In this week's episode of Market Mondays, we dive into the global economic storm brewing as Trump's proposed tariffs spark fears of a full-blown trade war. We unpack how these moves are shaking markets—from auto stocks taking a hit in Europe to Goldman Sachs raising the likelihood of a U.S. recession. Gold is hitting all-time highs, and we break down what that says about investor sentiment. Plus, we discuss which car brands, if any, might be worth a look right now, and whether major companies could start adding Bitcoin to their balance sheets as an economic hedge. We also take a deep look into the AI boom: who's set to benefit next in the ecosystem, and which companies are quietly leveraging NVIDIA's AI stack for future dominance. We review Dennis Fish's 2024 stock picks and play a high-stakes game of portfolio building from a curated list of major players like Netflix, HubSpot, Palo Alto, and Alibaba. To close out, we offer financial advice specifically for married couples looking to build together in uncertain economic times. Likefolio's Andy Swan presents their “mixed” consumer sentiment data on Booking Holdings (BKNG). He notes that almost all travel stocks are down when comparing the change in visits. However, he says this could be due to technological investment in efficiency. He thinks BKNG can triumph over Airbnb (ABNB) as it incorporates more “alternative” hospitality options.======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day.Subscribe to the Market Minute newsletter - https://schwabnetwork.com/subscribeDownload the iOS app - https://apps.apple.com/us/app/schwab-network/id1460719185Download the Amazon Fire Tv App - https://www.amazon.com/TD-Ameritrade-Network/dp/B07KRD76C7Watch on Sling - https://watch.sling.com/1/asset/191928615bd8d47686f94682aefaa007/watchWatch on Vizio - https://www.vizio.com/en/watchfreeplus-exploreWatch on DistroTV - https://www.distro.tv/live/schwab-network/Follow us on X – https://twitter.com/schwabnetworkFollow us on Facebook – https://www.facebook.com/schwabnetworkFollow us on LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/company/schwab-network/About Schwab Network - https://schwabnetwork.com/about

Mega-Brands: Investing in Mega Trends & the Mega Brands Best Positioned to Add Value to Your Wallet
Travel has always been a very important spending category for consumers globally. Post pandemic, we still see strong travel demand and better profitability for key online travel platform Expedia, EXPE. Through Expedia brands like VRBO, Expedia, Travelocity, Orbitz, Hotwire, CarRentals.com, and Homeaway, Expedia is getting its mojo back. There's a huge gap between the market cap of EXPE and its two key peers, Booking and AirBnb. As Expedia gets back on track and the industry continues to flourish, we expect a major catch-up opportunity in shares of EXPE. Using a conservative comp with ABNB, the VRBO division on a stand-alone basis would likely be worth at least 50% of EXPE total value making the rest of the business exceptionally cheap. EXPE trades at 9x, BKNG at 16x and ABNB at 27x earnings. We think EXPE can expand the multiple well and the company seems to agree with its new $5B buyback authorization. "The stock market today is resilient, but I am still concerned that inflation is high. It is too early to declare victory despite Jerome Powell saying deflation has begun. The Federal Reserve will not shy away from future interest rate hikes. In terms of Nvidia (NVDA), I like the stock as long as it can hold above $190. I think scaling in over the next three months would be the smart move. For Booking (BKNG), people are still booking travel and that does not appear to be slowing down," says Eddy Gifford.

Oppenheimer has an outperform rating on the Booking Holdings (BKNG) stock. However, they have a perform rating on Airbnb (ABNB). "Airbnb management indicated that the supply is growing slightly faster than demand. The seamless onboarding process should aid supply and market share during a recessionary period," says Jed Kelly. Kelly also states that Expedia (EXPE) management plans to continue its marketing investments into the recovery.
"Latest data shows that May travel demand was stable and June was even better. There is macro uncertainty past the summer. BKNG has momentum in Europe with a more aggressive spend. ABNB stock still has the highest growth," says Kevin Kopelman. "Travel demand has remained resilient. Economic slowdown could be mitigated by pent-up demand, shift to services from goods, and working remotely. Stocks pricing is in a slowdown already," Dan Wasiolek adds.

Berkshire also purchased 29.9 million shares of Bristol Myers Squibb (BMY), 22.4 million shares of Merck (MRK), and 3.7 million Pfizer (PFE) shares during the quarter, the filing shows.📃Airbnb Filing its S-1🌍Airbnb seeks to raise $1 billion on the Nasdaq under the ticker “ABNB”. And BKNG generates more EBITDA/room night than ABNB does Contribution $/room night. 🌊 Hottest Links We Read Last Week 🌊Apple's disruption of Intel:Apple Silicon and the eclipse of Intel. As expected, Apple launched the first Macs using its own custom-designed SoCs (system-on-a-chip), replacing Intel with version of the chips it already creates for iPhones and iPads. These are outwardly identical versions of existing Macs (two laptops and the budget Mac Mini), not new designs (no touch etc), BUT - Apple's silicon is getting at least double the performance of Intel chips, with dramatically better battery life. This is partly the shift to ARM architecture, partly Apple execution, and partly TSMC's shift to a 5nm process. Intel has massively dropped the ball here - Apple designs these chips and TSMC manufactures them with a process Intel can't match. Over the next 18 months Apple will roll this out to the rest of the Mac line-up - expect the higher-end models to have even more dramatic performance leads. Three things to think about:Apple will take a big bite out of the top half of the PC market, but this doesn't much matter for anyone else - PCs/Macs have not been the playing field for company creation for a long time.Stellar execution from Apple - out-designing Intel (and Qualcomm) in semiconductors and shifting its operating system to a new platform seamlessly with all current software running unchangedThis is classic disruption: ARM and mobile are overtaking Intel's core PC business from underneathTechnology:In 1850, a decade before the Civil War, the United States’ economy was small—it wasn’t much bigger than Italy’s. Forty years later, it was the largest economy in the world. What happened in-between was the railroads. They linked the east of the country to the west, and the interior to both. They gave access to the east’s industrial goods; they made possible economies of scale; they stimulated steel and manufacturing—and the economy was never the same.Survival:Forecasting:Government researchers have confirmed that the steep decline in air traffic during the coronavirus pandemic has affected the quality of weather forecasting models by sharply reducing the amount of atmospheric data routinely collected by commercial airliners.Tax base:The top 1% of New Yorkers reported a combined $133.3 billion in income in 2018, according to new data released last month by the city’s Independent Budget Office. They paid $4.9 billion in local income taxes, making up 42.5% of total income tax collected by the city. Those numbers show how the decisions of a tiny number of millionaires and billionaires could have huge fiscal consequences for a city of more than 8 million people. In 2018, 1,786 tax filers earned more than $10 million or more. Get on the email list at www.reformedmillennials.com

This week, on the Wise Investor Show, Simon discusses how powerful compounding can be in the stock market, but that it is backend loaded. In this episodem I take a walk on the wild side and for the first time talk in detail about a company that is not on the NZX. This is not because there was not enough news on the NZX but more because I felt like doing something different. Another reason is because I think they are a phenomenal company that not only has a wonderful track record but also an extremely bright future. That company is none other than Booking Holdings, they trade on the NASDAQ under the ticker code BKNG and they are everything that I look for in a company. The fundamentals and product are easy to understand, they are loved by their customers, they have excellent economics and fantastic prospects. I believe that the shares are undervalued and the market capitalisation should be around $100 billion. A reminder today that nothing that I say on this episode should be considered financial advice, there is also nothing to say that my opinions about the company are right. So you should always do your own research. Listen in by searching Stock Market Movers on Apple or wherever you get your podcasts.
