prepared to deal with yet. Almost all the tasks I procrastinate on deal with having to leave my apartment, lug a bunch of stuff around town by myself on public transit, deal with strangers, and be unsure about how much time the task will take. My anxiety over these things lead me to want to banish the thought of the task from my consciousness so I can think of something more pleasant. We often use these anxieties to give us an excuse to then be lazy instead, but the laziness is a byproduct of the anxieties and procrastination, not the cause of it.What can I do to combat this then.Sometimes I use other anxieties as a motivator. In the case of my haircut, I may tell my DJ partner, Ben I'm going to get a fresh cut before our party on Friday. The anxiety of then showing up and looking like a liar Friday will overpower my anxiety about sitting around in the barber shop for God knows how long.In other cases I may seek out encouragement from someone with more experience. In the case of dealing with my internet company, I have a neighbor who deals with them frequently. I may ask him what his experience at their office was like, so I know a little better what to expect. Finally, necessity can take care of others. It's getting cold. I need clean blankets. So it's either freeze to death or buck up and haul my stuff to the boring laundromat. In this case, maybe I can ask a friend to join me to make it a little less unpleasant and pass the time.Knowing your procrastination's source is actually specific anxieties and not just laziness can help you conquer it. What are you procrastinating on? And what fears or anxieties might be behind that? Is there anyone you can talk to to help you alleviate that fear?So knock something out today you've been procrastinating on! That's it for today. I hope you're enjoying the show. Transcript:I’ve wanted to do this podcast for a long time because this is one of the most life changing emotional intelligence techniques I’ve learned. It’s called “The 5 Why’s.” You might have heard me mention it or quickly go through it in past podcasts but I decided that this is such a good technique that I would devote an entire podcast to it.I first heard about this technique from a wonderful Instagram influencer and online course creator, Hilary Rushford. Jeff Bezos is the one who originally used it, I believe, after one of his employees hurt his hand in the conveyor belt. Instead of blaming the employee and moving on, he decided to find out WHY it happened. By following the 5 Why’s, he discovered a design flaw and fixed it. Here is how it works:Identify a problem, repetitive thought pattern or behavior, or any resistive behavior meaning you feel an inner resistance to do something you know you should. I’ll give examples in a bit. Next, ask the first why like, “Why do I FILL IN THE BLANK?” Or “Why do I keep putting this off?” Or “Why do I always react this way when this happens?” A business problem could be, “Why do I never have enough cash flow?” You might think it’s simple math but it might be a spending problem, poor management, or need for more clients. Then based on the answer to question #1, ask question #2 and so forth until you get to the fifth question and answer. It should be that the answer of the fifth WHY is like a light bulb of insight goes off in your brain that EMPOWERS you to make the necessary changes. Or if it’s an emotional intelligence issue, it should bring you the knowledge you need as to the why so you can stop it and change your behavior. If you get to the fifth why and there’s not any insight or breakthrough, you’re either asking the wrong questions or need to go deeper. And while we’re on emotional intelligence, I want to quickly define what that is: Self-awareness of your emotional state and the state of those around you. I.e. you know where you’re at emotionally and if your emotional state is negatively impacting others (being aware of their state). You can take it a tad further and by knowing the emotional state of others, adjust yourself accordingly. For example, if I meet with a client and she seems “off,” I’ll take a moment to make sure she’s ok. If she opens up to me that she’s struggling, I’ll offer to reschedule or help her as best I can if she’ll let me. I literally had this happen the other day. Personal responsibility. Too many people give their power to others meaning they allow others to affect their emotional state and decisions. You need to know where you begin and the other person ends and where the other person ends and you begin. Personal responsibility is owning your emotions, thoughts, and actions and not blaming others for them. It’s also not allowing others to steal that power from you.Inner motivation of self that isn’t stopped by external circumstances. I.e. you accomplish what you set out to accomplish IN SPITE of what’s going on in your life and without the need for others to cheer you on. In fact, you not only keep going, you keep going when others tell you that you CAN’T DO IT.Two ExamplesTo finish up, I want to share with you two specific times I used the 5 Why’s with amazing results. The first was in 2015, I believe. During that time, I was focused on learning about building wealth. I was learning what the Bible had to say about wealth, practical things about wealth, and working on emotional intelligence issues to uncover the why behind poor spending habits, lack of budgeting, etc.So I asked the first Why: 1. Why do I impulse buy?a. Because I feel good when I do.2. Why do I feel good buying things?a. Here a memory came up of when my dad was home (he was a truck driver) and he was always generous and bought me gifts. Nothing extravagant. But difficult relationships with step moms meant I was usually very unhappy when he was gone. So the answer was that I only felt happy when dad was home and he bought me gifts.3. Why did I only feel happy when dad was home?a. I knew it wasn’t because of the gifts. I just wanted to be with him. So my answer was, “Because I felt loved and accepted.”4. Why did I only feel loved and accepted when with him.a. I didn’t feel loved by my step moms. Now at this point I didn’t even need to go on. I now knew why I was impulse buying. The reality is that I am accepted and loved and don’t need to impulse purchase. From that moment on, I’ve filtered purchases through three criteria: Does it bring real joy? Is it a treasure? And is it excellent? The other example was my resistance to conduct live events at my local Chamber of Commerce. This one caught me off guard.I had attended a training at the Chamber, and we were instructed to partner up with another person there and meet that week to help each other work through a business/professional problem. I met with my friend, and we got to work. Hers was a personality issue at work and since I know personalities very well and teach on them, I helped her pretty quickly. Now it was my turn. At first I couldn’t think of anything and then I thought of my reluctance to hold live events. She asked me why and I told her that I was afraid no one would come. She thought that was silly because I had a good reputation already and helped people more than I realized. Suddenly my eyes teared up and I had a memory of when I was 11 years old and invited my friends to my a birthday party, but no one showed up. I knew that was the key so I went home and did a five why. And here is where it’s crucial to ask the right questions. Instead of asking why that bothered me so much, which is not the question I needed to ask, I asked why no one came. After going through each why I understood I’d targeted the wrong market! I’d invited the “cool” kids, the kids I WANTED to be friends with instead of my real friends. Of course, they didn’t come. I’d also treated my real friends badly. It wasn’t that I didn’t have anything of value to give others or that there was some type of defect in me. It was that I had targeted the wrong people, a basic marketing mistake! So I scheduled the first lunch and learn and haven’t looked back since. It’s one of the most attended training events at the Chamber. There ya go. The five why’s. I’d love to hear how it’s helped you in either your personal or professional life. Don’t hesitate to contact me. If you run into obstacles, let me know. I’d love to help! Text me at 575-693-6702!

Where are you delaying your success? Where are you delaying your success? Right now? In this moment! I bet you there’s somewhere! Now, my last episode was all about the power of patience so you might be thinking, hang on...you said to be patient and now it sounds like you’re telling me to hurry up?! Quite the contrary. Patience is an AMAZING business and life tool and you can listen to the episode to see the benefits. Not delaying your success is absolutely NOT about ‘rushing’ it, let me be super clear on that. As per the previous episode rushing is where things start to go wrong and mistakes can be made. Don’t deny yourself the lessons you learn on the journey, they’re important. It’s about identifying key areas where the process is taking longer than it actually needs to. It’s about looking at what you’re doing and seeing if there is a quicker, more efficient way to do it. Looking at all those ways you’re potentially holding yourself back or slowing yourself down for whatever reason, where, if there were a couple of tweaks in productivity and mindset, you could actually move along to where you’re aiming to go that much quicker. A few things to think about and ways you might be delaying your success How many things are you focused on right now? When you’re focused on a million things at the same time how far do you actually get with each one? If you’re constantly feeling busy but feeling like you’re not really getting anywhere this is something to really have a look at. I love the bridge analogy. Where you are, if you’re building several bridges at once you never get to the other side. If you concentrate on one bridge you get to where you’re going that much faster. (Listen to How To Focus) Where are you letting fear dominate? Are you putting off the scary, overwhelming tasks? When you feel yourself putting off a particular task ask yourself, ‘what am I afraid of?’. I like to encourage clients to do the big, scary, out of your comfort zone tasks because it’s the fastest way to grow. So what are you putting off at the moment? (Related Episodes: Fear, Fear of Success, Fear of Judgement, Fear of Failure) Where are you overthinking or over complicating? Oh this is a big one.Simplify, simplify, simplify. If you can’t see where you can then work with a coach or join a mastermind (you can look at mine HERE) to get someone else's perspective. Often someone else giving you another way of doing things is a HUGE time saver. Take a step back and have a look and see where you might be doing this. (Related Episodes: Overthinking) Are you winging it? Winging it is the ultimate way you might be delaying your success. If you don’t have a solid plan or goals in place then you’ll be doing a bit here, and a bit there, but never really getting anywhere. There are SO many reasons to make sure your goals are in place and I have a previous episode on how to set goals that work for YOU. You can see how easy it could be to SEEM like you’re working towards your business but winging it can feel overwhelming, over complicated, frustrating, BUSY and like you’re not really moving. (Related Episodes: Goals that work for you) Where are you wasting precious time that you don’t need to? Where could you outsource but you’re not? Often the irony is we think we don’t have time to outsource...but honestly, while it may take a moment to show someone how you like something done, you only need to do it once! Next time you do a task write it down on a google doc or on something like process street and then you’re ready to outsource! Put a monetary value on your time and then you’ll see how much cheaper it is in the long run to outsource those tasks. Stay in your zone of genius as much as you can.(Related Episodes: How to find time) You’re not getting a second opinion, you’re too close to it to see another perspective. One of my favourite things about my Proactive Pants Mastermind is those penny drop moments where you can see a visible shift, like a weight lifting, purely from having another perspective. Or another way of thinking about or looking at something. That little idea from someone else's perspective that makes a massive difference to someone's business, headspace, bottom line etc. It’s pure magic. Don’t deny yourself that by staying in the weeds by yourself. It’s no fun there at all. You’re not selling and assuming people know how they can work with you. Do I really need to say any more about this one? People need things spelling out for them. Give them a call to action, whether it’s ‘book in a call’, ‘Click here’, ‘subscribe’. Tell them where to go. It takes people on average to see a message 7 times before they buy. Make it easy for them...By the way you can book in a call to talk to me about working one on one and get my eyes on YOUR mindset gremlins or join us in my Proactive Pants Mastermind where you’re never more than a few days away from solving a problem and you get stuff DONE! The link is in the show notes and on my website which is www.franexcell.com See what I did there? Just in case! You’re only looking at the strategy and not what’s going on in your noggin. I’ve said this time and again. You can have all the strategy in the world but if you’ve got an unconscious belief that causes you to sabotage your efforts you’re wasting your time, effort, energy and money. Go to the source and sort that part out FIRST! (Related Episodes: Top Mindset Gremlins, Self sabotage) You’re rushing and spending on things you don’t need yet, leaving not enough left over for things that you could really use right now! I was super guilty of this. I think I had every online course under the sun on every platform etc...before i’d even actually really thought about what I WANTED my business to look like. I rushed ahead, thought I needed to be on every platform because I listened to the online BS and spent a load of money and wasted a load of time learning things that just aren’t part of my business now. Go back to my point about focus! (Related Episodes: Shiny Object Syndrome) You’re not investing in yourself as a priority. It’s pretty easy to invest in something that teaches you something very specific or has a very tangible outcome. It’s not as easy to invest in the thing that could potentially give you the biggest return. You! I believe it’s an important step to take, firstly to sort out the underlying mindset gremlin shenanigans that will hold you back and make all the strategy you invest in not work...but also to have that exchange. When you’re asking people to invest in you but you haven’t done it yourself it makes it so much harder. Investing in yourself and your mindset can drastically shortcut your success. You’re trying to do it all on your own. Two heads are better than one right? It’s too easy to get stuck in the weeds on your own. Find your biz besties, a coach or a mastermind group or even a VA or online business manager so you have somewhere to turn when you most need it. This will again, DRASTICALLY shortcut your success. So, there are a few things for you to think about. Don’t obsess over the final destination and make sure you’re enjoying the journey of getting there, but don’t delay getting there unnecessarily. If you know that now is the time to start changing things for yourself and want to explore this further, have any questions or want some accountability to make sure you’re doing the things you need to then please book in a free discovery call so we can see what needs to happen to get you from where you’re at right now, to the successful business owner you know you can be!! But this week Brian gets to interview his boyhood idol, as Bob joins him to discuss writing, broadcasting and sports media.Bob and Brian talk about Bob's memories of Syracuse University, and his mentor Stan Alten (1:35); the uneasy relationship between sports television and the leagues they cover, and how that has gotten harder to navigate over the past decade (5:45); how writing plays a role in his job, his process for writing commentaries, and how Bryant Gumbel was a master at writing to a specific time (11:00); the sports writers he looks up to (16:34); the newspapers he read growing up (all 5 of them) (21:05); Bob's legendary story about Goldie Goldthorpe, the inspiration for Ogie Oglethorpe in Slapshot (22:15); and the best thing Bob's read lately (27:02).I Wanted to be Bob CostasK: A History of Baseball in Ten Pitches by Tyler KepnerYou Gotta Play Hurt by Dan JenkinsSubscribe:Apple PodcastsOvercastGoogle PlayRSS
This week's episode comes from recent conversations with a few new clients. When I explain why I left the wirehouse (big-bank brokerage firms), it's because I WANTED to hold myself to a different standard as an advisor. One that has a legal obligation to put the interests of my clients first. The biggest question to me is: Why do advisors stay at the name-brand companies and consciously DECIDE to NOT put their clients' best interests first? Questions? As we end yet another Christmas holiday season. I was conflicted on what topic to choose for this episode. Because as I spent time with my loved ones, I kind of thought about you…the audience. I wondered to myself, “how many people out there are as fortunate to be able to spend times like these surrounded by people they love and by people that love them?". It made me scrap the topics that I WANTED to use and maybe talk a bit about that. Statistics say that this time of year is high for depression, suicides and personal misery and feelings of hopelessness. In fact I was reading from Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center that read that some believe that the “holiday cheer amplifies loneliness and hopelessness in people who have lost loved ones, or who have high expectations of renewed happiness during the holiday season, only to be disappointed”. - Anyone who knows me, knows I’m not big on annual resolutions because I believe in resolving for life. But I don’t hate on change and improving on oneself. - So if anyone of you listeners are looking to resolve in the upcoming year, make moving through love the first thing you choose. Everything else will fall into place. I promise. - Do you agree or disagree with anything discussed here? I would love to know. Lets talk! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/untitled-the-show/support

30th Sunday in Ordinary Time When I was young, I didn't like doing the dishes - it was an obligation, a duty, something I HAD to do. When my parents came up to visit me the other week, I cooked them a nice meal, and then miracle of miracles...I wanted to do the dishes! Out of thankfulness for all they've done for me, I WANTED to do that service for them. In our Gospel today Jesus heals a blind man who then follows Him along the way. This once blind man is not living his faith out of a sense of duty or obligation - he's living his faith with enthusiasm because he's thankful for what Jesus has done for him. How do we live out our faith? How do we live out our relationship with God? Is it under a burdening sense of duty and obligation, or as an energizing, thankful and joyful response to what Jesus has done in our lives? What has Jesus done for you recently? Keeping that answer at the forefront of your mind will transform your faith!
Welcome to a very special edition of Parables from the Pit as the amazing story of Kahea and his boys is shared with Coach Sam Falsafi. It’s a story of courage, darkness, heartbreak, and turning points, where Kahea and his sons, seemingly against all odds, come out victorious. Kahea also shares his involvement with Operation Underground Railroad as a special operative traveling throughout the world rescuing children and taking out traffickers. _________________________________________________________ Parable #1: I Wanted to Be Happy Kahea: I married young and was excited to have a family. After the first year, we realized we weren’t even great friends, we were more like roommates. We were different in the way we viewed the world and we just wanted different things. A month after the birth of our youngest son, we ended up having a conversation where we decided to get divorced. She moved out shortly thereafter, leaving me with our baby and our almost three-year-old to raise. In my culture and religion, marriage is something you’re supposed to stay in, no matter what. I wanted to be happy, yet this didn’t feel like a life I could continue with. It wasn’t everything that I had thought it would be. We were living in this close-knit village community in Hawaii where I felt like everyone had ended up turning their backs on me, even the people I knew well and had helped out because we had chosen a different path. QUESTION What are your beliefs about “sticking it out” in marriage? When do you know it’s time to part ways? Parable #2: From Millions to Welfare Kahea: A year prior to this when I was 26, I had a 12 million dollar real estate investment going through. By the time I was 27, I had bought my first office building in Honolulu and had $18M of assets. It was 2008, the year the market crashed. Everything in my life and all across America started going downhill and within eight months, I had lost everything and found myself standing in a welfare line just to be able to feed my kids. Prior to finding myself standing in the welfare line, I had won a business award from one of the biggest banks in Hawaii. They shot a commercial highlighting my success and for some reason, the airing of it had been delayed for eight months. So here I am standing in the welfare line with my baby in my arms, trying to get assistance so I could feed him when out of the corner of my eye, I see this commercial with me talking about big business and success. I tried to hide my face, hoping no one would see me and make the connection with the commercial playing in the corner of the room. QUESTION How does your life resonate with Kahea’s experiences? Parable #3: Dad, Come Back to the Campout Kahea: Financially, we’re crashing. The divorce is going through, my wife has moved out leaving me with a brand new baby and my 2 1/2-year-old who has just been diagnosed with spastic pysista cerebral palsy. I’ve given my wife the last $5K I had in the bank, the house is in foreclosure, 0ne of our dogs has been shot by the neighbor, the other one has been stolen, and I keep dodging the guy trying to repossess the car that I need to take my son to the hospital, which is an hour away, for treatments, surgery, and therapy. One particular evening proved to be a turning point for Kahea when they came home from the hospital to find the electricity had been disconnected. It was during their third night of camping in his bedroom, unable to console his crying baby with cold milk, that he found himself crumpled and broken in a corner of their home. “My three year old comes over to me and asks, Dad, are we still doing our campout? Dad, come back to the campout! That moment was my ‘I need to be a fucking diamond’ moment.” QUESTION What were the conditions that led up to your ‘I need to be a fucking diamond’ moment? How has your life changed because of it? Parable #4: We Just Don’t Quit One of Kahea’s legs was shorter than the other which caused him a lot of pain through the years. He was prone to injury and found it very difficult to stand up any longer than five or ten minutes at a time. Surgery was suggested and as he researched the different possibilities, he found one that was experimental and was only the fourth person in the U.S. to have it performed. Determined not to be wheelchair bound for months or even years, after surgery he began a rigorous five hour per day physical therapy regime which enabled him to eventually train for and enter the Hawaiian Ironman. During his recovery as he crawled up the stairs to his second-floor bedroom, he would say to his boys, “What do you do when you fall and break both your legs?” They would answer back, “You get back up with your arms!” “They’ve learned and witnessed directly from me that no matter what happens, we just don’t quit.” QUESTION What have you accomplished that seemed out of reach at one point in time? Parable #5: Divine Mission Kahea has built a $75M empire since the days of standing in the welfare line and has continued to find purpose not only in his children who are everything to him but also inside of an organization that is very near and dear to his heart. While listening to Elizabeth Smart share her story of being kidnapped from her home at the young age of 13 and becoming a sex slave for the next eight months before her miraculous rescue, something stirred inside Kahea’s soul and spoke to him. Kahea: A couple of years later, all the pieces came together and fell in my lap that enabled me to become a special operative for Operation Underground Railroad where we rescue kids from sex slavery and child trafficking. There are only ten of us who do these ops all over the world. Our main objective? Rescue the kids and take out the traffickers. QUESTION For more information about Operation Underground Railroad, go to ourrescue.org Parables from the Pit: “I feel that why you are here, and what you are doing, is a reflection of the man you have built for the past decade. You’re on a mission, a Divine mission. ‘Come back to the campout’ was the light that came to you through your son, and now you’re bringing that light to the children.” — Coach Sam Falsafi “This has taught me so many lessons over the years, even now. It’s taught me how two individuals could be in the same location and under the same conditions, physically, and yet be emotionally different only because one chose to see things differently than the other.” –Kahea

Oh my goodness, there was sooo much good music at SXSW this year! Of all varieties. From country to hip hop. From ska to soul. From folk to dancehall. All of it. So good. Your new favorite song is on this podcast. I’m sure of it. Happy listening. Sorry it took a little longer this year to get through it all but narrowing down my favorites to just 30 was even more difficult than usual. For those unfamiliar with my process, every year I listen to every artist performing at SXSW. It’s on the order of 2000-3000 performers. I then narrow that down to a manageable size of around 100, which I use to build my schedule if I’m going to the festival (which I have sadly missed the last couple years). From there, I cull down to 20-30 bands for the podcast. If you want to hear the top hundred, or the top approximately 300 sorted by genre, I have all those playlists up on Spotify at ActiveListener. In other words, you can go way deeper if you want, something I would highly recommend. Who are you trying to impress? Why are you trying so hard? Who are you trying to please? These are questions that I used to find asking myself repeatedly. It was a constant battle between my actions and my thoughts as well as what I knew would serve me best and what I was actually doing. It felt like I was living polar opposite lives at points – I knew what I WANTED to do, what would serve my mind and my body, but I was on such a mission to please EVERYONE that I went against that completely. The truth is this: Not everyone will ‘like’ you. Not everyone vibes with you or bounces off your energy and you won’t always love everyone you meet – We are all different and that’s what makes this world so interesting. One of the hardest lessons I had to learn was that not everyone will like you and you can’t make them like you no matter how much you try. As we are all different and unique in our own way, that means that every single relationship we have with people will be different. No one relationship is the same. We all bring a certain amount and type of energy to the table and when that energy combines with another person’s, it mixes into something totally original – chemistry. That chemistry doesn’t always create fantastic everlasting relationships and sometimes there might even be non-starters, but that’s all part of this energy combining experiment. I wanted to share with you why it's so important to let go of being a 'people pleaser' and how it's essential to live life authentically and true to yourself. After all - who are you trying to impress?
Ivan Decker is a successful stand up comedian who has performed on the Conan O'Brien show Just for Laughs, and also opened for John Mulaney, Ricky Gervais, Gerry Dee, and Bryan Callen among others. His album I Wanted to be a Dinosaur is available on Spotify, Apple Music etc. Also, I forgot to mention the artists of two of the songs on the show. The first one I say sounds like Mortal Kombat is performed by ATA KAK, and the weird German proto Die Antwoord is the group HGich.T.
Hey everyone! It’s Suzanne and I want to thank you for joining us for the So Suzy Podcast where we help you build a business out of the hobby you love. You will also be able to get the show notes and the links we reference by visiting us at SoSuzyPodcast.com Over the past 6 months or so, I have been listening to the Strong Within Podcast from Chris O’Hearn. It’s a quick 7 to 11-minute podcast that focuses on, essentially, the power of YOU. Every day Chris has a Daily Affirmation podcast that 9 out of 10 times totally hits home and leaves me asking a ton of questions and gets my mind going a million miles a minute. One of his podcasts, number 338, I Bring Joy to Whatever I Do, left me thinking about my craft life; making cards, painting galaxies, coloring the latest Kit and Clowder monthly class and the joy it brings…until I think about the picture and posting process. Getting the right light, posting it in my favorite Facebook Groups or Instagram. Do I blog about it or just post it? So many times, I make cards at night and the lighting is terrible, so I fret about the lighting and staging. So many of these thoughts race through my head until I am frustrated, disillusioned and depressed about the whole process. If I blog about it, I should write instructions, leave a list of the items I used and include all of the correct SEO words. It takes time and we all know how poorly I take photos, so let’s not even broach that touchy subject. Bottom-line, everything that should be done, sucks the joy out of something I used to do to relax. Making cards has turned into a chore. I see others post their creations and it never fails, just as they get the courage to post, the evil troll comes out of its dark, dank, hate infused hole to spread its hatred for all to read. Confession? There are times when I post in the hopes of one such soul sucker will leave a nasty comment on my project, just so I can have the pure pleasure of blasting them into the darkest depths of hell for the pain and suffering they have caused to other crafters. And yes, I probably have watched John Wick one too many times. But I digress. After listening to Chris’s podcast, I realized that I stopped making cards out of JOY. Instead, I was making them out of necessity. Whether they were for business, blog hops, holiday cards, or for my own ego, it wasn’t always because I WANTED to. I would make a card and then throw it into a drawer. Not send them out. There was no purpose, other than to make a card, post it and get a reaction. A heart, like or comment. What I wasn’t focused on, was the JOY. The joy of making it, spending time in my craft room, playing with my stamps and supplies, thinking of the person I would send the latest creation to. Those thoughts were not at the forefront of my mind and it caused me to lose the happiness I once had. Which depressed me, here I am surrounded by tens of thousands of dollars in killer stamps and supplies and I was SAD, burnt out and did not have the joy I once had. And frankly, that was unacceptable. That month’s Kit and Clowder class, I colored the Penguin Christmas scene for Shannon, who absolutely LOVES penguins. I painted so many galaxies, it was INSANE! And turned them into bookmarks for friends, family and my mom to give out at Christmas. I started playing with my Art Impressions stamps and made cute little watercolor projects. I painted more galaxies because they put a smile on my face and I created something special for my friend Anne in England. I started to find MY JOY again. Sometimes I would post something on Instagram and I didn’t worry about the staging, lighting or anything else for that matter. I posted them because I thought they were cool and I needed to make sure that my mom had proof of life. I found my memory of why I enjoyed making cards. Chris said in his podcast, “We believe that joy is brought to us in the new things we receive, instead of understanding what we already have is joyful. So, we wait for that new thing to come, in hopes that it will make us feel better. We are bored with what we already have, and we get impatient thinking that our lives aren’t what they should be because of the idea that newness brings joy.” Which got me to thinking about all of the stamps and supplies I have and have not even used. Let’s face it, retail therapy is AMAZING, but how many of you are like me and have stamp sets that you have NEVER used? We buy them and have grand ideas of using the stamps and making gorgeous cards, but then they arrive and already we are looking at the next PERFECT stamp set, and we must have it. This reality smacked me full on in the face while I was cleaning my craft room and I found two bags full of unopened and unused supplies. One bag was from 2 years ago, the other bag was from 6 years ago!!! I bought stamps and never even pulled them out of the bag! As I went through my purchases and after I got over my initial disgust with myself, I started to remember why I bought them. How cool they were and what I could make with them. A part of me was tempted to put them back in the bag and put them away later, but let’s face it, creator first, adult second, right? So, I pulled out one of the stamps and started playing with it. Just because. For no real purpose, except that I wanted to use it. Which led to going through my other drawers and checking out some of the other stamps in my collection and do you know what? It was like shopping all over again, except I was doing it in my own house without spending any more money and it was so much fun! A messy fun, but the smiles just kept coming. My stamps were like a mini photo album of my life. What I was attracted to, the styles I have had over the years, the memories of why I purchased them and for whom. I also discovered that I truly love snarky stamps and always have. I sat for hours laughing at all of the silliness. I had found of my joy. There were no pictures. No posts to social media. It was just me, surrounded by a humongous mess of stamps and a whole lot of happiness. If you have lost your mojo or your joy for creating, take some time for you and find your joy. Make a card because YOU want to. Don’t worry about posting it. Don’t fret about how it measures up to the latest and greatest crafting diva. Just make it for the joy of creating. Go through your stamps and supplies, what does your stamping life album look like? Remember the emotions you had when you made the purchases. The people you had in mind. Make a card for someone just for the joy of giving. Don’t worry about what they do with it after they receive it, just know that in that instant when they open their mailbox and see an envelope that is not a bill and open up your card, you gave them the gift of happiness. A bright spot in their day and life. Your thoughtfulness and creativity is the joy in their life. Until next time, this is Suzanne, and you have been listening to the So Suzy Podcast. Happy Stamping!
You have customers but they are cheap, complain a lot, and are a pain to deal with. If they aren’t controlled, corralled, and completely ejected they can eat your time, your cash flow, and your business alive. This week we’re going to show you how to fix that problem and prevent it from ever happening again…so you only deal with cool people that you like. Click here to download or listen to this episode now. Spiritual Foundations Is there a scriptural foundation for only working with good clients who appreciate your work and pay you what you’re worth? I’m so glad you asked. Check this out: “You shall not muzzle an ox while it treads out the grain,” and, “The laborer is worthy of his wages.” 1 Timothy 5:18 (NKJV) In this week’s episode Sean and I give you some additional insight on this verse that I think you’ll find valuable. Tip of the Week This week’s tip is the wonderful and magnificent service known as Amazon Subscribe & Save. You can set up regularly scheduled deliveries and earn savings on everything from diapers to toothpaste to dog treats…literally thousands of everyday products from Amazon and Amazon Marketplace. My ambition in life is to never run another errand again, and this service may just make that possible. Feature Presentation: How Do I Attract Better Customers? A 10-Step Plan That Works I finally got relief from my dire situation when I fired the clients who were the big trouble-makers and got really clear about who I WANTED to work with. You can do this too, by simply following this 10-step plan: Set the Criteria for Being a “Good” Client. Define the qualities of your ideal customer. Be on the lookout for these unicorns. Set the Criteria for Being a “Bad” Client. Define the qualities that make you miserable or stressed with clients. Swear that you will never take another client, nor keep a client, who has ANY of these qualities, Purge the Scourge. Examine your existing client base and get rid of any stinkers. Preach the “Good Client Gospel.” Publish your “Do’s and Don’ts” clearly, frequently and boldly. Develop a “Bad Client Mythology.” Tell client horror stories and make them part of your Company Mythology – so your prospective clients know how you identify “bad apples” – and let them know what happens to bad apples. Develop a keen sense of discernment about people. Every time I have taken on a bad client, I always had a nagging feeling deep inside that I had ignored. Trust your sensors. Make them work for it. If they really want to work with you, make them prove it. Put some hurdles in place. Weed out the clients who ignore, break, or try to circumvent the rules of being accepted as your client. Be Expensive. While his alone can be a good filter, it is not 100% effective. There are some nasty, needy, broken, and/or crazy people who have lots of money. Listen to Your Team. Be completely unreasonable. While it will help you screen out the “problem children,” it will also cause the Good Clients to want you even more. And…you guessed it…some snippets from our conversation: For vegetarians only (9:10) Sean “sparkly” rant (9:35) The Force is strong with this one (12:15) Ray & Sean tackle The Great Unicorn Debate (12:27) Are you willing to take the oath? This is AADA, and I’m Craig Burgess When I started this podcast On January 1st 2017 I started it for the wrong reasons I’d long since wanted to make a podcast As I’ve been interested in the medium for a long time But I chose the wrong style of podcast to make I was making a podcast because I wanted to market my business I wanted to market myself And I wanted to increase my profile in the marketing world But, that was wrong on so many levels Because I’d set my podcast up to talk about design, marketing and business I mainly focused on marketing and business As I knew that was what most of my clients would find most useful… For me to give information about I had a massive problem though It was a huge elephant in the room that I chose to ignore That all this marketing and business talk Just wasn’t me And I didn’t believe in it I’m a designer at heart, and I love, eat and breathe design I’m interested in other stuff too like human performance And psychology But none of that straight forward business stuff I really believed in Or was interested by Straight out of the blocks, my podcast was doomed from episode one There was no way I was ever going to make a success of something I didn’t believe in Some people might categorise success by the download numbers, and they were strong and getting stronger But I didn’t feel successful, I felt trapped in something I didn’t enjoy I didn’t believe in my podcast, or my content And I didn’t have the passion or drive to carry it on I figured it out late in the game that I needed to make something that I WANTED to make Not what I thought would make me successful, whatever that even means I was making something that I didn’t really dare share on my personal Facebook timeline Because I knew most of my friends wouldn’t enjoy it And I never listened back to any of my episodes after I’d produced them Because I didn’t enjoy listening back to them either Everything was wrong Just, so wrong Now, looking back at it, I can’t believe how stupid or tunnel visioned I’d become with it But hindsight always has perfect vision With my new style of podcast? I guess it’s not so new now… It might sound a bit weird, but I actually enjoy listening back to my episodes now I make something that I enjoy producing, and that I enjoy listening to I make something that I think is good, and I make it for myself and nobody else I make it because I enjoy making things, and because of that, I’m always trying to make it better I make a product that I believe in 100%, and I believe you should be doing the same too After all, what is success, really? What does success really mean? Lots of people like to categorise success as fancy cars And big houses But as a creator, and a maker I categorise success as making stuff that I believe in That I can look back at And...
"I think I was like a lot of people in that I WANTED it to be a choice. If gay is a choice, I thought, then it makes the Christian theology of it so much simpler. Religion is hard, because it requires faith. It's mysterious and, at times, inscrutable. Faith is the bridge that gets us through the uncertainty, but it's tough to hang with faith sometimes. Because of this, people of faith love the parts of it that are certain and agreed upon by everyone. I know I do..."
Opener: skipped this time, because we cover so many games in the main show My last episode of 2016 is going to (pretty much!) wrap up my coverage of BGGcon. Two more SoCal friends join me across many miles & timezones to share their experiences at the convention. It's a very game-specific episode, with many titles discussed. They're pictured below, but you really should follow along with their geeklists (linked below). This brings another year and season of Boardgames To Go to a close. I'll definitely be back in January to kick off the next season. When I moved to France for my job mid-year, I really wasn't sure what would happen with the podcast. I knew I WANTED to keep it going, but could I? Yes! It may even be possible that I've put out more episodes than I would've at home (especially if you include Wargames To Go, which is on a roll.) Thanks to all of my listeners who stuck with me another year. Brian's Geeklist of the following games & star ratings Dave's Geeklist of the following games & star ratings Closer: skipped this, too, because we talk about "meta" stuff throughout the episode -Mark
Welcome to 2016 Last year, I committed to learning more and getting fitter. Never in my wildest dreams, did I realize that learning was actually the key to getting me up off my butt, and out the door to exercise. Normally on Bringing Business To Retail Tv, we talk about actionable business strategies, that you can implement, to grow your business. Well, this episode is about you, because YOU are your businesses most important asset. Let me tell you the story of how wanting to learn more, actually taught me how to run For me, 2015 was about learning. I was determined to enrol in some courses, read loads of books and blog posts and all those newsletters that I subscribe to, then delete, because of email overload. Sound familiar? Here’s what I did. Starting with the email. I went and created a separate email address for newsletter subscriptions. This way, I could focus on proper business emails, and when I had some spare time, could flick through and see what I want to read. Starting with the email. I went and created a separate email address for newsletter subscriptions. This way, I could focus on proper business emails, and when I had some spare time, could flick through and see what I want to read. I know there are a load of programs that can help email overload, like unroll.me, sanebox and boomerang, and at some point this year, I'm sure I’ll get onto that. What I found though, was I just didn't seem to have big chunks of time to dedicate to learning. Once Google Reader was relegated to the Google rubbish tip, I couldn't even keep track of blogs. I used to flick through them in the line at the supermarket, or whilst cooking dinner. I never got the hang of feedly which was kind of a Google Reader substitute, so, my blog reading went by the wayside. I don't even really know how I stumbled onto podcasts. What I do remember, is thinking it was waaay to technologically advanced for me, and I didn't have itunes (android girl here). At some point, I bit the bullet and downloaded an app that I could listen to podcasts through. I chose podcastaddict (simply because it was the first one that came up) but you can also use Stitcher on Android, or itunes for you apple lovers This was a massive turning point for me. All of a sudden, my 20 minute trip to work was filled with all this new information. My head was spinning. So many ideas I could put into practice! For the first couple of months, it seemed that I was starting every conversation with "I was listening to this podcast and...." In fact, finding podcasts was one of the key drivers (hah, get it, drivers, because I listen to them when I'm driving) to me achieving another goal, which I was failing miserably at. Exercising 3 times per week. All of a sudden, I WANTED to exercise more, so I could have another 45 mins to fit in more learning. I was getting 2 podcasts in a day! I actually started doing 4 walks per week. All those endorphins and knowledge was making my brain swirl. I couldn't turn it off. I was imagining just how different my business would have been if I'd stumbled across this way of learning earlier. And it made me realise, that independent retailers, just often don't have the time to work on themselves. They are so busy working in the business, not on the business. We've all heard it before. So it propelled me to do something. It’s the reason I launched the Bringing Business to Retail podcast. My aim of the podcast is to bring business experts, mostly from outside the retail industry, to share their knowledge and wisdom. It sounds a bit counter-intuitive, bringing in outsiders, but I promise, you can learn so much from other people, especially when their situation is removed from yours. Listening to podcasts introduced me to Natalie Sisson, The Suitcase Entrepreneur. In fact, joining her mastermind, was the catalyst to me selling my retail stores and creating this new business, designed to help you, the small business retailer. I now have a stable of podcasts that I listen to. At the moment, in addition to the Suitcase Entrepreneur, on high rotation are: Pat Flynn’s Smart Passive Income Amanda Cook’s Wellpreneuronline (I love this, even though I’m not in the wellness industry) Amy Porterfield’s Online Marketing Made Easy (probably my favourite) Tim Paige’s Conversion Cast Soulful PR with Janet Murray School of Greatness with Lewis Howes In the second half of 2015, I increased my running goal to 4 sessions per week. I’ve gone from never being able to run, to running around 20 kilometres a week. Now, that’s not to say that I’m fast, or even great at it. But I do it and I feel healthier for it and I’m learning something new every single time. So I’d love you think about getting hip with technology, and starting to expand your business learning with podcasts. If you’re not sure now to do it, I’ve put a little tutorial on my website and I’ll link to it on this episode’s notes. If you’ve found this information useful, come join the Bringing Business To Retail community. We’re a bunch of retailers chatting all things business. Best of all, it’s free. Podcasts That Will Help Your Business Grow Until next week Be profitable ps, if you need to know how to get access to a podcast, watch my cool little video. It's not hard, I promise!
This episode contains inspiration and proof of how we can all get to our fulfilled place. Believing we are not destined to live the script someone else wrote for us, is empowering. A Special Quote for Cathy When the pressure is on and you are all alone take a little ride into the Danger Zone. When the moon is up and the skies are clear just show me a sign and we’ll be outta here. Take me up on a wing and a prayer if you need a friend you know I’ll be there. Your time has come, you can stand or you can run but don’t keep it all inside ‘cause you gotta understand that there ain’t no second chance. No one gets out of here alive only the strong survive. - “Only the Strong Survive” by Bryan Adams Goodbye Old Life, I Am Going on an Adventure Cathy Plotnick mistakenly got married instead of pursuing something she wanted to pursue. She always thought she would go to Japan to teach English but then she found herself married to the wrong guy. It turns out he had anger issues and Cathy was compelled to secretly open a private bank account, and then to make her escape. She quit her sheltered government job and rented a storage unit for her belongings. She left very shortly after for Korea where, without intending to, she lived for four years and where she met her husband in an expat watering hole. Jewelry, Candles and Tea Although Cathy wanted to work, she couldn’t legally do so until after she received her US green card because she is a Canadian. It was only after a move to Minnesota that she started looking at direct selling opportunities. It started with a jewelry party invitation and then she found her next career experiment in selling candles and then finally she fell in love with selling tea - not just any tea, Steeped Tea. Surround Yourself with People who are Supportive To move past the script her family had written for her when she was younger, she needed to bring positive people into her life. She joined the Polka Dot Powerhouse Community, an all-female business networking sisterhood. She enlisted a coach to help her recognize her inherent qualities and to push her beyond her pre-existing business knowledge. One important thing she uncovered was that it pays to pay attention to the numbers. As Soon as I Learned I was #2, I Wanted to Become #1 When Cathy started achieving sales and accolades she thought “What can I accomplish if I were to work intentionally towards a goal?” She was doing so well that the Founder of Steeped Tea brought her on stage to announce that she was #2 in the US in sales and recruitment. Cathy immediately went after the #1 position, which she attained; and she has since become a Senior Group Leader in the organization. Cathy believes negativity is poison and having positive people in your life is the key to obtaining your dreams. A Shout Out to Ken Cathy’s father, Ken wore a giant belt buckle with his name on it and for that we salute him! LifeFight Segment 025: Why we overeatJust the other day I was explaining to Rebekah how I had eaten so much popcorn, candy, ice cream etc… in one sitting while watching a couple of movies that I made myself sick! I felt like I was about to puke at any moment AND moreover, I WANTED to puke. Now here’s the catch… I didn’t want to puke so I could feel better… I wanted to puke so I could continue to eat more! Yes, me. Now don’t sweat me too much because I’m sure you’ve probably been there a couple of times yourself. But this almost gluttonous moment in my life helped me to realize a new enemy that we had all better learn to stand up to. And that enemy is called, “Overeating!” This is why I felt it was so important to do this podcast on “Why we overeat.” Overeating is becoming an epidemic in America opposite of other countries whose food epidemics usually stem from starvation or “undereating”. Now of course we know that one of the reasons that we overeat is because our food is easy for us to acquire. We don’t have to hunt, grow or harvest anything! It all sits on a shelf just waiting for us to trade slips of paper for it. I personally feel that this process desensitizes us from appreciating a lot of the food that we can easily buy. We take it for granted which can easily lead to our neglect. In this LifeFight segment, “Why we overeat”, I give 7 reasons as to why we can’t seem to stop from converting our spoons, and forks into shovels whenever we’re around food. I feel that we all need to control our overeating and the first step is to know “why” we do it. Here are some of the reasons.Boredom is a big factor in our overeating. When the mind isn’t occupied with tasks it easily steers towards food. Boredom is one of the worse experiences that we encounter as human beings, and we have learned how to battle it with food! No more boring work conventions or weekends at grandmas, because food will be there! So understanding that you may be overeating when you’re bored, offers you some insight that could help you to control this behavior. Find something to do when you’re bored so your mind doesn’t shift to food!Peer pressure from family, friends, co-workers and even bosses can be a big part of your overeating. If you’re attending lots of business functions that are always catered heavily with food, this may be your vice. If some of your surrounding buddies are dedicated overeaters, they are going to be sure to always include you in the duty as they overstuff themselves. And definitely beware the baking grandmother or mother who may have you confused with Hansel & Gretel. This can be a hard battle because your family, friends, and possibly even boss could feel insulted when you don’t eat the cooking that they put their heart and soul or money into. Visual attraction is another reason “Why we overeat”. Food companies load their products up with food coloring, carnauba wax, a ½ naked woman and anything else that can convince you to want it for any other reason than simply the taste of it. And if you’re doubting me I want you to think about how tasty the following items appear: Cupcakes; Jelly Beans; Ice Cream; Birthday Cake; Cotton Candy. Now all of these things are basically the same forms of everyday sugar, but the colors and decorations make us want to gobble them down more than we would if they were just brown or white. Now of course I know that you know that it is my job to do more than just “inform” you of your enemies who make you overeat. I will also educate you on how to defeat them! But you have to listen to the podcast to get that info. But fret not! It’s FREE for you to listen! See. You never have to worry because…Now, I’m your corner!

As I prepared to drop in for the show for some soulful reflection and deep medicine, I was both restless and hesitant. Ready and anxious. When I woke up that morning, I thought I had nothing to share with you. No edge to work, no epiphanies to relate. And then… as I surrendered to the quietness of the spaces in between… dropped out of the head and into the unknowing - our medicine for the week presented itself front and center with no room for uncertainty. No wiggle room allowed.Of course, it wasn’t what I WANTED to talk about. It wasn’t even something I have figured out. I’ve only just begun exploring it.I am by no means an expert on healing this wound, but I am a very willing student to the wisdom of its lesson. As a life long, Lone Wolf, I’ve built my identity around resilience and radical self responsibility. I’ve never cared much about what other people thought and even less about such seemingly frivolous endeavors as nurturing friendships. I’ve constructed convincing stories about people not “getting me,” and about being too energetically sensitive to be involved with most other humans.I’ve used my work and my fire for my purpose as a way to separate myself from personal relationships and located myself in a town, and in a state that couldn’t be less aligned with who and what I am.I’ve invalidated the loving support of those closest to me who show up with such unconditional love and service.I’ve done everything I can to insure that Aloneness is the badge of honor I wear with pride and with grief.I also simultaneously LONG for healing. I desire intimacy and connection. I crave love and being known at the deepest levels of my Essence. What lies between one and the other feels like a gaping chasm of uncertainty. I have no idea where to begin. Only the knowing that I must.On our show, we discussed the pain and the power of the Lone Wolf and energetically felt for a crack in the armor. We navigated the illusions and shone a light toward the truth that called Us.Here are a few highlights: 7:09 My story as a Portal into YOUR story 15:21 My deepest longing revealed 17:54 Honoring the gifts of the Lone Wolf 26:11 "Our exterior world is just a manifestation of our interior energetic set-up" 32:37 Listening to the Medicine of your Own Wolf 47:50 What moved me to tearsThere is deep medicine here for all of us. Even if you believe you are not this. The Lone Wolf disguises herself in many ways and she is cunning in her deception.Let’s honor her gifts together as we make our way back Home.
