When life brings unexpected trials, it can feel like our strength, hope, and even our faith are beginning to fail. Psalm 73 reminds us that even when our flesh and hearts grow weak, God remains the strength that sustains us. He does not promise a life free from hardship, but He promises His presence through every valley we walk. Highlights: God remains our strength when our hearts and circumstances feel overwhelming Trials are a reality of living in a broken world, but God promises to walk with us through them True comfort comes from drawing near to God and trusting His presence God provides wisdom, peace, and guidance when we feel unable to move forward Even difficult seasons can reveal God’s faithfulness and deepen our dependence on Him Join the Conversation Have you experienced a time when God reminded you that He saw your pain, needs, or circumstances? You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me into glory. Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever… it is good to be near God. I have made the Sovereign LORD my refuge; I will tell of all your deeds.” Ps. 73:22-28 (NIV) Have you ever been through an unexpected trial and felt as if your heart and your flesh are failing? Where do you turn when the circumstances are so overwhelming, so oppressive, that it feels as if any and all physical strength has been drained out? Normal stamina and rigor seem to be completely absent, leaving you utterly exhausted from the simplest daily tasks. And if that isn’t challenging enough, your heart follows suit and struggles to carry the weight of your unwelcome burdens. Unfortunately, we all face hardships, disappointments, and at times even devastation. While the Bible is full of God’s promises, unending love, and hope for the future, it is also clear that sin and suffering are ever-present realities in this world. The consequences of these can wreak havoc on our hearts and minds. Our Heavenly Father understood this from the moment sin entered the world and forever changed the landscape of all of our lives. He made provision through His only Son to pay the penalty for sin, but that payment does not shield us from encountering heartbreak. While we cannot evade challenging and hurtful circumstances, God promises to walk side-by-side with us as we take every step through the valley. I don’t know where you find yourself today. Perhaps you are in a sweet season of joy and abundance. If so, I celebrate with you. Treasure the good gifts God has bestowed upon you during this time. But if you are facing a season of struggle, then I empathize and offer my deepest condolences. Today, I find myself wandering through yet another desert, confused, conflicted, and in desperate need of holy consolation. Yet even in this, I know God is still granting me “good” gifts, even if nothing about it feels “good.” There really are times when there is nothing here on earth that can satisfy or bring true comfort. Loved ones can be present, be a listening ear, and provide some measure of relief, but only the Lord can reach those dark caverns of our souls when the heart fails. He assures us that He is always with us, no matter how crushed and lost we feel. When we feel like we cannot possibly take one more step, He guides us with His counsel. He provides supernatural wisdom for the hard decisions we may have to make and a peace that surpasses all understanding. Though the wind and the waves may buffet our sails, the Lord declares, “Peace, be still.” As the Lord fulfills every one of these promises, He is granting us good gifts. He is demonstrating His unfailing love as He draws us closer to Him. God reveals Himself to us as we seek refuge in Him and in Him alone. We can trust Him. On the other side of the cross is resurrection. On the other side of whatever hardships and hurts you are facing today, there is glory. Will you join me today, as we remind ourselves of God’s goodness and promises shared in Psalm 73:22-28? “…I am always with you; you hold me by my right hand. You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me into glory. Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever… it is good to be near God. I have made the Sovereign LORD my refuge; I will tell of all your deeds.” (NIV) Intersecting Faith & Life: Are there circumstances in your life right now that have threatened to overtake your faith and peace? Do you feel as if your heart has failed? If so, how does today’s scripture offer you hope? Even if the pain and disappointment feel unbearable, can you sense God’s presence in the midst of all you are going through? Regardless of where you find yourself today, I pray that God’s faithfulness is evident in your life, and you can declare with me, “It is good to be near God.” Further Reading:Hebrews 13:5John 16:33 Discover more Christian podcasts at lifeaudio.com and inquire about advertising opportunities at lifeaudio.com/contact-us.

Conner Bible Reading:Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. - 1 Peter 4:8 (NIV) Relationships of all kinds can be a challenge. The Bible says God created us for community, for family, for friendships, yet often the dynamics involved in these connections can be incredibly complicated. If relationships are the design of the Lord for our lives, why do they seem so incredibly difficult to navigate? The answer… one single word… sin. At the root of all sin is selfishness. It is the desire and longing for “what I want” above all else, and often, those decisions can be harmful to those around us. They can also be harmful to our relationship with our Heavenly Father. All the way back in the Garden of Eden, we see the first choice of sin – of selfishness. “When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it,” (Genesis 3:6, NIV). Though God clearly said Adam and Eve were not to eat the fruit from the tree in the middle of the garden, they felt otherwise. The couple desired to take what the Lord advised them to abstain from; they intentionally chose their own way. They chose themselves. But their choices didn’t just affect them individually; they affected their relationship with one another. As soon as their decision was revealed, the first marital argument ensued, including everyone’s favorite, “the blame game.” Their unity was negatively impacted as a result of their choices. Additionally, their relationship with the Lord was also altered by their pursuit of self. Those consequences were much more significant than a marital tiff, as they were cast out of the garden, could no longer reside within the physical presence of God, would later experience mortal death, and the legacy of sin they initiated would pass on from generation to generation. Sin and selfishness caused some major long-term ripples in this scenario, but thankfully, that is not the end of their story or ours. Love covered a multitude of sins. The Heavenly Father made provision for Adam and Eve in the form of a sacrifice to cover their sin and then gave the ultimate sacrifice of His One and Only Son to forever redeem us all from the penalty of transgression. It is because of this great love that was offered to us first, while we were yet sinners (Rom. 5:8), that we are called to love one another through the failings, disagreements, and hurt feelings. It can feel so incredibly unfair when we are called to forgive the wrongdoings of others, but how different it looks when we are the offender in need of pardon. While every situation is different and there are circumstances where forgiveness needs to be applied, but not necessarily reconciliation at that moment, God’s call to us is clear. “If possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone,” (Rom. 12:18, NIV). Though our emotions can get stirred up when “iron sharpens iron” in our relationships, and there are disagreements and deep hurts, the Lord has called us to love one another. It is amazing how quickly a heated situation is diffused when love and humility are applied. May we follow in Jesus’ footsteps and extend mercy and grace to those who have wronged us - for love covers a multitude of sin. Intersecting Faith & Life: Are you struggling with disagreements or discord within your relationships? Is there a particular person or scenario that is particularly painful? Perhaps you are the offender in the situation and long for forgiveness from those you have harmed. Regardless of where you find yourself, may I encourage you, maybe even challenge you, to take a moment and reflect on how God’s unending grace and mercy have been applied to your life. Ask yourself, how has He covered a multitude of your sins? If you are willing, jot down a list of the moments when it was evident the Lord extended forgiveness to you. In light of His great love, ask the Lord to soften your heart towards those who have harmed you. I pray you follow in His footsteps and learn how to lead with love. Honoring mothers is deeply connected to honoring God’s design, care, and provision for our lives. In 1 Timothy 2:15, Scripture highlights the sacred role of motherhood and reminds us that God values faith, love, holiness, and perseverance within it. In a culture that often minimizes motherhood or focuses only on parental imperfections, this devotional calls believers back to a biblical perspective of gratitude, forgiveness, and honor. Highlights God commands us to honor our fathers and mothers as an act of obedience. Motherhood is a sacred calling established by God. Many mothers carry hidden struggles while doing their best to raise their children. Honoring mothers reflects our reverence and obedience toward God. Forgiveness may be necessary in strained mother-child relationships. Scripture emphasizes faith, love, holiness, and perseverance in motherhood. Choosing honor over resentment brings healing and glorifies God. Have an idea for our newsletter? We want to hear from you! Take our survey below: Take Our Survey! Do you want to listen ad-free? Full Transcript Below: Honoring God by Honoring Our Mothers By Lynette Kittle Bible Reading: “But women will be saved through childbearing—if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety.” - 1Timothy 2:15 It seems like these days many women are resisting the call to motherhood and forgoing having children. At the same time, bitterness towards mothers is also on the rise, with too many adult children resenting their mothers’ noble yet imperfect attempts at mothering, looking at their flaws and weaknesses more than their strengths and sacrifices. But even if the world turns its back on mothers and motherhood, believers in Jesus Christ are called to embrace motherhood and honor their mothers, respecting God’s design and plan for motherhood, and the place of honor He has given them on earth. God cares about how we treat, speak to, and speak about our mothers and mothers-in-law. It matters to Him because, as His family, it reflects on Him how we treat and speak about them. As the Apostle Paul explained in Ephesians 6:2-3, “‘Honor your father and mother’—which is the first commandment with a promise—so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.” So grave was it under Old Testament law to dishonor one’s mother and father that it brought deathly punishment. “Anyone who curses their father or mother is to be put to death” (Exodus 21:17). Even if our mothers have totally failed us, God calls us to forgive them and to recognize the God-ordained sacredness of them carrying us to life in their own bodies. Author and speaker Joyce Meyers shares how her mother failed to protect her growing up from her father’s sexual abuse. In many ways, she found it harder to forgive her mother than her father. Still, in her parents’ later years, God called Joyce to care for them, something she initially resisted. But even for mothers who have totally failed us in life, God calls us to honor Him by honoring them, even if they don’t deserve it. Most women begin motherhood with little to no experience, learning and growing as they go, starting out as greenhorns and discovering along the way how to handle the endless hours of motherhood’s tremendous responsibilities. Too many women enter motherhood with unaddressed and often unknown issues in their own lives, revealing underlying weaknesses and issues they may have no real understanding of or skill to handle. Because it is a trial-and-error sort of relationship, sadly, some mothers feel like failures long before their children grow up and point fingers at their mothering deficiencies. Still, even in their weaknesses and failures, and regardless of their struggles and faults, mothers are treasured and loved by God. We are commanded to honor the position God has given them on the earth. As ons and daughters, God calls us to honor Him by honoring our mothers. Doing so is an act of obedience and glorifies God. Intersecting Faith & Life: Are you honoring your mother this year? What about your mother-in-law? If you’re finding it difficult to do so for various reasons, ask God to help you honor Him by honoring them this Mother’s Day. As well, if you’ve disrespected them in the past, ask for their forgiveness so you can begin anew in your relationship with them. Corporate prayer and national repentance have shaped history, and Scripture like Jonah 3:10 reveals how God responds when people turn to Him together. Praying as a nation isn’t symbolic—it’s a powerful, biblical practice that invites God’s mercy, guidance, and restoration. This devotional highlights how God has consistently responded to unified, humble prayer—from the city of Nineveh to moments in American history. When people come together, set aside differences, and seek God collectively, it reflects dependence on Him rather than self-sufficiency. National prayer isn’t about politics or performance—it’s about hearts aligning with God, turning from sin, and trusting Him to lead, heal, and sustain a nation. Just as individuals are called to pray, communities and countries are invited to do the same. Highlights God responds to corporate prayer and genuine repentance Biblical examples show entire cities and nations turning to God together Unity in prayer reflects humility and dependence on God National prayer invites God’s mercy, healing, and direction Spiritual battles require spiritual responses—not just physical solutions Setting aside differences for prayer strengthens collective faith Do you want to listen ad-free? Full Transcript Below: Why Praying As a Nation Matters to God By Lynette Kittle Bible Reading: “When God saw what they did and how they turned from their evil ways, He relented and did not bring on them the destruction He had threatened.” - Jonah 3:10 As America celebrates 250 years as a nation, some ask, does it matter if our nation prays together on the National Day of Prayer? Does God even pay attention to or hear us when we pray corporately as a nation? The answer is “yes”: it matters to God, and we can be assured of this because the Bible provides plenty of evidence that He often calls us to corporate prayer for a city or a nation. Most of us are familiar with the well-known biblical passage 2 Chronicles 7:14, which says, “If My people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” As in the story of Jonah and the wicked city of Nineveh, God called for the entire city to pray and repent, and even the animals were included in the city’s prayer, fasting, and repentance. As Jonah 3:4-8 describes, God led an entire city to repentance through corporate prayer: “Jonah began by going a day’s journey into the city, proclaiming, ‘Forty more days and Nineveh will be overthrown.’ The Ninevites believed God. A fast was proclaimed, and all of them, from the greatest to the least, put on sackcloth. When Jonah’s warning reached the king of Nineveh, he rose from his throne, took off his royal robes, covered himself with sackcloth and sat down in the dust. This is the proclamation he issued in Nineveh: ‘By the decree of the king and his nobles: Do not let people or animals, herds or flocks, taste anything; do not let them eat or drink. But let people and animals be covered with sackcloth. Let everyone call urgently on God. Let them give up their evil ways and their violence. Who knows? God may yet relent and with compassion turn from His fierce anger so that we will not perish.” In Jonah 3:10, we read of God’s gracious response to their corporate prayer: He relented rather than sending destruction. Likewise, looking back at America’s Founders, we see that they recognized the importance of corporate prayer and that establishing a nation’s future doesn’t just involve fighting a physical battle for victory, but also a spiritual one. They demonstrated this when they officially met and came together for the first time on September 7, 1774, as the Continental Congress of the United States, opening with prayer and the reading of Psalm 35 by Rev. Jacob Duché, which begins with, “Contend, Lord, with those who contend with me; fight against those who fight against me.” This was no easy feat, either, as the outspoken members had to set aside their denominational differences to pray together, uniting members who were Congregationalists, Anglicans, Quakers, Dutch Reformed, Baptists, Lutherans, Puritans, and Presbyterians, coming together to overlook their differences, joining in one accord, praying for a common goal. American Conservative radio talk-show host and writer, Dennis Prager, explains, “Ultimately, they wanted people to be free to practice their religion and relate to God in their own way. They all knew God is the source of liberty.” Providence Forum Executive Director Dr. Jerry Newcombe points out how historians find in George Washington’s writings and actions during the Revolutionary War that he relied heavily on prayer, believing that with the tremendous odds set against them, victory could only come with God’s help. As well, “The Great Awakening absolutely helped the cause of independence,” writes Newcombe. “Even before the Great Awakening, the ministers, especially the ones from New England, helped shape the thinking of the Colonists as to their God-given rights.” Christian historians believe the spread of “The Great Awakening” across the colonies greatly influenced and strengthened Patriot leaders leading up to the signing of the Declaration of Independence, during which prayer and fasting played a critical role in helping America establish its freedom. In Miracles in American History, author, historian, and speaker William J. Federer writes about the many national calls to prayer leading up to and throughout the formation of the United States of America. Intersecting Faith & Life:Are you planning to join our nation in praying for God’s divine guidance and protection over our country? If not, consider praying with millions of believers across our land who will be praying together during this year’s 250th Anniversary, National Day of Prayer. Breaking free from people-pleasing and the fear of man starts with one truth—Proverbs 29:25 shows that trusting God leads to peace, while seeking approval from others leads to anxiety and exhaustion. When our identity is tied to what others think, we get stuck in cycles of overthinking, second-guessing, and striving for approval that never fully satisfies. Real freedom comes when we shift our focus from people to God. Instead of replaying conversations or trying to manage others’ perceptions, we can rest in the truth that our worth is already secure in Him. Living for an “audience of One” brings clarity, confidence, and peace—because God’s love isn’t earned through performance, it’s already given. When we trust Him fully, we’re no longer trapped by others’ opinions but grounded in His unchanging truth. Highlights Fear of man leads to anxiety, overthinking, and insecurity People-pleasing keeps you stuck in a cycle of striving Your identity is not defined by others’ opinions God already knows, loves, and accepts you fully Shifting focus from self to God brings freedom Living for an “audience of One” creates peace and clarity Trusting God breaks the trap of performance and perfectionism Do you want to listen ad-free? Conner Bible Reading:“Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the LORD is kept safe.” - Proverbs 29:25 (NIV) If there is one thing in life I constantly wrestle with, it is the fear of man. I am a natural people-pleaser through and through. I cannot even count how many endless nights of sleep I have lost, or the infinite number of hours I have wasted away in worry over what other people think of me. If I feel that I have upset someone or failed them in some way, I will recite and rehearse the conversation or interaction over and over in my head. I will think through every possible scenario in which I could have handled things differently. Then, I will go through all of the ways I can repair the damage or change their impression of me. I agonize over possible resolutions. Perhaps I should go apologize… Or maybe if I get another friend to go and champion my cause, that would help change their minds… Round and round I go with no reprieve. Does any of this sound familiar to you? What is so ridiculous about this whole ordeal is that, more than likely, I am the only person obsessing over the situation. Is it possible that someone does think poorly of me, maybe even seriously dislikes me, because of a comment or decision I made? Yes, absolutely. But is it also possible that they had their moment of irritation and have moved on, while I am over here wallowing in worry? Yes – 100%. Yet more often than not, I can’t seem to break free from this train of thought. Even further, once I have suffered through one of these unpleasant disappointments, I become fearful of future interactions. I become more reserved and careful. Over time, I retreat into my shell of self-protection and either avoid interactions with others as much as possible or I present a masked version of my real self when in public to safeguard my tender heart. What a mess, right? How can we obtain hope and freedom when we find ourselves trapped in the bondage of people-pleasing? First, we need to look past ourselves. It is a shockingly simple solution, but one we often fail to recognize. If you skim through the previous paragraphs, you will notice one very clear theme. It is all about ME. There is no mention of the Lord in those circumstances; just my own thoughts, my own hurt and rejection, my own solutions to my projected problems. As elementary as it sounds, our emotions can easily override our faith and our dependence on the One who provides all that we need. Our Heavenly Father sees us as perfect and worthy just as we are. He is the One who formed us perfectly in our mother’s wombs (Ps. 139:13). He knows the number of hairs on our heads (Matt. 10:30). That is how intimately He knows and loves us. We are His precious children. We are loved (1 John 3:1). God is not asking you or me to be perfect. He knows we are sinners. He knows we are going to make mistakes (lots of them). And He knows there will be plenty of times when our interactions with others will be a struggle. There will be people who dislike us, maybe even go out of their way to speak badly about us. Whether their comments and opinions are justified or not, God does not want us to be ruled by what others think about us. If left unchecked, our attempts to please others can damage our faith and even hurt those closest to us as we prioritize working for the acceptance and praise of others while sacrificing those we love most. At the end of the day, our goal should be to please our audience of One. His regard is the only one that should hold such a place of priority in our lives. If we spend our lives fearing man, we will remain caught in the snares of performance and perfectionism. There is no rest there. There is no peace. However, if we trust in the Lord, He will provide all we need (Phil. 4:19). We will be kept safe. “Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the LORD is kept safe.” - Proverbs 29:25 (NIV) Intersecting Faith & Life: Are you someone who struggles with people-pleasing? Do you worry about what others think of you? If so, how does today’s scripture offer you freedom or encouragement? If you find yourself caught in one of these cycles, take some time today to write down or pray through your cares. Express all of your frustration, hurt, and worry. Release it to the Lord and then leave it with Him. You are worthy and loved just as you are. You do not need to prove that to others - simply rest in Him. There’s something powerful about anticipation. When you know something wonderful is ahead—a long-awaited trip, a celebration, a reunion—you carry that joy with you before it even arrives. It changes how you move through ordinary days. Psalm 31:19 reminds us that we don’t have to manufacture excitement or engineer constant highlights to feel hope. God already has good stored up for His children. His goodness isn’t random, fragile, or dependent on our planning. It is abundant, intentional, and secure. The beauty of faith is this: even when we cannot see the details of what’s ahead, we know the character of the One who holds tomorrow. And that is more than enough reason for joy. Key Scripture “How abundant are the good things that you have stored up for those who fear you, that you bestow in the sight of all, on those who take refuge in you.” — Psalm 31:19 Highlights Anticipation shapes our perspective—even before the blessing arrives God’s goodness isn’t limited to heaven; He blesses us here and now Our plans are fragile, but God’s promises are faithful We can hold joy in the unknown because we know God’s character The goodness God has stored up surpasses what we could imagine for ourselves Intersecting Faith & Life Are you constantly trying to create something to look forward to? Not in specific ways like I once did, anyway. I used to have this dream of being suddenly and spontaneously whisked away on a tropical getaway. With bags pre-packed, child-care pre-planned, and every detail prepared. That is, until I went on enough planned vacations and experienced all the extra enjoyment that’s front-loaded in the anticipation of the known good to come. Think about it. It’s extremely hard to get excited about something awesome you have no idea is about to happen. But if you know the grand plan that’s ahead, you can hold great hope. You can even make it through the mundane and monotonous moments of life while your eyes feast on the beauty and sparkle that dangle in front of you. And for this reason, I’ve been overly guilty of always attempting to have something fun planned in order to consistently have something to look forward to. But honestly, I’m not super proud of this heart posture. And here’s why. I know God is good. I know he has given me good on this very day. I know he is faithful and will continue to show up with good gifts in every single season of my life. And so I know I should be holding tighter to these truths. How about you? Do you like surprises? Or would you prefer to know what’s coming so you can enjoy the anticipation? Maybe you’ll take either, you just like any reason to smile and celebrate. I get that too. Well, what if we could approach every day like we know vacation is coming tomorrow? What if we knew that what was ahead was going to be fantastic and full of blessings? And what if I told you, it’s true. Because it is. The Bible promises that God has good in store for us, for those who love him. There is indeed beauty and sparkle ahead. We can be confident in that. We can get excited about that. Because it most definitely and abundantly is true. I know you can’t always see and perceive it. But honestly, I can’t actually see the exact sweetness that will show up in my upcoming vacations either. I can dream up scenarios. But to be honest, sometimes it’s not as good as what I dreamed of. My human hopes are flimsy and fallible, and they fail me. And whatever you can create or plan or try to control to your liking is unreliable and lacks certain goodness, too. But our faith shouldn’t be in the good we can manifest and make happen; our faith should be in the unfailing goodness of our mighty and good God. And what’s amazing about God is that what he has in store is even better than what we have dreamed up. Because His plans and ways are good and perfect and always more full of blessing than ours. I was almost out of gas. My heart sighed. The to-do list for the day felt never-ending. Life was really hard for our family. During seasons of busyness, I find myself running like a car on an empty tank of gas. Hardships faced everyone. Maybe you are facing sickness, loneliness, grief, fear, or even depression today. How do we continue to hold everything together when we run out of energy? The beautiful truth of the Bible is that we do not keep running and running by ourselves. Spiritually, emotionally, and even physically, we are not asked to endure everything on our own. We are not alone. God’s love comes with a promise. In the Book of Deuteronomy, we read some of Moses’ last words to the people. Before recounting the laws and telling them how to live, Moses reminded them of God’s love for them: “And you saw in the wilderness how the Lord your God carried you as a man carries his son all along the way you traveled until you reached this place” (Deuteronomy 1:31 CSB). Good fathers carry their sons because of their love for them. Sometimes human fathers fail. Maybe you didn’t have a good father. Friend, if you are a Christian, God is your Father. This imagery is woven throughout the entire Bible. A good father will care for and love his son. I can remember my husband carrying each of our children up the stairs to bed every night when they were young. This type of carrying we see here is one of deep and lasting love. Notice that God carried the people in the wilderness, along a very uncertain road. No matter what they faced, famine, thirst, and enemies, God carried them each and every step. You and I have the comfort that God, as our Father, will carry us through life. God isn’t just there for guidance; He lifts us up and bears the weight of this life with us. When life gets too heavy, God carries us like a Father. Not only does God’s love carry us now, it also does so throughout our entire lives. The prophet Isaiah warns the people against running to their idols for safety. He says: I [God] will be the same until your old age,and I will bear you up when you turn gray.I have made you, and I will carry you;I will bear and rescue you. - Isaiah 46:4 (CSB) Notice the time span. From birth… to old age… to gray hairs. The older I get, the more I realize that my strength from twenty years ago just isn’t the same now that I’m in my forties. It doesn’t matter what our physical bodies are capable of; God’s love is a love that lasts throughout our whole life! God tells the Israelites, “I have made you and carried you.” No matter what happens, God will bear us up and rescue us. God’s love is not seasonal or situational. It does not withdraw as we age. It never weakens or changes. The one who created us commits Himself to carry us all the way through our lives. The idea of God carrying us is not just in the Old Testament. In the New Testament, we see this repeated as well. One of the most powerful examples of this is found in the book of Colossians. Paul says that Christ is not just our Savior, but our sustainer: “For in him [Jesus] all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together” (Colossians 1:16-17 CSB). Notice the phrase, “in him all things hold together.” Jesus Christ is the reason the universe is still running! Christ is beside God on the throne in Heaven, keeping our world going. He carries all of creation, but that also means you and me! All things include you, me, and the details of our lives. The power Christ has to sustain us is beyond our ability to understand. We can rest, you and I, today, that God’s love carries us personally, patiently, and powerfully! Intersecting Faith & Life: Where might you have been trying to carry burdens God never intended you to bear alone? I want to encourage you today that God’s love does not demand strength from us; it supplies it. You are not held together by your own effort - but by Christ! Joy at Christmas can feel distant, but Luke 2:10 reminds us that God brings “good news of great joy for all people”—a promise still alive and powerful today. This devotional explores how joy is expressed, shared, lived, and cultivated so believers can reflect the hope and goodness of Jesus throughout the Christmas season. Whether joy comes naturally or feels a bit rusty, Scripture offers practical ways to embrace God’s presence and spread joy in everyday moments. Highlights Why joy is central to the Christmas message Four practical ways to express, share, live, and cultivate joy How joy becomes contagious through words, actions, and attitudes The connection between God’s presence and lasting joy Scriptures that anchor a joyful mindset (Luke 2:10, Psalm 21:6, Psalm 16:11, John 15:11–12, Galatians 5:22) Simple ways to nurture joy in others A reminder that joy is our inheritance in Christ Gift Inspiration: Crosswalk's Holiday Gift Guide Looking for a meaningful way to celebrate the season? Full Transcript Below: Spreading Joy Throughout the Christmas Season By Lynette Kittle Bible Reading: “But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.” - Luke 2:10 Great joy for all the people! What truly remarkable, good news for all of us down through the ages: an announcement thousands of years ago, still relevant today. Yet, how many millions of people around the world are missing out on experiencing this great joy, not just at Christmas, but their entire lives? How do we, like the angels, proclaim and spread this great joy throughout the Christmas season and all year round? What can we do to express it, share it, live it, and cultivate it in others’ lives, too? Expressing, Sharing, Living, and Cultivating Joy Because God calls us to joy, the following are four ways we can spread it while experiencing it for ourselves. Express our joy. How do individuals express joy? Many smile, some laugh, others clap, and there are those who jump for joy. Sadly, some Christians hold their joy in, perhaps feeling it on the inside, but it doesn’t make its way outward, causing some of the Christian sayings and critiques, such as “the frozen chosen.” As a child, I loved singing the kids’ song, “I’ve got the joy, joy, joy,” over and over again. We would sing “I’ve got the joy, joy, joy, joy down in my heart!” Then we would follow it by shouting “where” and then respond by singing in reply “Down in my heart.” Just singing it brought joy to us and those listening. However we express joy, we want to make sure to let it out, so others might experience it too, and also to share the joyous message of Christmas that can be their own for a lifetime. Share our joy. Many of us don’t realize that joy is spreadable - it’s contagious and easily passed from one person to another. Just as we can sing songs that get stuck in others’ heads when they hear us singing, so too can joy be shared with one another. We can share joy simply by the way we look at the world, our situations, and those around us, letting the joy that comes from knowing God guide our words and actions. As Psalm 21:6 describes, “Surely you have granted him unending blessings and made him glad with the joy of Your presence.” Live our joy. We can wake up in the morning with joy, even before anything has happened in our day yet. Before we even lift our heads from the pillows each morning, we can experience joy daily in our lives because the source of it is not ourselves, but God. As Psalm 16:11 reminds us, “You make known to me the path of life; You will fill me with joy in Your presence, with eternal pleasures at Your right hand.” A way to live in God’s joy is described in John 15:11-12, “If you keep my commands, you will remain in My love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in His love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.” Cultivate joy in others. If we ask, God will lead us to cultivate joy in the lives of those around us. We may not know how to nurture it in others, but God can show us how, because He knows what it takes to help it grow in those around us. As Galatians 5:22 describes, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” Just the way we speak and interact with others gives us opportunities to cultivate joy in their lives by expressing, sharing, and living it out in our own. Intersecting Faith & Life: Are you known for your joy? If not, take stock and ask God why not? See what’s holding you back from enjoying the great joy that is ours through Jesus Christ. Megan J. Conner explores persistent prayer and Godward confidence through Matthew 7:7. When needs feel unmet or dreams stall, the reset isn’t louder striving—it’s steady asking, seeking, and knocking with a anchored heart. This passage reads like a promise and a gentle nudge off the couch of casual expectation. Highlights Ask: Bring the need. Name it clearly to God before narrating it to yourself. Seek: Prayer moves feet too—watch for the open door and walk toward it. Knock: Keep going. Persistence is faith’s cardio, not its enemy. God isn’t hiding gifts like misplaced keys—He responds to pursuit. Peace grows when petitions are paired with trust, even before answers arrive. Delay doesn’t equal denial; sometimes it equals development. One small prayer whispered daily outlasts one big prayer yelled annually. Conner Bible Reading:“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” - Matthew 7:7 (NIV) Do you feel like there are needs in your life, or desires in your heart that remain unfulfilled? Perhaps you are longing for a change of circumstances, in need of tangible provision, or losing hope over a lingering, neglected dream. Maybe you wonder if God is aware of these aspirations and is intentionally choosing to deny your desires. But before you assume the Lord is uninterested, ask yourself, have you brought these cares to Him? The Word of God repeatedly offers us invitation after invitation to bring our concerns and requests to the Lord. Philippians 4:6 encourages us not to be “… anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present our requests to God,” (NIV). When worries feel weighty, we can bring these feelings of overwhelm to the Lord. He is not standing far off, but instead is ready and waiting for us to call upon Him. Hebrews 4:14-16 also reminds us how Jesus walked among humanity, and not only empathizes with our weaknesses and desires, but He fully understands. As such, we can “approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need,” (NIV). The Lord is not only able, but ready and willing to offer comfort and provision. Even further, He reminds us that when we take delight in Him, He will give us the desire of our hearts (Ps. 37:4). Friend, God is not withholding good gifts from you, but you and I both have a part to play in the process. Years ago, my husband shared a teaching on today’s passage. Though his message was preached almost fifteen years ago, it is one that has remained with me to this day. Through his study, I learned that if we look closely, this scripture offers three distinct directives: ask, seek, knock. “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.” (Matt. 7:7, NKJV). The true message of this passage is one of perseverance. In today’s on-demand, instant fulfillment culture, we have lost a measure of determined persistence. When something doesn’t work out as planned, it is much easier for us to just sit down, give up, or walk away. But the Lord is calling us to stretch ourselves beyond our supposed boundaries. To fight for what we desire and to fight for our relationship with Him. He is not denying us. He is compelling us to exert effort, not sit idly by with casual expectation. He is calling us to action. Ask. If that doesn’t work, then seek. If seeking remains elusive, knock. He promises He will respond. The passage goes on to say, “or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!” (Matt. 7:7-11, NKJV). Our Heavenly Father truly is a good father. He longs to behold and bless His children. He is simply waiting for us to take the initiative. To ask… to seek… to knock. Intersecting Faith & Life: Are you carrying unfulfilled desires in your heart? Do you feel like God is distant or intentionally denying you a potential destiny? If so, ask yourself, when was the last time you brought these petitions to the Lord? Even if your dreams have remained dormant for years, I encourage you, continue to bring your requests to Him. Though the final outcome may not be exactly what you had in mind, you can be assured that He hears your plea and will respond when you call. Take some time today to look up the dictionary definition of the word “perseverance.” Then, consider if your actions or communications with the Lord exemplify perseverance. Is there any room for adjustments or improvements? If so, ask the Lord to help you draw near to Him, trusting that whatever the outcome, His work in your life is ultimately for your good and is fulfilling your deepest desires. Gratitude shifts when attention moves from missing things to present gifts from God. Kelly Balarie frames this reset through Psalm 87:7, highlighting a real-life moment of releasing comparison and anchoring joy in Christ. Strong search phrases like biblical gratitude, contentment over comparison, and Psalm 87 fountains help more hearts find the message quickly—because noticing God’s provision isn’t denial, it’s deliberate focus. Highlights Comparison is loud; gratitude is louder when practiced. Obedience often includes releasing what once mattered. Letting go creates capacity for deeper joy. Christ is the source, not the supplement. Serving others redirects the heart from scarcity to abundance. Worship begins at the fountain—God Himself. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.”- Zephaniah 3:17 NIVThe holiday season brings a sense of joy and positivity to many. The constant celebrations are a welcome distraction from their ordinary lives. Yet, for others, the holidays usher in more profound feelings of grief, remorse, or desperation. To the one who recently lost a loved one, putting on a happy face during celebrations is distressing. To the one who received the news that they no longer have a job, having to tell their family that Christmas will look a bit different this year is dispiriting. For those estranged from family members, watching others gather peacefully can be a depressing experience. If you are struggling to hold onto joy this season because you are in an emotionally, mentally, or spiritually heavy season, let me encourage you with these verses. “The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.”- Zephaniah 3:17 NIVWhen you are in the middle of an extremely difficult season, especially when it seems like the world around you is rejoicing while yours is falling apart, remember that God is with you. It may feel that He is distant, you might even be tempted to think He’s forgotten You, or His lack of removing your pain is evidence He doesn’t care. But, that is not true. God is always with you. He is your Savior and your Sustainer. He rejoices over you with gladness. He is love ( 1 John 4:16), and He created you out of love. He hasn’t forgotten you. She gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her: “You are the God who sees me,” for she said, “I have now seen the One who sees me.” - Genesis 16:12 NIV There are seasons in our lives where, though we know in our minds God hasn’t forsaken us, our hearts feel differently. Just like Hagar, our dire circumstances may cause us to question God’s goodness. We may feel that God doesn’t care about our situation, we are in a spiritual desert, and are desperate for something to quench our dry souls. God does care for you. He is grieved when His children are hurting. Jesus, who took on humanity, experienced all the things we experience. He knows what it feels like to be betrayed, to grieve the loss of a friend, to be rejected by the people He loved. God is a good God Who sees, and He sees you. Allow God’s goodness to draw you out of the desert, and find joy in Him.“You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.” - Isaiah 26:3 It can be difficult to hold on to joy when our thoughts aren’t focused on the Lord. Peace, isn’t that something we all desire? We can experience peace in the hardest of seasons when our thoughts are steadfast, or firmly fixed on the Lord. How can we securely anchor ourselves in God? We firmly believe that even in our darkest moments, God is still at work. God is still faithful, He has a purpose, and nothing can separate us from His love. Friend, if you are in a heavy season, know I am praying for you as you navigate the holidays. May you feel the Lord’s presence and know that He sees you and He loves you. Daylight Savings can leave us feeling drained and in a spiritual funk, but God’s light offers hope and renewal. 1 John 1:5 reminds us that God is light and that in Him there is no darkness at all. Just as seasonal darkness affects our mood, spiritual darkness can weigh on our hearts—but God’s light empowers us to shine, overcome, and point others to Christ even in the darkest seasons. Highlights Spiritual darkness is temporary; God’s light never fades (1 John 1:5, John 8:12). Darkness symbolizes evil, while light represents God’s presence and purity. Believers are called to live as children of the light, reflecting God in families, churches, and communities (Ephesians 5:8, 1 Thessalonians 5:5). Doing good deeds and shining for Christ helps others see God’s love (Matthew 5:16). Seasonal or spiritual darkness can impact mood, but God’s light brings hope and restoration. Walking in the light requires vigilance, prayer, and repentance to combat spiritual heaviness. Gratitude for God’s light encourages resilience through temporary dark seasons. In Jesus Knows Our Hearts, Michelle Lazurek explores how Jesus’ divine discernment reveals the truth hidden within every heart—and how believers can develop that same spiritual sensitivity. Drawing from Mark 2:8, this devotional reminds us that while people see only appearances, Christ sees the motives, pain, and wounds beneath our words and actions. Just as Jesus lovingly confronted the Pharisees’ hypocrisy and discerned the true needs of those He healed, we too are called to invite the Holy Spirit to search our hearts, heal hidden hurts, and guide us in extending discernment and grace to others. Highlights Jesus’ discernment reveals the deeper issues behind people’s words and actions. Healing and leadership both begin with emotional and spiritual health. The Pharisees’ outward spirituality contrasted with the impurity Jesus saw within their hearts. God calls us to develop the gift of discernment through prayer and the Holy Spirit’s guidance. True healing comes when we allow the Spirit to expose and heal unprocessed hurt, fostering unity in the body of Christ. Join the Conversation How has God revealed what’s truly in your heart lately? When a close friend was diagnosed with a life-threatening autoimmune disease, I found myself struggling with the very question faithful believers often hesitate to ask: “Why, Lord?” But in the middle of it all, God showed up—not just with provision, but with peace. The kind that doesn’t always make sense but anchors us in the chaos. The kind wrapped up in the powerful words of Numbers 6:24-26. Key Reflections: God’s peace isn’t the absence of pain—it’s His presence in the middle of it. The blessing in Numbers 6 is more than poetic—it’s a promise of God’s grace, protection, and peace. “Shalom” means wholeness, contentment, and joy—even in the wilderness. Faith doesn’t always mean clarity—but it does mean confidence in God’s character. Just like with the Israelites, God doesn’t abandon us in hard seasons—He walks with us through them. Even unanswered prayers can strengthen shaky faith.

Taking A Closer Look at Motherhood

Motherhood may be one of the most sacred roles God has given—but it’s also one of the most misunderstood in today’s culture. In today’s devotional, Lynette Kittle invites us to take a closer look at what the Bible really says about motherhood and how God designed it with both purpose and power. Despite society's mixed messages—telling women to prioritize success, beauty, or convenience—Scripture reminds us that life itself begins in the womb, shaped by the hands of God: “For You created my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother’s womb.” —Psalm 139:13 While childbirth comes with pain—a result of the fall in Genesis 3—God still calls it a blessing, a sacred invitation to partner with Him in the miracle of life. Even Jesus came through a mother, because that’s how God designed humanity to flourish. We encourage you to pray:“Lord, thank You for the gift of life. Help me honor the role of motherhood—whether I’m a mom, have one, or am still healing from what motherhood has meant in my life. Remind me that You are the Giver of every life, and that no person is here by accident.” In a world that often minimizes motherhood, God elevates it. He sees, honors, and blesses the mothers, the births, and every life created in love. Let this be your reminder: Whether you were born through natural means, technology, or adoption—God formed you. He knows you. He chose you. Join the Conversation:How has your view of motherhood been shaped by culture or by Scripture? What gives you hope when thinking about life, legacy, and God’s design? Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.”  Does your life ever feel small?  Mine sometimes does. Just last weekend, in fact, I had the unsettling experience of smallness at a country concert that was featuring a major artist. As the sun sank below the edge of the stadium, the crowd's anticipation mounted. When the singer finally ran onto the stage, donning his guitar and saluting the audience, the stadium erupted. Girls clutched each other and screamed. Phone flashlights turned into constellations amongst the pulsing galaxy of people. Tens of thousands of lips moved in unison to sing the opening song together.  Submerged in this world of smoke and lights and adrenaline, I had the unsettling feeling of being small. A longing began to stir deep in my belly—something like an exhilarating hunger. I suddenly wondered what it would feel like to live in this alternate reality called fame.  Back at home, I knew that laundry was piled on our bedroom floor, that our toddlers would be wanting pancakes in the morning, and that the dishes would be nearly toppling in the kitchen sink. My line of work, in comparison to rocking and selling out this stadium, seemed so humdrum and un-noteworthy that I could hardly stand it.  As it turns out, this hunger I was feeling—this longing to know what greatness feels like—came about long before electric guitars and jumbotrons. The disciples felt it too. One day, they even asked Jesus, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” (Matthew 18:1)  Jesus didn't name a rockstar. He didn't list off kings, or bible heroes, or professionals revered in their fields. Instead, he beckoned for a child to come and stand among them. “‘Truly I tell you,' he said, ‘unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.  Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me…'” (Matthew 18:2-5).  Earthside, we perceive greatness as notoriety and wealth, power and fanfare. It involves being or having more than someone else. But in the kingdom of heaven? Greatness looks like humility, trust, and inclusion. Greatness looks like a child, turning to the Father for everything. If we align our life's work to what the world deems ‘great,' then our days will be filled with striving and discontentment. We'll be ever subjected to the fickleness of humanity. But when we align ourselves with what Jesus values—when we humble our souls and trust in the only one that is truly great—we are able to bask in an eternal greatness that gives our souls rest and contentment.  So when we find ourselves caught in a pattern of discontentment, wondering when our time will come, or if anyone will ever notice us, or if our lives will ever possess that magnetic essence of greatness, let's come back to that image of Jesus, pulling the child near and saying,“This. This is what greatness looks like in my kingdom.”  Intersecting Faith & Life  Are there moments when your life feels small? Take note of any patterns. Do you feel less than great whenever you get together with that one friend who seems to have a glamorous, exciting life? Or do you feel discontentment bubbling whenever you spend time on social media?  Once you are able to identify when, where, or what makes you feel “small,” you can develop strategies to help you fight the lie that greatness comes from what the world hails, like fame and wealth or power and position. These strategies could include:  Limiting how often you expose yourself to these people or situations.● Memorizing Scripture to pray over yourself when you're feeling overcome withdiscontentment or inferiority. Surround yourself with others whose lives model humility and surrender to the Lord.● Finding solitude, then stopping to ask the Holy Spirit to reorient your priorities andremind you who are—and who he is. I have grown tremendously in this skill and calling as a believer over the past couple of years especially. You can truly only build deeper friendships and invest in the next generation if you listen to them. When I was a young girl in school we would always take the dreaded end of the school year tests. I never thrived at reading comprehension since I was a slower reader and dealt with the insecurity with that. I also never performed well at the listening portion. Basically the fact that I am a professional Christian writer is only an act of God today. He can take the unlikely and use them for His glory alone. When the teacher would read the portions for us to listen and answer questions to afterwards, I would overthink, zone out and wonder what was the most important thing that I should have heard. I was so overly concerned with performing well that I missed the big picture and got hyper focused on often the wrong details. In life, we can easily do this in our walk with God. There are so many voices trying to speak into our lives and gain our attention that if we are not careful, we can turn our focus towards the wrong things and miss the voice of the Lord. Today as we break down James 1:19, may we remember that there are many opinions and thoughts in this world, but only one voice of God.  “My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this” James begins this verse with an endearing message to his fellow believers. He calls them (and us today) brothers and sisters. His approach to the hard topic is kindness and humble care. He continues with the importance to take note of this. James wants his readers to know that what he is saying is important, so listen up! “Everyone should be quick to listen,” Everyone means all of us. James teaches us that by the power of the Holy Spirit within us, we should be quick to listen. I normally do not hear the adjective quick with listen. I feel like listening would pair more naturally with a word like patience, stop what you are doing and listen, or slow down and listen. Quick to listen reminds us that in a moment's notice when we want to provide a knee-jerk response, we need to quickly listen. We need to be fast at doing what is unnatural to us in order to live by the Spirit and not our flesh.  The Holy Spirit empowers us to do this and we need to pray to Him in moments when we need to hear what others are truly saying and also in times when God is speaking to us. We do not need to wait, but we need to have open ears and a fast response to hear our Lord just like a soldier would quickly listen to the instructions from His commanding general. Do we take the voice of the Spirit this seriously? We need to be on our guard and ready to hear Him, especially when we are trying to actively listen to others who need to hear the gospel. “Slow to speak and slow to become angry.” Where do we tend to go when we are not quick to listen? We speak too soon and often become angry. If we do not take the time to truly listen to others, we can be overly concerned with a response and an argument versus truly shepherding and caring for the other person's heart. We see Jesus model this so many times with the Pharisees and religious leaders on this earth. He was quick to listen to them, even though often they were testing Him and questioning His authority.  He did speak back to them and respond, but He was always strategic and allowed them to question Him first. Then, sometimes he did become angry, however He was slow to anger. Jesus exhibited humility, kindness, compassion, and confidence in His Father's will and kingdom. We too can live this out in being quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger. Intersecting Faith and Life: Are you taking time to listen well to others before responding? How can you respond more like Jesus? Are you quick to listen to the Holy Spirit or do you jump to respond in your flesh? Pray and ask God to help you live this out. How to Push Through the Weariness of Prayer

We can have confidence that our prayers aren't falling flat or fading away into nothingness. Like Revelation 5:8 reveals, our prayers are preserved and still at work long after they are spoken. “And when He had taken it, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp and they were holding golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of God's people.” SUBSCRIBE to our sister podcasts:Your Daily Prayer: https://www.lifeaudio.com/your-daily-prayer/Your Daily Bible Verse: https://www.lifeaudio.com/your-daily-bible-verse/ Full Transcript Below: How to Push Through the Weariness of Prayer By Lynette Kittle “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up”--Galatians 6:9 Each morning, my husband and I pray together for each other, family members, neighbors, friends, acquaintances, leaders, world issues, and more, depending on how God is leading us. While praying for some individuals and situations for years, at times, it can seem like we are just going through a list, day-after-day, year-after-year. Yet we keep at it, knowing God hears, listens, and answers prayer. As Psalm 66:19 assures us, “But God has surely listened and has heard my prayer.” Pushing Through the Hard Times in Prayer When prayers for someone or a situation seem to go on endlessly, the enemy often tries to discourage us from praying, urging us to give up and causing us to believe God isn't going to answer or doesn't want to answer our pleas.  As well, it seems like the more we pray for an individual or situation, the worse it gets, like it's headed in a completely different direction than we're praying for. During this time, it can seem like our efforts are in vain, yet we know that 1 Thessalonians 5:17 urges us to “Pray continually.” When praying seems hard at times, we can look to Daniel in the Bible, who knew how to keep pushing through difficult times of prayer. As Daniel 9:3 describes, “So I turned to the Lord God and pleaded with Him in prayer and petition, in fasting, and in sackcloth and ashes.” What's Happening When Answers Aren't Coming Through? Often, we don't understand what's holding up answers to our prayers or why we aren't seeing God fulfill our requests. The book of Daniel offers insight into what may be keeping our answers at bay. Daniel had a troubling vision that led him to some serious praying, yet it seemed that with all his efforts, he wasn't receiving an answer. Not understanding why he wasn't receiving answers, God sent Gabriel to give Daniel insight and understanding (Daniel 9:22), saying, “As soon as you began to pray, a word went out, which I have come to tell you, for you are highly esteemed. Therefore, consider the word and understand the vision” (Daniel 9:23). Then, later on, seeking answers again after three weeks of mourning (Daniel 10:2-3), Daniel experienced another divine encounter. “I looked up and there before me was a man dressed in linen, with a belt of fine gold from Uphaz around his waist. His body was like topaz, His face like lightning, His eyes like flaming torches, His arms and legs like the gleam of burnished bronze, and His voice like the sound of a multitude” (Daniel 10:5-6). “He said, ‘Daniel, you who are highly esteemed, consider carefully the words I am about to speak to you, and stand up, for I have now been sent to you.' And when He said this to me, I stood up trembling. Then he continued, ‘Do not be afraid, Daniel. Since the first day that you set your mind to gain understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response to them.  But the prince of the Persian kingdom resisted me twenty-one days. Then Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, because I was detained there with the king of Persia. Now I have come to explain to you what will happen to your people in the future, for the vision concerns a time yet to come.'” (Daniel 10:12-14). Believing God Is At Work Through Our Prayers James 5:16, emphasizes the power of prayer, “Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” During times of pushing through prayer, Psalm 126:5 reminds us, “Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy.” In Luke 18:1, Jesus encouraged His disciples to always pray and not give up. Like Winston Churchill urged people on October 29, 1941, his words ring true, too, when it comes to feeling discouraged and doubtful in prayer: “This is the lesson: never give in, never give in, never, never, never, never in nothing, great or small, large or petty—never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.” The devil wants us to give up and stop believing that God hears and answers our prayers. But 1 John 5:15 urges us to hold on: “And if we know that He hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of Him.” We can have confidence that our prayers aren't falling flat or fading away into nothingness. Like Revelation 5:8 reveals, our prayers are preserved and still at work long after they are spoken. “And when He had taken it, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp and they were holding golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of God's people.” Intersecting Faith & Life:  Are you feeling worn down and weary praying? The grace He extends to us will endure throughout all time and this is shown to us in how Gentiles are now part of the family of God. We are blessed because we now know the Savior of our souls, our Redeemer, and our greatest Friend. Although we are now just coming to know Him, He has loved us since before the beginning of time. When we were actively living in sin, He loved us (Romans 5:8). The love of Jesus is what enables us to live graceful lives.  While we ourselves might be lacking in extending grace in our lives, we know we never have to worry about this with the Lord. He is always extending grace to us in His actions. Even though we do not deserve His love and grace, Jesus still chooses to do this. Love is at the Lord's core and there is nothing we can do to change this (Romans 8:37-39). From a biblical sense, grace is undeserved favor or unmerited favor. We did nothing to warrant Jesus' love or favor. Rather, He simply chose to love us and He continues to do so every day. The grace He extends to us will endure throughout all time and this is shown to us in how Gentiles are now part of the family of God. At one point only Israel was the family of God; however through Jesus' grace all people can join the family of God.  This is all because of God's grace and His love. With this knowledge, we can live graceful lives. Rather than being fearful, doubtful, or even prideful, we can live lives of grace and love. God has given us grace, which is something we don't deserve. By all practical means, God could have eradicated the human race thousands of years ago because of our sin, but He didn't. Instead, He has chosen to give us chance after chance to come to Him.  The love of God is abounding and this is why He has not destroyed us. God's love is what leads Him to give us grace because it is not by anything that we did. We cannot earn God's grace just as we cannot earn our own salvation. If one was to say we could earn God's grace, it would be implying that we somehow could win God's favor and this is not true. We already have God's favor because of who He is, not because of anything we have done or haven't done.  This is in line with our Bible passage of the day. The Apostle Paul tells us, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9). Similar to as I was saying before, grace and salvation were given to us by God. It is by God's grace that we have been saved and this is through faith. As soon as we place faith in Jesus and accept Him as our Savior, we are given salvation.  Grace overpowers our life and salvation becomes our new reality. As Paul goes on to tell us, this grace and salvation is not from ourselves. Rather, it is the gift of God. God's grace and salvation are both gifts. We do not earn these things by our works in order that no one can boast. If God chose people based on their work, then it would give individuals a chance to boast about “how they earned salvation” or “earned God's favor.” Neither of these things are biblical. Instead, they are rooted in pride. Salvation is a free gift given to us by the Lord Himself. We did not work towards this gift nor did we earn it. In the same way, grace was extended to us by Jesus out of His great love. When we look at these truths, we know we can step out into the day with a grateful heart. We have been given a graceful life and this is all because of the Lord.  May we all praise Him today and go to Him in prayer.  “Dear Jesus, I praise You for blessing me with a graceful life. Through Your love and grace, I have received salvation. None of this is due to my own work or efforts. Instead, it is done completely by You. Thank You, Lord, for Your wonderful gift of salvation and Your grace. Amen.” Intersecting Faith & Life: Are you currently living a graceful life? If not, how can you change this?  We cannot warrant God's favor. Have you tried to do this in the past? If you have, how can you give up this practice?  Salvation is given freely by grace through faith. Have you accepted Jesus' free gift of salvation yet? If not, do you think you might want to accept Him as your Savior today?  Discover more Christian podcasts at lifeaudio.com and inquire about advertising opportunities at lifeaudio.com/contact-us.

There are so many of us today who are struggling with this heaviness. It just weighs us down.So many problems...so much painWe fight it, and then we give in to it. We lose hope. We lose contentment. All that Christian contentment doesn't feel like it's real for some of us.For those who are going through the problem of a heavy heart right now, I pray that you would feel the comfort of the Holy Spirit and the Word. Let it wash over you. Fuel you, salve your pain and comfort your fears. May it give you clarity in the midst of the chaos that's in your mind. Our mindsets affect us For some of us, our perspective is causing us to struggle with a heavy heart. Our perspective is messed up, because, we get so focused on our problems, or on our past. We get so focused on our sin and on other people and what they've done to us that we miss Christ. As the writer to the Hebrews told us, to fix our eyes on Jesus, the author, and perfecter of our faith. What promises do you turn to in your struggles? Some of us struggle with the problem of a heavy heart and the perspective of a heavy heart. But what we need to hear are the precious promises for those that are heavy in heart. God will never leave us and never forsake usGod is our light and salvationGod is worthy of our trustGod offers us precious promises for our fearGod forgives and justifies us in ChristGod is the lover of our souls and His love is never-endingGod is faithful in spite of our faithlessnessGod is our peaceWe need to hear them, not just as words on a page but as truths we can believe.God's prescriptions for your heavy heartFor the prescription for our souls, we need to fight for our joy. The Father is not just going to give it to us. We must fight for it. We have been given the power of the Holy Spirit, as well as His Word. The Lord has given us the church, but He has called us to fight. Paul said at the end of his life, "I fought the good fight. I finished the course. I've kept the faith."Message Outline Problem of a Heavy HeartPerspective of a Heavy HeartPromises to a Heavy HeartPrescriptions for a Heavy Heart.______________________________________________________________________________ About James and Lessons for Life Are you longing to find answers to the deeper issues of life? You should have practiced the latter without leaving the former undone. Following Jesus Christ costs us everything but saves our very soul and self. Luke 9:23-25 ‘To obey is better than sacrifice…’ 1 Samuel 15:22 Following Jesus Christ means not only being a steward of our Treasures, our financial resources, but Jesus also asks us to follow him with our Time and Talent. Tithe is the Scriptural principle of giving back to the Heavenly Father the first 10% of our earnings. In the New Testament, followers of Jesus Christ realized all of their belongings were a gift from the Heavenly Father and they were willing to give whatever God asked them to give. In this blog, we are starting an ongoing discussion about leadership. First, we’ll talk about how fundamental leadership is in our lives. Then we’ll talk about definitions of leadership resulting in what I believe is the best definition of leadership. Finally, I am going to ask you to share your thoughts, experiences and questions about leadership. I want to hear what you think and why. This is a discussion, after all! Real talk about life. You can find a podcast version of this blog article on our website or iTunes. If you want to dive in to the issue of leadership, you can get my book, “On Leadership, What’s Broken in Our Society and How We Fix It” on Amazon.com. Why Leadership is Important: Leadership and Life Are the Same Leadership is very important for at least three reasons. First, leadership is personal to all of us. You are a leader at work. You are a leader in your own family. And hopefully, you are leading your own life towards fulfillment and Happiness. If you are going to be successful in life, you must be a good leader in all these areas. Leadership isn’t something that someone else does. Leadership is something you do and experience every day. Second, you are a citizen-leader. As Americans, we all have the responsibility for being leaders of our nation, states and local communities. Our Constitution begins with “We the people of the United States,” and Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address noted that we have a “government of the people, by the people and for the people.” You are a citizen-leader with the responsibility to choose the day-to-day leaders in our government. To choose good leaders, you must understand leadership. Finally, leadership is at the very core of our society. It permeates every aspect of our lives. Every day, depending on the situation, we constantly trust the leadership of others and others trust our leadership. At work, we trust that senior leaders keep things headed in the right direction while we lead our people and teams in our projects. In our families, parents lead kids through the first 20 years of their kids’ lives and then the kids often lead their parents through the last 10 years of their parents lives. Church ministers lead us through spiritual and life challenges. Doctors, attorneys and bankers lead us through our health, legal and financial issues. Teachers lead our communities and children in education General contractors lead us through home renovation The employees at Trader Joe’s help us find new trending foods and the Geek Squad leads us through the installation of our home theater systems. Youth athletic coaches lead our kids in the development of teamwork, leadership and character. Or at least we hope they do. When you think about it, leadership goes on all around us all the time. It is the most basic of human relationships. Leadership has been around since the first time one human guided or taught another. Leadership is pervasive to our human experience. It permeates every aspect of life. Our personal and professional lives are full of relationships where we trust the leadership of others and they trust our leadership. Our society depends on billions of these leadership-trust relationships every day. Without them, our society would collapse quickly. Think about some of the areas where we take leadership for granted: Law Banking and Finance Agriculture and Food Construction and Engineering Health care Government Military Education Logistics Infrastructure (water, roads, electrical) Computing Systems and Information Technology Social and Cultural Affairs In so many ways, leadership and life are the same thing.
