*DISCLAIMER: We experienced problems with the audio on this Podcast. We apologize for how it sounds yet we wanted to deliver this beautiful story for an amazing film. We hope you enjoyed the discussion. Ever wondered how a $20 bill could symbolize a life changing moment or how the warmth of Italian family life contrasts with its perceived patriarchal structure? We're diving into all this and more with an incredible panel discussing "Nonnas," a film now on Netflix that beautifully captures Italian American culture. Broadcasting from the vibrant Red Sauce Studio in Little Italy, John and Pat invite you to join a lively discussion featuring Brenda Vaccaro, Stephen Chbosky, Liz Maccie and Jody Scaravella. Together, we'll uncover the heartwarming inspiration behind this cinematic gem. We'll also explore compelling tales of family and heritage, where kitchens are more than just a place for cooking – they're the very heart of the home. Hear from a guest actress whose Sicilian roots led her to Broadway, and the significance of strong matriarchal influences in shaping her career. From Brenda's masterful domestic skills cultivated in Calabria to the exuberant spirit of Italian American identity in Hollywood, we celebrate the strength and magic that women bring to these traditions, offering a universal resonance that transcends cultural boundaries. As we savor stories of shared meals, family names, and the pride of belonging, we'll reflect on the connections found in Italian American communities across the globe. Whether it's the camaraderie at the Italian Club of Dallas or the global culinary traditions brought to life in Enoteca Maria, the episode concludes with the tantalizing anticipation of a potential sequel to "Nonnas." Join us as we embrace and celebrate the joys of Italian heritage, leaving listeners with a catchy reminder that being born Italian can lead to a truly great life. S&P Futures are trading lower this morning. Economic and Earnings data will continue to be the market drivers today. Shortly after the opening today a report on October Consumer Confidence is set to be released. After the bell today watch for earnings results from MSFT, GOOG, V, TXN, SPOT, and more. So far this season, companies have proven they may be faring better than anticipated. That's due in part to the fact that analysts' earnings estimates have come down in recent months as companies faced foreign exchange headwinds and other growth concerns. This could set up stocks for rallies on potentially better-than-feared outcomes.

We are on the verge of massive change where innovations in mobile, digital money and machine learning are changing how we move money and manage our finances. An expert on these technologies is Alex Rampell, who plays a significant role in building the future of financial services. A General Partner at Andreessen Horowitz, Alex also serves on the board of Branch, Brightside, Descript, Divvy, Earnin, FlyHomes, Loft, Mercury, PeerStreet, Point, Propel, Sentilink, Super Evil Mega Corp, Transferwise, and Very Good Security. Alex additionally led the firm's investments in OpenDoor ($OPEN), Plaid, Quantopian (acquired by Robinhood), and Rival (acquired by LiveNation). Prior to joining the firm, Alex co-founded multiple companies, including Affirm ($AFRM), which he co-founded with Max Levchin, FraudEliminator (acquired by McAfee in 2006), Point, TrialPay (acquired by Visa in 2015), TXN (acquired by Envestnest in 2019), and Yub (acquired by Coupons.com in 2013). Join Willy Walker and Alex Rampell on this week's Walker Webcast as they explore the ins and outs of fintech, the right mindset in approaching investments, censorship-resistant technology, lessons from a dental software story, the future of financial services, and so much more. Willy invites Alex to share his Andover boarding school experience, getting to Harvard and starting his little software business when students are prohibited from doing it from their dorm room. "It was a part-time thing, but I used to sell software on the internet in the 90s when this was not really a mainstream thing, which ironically made it much easier to do because you were not competing with millions of software developers around the world." From being an undergrad to jumping right into entrepreneurship, Alex attributes luck, common sense, and not being afraid to fail as his ingredients of starting a company in college and making his way to success. Alex emphasizes the importance of empathy and a grounded understanding, especially in venture capitalism. He brings this mindset and experience to Andreessen Horowitz as an outstanding investor. He also uses an example of looking at the video of Tiger Woods as a kid hitting his 25-yard drive. "One can think, hey, I'm 40, I can hit a drive much further than that little kid, I'm much better than him." or "Wow if that kid keeps it up, he could win 15 majors in the future." In a venture mindset, you have to default to that latter category and realize that you're not looking at Baby Tiger Woods; you're looking at something that will not work. But you can't judge it on the present because it is an extraordinarily easy way to never really win." Tune in to this new episode of the Walker Webcast — FinTech and Venture Capital Alex Rampell, General Partner at Andreessen Horowitz.

"So many of my friends had pop star dreams and we're all at this age where we're building a life that can include our creative talents and passions in a sustainable way. It was sad for me for a bit, but now I'm ecstatic." — Matthew ProgressIn this chat, Toronto-born multidisciplinary artist Matthew Progress talks about his short film TXN: A Decade In Review, commissioned by the Nia Centre, which culls the recent archive of images and sound to create a capsule narrative about Black Toronto. It had its public release (Zoom-style) the week that George Floyd's murder the death of Regis Korchinski-Paquet enflamed the news cycle. It got me thinking about the way that the grace of time is often denied to immigrant and racialized communities, who are denied public histories and ensnared in cycles of outrage. Matthew and I talked about the making of TXN, our meditation and grounding techniques and, because he's also a musician, the slow unfolding of multiple creative voices.Watch TXN: A Decade In Review: https://vimeo.com/421074565Stream his music https://smarturl.it/t3pv65We need to take care of each other. How do you turn a bug into a feature? On this episode, we talk about how we used Bugsnag to do just that. We then get into an interesting discussion around using 3rd party software applications to move software projects more quickly with less risk. We also highlight just how useful the bitcoin-dev mailing list is for learning about how the Bitcoin core team thinks about the protocol, and how their discussions underpin important considerations around scaling and network growth. We also look at a terrible case of UX in VeChain, how Google is adding Ethereum to BigQuery, how $800mm worth of Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash moved out of a Silk Road wallet, and a very suspicious Bitmex short squeeze.
