Paula Stone Williams, Boomer, joins us to talk about the fearless face of authenticity as part 3 of our 4-part series about the book Fearless Female Leaders by Kathy McAfee and Rosemary Paetow (Eps, 182, 183).   Paula is a Pastoral Counselor and internationally known speaker on gender equity and religious tolerance. As Kathy and Rosemary wrote this in their book after interviewing Paula: “She who had been born into a boy's body and was given the name Paul by her parents knew she was meant to be a girl… After leading a double life he made the fearless decision to move forward with her gender transition... for the first time in her years on earth she was feeling seen, heard, loved and valued for who she truly was. A woman.”    Topics covered in the Episode: Transition journey Male & woman leadership insights Gender equity Authenticity Mary Oliver's The Journey Actions to take the deep inner journey What keeps us from leading Rejection Types of gifts Women apologizing   Here are three takeaways from the episode:   1.    Women can have very strong leadership tendencies and tend to have great confidence coupled with great humility. 2.    The call toward authenticity is sacred, is holy, and for the greater good and it's terrifying and never easy. 3.   What stops us from leading is not what we fear but what gave birth to the fear. It's something that comes from thinking we're unworthy of deep human connection as we are. You cannot lead from a place of strength until you deal with this dragon. Are you ready to unlock the beauty in your story, and find God's grace and redemption? In today's episode, my friend and guest Deb Skomba joins me to discuss the importance of embracing your story to stop hiding from living authentically! Ready to break free from our self-imposed limitations and embrace the truth of who you are? Deb's message is simple: it's time to come out of the shadows to take ownership of your story and not run from any of it - the good, the bad and the ugly. She wants us to see the beauty beneath the pain, the hurt and the sorrow, in a way that facilitates transformation and hope. We all have parts of our lives that need healing and restoration. The good news is we no longer have to be stuck in shame, guilt or self-hatred over our past. No matter where you have been or what you have gone through, God can make beauty out of it and rewrite your story.  The Bible is in many ways, a story of redemption. It's full of God using people's failures, short-comings and broken relationships to fulfill His purpose and plans. Jesus has given us the ministry of reconciliation. Scott shares how his journey of becoming a counselor began in a courtroom where he witnessed some of the most horrible family circumstances one could imagine. It is hard to know what to do when we see the hurt others experience due to the consequences of their choices or the choices of their parents. Many of us walk away as we do not feel equipped to help. Scott however, decided to invested the time and effort necessary to obtain the credentials and knowledge he would need to make an impact on the hurting hearts and minds around him. In this episode we discuss the possible reasons why anxiety is so high in our society today, the activities we can practice to help overcome anxiety, how we evaluate ourselves by our culture, and how our access to so much information can be detrimental. We continue our conversation on Type 9s, with our own Katie and Mary, and guest Jeremy McQuown. Make sure to listen to part 1 if you haven't yet heard it! You don't want to miss hearing the common traits of Enneagram Type 9. Tips from our Type 9s: Don't interpret a 9s lack of response as not caring. Consider that they are worn out from caring so much for others that they need some downtime to recharge. If you suspect you are parenting a 9, give them opportunities to choose and “impact the things they can impact”. Major Quote: On a heart level with 9s,  there is a longing for peace and harmony and relational connection with people that we're going to engage in a relationship and a situation, whatever it my be, with good intentions. How to show love to 9s: Hold space. See me. Care for my opinions and listen. Focus on what I do, not what I have not done. Helping bring peace to the environment is a loving gesture to a Type 9. Topics related to this episode:Thomas Merton quote from bookBecoming UsJeremy's Counseling for PastorsContact Us:Counseling with HopeEmail: feedback@nhnlc.comInstagram Twitter

God's Healing Word by Cindy Hyde, MA Jesus said it was the sick who needed a physician (Mt 9:12). He is our great Physician. He is the LORD that heals us (Ps 30:2).  God wants us healthy in every way possible and He wants our soul to prosper (III Jn 2). Therefore, He sent His WORD, which is His Son Jesus Christ (Jn 1:1; Rev. 19:13), to heal us and deliver us from all of our destructions (Ps 107:20). His Living WORD (Jesus Christ) truly is health to all our flesh (Pr 4:20-22).  In Him we live and move and have our being (Ac 17:28). God sent His Son Jesus Christ to destroy the works of the devil (I Jn 3:8b; Acts 10:38). Jesus bore our griefs and carried our sorrows; He was wounded for our transgressions and bruised for our iniquities. The chastisement of our peace was upon Him; He took our infirmities and our sicknesses from us (Mt 8:17b), and with His stripes we were and are healed (Is 53:4-5; I Pt 2:24). He forgives all your iniquities and heals all your diseases (Ps 103:3). Nothing is too hard for the Lord (Gn 18:14).  All things are possible when we believe (Mk 9:23). We are assured that God hears and answers us while we are still crying out to Him (Is 65:24). We know that the prayers of the righteous avails much (Ja 5:16). We have this confidence in Him, that if we ask any thing according to His will (III Jn 2), He hears us, and we know we have the petitions we desire of Him. (I Jn 5:14, 15). There are many who are sick and dying because of a breach in a relationship with God, themselves, or others. With the power of the Holy Spirit (Ac 1:8) and His gifts (I Co. 12:7-11), body, soul, spirit, mind, will, and emotions are healed by the power of God (  ) Jesus asked the impotent man at the Pool of Bethesda “Wilt thou be make whole? (Jn 5:6). The man was made whole. We are made whole by the same power. It is God's will to comfort, bless and heal His children (Lk 5:12c; Jn 5:1-9). Prayer Father, in the name of Jesus we are crying out to You in faith, believing You are not only hearing us but answering us while we yet speak, You are our Great Physician. You are the Lord who heals us, who forgives us all of our iniquities, all of our sins, and our transgressions. Come Lord and deliver us out of our destructions. Your Word is health to all our flesh. We receive Your Word and declare that in Him we move, and live, and have our being. We believe all things are possible with You Lord. We know that by the stripes Jesus bore upon His back we were healed. Thank you that when we ask You hear us, and answer us out of Your great mercy and loving kindness. We place our confidence in You, Lord, and in You alone. You are the God who heals us. We want to be made us whole. We ask You to make us whole in every area of our lives. Heal us oh Lord and we will be healed. That You Father that the power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ courses through our bodies removing all uncleanness, all infirmity, all sickness, all disease, all effects of sin, all residue of our sinful nature. Cleanse us Lord as we submit and yield ourselves to you and resist the enemy. You and You alone are God, the One Who was, and is, and is to come. We thank You Lord, we bless your Holy name and give You praise for all honor, all glory and all praise belong to You. Amen. AUTHOR BIO  Cindy Hyde, MAEd specializes in soul care. Sandi Klein's Conversations with Creative Women

Ellen Tilem knew from a very young age that she wanted to be a Cantor. In Jewish tradition the Cantor is a musician trained in the vocal arts, who along with the Rabbi, leads the congregation in prayer. But there's so much more for Cantor Tilem. She's been a member of the clergy at Temple Emeth, a reform congregation in Teaneck, New Jersey since 1994 following her Ordination from the Hebrew Union College - Jewish Institute of Religion - School of Sacred Music. She officiates at weddings, funerals and baby namings. And, as an experienced Pastoral Counselor she connects with congregants who are struggling with life's challenges: grief, spirituality, illness, divorce. Join us as Cantor Tile shares her personal and professional stories.

Be Prepared for Conflict in Marriage | Rodney Wilson

Men's Leadership Network Podcast

What We Heard:  Rodney Wilson, Pastoral Counselor at LifePoint Church in Smyrna, TN, reminds us that marriage takes work! There WILL be conflict. It’s not a question of ‘if’ it will happen but instead ‘how’ will we respond when it does happen. Married couples will face issues on many fronts. Some will seem very small and others will appear unresolvable. Are we prepared for the conflict? Rodney, who celebrates 40 years of marriage, gives several great insights to help us prepare for various conflicts we’ll face in marriage. The goal is ‘civil disagreement’, learning to be civil with one another as we walk through conflict resolution. One of the biggest battles we will face in reaching this goal will be our internal battle with an “I attitude”. We should always strive to take our eyes off of ourselves. It’s important to remember that “what we feed grows and what we starve dies” so we should starve selfishness, anger, lust, pride and other ungodly things. Rodney points out that men tend to have a fight or flight mentality when dealing with conflict resolution .It’s important for us to learn how to fight and how to step away from the conflict to create space to breathe and hopefully avoid responding out of emotion. Get the anger out of the conflict. Yelling to get your point across is NOT more clearly communicated or understood by your spouse, it’s only louder. This is also true for resolving conflict with children- get anger out of the conflict. Train them in the way they should go not in the way they want to go. What It Means  It will take energy, it can be hard work, but we must be intentional in preparing for conflict. There is so much at stake. How we invest today in our marriage will show up tomorrow, so we must invest wisely. What We Do Next:  Communicate, communicate, communicate! Speak honestly with your mate about whatever issue you’re facing and then allow space, a time to process. As conflicts arise, we should always be willing to say to our spouse, “I need your help with this”. This nurtures a feeling that you’re working together on the problem. Our leadership sets the tone for our homes so we should strive to be servant leaders, thinking of the other as more important. Final Takeaways:  We grow together as we walk together through conflict. How we resolve the ‘little’ conflicts will inform how we resolve the bigger conflicts.
