[Episode 37] This month barSILENCE is taking off into the high-tech futuristic world of Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere! Released in Japan in 1999 and internationally in 2000, this ambitious entry in Namco's legendary flight-combat series pushed the PlayStation to its limits and had an awesome cyberpunk-infused narrative, stunning visuals, and one of the most experimental soundtracks in the series. Composed by a powerhouse team including Tetsukazu Nakanishi, Hiroshi Okubo, Go Shiina, Koji Nakagawa, and Kanako Kakino, the music of Ace Combat 3 is a brilliant fusion of techno and electronica, mixed with an atmospheric ambiance that perfectly complements the game's futuristic setting. To celebrate the 25th anniversary, Namco released a fully remastered soundtrack in 2024, and we'll be experiencing it in a techno futuristic playlist-style format. Get ready to hack the Electrosphere and take to the skies for some serious Air Combat! Bingo! With findings reported in Nature Astronomy, this revelation provides critical insights into the moon's global subsurface ocean's potential habitability. Juno's flyby uncovers the atmospheric composition of Europa, offering a new understanding of its surface ice and the intriguing possibility that oxygen may fuel life deep within the moon's ocean.*White Dwarf Stars Defying the Cooling ProcessAstronomers are left baffled by a population of white dwarf stars that have mysteriously ceased cooling, a finding that upends long-standing theories about stellar evolution. The discovery, reported in the journal Nature, suggests that some white dwarfs might be generating extra energy, challenging the way scientists determine the age of these ancient celestial remnants and the history of our galaxy.*Unlocking Neptune's Past with Icy AsteroidsThe Kuiper Belt's icy rocks may hold the key to Neptune's formation. A study of the binary asteroid system Moore's Somnus, detailed in Astronomy and Astrophysics, suggests that the ice giants' tumultuous past and the solar system's evolution are etched in these frozen bodies. The research, aided by the James Webb Space Telescope, provides a glimpse into the chemistry and physics that shaped the outer reaches of our planetary neighborhood.*Japan's Lunar Lander: A Survivor of the Lunar NightJAXA's lunar lander, Slim, has unexpectedly survived the frigid lunar night and phoned home. Initially landing on its side, the probe managed to conduct scientific observations during a brief solar recharge. As Slim enters sleep mode once more, mission managers anticipate another attempt at revival with the next lunar dawn, marking Japan's advancement in lunar exploration.Listen to SpaceTime on your favorite podcast app with our universal listen link: https://spacetimewithstuartgary.com/listen and access show links via https://linktr.ee/biteszHQFor more SpaceTime and show links: https://linktr.ee/biteszHQFor more space and astronomy podcasts visit our HQ at https://bitesz.comSupport the show: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/spacetime-with-stuart-gary--2458531/supportShow notes created by https://headliner.app---
Embark with me, David Wright, on an enthralling expedition through the vast and mystical realm of hypnosis, where myths of ancient gods and the wisdom of historic influencers converge to reveal the secrets of the mind. Our episode unwraps the enigmatic history of this psychological phenomenon, right from its beginnings in the temples of Egypt and Greece to the mesmerizing advancements in the science behind it. As we traverse through time, I'll share tales of the mythical gods Hypnos and Somnus, whose very names have inspired the terminology we use today, and introduce you to the early pioneers like Wong Tai and Avicenna, who distinguished hypnosis from mere sleep with their groundbreaking insights.Fast forward to the present, and we'll explore the contributions of the late Richard Lewis, whose passing we mourn and whose legacy in entertainment we celebrate. Losing myself in the narratives of our past, I reflect on personal anecdotes and offer homage to the father of modern hypnosis, Franz Mesmer, and the predecessors who have lit the way for today's hypnotic practices. So, if your curiosity is piqued by the thought of delving into the mind's most profound mysteries, this episode promises a journey filled with discovery, nostalgia, and a touch of the human experience that connects us all.FIND ME:My Website: https://motorcityhypnotist.com/podcastMy social media links: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/motorcityhypnotist/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCCjjLNcNvSYzfeX0uHqe3gATwitter: https://twitter.com/motorcityhypnoInstagram: motorcityhypnoFREE HYPNOSIS GUIDEhttps://detroithypnotist.convertri.com/podcast-free-hypnosis-guidePlease also subscribe to the show and leave a review.(Stay with me as later in the podcast, I'll be giving away a free gift to all listeners!)Change your thinking, change your life!Laugh hard, run fast, be kind. Could nightmares be sentient beings from other dimensions with their own hidden agendas? Might these fears be contagious, spreading like viruses among dreamers? If so, this interplay between our conscious and unconscious realms could challenge our basic understanding of reality, raising the possibility of a universe influenced by ethical and metaphysical principles.New!

The boys discuss their favorite features of DC Pride and Marvel Voices: Pride (including the introduction of Somnus!); there's talk of some oddness in Loki (S1E3); they've got Issues: Legends #5, Wolverine #13, SWORD #6, Guardians of the Galaxy #15, and Way of X #3; there's news of a Marvel Dark Age period, potential MCU prequels, and Ben Reilly returning as Spiderman maybe; oh also WTF is Q-Force? They also muse about Colossus a little.

Good day to you, or should I say good evening to you, my little literary dreamers. Get your coziest pyjamas on, your bunny slippers, your favourite teddy bear and take a deep breath, as we prepare to take on today’s word: somniphobia.‘Somniphobia’ is the fear of going to bed, or extreme anxiety with the thought of sleeping or falling asleep. It is also known as hypnophobia, clinophobia, sleep anxiety, or sleep dread. It can be related to a fear of the unknown, concern with a ‘lack of control’ whilst sleeping, or worrying that one might not hear a loved one call out in pain or trouble whilst one is asleep. Sleep paralysis and nightmare disorders are two of the causes of somniphobia, although it is linked to many other forms of anxiety and fears. Common symptoms of somniphobia include a feeling of fear when thinking about sleeping, experiencing distress at bedtime, avoiding going to bed altogether, having panic attacks when it’s time to sleep, irritability or mood swings, and having a hard time remembering things. There can also be physical symptoms, including nausea, a tightness in the chest, and sweats, chills or hyperventilation. Children with somniphobia will often cry, become clingy, and ask not to be left alone. The word ‘somniphobia’ comes from the Latin words ‘somnus’ and ‘phobia’. ‘Somnus’ means ‘sleep’ or ‘drowsiness’, and comes from Proto-Italic ‘*swepnos’, meaning ‘to sleep’. It can also take on the figurative meaning ‘death’. Though not quite an antonym, chronophobia is a related fear - the fear of time. Chronophobia is an irrational fear of both time and the passing of time, and can include a fear of watches, clocks and other timepieces. It comes from the Latin word for time - ‘chronos’. When and where did hypnosis actually start and how has it evolved over the years to become what it is today? *The earliest references to hypnosis date back to ancient Egypt and Greece. *In Greek mythology, Hypnos is the god/personification of sleep. His name is the origin of the word hypnosis * the Roman equivalent is known as Somnus. (Somnambulist is a term for someone very susceptible to hypnosis. *Both cultures had religious centres where people came for help with their problems. *There are many references to trance and hypnosis in early writings. In 2600 BC the father of Chinese medicine, Wong Tai, wrote about techniques that involved incantations and passes of the hands. The Hindu Vedas written around 1500 BC mention hypnotic procedures. *Trance-like states occur in many shamanistic, druidic, voodoo, yogic and religious practices. *The modern father of Hypnosis was an Austrian physician, Franz Mesmer (1734 – 1815), from whose name the word ‘mesmerism’ is derived. (movie Mesmer starring Alan Rickman released in 1994). Mesmer was much maligned by the medical world of his day “Animal Magnetism” was coined by Mesmer. --the idea that diseases are the result of blockages in the flow of magnetic forces in the body. He believed he could store his animal magnetism in baths of iron filings and transfer it to patients with rods or by ‘mesmeric passes’. *Mesmer himself was very much a showman, conveying by his manner that something was going to happen to the patient. This form of indirect suggestion was very powerful (and is still used today). *Mesmer was also responsible for the popular image of the hypnotist as a man with magnetic eyes, a cape and goatee beard. *John Elliotson (1791 – 1868), a professor at London University,

The Moonlight Inn was written by Brad Colbroock for APN's Scary Stories 2019 event. Audio editing by Eli Ramos. Trigger warnings: Reference to murder, blood, and a nonchalant attitude towards both. Sharon's working the night shift at The Moonlight Inn, expecting a boring night watching her cat Somnus chase dust bunnies. But when a guest appears, his clothes soaked in blood, claiming he hit a deer with his car... the night just got a little more interesting. Ever in search of a new prompt, today we cracked open Weird Words - A Lovecraftian Lexicon and chose a page to get us started. The only word on that page to work with was Ivory Gate. It’s the gate through which false dreams come to men from the cave of Hypnos. It was a little bit of a slow start, but then we got to thinking about a man named Roman Thompson who wanted to make sure that everyone had good dreams. He made a machine that could manage your dreams his life’s work. It was a smashing success and the world was ever in his debt, until someone figured out how to monetize it many times over…and worse. We spend a solid hour on world building for the framework of what could easily be a sprawling series fit for graphic novel, novel, TV, or movies. We’re not trying to brag here, it’s actually kind of a cop-out. We try to write one story in every episode, but this one turned out to be more of a universe in which many stories can happen. Enjoy the beginnings of the company known as Somnus.

Happy New year from all the team and welcome to our first edition of 2019. Throughout the next 12 months ahead we will bring you the latest releases as always, from musicians based around the globe. Expect the unexpected in the music we play, be it sequential to cinematic, ambient to experimental, exploring the unusual too, taxing the senses. Feedback for the Bernd Kistenmacher special was well received by the fans, more to come later in the year. A few to mention on this podcast, includes Craig Padilla as guest on the Instrumental psyche-space-rock band, The Fellowship Of Hallucinatory Voyagers, epic Enigma influenced, cinematic soundtracks from Anhidema, Andy Pickford’s second release of the Objects & Expressions series. 节目组: Music Bang Bang 音乐大爆炸 节目名称: How much sleep we need开头曲 down V: Hello everyone, welcome to the world says from the VOE foreign languages station. I'm VincentJ:Hello everybody, (打哈欠)I&`&m Jotta.V: So Jotta, did you sleep well last night?J: Um, yes, thanks. Why do you ask?V: Today we&`&re talking about how much sleep we need. 插曲1 down J: I like a good eight hours myself – ten at the weekend. How about you?V: Six is enough for me. But did you know this? Humans sleep around three hours less than other primates like chimps, who sleep for about ten hours. So you&`&re a chimp, Jotta – at the weekends, at least! Are you ready for the quiz question?J: Haha.V: OK, I&`&ll assume that means yes. Right. So what keeps you awake at night, Jotta?J: Not much, to be honest. I usually sleep like a log – and that means very heavily indeed! But sometimes my own snoring wakes me up, and then I can find it hard to get back to sleep. Snoring, for those of you who don&`&t know, means breathing in a noisy way through your mouth or nose while you&`&re asleep. [snores] … like that… How about you, Vincent?V: Very good, yes. Well, that&`&s quite ridiculous! Anyway, for me, it&`&s drinking too much coffee during the day. It&`&s the caffeine in coffee – a chemical that makes you feel more awake – which can stop you from sleeping at night. But there are so many things that can keep us awake these days.J: Oh yes. Radio, TV… techy stuff like 24-hour internet, computers, smart phones. I love my phone and it&`&s never far from me!V: Well, a professor from the University of California, found when he studied the sleep habits of three different hunter-gatherer communities who have very little contact with modern society. They don&`&t have artificial light, electricity, batteries, or any of the gadgets that we rely on today.J:He said,Their sleep was not that different from ours. The range of sleep period was about 6.9 to 8.5 hours. If you actually measure sleep in current populations in the United States or in Europe they&`&re definitely at the low end of what&`&s been reported. They certainly don&`&t sleep a lot less than we do but they clearly don&`&t sleep more.V: He found that people in these communities don&`&t go to bed until several hours after sundown – just like us! But one big difference is that very few of them suffer from insomnia – which means having difficulty falling asleep and staying asleep.J: Now, I don&`&t have a problem with insomnia. And hunter-gatherers – people who live by hunting animals and gathering plants to eat – don&`&t either – probably because they take a lot of physical exercise during the day. V: Yes, that&`&s right. Taking exercise is an important factor in sleeping soundly – or well – at night. But these days our minds can be so active that it becomes very difficult to fall asleep. J:Professor Kevin said,If you have a train of thoughts which would otherwise keep you awake one way of dealing with this is to block those thoughts. What I&`&d like you to do is repeat the word &`&the&`& in your mind at irregular intervals – what you&`&ll find that the mind space required to do this blocks out almost everything else.V: So Professor Kevin suggests saying one word over and over again at irregular intervals – irregular in this context means not spaced out evenly. J:Doing it can help to block out the thoughts that are stopping you from getting to sleep. It sounds like a very simple solution. I wonder if it works?V: There&`&s one way to find out, Jotta. Try it yourself!J: I will. 插曲2 i really like you V: OK. And cognitive behavioural therapy by the way is a treatment for mental health problems that tries to change the way you think.J: Well, I usually count sheep if I can&`&t get to sleep. Do you do that, Vincent?V: No, not usually. No. OK, Do you know what&`&s another word for sleepwalking? J:It&`&s somnambulism – the roots of this word come from Latin.Right?V:Wow.You are so clever.Somnus means &`&sleep&`& and and ambulare means &`&walk&`&. Narcolepsy is a condition where you can&`&t stop yourself falling asleep, especially during the day.J: Narcolepsy… (says in a sleepy way)V: And restless legs syndrome is a condition that makes you desperate to move your legs around, especially when you&`&re sitting quietly or trying to get to sleep. 插曲 3 little talks J: … get to sleep… (murmuring)V: Jotta! Wake up!J: Oh, hello Vincent! Sorry.V:My god! You really need to adjust your state now!J:I know I konw. Okay. It&`&s time to say goodbye again. Steven is in two bands, and I've interviewed members from both of them. Conor from Dialects was my very first interview on this wee Glasgow music podcast. That was back in June 2015.The other is Jamie from Atlas:Empire, whom I'd interviewed 11 months ago, so if it appears that it's taken almost a year to follow that up then you'd be mostly correct. This wasn't by design, but life does tend to get in the way of some things.I've known Steven for a number of years now. In fact, he reached out to me when I used to run a small label called Cold War Legacy Records and asked if I fancied putting out Atlas:Empire's ‘Somnus' EP. I liked it a lot – I still do like the band a lot – and said yes. It was a good time, and I enjoyed being a small part of that band's legacy, despite the fact the way that some fractious local scene politics seemed destined to dismiss their music, and my label, before giving it much of a chance. But that's a story for another day.It wasn't until after we had arranged to have this conversation that Steven and I realised that we were actually neighbours. Which is kinda cool because music scenes are so vast, and Glasgow is such a densely packed place that it never occurs to me that I might live near someone that I know. Had I known this sooner, this interview wouldn't have taken this long to happen. As you will be able to tell from this interview, Steven has been involved in bands for the entirety of his adult life, starting in adolescence and perpetually moving forward until the present day. Having been in a few bands myself over the years, with some projects exploding spectacularly before ever reaching any kind of coherence, the drive to keep at it can often be difficult to sustain. The fact he's still going is a true testament to his drive, tenacity and character. Now he's in two bands that are doing cool and interesting things, and that's a pretty cool thing indeed.I hope you enjoy this interview. Our GDPR privacy policy was updated on August 8, 2022. We side with Bill Gates over Steve Jobs, ponder what the Sweaty Girl Look of the nineteen sixties might have involved and clarify for the record that Jack is NOT the alter-ego of rambunctious superhero Fashion Man. Then we're heading towards international waters, and there's some planning afoot. Well, it's coming from Chris, so I use the word planning in the loosest possible sense.
