This week, Skyler and Evan are here to discuss the Colorado Rockies' actions at the non-tender deadline. Cal Quantrill and Brendan Rodgers are Rockies no more as the team continues to shed payroll... only for the Rockies to go out and sign 34-year-old second baseman Kyle Farmer? Jacob Stallings also returns to the Rockies with Lucas Gilbreath and Sam Hilliard. This team is so weird. Finally, beloved Rockies icons Carlos González and Troy Tulowitzki are on the ballot for the 2025 Baseball Hall of Fame! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
This week, Skyler and Evan discuss the position battles for 2025 that seem to have already started. Top catching prospect Drew Romo hasn't seen the field in 11 days and appears to have been supplanted by Hunter Goodman. What's the reasoning, and can we expect Goodman to start at catcher next year? Meanwhile, when it comes to fourth outfielder, the Rockies need to make a decision between Sam Hilliard and Jake Cave because you can't keep both. Finally, this might be Charlie Blackmon's last week as a Colorado Rockie and maybe as a big league ball player. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
The Milwaukee Brewers bats fell silent after the first inning in todays game. The Brewers scored a run off of a Rhys Hoskins RBI single, but that was all she wrote for the Brewers offense. The Rockies took a 4-1 lead in the top of the fifth inning off of a Sam Hilliard three run home run, and after the that the bats of the Brewers couldn't generate any offense. The Rockies retired 23 batters in a row to end the game. Dominic Cotroneo broke down the game and discussed the game in Brewers Extra Innings.

We had the opportunity to record this episode in person at Citizens Bank Park on Lou Gehrig Day. Thank you to the Phillies for being so hospitable! We go through the takeaways from the week in Major League Baseball plus our Quirkjians seemed extra quirky this week. Submit yours at GreatGameOrWhat.com.Tim came up with his top team using only players who wore number four, there might be some disagreement in the infield on those. We hear about the New York Mets and even talk about both Tim and Jeff's mascoting experience (kind of).During our live streamed Lou Gehrig Day episode on Sunday, June 2nd, we spoke with two current players; Phillies pitcher Aaron Nola, whose uncle passed away from ALS, Brandon Crawford, who is deeply connected to the cause. We also hear live from Mike Piscotty, who's wife, Gretchen, passed away from the disease. Their son is pro ballplayer Stephen Piscotty. And also, Sam Hilliard, in the Colorado Rockies system, joined the show to talk about his father's battle with the disease. This is our chance to wrap up our weekend dedicated to ALS, if you missed Sarah Langs and Boog Sciambi, they were featured in their own episode released back on Friday, so scroll back to hear that. Thank you for supporting this cause and helping us raise awareness. Visit GreatGameOrWhat.com to contact the show with your questions, quips and insights. Joy Pop Productions LLC

Brewers rookie outfielder Joey Wiemer was the difference last night, his two-run homer off Drew Smith accounting for Milwaukee's scoring in a 2-1 game in Queens. The homer was Wiemer's 11th, as he opened his account for both the season and his career on April 5 — also against the Mets. That one was a three-run shot, also giving Milwaukee the lead, 4-1, on the way to a 7-6 triumph over New York. Here is Wiemer's home run chain.* Joey Wiemer hit his first home run off David Peterson, 4/5/23* David Peterson gave up his first home run to Johan Camargo, 8/2/20* Johan Camargo hit his first home run off Matt Grace, 7/9/17That was the first home run allowed by Matt Grace, who was that day's winning pitcher in relief of Joe Ross for the Nationals. Grace had only that decision during the 2017 season, when he posted a 4.32 ERA with 31 strikeouts and 18 walks in 50 innings out of the Washington bullpen. An eighth-round pick of the Nationals in the 2010 draft, Grace stuck around Washington through 2019, after which he went to Arizona as a free agent. Grace made only three appearances with Arizona, where he gave up the 20th and final homer of his career to Sam Hilliard of the Rockies on August 26, 2020.Against the Mets, Grace allowed only one dinger: Pete Alonso's third on his way to 53 in 2019. The Nuggets sharing hugs while passing around the NBA championship trophy. Scenes that for decades seemed impossible finally turned into reality for the Nuggets. Denver outlasted the Miami Heat 94-89 in an ugly, frantic Game 5 that did nothing to derail Nikola Jokic, who bailed out his teammates with 28 points and 16 rebounds on a night when nothing else seemed to work. The win gave the Nuggets their first title in 47 years in the league. Jokic was named MVP and is the first player to lead everyone in points, rebounds and assists in a single playoffs. NBA – Denver’s Nikola Jokic adds missing piece to impressive resume with NBA title The Denver Nuggets’ first NBA championship cements Serbian center Nikola Jokic as one of the game’s preeminent player. But he was named the NBA Finals Most Valuable Player after dominating the series with Miami just as he did earlier rounds when the Nuggets knocked off Minnesota, Phoenix and the LA Lakers. Jokic finally fully celebrated his impressive run through the playoffs once the Nuggets had secured the first NBA championship in franchise history. NBA – Analysis: Nuggets built a championship team the right way, and built it to last This may be just the start for the Denver Nuggets. They are the newly crowned NBA champions after beating the Miami Heat on Monday night and winning the finals in five games. They have five starters that are all age 30 or under. They have a superstar in Nikola Jokic leading the way and an elite second option in Jamal Murray. They have a roster filled with players who have bought in to be something bigger than themselves. The Nuggets were built the right way and built to last. That’s why they should be in the championship mix next year as well. Sen. Richard Blumenthal sent letters to PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan and LIV CEO Greg Norman spelling out the “serious questions regarding the reasons for and terms behind the announced agreement.” Blumenthal, who is chairman of the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, said he also wanted to hear the tour’s plans to retain its tax-exempt status. Last week, LIV and the tour stunned the golf world by agreeing to merge the PGA Tour and European tour with the Saudi golf interests, while dropping all lawsuits between the parties. NHL – 2023 NHL Stanley Cup Finals – (best of seven) Tonight Game 5 Florida Panthers at Vegas Golden Knights, 8:00 p.m. (VGK leads 3-1) NHL – Original Golden Knights hope to fulfill owner’s wish of Stanley Cup by 6th year Golden Knights owner Bill Foley was aggressive from the beginning. He said he wanted to win the Stanley Cup in six years. Vegas nearly won it the first year. The Knights made the Stanley Cup Final before losing in five games to the Washington Capitals. High expectations came from the top and came early for the six players who remain from that team. The Knights take a 3-1 series lead into Tuesday’s Cup Final against the Florida Panthers. This is Vegas’ sixth season. NHL – Accustomed to playing with injuries, Panthers prepare for Game 5 The Florida Panthers took the ice for Monday’s practice without several key players, most notably Matthew Tkachuk. The Panthers also were seemingly without any concern as they prepare for Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final against the Vegas Golden Knights, down 3-1 in the series. The common theme in the Panthers’ locker room after practice was referring to their 3-1 series comeback in the opening round against the Presidents’ Trophy-winning Boston Bruins. This time, however, it’ll take a lot more than hockey’s so-called “puck luck” in what’s been a hard-hitting, physically challenging, brawl-filled series. Tennis – Novak Djokovic has 23 Slams, so is he the GOAT? He leaves that debate to others Novak Djokovic’s 23 Grand Slam titles put him atop the list for the most in history by a man. Djokovic was then asked how it feels to be the greatest male tennis player in history. He did not give a direct answer. But the numbers sure back his case. Most Grand Slam titles. Most weeks at No. 1. The only man to win every Masters 1000 event twice. And so on. He now heads to Wimbledon halfway to a calendar-year Grand Slam. The Nuggets were built the right way and built to last. That’s why they should be in the championship mix next year as well. Women’s National Basketball Association Tonight Washington Mystics at Indiana Fever, 7:00 p.m. Golf – Senator asks LIV Golf, PGA Tour leaders for records on merger The leader of a Senate subcommittee wants the PGA Tour and Saudi Arabia’s LIV Golf to present records about negotiations that led to their new agreement and plans for what golf will look like under the arrangement. He broke a tie with rival Rafael Nadal and is now three ahead of the retired Roger Federer. Djokovic got his 23rd by beating Casper Ruud in the French Open final on Sunday. Soccer – Mbappe informs PSG he will not trigger contract extension, AP source says Kylian Mbappe has told Paris Saint-Germain he won’t take up the option of a 1 yea extension on his contract. His current deal expires at the end of next season. The Franch superstar confirmed his decision in a letter to PSG. The person also said PSG would not allow Mbappe to leave as a free agent, raising the possibility of an immediate bidding war by other clubs and potential transfer this summer. The Atlanta Braves rallied for a 7-6 comeback victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday at Truist Park. As we get closer to opening day the position battles are coming into focus with several surprises. Ian Anderson and Bryce Elder were underwhelming in their spring performances and were unceremoniously sent down to minors camp, putting Jared Shuster and Dylan Dodd competing for the 5th starter spot. Meanwhile the 4th outfielder battle has gotten interesting as Sam Hilliard and Eli White have outperformed expectations. And finally, Braden Shewmake has performed well and caused some to wonder if he could earn the shortstop job over Vaughn Grissom. The last week or so of spring training will be very interesting as the Braves' brass has some important decisions to make.
Our Truist reporter KMac is back to get you up to speed on all things Braves Spring Training, an impressive start to Team USA in the WBC, a chat with Nick, Chris and Vaugh Grissom plus more as we are now a little over two weeks away from Opening Day!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Spring Training games got underway for the Atlanta Braves over the weekend and Dylan Dodd was impressive showing why he might be the best Rookie of the Year candidate for the team in 2023. Vaughn Grissom only fielded one ball on Saturday, but Jake Mastroianni gives his overreaction to the play and why it has him a little worried. Eddie Rosario, Sam Hilliard, and Eli White have some good moments as they battle for the left field job. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!
