A decision is expected later this year by the Spanish government on whether to award a three-year reprieve to Almaraz nuclear power plant's units 1 and 2. They are currently scheduled to be shut down in 2027 as part of the country's 2019 nuclear phase-out policy.In this episode we hear from Marta Ugalde, President of Spanish Nuclear Industry Forum, Foro Nuclear, about the current situation with nuclear energy in Spain, and what the future might hold for an industry which has a rich history stretching back more than 60 years in the country.Ugalde says that the three-year operating extension would allow time for  consideration of whether there should be a more fundamental change to the phase-out plan, noting that similar reactors in the US are now licensed to operate for 80 years. She also talks about what impact last year's blackout has had on the case for nuclear energy.Spain's seven operating nuclear power reactors - Almaraz I and II, Ascó I and II, Cofrentes, Trillo and Vandellós II - generate about 20% of its electricity. Under the country's nuclear phase-out plans, agreed in 2019, four reactors are scheduled to close by the end of 2030 - including the two Almaraz ones - while the remaining three reactors will shut by 2035.The Almaraz plant currently supplies more than 7% of the electricity consumed in Spain, equivalent to 4 million homes, and employs about 4,000 people. Almaraz units I and II are pressurised water reactors with a net capacity of 1011 MWe and 1006 MWe, respectively. Unit I entered commercial operation in 1983 with unit II following the next year. Hoy se cumple un año del histórico apagón que dejó a 60 millones de personas en España y Portugal sumidas en la oscuridad durante horas. Lo que sucedió aquel lunes de abril fue el mayor fallo eléctrico registrado en Europa en mucho tiempo. Se produjo en un país miembro fundador de la zona euro y referente autodeclarado de la transición energética. Ese país vio como su sistema eléctrico se caía por completo en cuestión de segundos. Doce meses, varios informes y dos comisiones parlamentarias después, el episodio sigue sin tener un culpable claro. Desde el punto de vista técnico el sistema perdió el equilibrio por una cadena de fallos en cadena. Hubo una serie de episodios de sobretensión, oscilaciones y dificultades para mantener la tensión, que culminaron en el cero eléctrico. La presidenta de Redeia, Beatriz Corredor, situó el origen en una oscilación detectada en una planta fotovoltaica de Badajoz, supuestamente la Núñez de Balboa, propiedad de Iberdrola, extremo que la eléctrica ha negado. Pero había mucho más. Un fallo en una sola central no puede provocar algo así. Ese día la elevada penetración renovable conectada mediante electrónica de potencia redujo la inercia mecánica que aportaban las centrales con turbinas como las nucleares, las hidráulicas y los ciclos combinados. Los informes oficiales del ministerio para la Transición Ecológica, el gestor europeo ENTSO-E y la CNMC han coincidido en calificar el evento como algo «multifactorial», un eufemismo que reparte culpas entre tantos actores que ninguno carga con ellas. Pero la CNMC ha constatado que España disponía de herramientas normativas suficientes para evitar el apagón. Las reglas existían, lo que falló fue su aplicación. El regulador ha incoado unos 55 expedientes sancionadores, el más grave contra la propia Red Eléctrica, y otros contra Iberdrola, Endesa, Naturgy, Repsol y las nucleares de Almaraz y Trillo. La batalla se sigue librando en varios frentes de forma simultánea. La Comisión del Senado señaló al Gobierno, a Red Eléctrica y a la CNMC. La del Congreso acaba de empezar y aún no se conocen sus conclusiones. Entretanto, en un juzgado de Madrid, las eléctricas litigan por acceder a las 8.000 conversaciones aportadas por Red Eléctrica que demostrarían que existían avisos previos. Iberdrola ha demandado al operador por competencia desleal en un juzgado mercantil. Portugal, que sufrió el apagón sin tener responsabilidad alguna, estudia también demandar a España. Las consecuencias económicas las tenemos ahí y las pagamos de forma sileciosa desde hace un año. Red Eléctrica opera con un margen de seguridad mayor, los servicios de ajuste se han encarecido y el precio en el mercado regulado es notablemente más alto que hace un año. La factura la está pagando el consumidor. En el frente político el balance es desolador. Ni una dimisión, ni un cese, ni una asunción explícita de culpa pese a las 8 víctimas mortales que provocó el apagón. Si alguna lección hemos de extraer de este episodio es que en España impera una cultura institucional que confunde la gestión pública con la gestión del relato, exactamente lo mismo que sucedió durante la pandemia o en las inundaciones de Valencia. Las fragilidades estructurales siguen ahí. Si los tribunales no ponen orden, el próximo apagón no será una sorpresa. En el Foro de la Inversión, Gustavo Trillo, consejero delegado de Panza Capital, explica cómo está afectando a las carteras las tensiones geopolíticas del momento y cuáles son los valores y sectores en los que podemos encontrar oportunidad de inversión además de las claves que diferencian a esta gestora española independiente y su forma de afrontar el actual entorno de mercado. Trillo destacó tres pilares fundamentales que definen a Panza Capital. En primer lugar, la calidad del equipo gestor, En segundo lugar, el compromiso con un proceso de inversión sólido y prudente, aplicado de forma consistente a lo largo del tiempo. Y, por último, la transparencia con los clientes como elemento central de la relación con los inversores. Panza Capital se define como un inversor de largo plazo que busca rentabilidades atractivas combinando tres factores clave: calidad empresarial, crecimiento y precio. Aunque el enfoque comparte rasgos con la filosofía value, desde Panza Capital subrayan que no se trata únicamente de comprar barato, sino de encontrar compañías con buenos modelos de negocio, equipos gestores sólidos y valoraciones razonables. En un contexto marcado por la geopolítica, la inflación energética y la incertidumbre económica, Panza Capital mantiene una visión prudente. Desde la gestora consideran que el encarecimiento del petróleo puede generar presiones inflacionistas y afectar al crecimiento económico, mientras que el elevado nivel de deuda global —especialmente pública— representa uno de los principales riesgos estructurales para los mercados. En la construcción de carteras, la gestora mantiene su enfoque de análisis fundamental y selección de compañías europeas con modelos de negocio sólidos y valoraciones atractivas.

El exministro de Defensa Federico Trillo explicó este jueves en el Buenos Días Madrid de Onda Madrid que el eslogan del “no a la guerra” acuñado por Pedro Sánchez en relación al conflicto de Irán es una “cortina de humo” para “desviar la atención de los casos de corrupción que invaden la Moncloa”. Pese a ello, recordó que España está suscrito a unos tratados con la Organización para el Tratado del Atlántico Norte (OTAN) y con la Unión Europea (UE) que “impiden negar el auxilio a Estados Unidos”. “Estamos vinculados a ellos desde hace casi 70 años”, añadió. Zapatero respalda el "acierto permanente" de Sánchez en política internacional tras su choque con EEUU Trillo, que ocupó la cartera de Defensa en pleno estallido de la guerra de Irak en 2003, diferenció aquel conflicto de este y señaló que “entonces se llevó a cabo una acción unilateral por la coalición encabezada por Estados Unidos y Gran Bretaña que fue apoyada –que no integrada- por España y otros países”. “Lo de ahora”, matizó, “es un ataque de dos aliados, EEUU e Israel, en un conflicto abierto hace años”. Trillo hizo hincapié en que esto “no ha sido un ataque que viole la Carta de Naciones Unidas como dice Pedro Sánchez sino que es un conflicto abierto por Irán cuando desplegó todas sus bombas contra el país hebreo”. Del mismo modo, Trillo lamentó el doble rasero del Gobierno que, sin embargo, “mandó un buque de guerra y un avión del Ejército del Aire a recoger a esa tropilla de facinerosos que fueron a Gaza en la excursión que organizó Ada Colau”. En ese sentido, aseguró que “la especialidad de Pedro Sánchez es el agitprop” y que, pese a “sus mentiras”, Estados Unidos “seguirá utilizando las bases de Rota y Morón”. “Son instalaciones de apoyo permanente y hay más de 3.000 militares en cada base”, agregó. Ayuso dice que si fuera por el PSOE el régimen iraní "seguiría armándose" Preguntado por la reacción de Europa, el exministro del Gobierno de José María Aznar apremió a los socios comunitarios a “retomar las relaciones con Estados Unidos en el seno de la OTAN”, que se habían deteriorado mucho por la guerra de Ucrania”. Además, pronosticó que Rusia no intervendrá en Irán “porque sabe que su petróleo no peligra y porque no le interesa un apoyo abierto a un régimen como el iraní que, además, dispersa la atención de lo que está haciendo en Ucrania”. Europa, remarcó, “reaccionará de manera unida por convicciones democráticas y de legalidad internacional frente a la autocracia iraní”. Y lo hará, dijo, “vertebrada con Estados Unidos”. La decisión del Gobierno de España, criticó Trillo, “se ha hecho de espaldas al Parlamento, que es quien tiene la competencia para autorizarlo”. “Hay ocasiones en que hay que tomar partido y España tiene que hacerlo en consonancia con sus pactos”, añadió.

Hoy invitamos al club de las 'Miss Experiencia' a Nardy Barrios (76 años), que tiene un currículum envidiable: Jurista, profesora de Derecho Constitucional, llegó a ser concejala y teniente de alcalde en Las Palmas y diputada en el Congreso. Y aunque dejó la política después de 20 años en primera fila, no ha dejado de batallar por sus ideas. Ahora preside la asociación Charter 100 Canarias, un lobby de dirigentes, empresarias y emprendedoras que da voz a las mujeres. The Cinematography Podcast Episode 327: Bryn Mooser and Paul Trillo Bryn Mooser and Paul Trillo of Asteria on AI in filmmaking Asteria, an AI-driven film and animation studio, recently merged with Moonvalley, an AI research firm, to create generative video technology for filmmakers. Their AI model, Marey, is a visual intelligence model trained only on data that is fully licensed by the company. Unlike other AI companies that use large language models (LLMs) that process text, Marey is designed to understand and generate physical movement. Asteria hired a group of filmmakers who contributed to Marey's research for six months, followed by a three-month alpha testing period with outside partners. Users can now access Marey online at Moonvalley with a subscription. Co-founder Bryn Mooser and Paul Trillo, a director and partner at Asteria, saw a clear need to involve filmmakers and artists in the inevitable future of AI, which is already integral to the film and television process. As Paul puts it, “AI is a bunch of forking paths with different people approaching it in different ways.” Asteria's AI is just a tool for filmmakers to use. “We don't need it to know how to make a movie,” Bryn says. “We make the movie, and we already know how to make the movie.” Both Paul and Bryn want to be thoughtful about how AI is used, and to constantly ask why they are using the tools, and if there's a new way to use them. They don't believe those in the film industry will be replaced or no longer have jobs. “Right now, using AI is optional as a filmmaker,” says Bryn. “But learning about it is not optional right now. We have to learn about it. We know that this is an inevitability that a lot of it is gonna be in the way that we make stuff.” Bryn sees it as another evolution and democratization of the filmmaking process. “My first documentary I was nominated for was shot on the Canon 5D with a GoPro,” he says. “That was a moment where the democratization of indie film and documentaries allowed me to be a filmmaker when I couldn't have before. Now we sit at a time where the same opportunity for this democratization is happening, but it's studio level films.” Asteria will launch its first live-action feature with Natasha Lyonne's film, Uncanny Valley, which will combine AI-generated footage with traditional filmmaking techniques.
